Best quote I have heard this year:”it is your responsibility to take care of your own safety”. People call me a gun nut, but I honestly believe in the comments you stated in the intro.
I think a significant degree of Americans have arrived at this insight, after the George F. riots swept the Nation. Firearm sales have continued to break records, continuously.
When I first got into firearm ownership a couple years ago I started almost exclusively following this channel and I’m reminded every week why this is the most quality and informative content on UA-cam for this community
I came here with a lifetime of experience so I'll go ahead and tell you that you made the right move. This fine man is spreading the correct knowledge and mindset
@@MadFox-jr6by ~Exactly correct!! My friend got a new bolt-action Mossberg MVP in 5.56 in the bush for a survival type weapon. That is a very dumb move because a person wants a caliber that is good for hunting medium Deer sized game. Either a rifle in bolt-action ‘or’ lever-action 7.62x39, 44 Rem Mag, 30-30, 6.5 Creedmore, 243, 260, 7mm-08, or 308 is a minimum for hunting medium Deer sized game and larger. Especially when we also have Moose, Elk, and Black Bear here.
The Ruger Scout rifle chambered in .308 Win is an excellent option imo. They make a .350 Legend version also but you might run into ammo availability issues with that one.
Every once in a while you stumble around on UA-cam and find someone who knows about what they are talking about. This fellow speaks the truth. So, I Subscribed, Liked, and clicked the bell.
As a Cop I tell people all the time that we will always come to help you as fast as we can. However, a lot of the time we do not even know people need help until after the threat has ended and people are hurt. That’s why I agree you must be responsible to keep you and your family safe. Great video
Dude I’m a cop and say the same. I live in a pretty antigun state and a lot of people are scared to get into guns because of it. So when I go to calls where people are concerned about stalkers or something like that…. I ALWAYS ask them if they’ve considered a firearm. They just don’t know how to get into it and where to start.
The economic aspect of the 12 GA pump is not to be understated. One great thing about a shotgun is the wide variety of ammo you can put in it which makes it kind of a one size fits all gun for somebody on a budget.
And if you’re really hurting on cash. You can open up the crimp on bird shot, fill it with hot wax and close it and boom. Home made slugs with 1 oz of lead, ready to go for 0.30 cents a shot!
Yep. You can hunt with a defense shottie if you have to. You can defend yourself with a hunting shottie if you have to. And there's an ammunition type for every target and situation.
I love your message at the end about being a positive change. The last damn thing we need is the gun community leading the charge in to crazy town (like many have been for the last several years). SHTF preparation should be something we aspire to do, but never use. Not something we do, then aspire to find an excuse to use. We need to be the reasonable people in the room, not the assholes agitating conflict over every single culture war nonsense issue, then screaming about our guns whenever someone disagrees with us on something or something doesn't go our way.
SHTF preparation comes in real handy when a tree falls on your house, or you lose your job, or you have a major medical issue, or a hurricane floods your property and your house is condemned. Assuming of course that one's SHTF preps didn't start and end with an unhelpful number of AR15s and ammo and armor.
The Canik MC9 doesn’t appear to be the same quality as its predecessors. There have been issues with it and some say to wait for the Gen 2 version of the Canik MC 9 The prior Canik pistols are very highly regarded amongst serious shooters.
I’m a fairly new gun owner (about six weeks) by watching this channel I have become familiar with the four guns I’ve purchased. My girlfriend and I now shoot every Sunday and I show her how to assemble, and clean them. Thanks for all the advice you’ve given.
That's really good, man. You don't need to necessarily disassemble/assemble super often with your firearms if you're doing a breakdown/cleaning properly, but it's great to build familiarity. Idk what kind of firearms you have, and no one needs to know, but I hope you're not stressing the budget if you have higher priced calibers. If you want to work on marksmanship, I would suggest higher volume at the range with a .22. With a high quality rifle, you can fire any .22 ammo without problems. I personally have an hk416 and it has Always shot sweet. First 500 rounds were total budget bullets and not a single one misfires, whereas with my ruger .22 LR pistol, I would misfire on 4 of 10 rounds with the same ammunition
@@TheMistaneff i know they dont build things like they used to and my ruger is older than i am(which sadly means it wont accept anything over the 10 shot mags... without becoming a jamfactory...) but even with the ejector having busted and kicking about half of it some time back it still fires reliably and cycles just fine after i put it back to the correct facing(had gotten backwards at some point and was sticking out the back of the receiver?) didnt know much about the rifle growing up and aside the most basic of cleaning it had never had a full tear down and deep clean till some years ago at which point i decided to look up a diagram of it to see what this weird lever looking bit was only to find out it was what was left of the ejector haha. cant say on their pistols as mine is an ancient rifle but it has never given me trouble with misfires even with rounds that a buddies curious bullpup .22 wouldnt fire.
