My first pistol was an M&P, after trying half a dozen different 9mm handguns, I stopped at the S&W and have never regretted it. 10 years later it still goes bang every time I pull the trigger.

I worked for a company that issued 1st gen M&Ps and I got a bad first impression from that. Issued guns are only as good as your armorer and those guns were not well maintained, plus one had an actually defective sight that they just never replaced.
Recently I shot a buddy's M&P that has actually been cared for and its an amazing gun. I've actually been considering buying one when I get some new gun money saved up.

Glad to see the PDP made your number one. I’m an older guy with arthritis issues which is why I bought a Smith & Wesson 9EZ originally. I also have the 442. I still like both these guns a lot and don’t plan to part with them but I wanted a bit more capacity. After seeing your initial review of the PDP I decided to go check it out and ended up buying it. I've been saying for years that Canik pistols are everything a Glock should be, for a comically low price. They are phenomenal guns and people seem to sleep on them for no reason at all. I've been carrying a TP9Sc Elite (the sub compact shown in the video) for years now and I've been satisfied the entire time. I also frequently run the SFx in 2 gun competitions and it performs flawlessly. The only downside I could see leveled at Caniks is due to the fact that they're relatively new to the polymer pistol market, 3rd party accessory support is a little lacking. But I would attribute this to people (and companies) deepthroating Glock's balls for so long they're too scared to try something new and branch out into other platforms. Canik has also been improving their designs and market appeal with lines like the new METE series, and companies like Taylor Freelance provide a good selection of parts to tailor your gun to your needs. 10/10 guns, 10/10 company.

That being said, Caniks' triggers are almost as good the walther's aftermarket performance triggers (on the PDP Pro SD models) and if you buy the pro SD it's price is very comparable to the canik rival's price.

I got to try G19 gen 4 and gen 5 last summer before deciding on a compact pistol. Fondled P-10C, PDP and M+P at the store, but didn't shoot them. Disliked Glock ergos after shooting XDM for a year, grip angle was wrong and grip shape felt awkward in my hand. Gen 5 G19 trigger was pretty good, despite the weird ergos. Bought P-10C and it's replaced the XDM as my competition pistol. Running Holosun 509T and Streamlight TLR 7A in Carry Optics. Fantastic pistol with a trigger reset that is unbelievably fast. Accurate and very smooth & relatively flat recoil, especially with TLR 7A adding some ballast up front.
I shot a borrowed G19 gen 5 with a slightly tuned trigger and Truglo iron sights at a Glock match earlier this summer. The weird grip angle was good for irons use for me, I don't shoot irons more than 5% of the time. I almost bought one after shooting that match. But I'd rather shoot the CZ.

As someone who switched from a Glock 19 to a Sig P365XL for daily concealed carry, I greatly appreciate the size difference. yes I give up 3 rounds in the magazine to do so but I now have Mag Guts +2 spring and follower system that gets me to 14 rounds in a flush fitting magazine! My biggest gripes with the P365XL are that the grip is just a little too small for my preference (the G19 grip was a little too big lol) and you lose the rear iron sight when using a red dot. You can buy grip module replacements that are bigger (I use the Wilson Combat one) and the newest XL slides keep the rear irons, so these negatives aren't too bad. For daily CC it's hard to beat!

I had a Canik TP9 SF for almost 2 years. It's a great pistol, and every bit as reliable as a Glock. The trigger is right up there with the Walther PPQ/PDP. The problem is that I couldn't find the 18 or 20 round magazines anywhere for over a year and a half. They were out of stock everywhere, online and in stores. That's a deal-breaker for me. It was that problem which caused me to buy a Shadow Systems MR920, which is Glock magazine/holster compatible. Now I don't have to worry about finding magazines (which are cheaper), and other accessories. The Glock ecosystem is what led me to buy a premium Glock clone, which already had all the upgrades I would've done to a G19, and for less than it would've costed me to do it.

I have the PDP and the Canik TP9Elite combat. I love both. I have to say my favorite is the TP9. It shoots so flat and minimal recoil for such a short gun. It’s also much heavier than the PDP so it isn’t the best for EDC. Walther is my EDC when I’m not carrying the G43x.

Thanks for the list of Glock Alternatives.
If I were forced to replace my HK 45 and HK 9mm handguns with something from the five on your list, the S&W and the Canik would be the ones I would consider. However, if I could add Glock to the list, I would also consider Glock.
On the other hand, since I prefer hammer-fired, I would probably pick a Berretta instead.

When I first started shooting, I started with revolvers. With my revolvers, I got used to manually cocking and de-cocking my handguns.
My first semi-automatic was a striker-fire. I missed the manually cocking and de-cocking. I also missed being able to look at the hammer position to tell if the gun was cocked. Also, since I still shoot revolvers and since I like my handguns to have similar ergonomics, the semi-automatics I purchased after my first one were all hammer-fired.

The only “Glock style” handgun I like is the Walther P99, due to how unique the Anti-Stress trigger mechanism is.

I always wanted a P99 but Walther doesn’t make them anymore. Out of all the guns I regret not buying, I regret that one the most. I can’t find a used one anywhere. The people that have ‘em aren’t giving them up. I doubt I’ll find one in good condition by now either. I couldn’t find a P99 so I bought a PPQ because everyone said it was so great. I absolutely hated that thing! I’m not very impressed with the PDP series either.

@@leroyjenkins4811 The P99, PPQ, and PDP all use the same general design, and not in some small way. Same with the Canik TP9 series, some of which are nearly a 1 to 1 copy of a P99. I don't know what differences you observed beyond small grip changes for the most part, but after you find yourself a P99, test them against one another. I'd tell you to do a blind test if we were not talking about guns, so instead I will just say to hold onto your objectivity.

@@leroyjenkins4811 The unfortunate thing with the PPQ and PDP is they deleted the Anti-Stress trigger that made the P99 so unique. That being said, Walther does still make a limited run of P99s every year, so wait for a batch to drop and get that. Or just buy used off Gunbroker like I did, as they're still common enough to not be absurdly overpriced.

That's the thing that always kept me from getting a Glock (besides not liking the feel in my hand). When I was able to buy a PPQ M2 Tact for roughly the same price as a comparable Glock why would I buy a one?
I know plenty of people that love their Glock but then most have spent nearly the same amount to upgrade it as they did for the gun itself.

I owned a Walther PPQ but sold it after I got my CZ P10c. The Walther is definitely snappier, more muzzle flip than the CZ. The CZ has almost as good a trigger (not quite) but the CZ trigger is light years better than a Glock! Have shot well over 1,000 rounds on my CZ with not one failure.
Comparing the Walther PDP 4" and the CZ P10c (which is 4"), the CZ has less muzzle flip. If you were to compare the Walther 4.5", it would be about the same muzzle flip as the CZ, but who wants a 4.5" for a carry gun?
Would still love to see the Outlaws comparison of his CZ Accushadow vs the CZ Shartdow 2 Orange (from the CZ factory custom shop).. Still waiting!

Honestly think so many people are nuts about em cus so many people have been nuts about em for so long. The reliability is hyped up, the aftermarket parts thing, the glock fan club type culture. Walked into a gunstore one time asking about different brands and was interested in looking at 10mm. Each employee bombarded me with "everybody in here carries glock in 9mm, that's what you should get." They're no longer in business, dunno if there's any correlation or not. Haha

They’re really only the best in terms of aftermarket options. They’re like the AR-15 platform of the pistol world with all the modifications you can do to them. That being said, my 26 was plagued with ejection issues for a couple months until I figured out that they had developed an updated ejector and that solved it. My M&P’s have been much more reliable for me, just with slightly less mod options.