@@clintkees6158 If your ruger has a busted ejector (and from the 10 rd mag comment, I'm guessing it's a 10/22), CALL RUGER. They have one of the very best customer service programs in the industry, and they'll fix your Ruger no matter HOW old it is. Failing all else, (if it's a 10/22) buy a new Ruger BX trigger group and drop it in - two pins - it comes with the extractor installed. But I'd call Ruger first. Heck, I'm an FFL, and when my wife's Mark II broke the hammer strut assembly I called Ruger to order a new one. They told me to send it in because it needed to be fitted by a gunsmith, and they tightened up the whole gun while they had it! (gun probably had 20,000+ rounds through it by then; she'd gotten it used). shoots great now.
absolutely spot-on assessment with "police will only get there to write the report" and " the onus of your safety in yours, not law enforcement's" salute Honest Outlaw!
You shoot someone dead breaking into your home here in Britain, and the only thing the police will do is arrest you for murder, don't believe me, ask Tony Martin, as it happened to him.
I’m new to shotguns but in doing some research the choice for me was simple. So, I picked up the Mossberg Maverick 88 this week. They confirmed that it’s their #1 seller for simple, affordable and effective home protection.
I just spent 4x the cost of my AR-15 in ammo after I heard lake city will be sending their ammo designed for civilian contacts to Europe and other places. 😮
I remember the covid gun buying craze. Never in recorded history was there so many new gun owners. I remember guys saying how they planned on buying like new guns after the hysteria was over, yet not many got rid of their newly acquired firearms.
We live in a constitutional carry state, but the handgun training course at my local range was invaluable. It gives you information on laws in your state as well as great safety training.
About a year or so ago this channel woke me up. I've always been pro gun but I never daily carried. After some inspiration from THE honest outlaw when I found this channel by accident. Now I carry, so does my wife, so does my brother, and my dad, and even my mom and grandma. My family is safer thanks to u Chris. Preciate ya. ❤
I live in an area where you should make the assumption the other person is armed. An armed society is a polite society. I called out a tree trimming guy, he comes out and has a gun on his hip. A/C guy, same. It is safer that way, most people are good people and in the event a bad person does something the more people with firearms that know how to use them safely the less likely the bad man is going to get away with victimizing anyone.
You mentioned something you just can't overemphasize. Casual shooters need to know that training doesn't just mean taking a course. It means practicing frequently. I had extensive training and over 50 years of shooting experience. When I was forced into retirement by a heart attack last year, I just could not shoot for well over a year. The first time I got back out to the range, I couldn't even hit the target. I didn't even realize for a while that I had slipped into using a grip, stance and shooting techniques I haven't used since the 1970s. My breathing was wrong, and I couldn't stay on the target. All my old instructors and buddies were right - shooting is truly a perishable skill. Another important point is having a few .22s to teach your kids. I was glad you included that. All of my kids learned on .22s.
Firearms have been part of my professions since I was 17years old. I'm in my 50's now, and I still live train three of four times a week...and 75% of what I shoot is .22LR. It gets the reps in and frankly, fundamentals are fundamentals whether you shoot .50AE or .22LR.
Yup I learned on a bolt .22lr rifle and a Colt single action .22lr revolver. The revolver was my Grandpa’s and my dad bought the rifle for me to learn on. Dad used to soot the mongoose in the back yard with a .22lr growing up because Grandpa had chickens
If you think a $1200 phone is a necessity, but you can’t allow yourself to spend $300 on a decent used firearm for self-defense, you should rethink your priorities.
$1200 phone? Here in Realityville, people are struggling to buy basic necessities. Yes, there are some who squander money, but when many would be left in the dark if they bought a $300 gun. Maybe you should look around you at what millions of Americans are dealing with under "Bidenomics" before posting such crap.
This list is exactly the "6 Guns everyone needs" that I have told people time and time again. The only difference is that I don't put an "or" between a .22 pistol and .22 rifle, I feel that it's important to have both.
TX22 competition model with a red dot is a very nice .22 that actually holds some rounds. It may be a Taurus but just look at the reviews. It's a slick accurate pistol. Now if you own a p365 or 320 go with a p322 it will help you with your training and accuracy because it's just a tad small version and controls are the same. Great practice pistol for sigs
For me, home defense is handled by a locked up, but quickly accessible fully loaded Standard Arms DP-12 Shotgun with a Holosun "Shake and Wake" green optic sight as well as a pressure switch operated stream light. With 16 shells fully loaded and 2 shots per pump, it's quite formidable. And that is backed up by an also fully loaded, locked up Glock 34 in 9mm with the same accessories. Great video with some excellent advice!
While hunting in N Canada, my semi-auto shotgun ran into mechanical issues, and it became a very expensive single shot. I got back home, fixed it, and sold it, and bought a Mossberg 500 and a maverick 88. My Maverick 88 has been dropped in a swamp, ran over by a pick up, been in countless blizzards, gotten soaking wet in the rain, and gummed up with mud. After countless upland bird hunts and waterfowl hunts, It still works flawlessly after 15 years. I highly recommend them.
I’m retired from LE and the Army. You sir did an excellent job presenting your choices of five firearms and why. This is probably the best video that I have watched on this subject and the best presenter as well. Thank you.
I feel like the 9mm PCC should have been mentioned. It's SUCH a versatile platform. It can Essentially replace the 22LR. Cheap 9mm ammo runs about 25cents a round. They're small, lightweight, easy to shoot and they can do everything from training, plinking, defense, even Hunting if you know what you're doing. And small enough you can stuff one into a backpack and go unnoticed. I have a ton of firearms for different purposes but I feel like the PCC is a pretty viable 1 gun option.
Yeah I had that same feeling too. And was going to buy a scorpion/EP9/Ar-V or similar for training, home defense, etc. There’s just 2 advantages in bumping up or down a level: Number 1 is that 22lr is literally $0.05 a round if you shop smart so pre much 5x cheaper to train with than 9mm (as well, the guns themselves can be had for around $200-considerably less than most PCCs) Number 2 is that a standard AR15 is able to defeat pistol rated body armor (level 3A), even some rifle rated armor (level 3, using M855 ammo) which determined bad guys may very well be wearing. And a shotgun… darn that’ll mess someone up no matter what armor they’ve got on. On the other hand, people bave been known to take several hits from 9mm and still remain very lethal for some time So as for the 9mm carbine, it is a medium, and can get the job done most of the time, just I don’t think it covers either goal _optimally_ 🤷♂️ So if a person only had one gun, sure, maybe. But I feel like they would be better served by the other options he discussed. Shotguns and rifles just come at a tier above handgun rounds in terms of firepower, unfortunately. If you can only have one, get the one that’ll do the job best. You know what the job is.
Very true with a semi auto rifle, I told a friend who had never really shot before how to align the sights, had him shoot a few up close to see how he handled it, then took him to a 300 yard steel target in the next bay. After his first 5 he was consistently pinging steel at 300 yards with like 10 mins of instruction.
I am so very grateful to my husband and my son for helping me to learn to shoot and how important it is to find your favorite pieces. I'm a diehard S&W fan now. So happy that I know how to protect myself and people I care about. Thanks for your reviews. My family enjoys your channel. But I'm glad I watched them after I got my equalizer! 😂
Like what you’re saying in this video , I hope others will . I am an engineer combat veteran . I’ve always been on guard for my family and always will be. I feel for people that are truly afraid of guns.. the answer there is practice with them . Which is what I believe you said in this message. Thank you.
the more i practice with the walther ppqm2 the less i want to carry it appendix. so its a bedside gun. or if i know im going to a bad neighborhood gun.
I was a Drill Sgt in the Army I am a firm believer in self-defense. A weapons instructor I'm have taught a lot civilians over the years. 3 things you need to do. .Practice, Practice and Practice.
Sure, I agree if you have time. If you just want a simple self defense gun to store for just in case then get a revolver. Just pull trigger and it goes bang. In the night not much practice will help you aim so be careful....
I absolutely live my model 88, had it since I was 14, currently 29 and easily ran well over 6,000+ shells through it with no issues, I used it as a trapshoot gun and was out performing those with multiple thousand dollars guns. I definitely recommend the model 88
Brother, you are one of the best gun reviewers on the internet, and your advice is solid, sensible, and well thought out. Thank you for what youre doing for people.
That last part is so true, sure the world is seemingly burning but bringing up the spirits and the hope of people around you is and being a beacon for them is important to not let them fall into a spiral of dispair.
I've been watching your videos for a long time. You are one of the few Guntubers I keep coming back to because outside of 2A stuff I am for to the other end of the political spectrum from most gun peeps I meet. I appreciate your words at the end. Help your self, help your neighbor, help your community. Protect everyone you can. Change in incremental, together we can accomplish more. Thanks.
18:55: I remember hearing a story abut a boy who was walking with his grandmother along a beach; occasionally, he would pick up a starfish stranded on the beach and throw it back out into the ocean. The grandmother said, "Surely you don't think that makes a difference?" The boy picked up anther starfish, threw it into the ocean, and said, "Made a difference to that one."
@@TucoTheKillerI learned that when the police were told to stand down during the riots in Minnesota. Not long before, a TV talking head said we don't need guns. The police will protect us!
"Peaceful, not harmless" and "Do no harm but take no shit" are two mantras I've seen floating around that come to mind with your message in the video - i.e. looking at self-defense in an honest and objective matter. A lot of gun culture is unfortunately tied up with aggro nonsense and bad advice but the fact is self-defense is a human right. I appreciate your channel being one that cuts through the bullshit and puts out straightforward reviews and advice.
Fantastic video with a great message. I believe as a caring, lawful, member of society it is your civic duty to protect your family and the people around you. Stand together in love, train well, be prepared, and hope you never have to use those tools.
Kudos on the Mossberg pump. Low maintenance..high reliability, high lethality in close quarters. The Mossberg 500 Security Combo is an excellent choice if you want a long barrel for hunting as well.
I've been watching for quite a bit now and shooting even longer, and I think this is one of my favorite videos. You did a great job of outlining not just what you recommend people have, but why and each items functionality. I am a big fan of what you stand for and love your desire to give honest education to people that need it. Thank you!
When considering buying a gun I check your channel to see what you, think about it. Thank you, for putting your knowledge out there for all of us to absorb.
I'm a budget prepper and bought the first three new, I feel comfortable with what I have, anything else I see as a luxury. I'd also like to add that you should have at least 1000 rounds for each in a shtf scenario. Great video!!
Same here. My gun collection in total cost less than someone's over done ar 15 lol. I have everything I need to protect my family from potential threats.
It's better to have 1 gun and 1000 rounds than 3 guns and 50 rounds. Competent instruction is super important. Good practice can be done with dry fire. Use snap caps. They cost $10-$20. And follow up with real rounds. Snap caps don't train recoil management.
I honestly love, appreciate, and agree with everything you said about the reasons to own a gun, especially now. The viewpoints you have as well as not being those people who always push for the most expensive guns. Being humble and learning the platform with a 22 LR is exactly how I want to teach my nephew. You and your wife do such great work 👏 take care and God bless 🙌
I love my Mossberg 88 and I actually prefer its loading gate as it doesn't have that spring-loaded ramp that I always get pinched on or get my gloves caught in. Especially under a stressful situation I totally prefer it as I avoid my personal malfunctions.
Thank you, Chris! Everyone needs to hear this and believe it. I was fortunate my family believed in self protection and now am leading in my sphere of influence to promote that way of thought
Outstanding advice and pun intended, RIGHT ON TARGET. 37 years law enforcement in the most violent areas and assignments of our jurisdiction. Great advice all around. In 99.9 percent of violent incidents law enforcement won't arrive until AFTER the event is over. It really is up to the good citizen to defend him/herself and family. Outstanding job sir.
Good advice and well delivered. As a retired LEO, I will say that you definitely need to be able to fend for yourself until the police arrive. The way things are going these days it might be IF they arrive.
Not sure why people say 'nowadays'. I grew up in and around Gary, IN as a teenager during the 60s and today is no different than the drug/gang culture years.
@@kennethcurtis1856 You are saying that with mindset of someone from the 60's. Today people are ACTIVELY pursuing the path to take away your rights to defend yourself... as in people have made careers where their only pursuit in life is to take away your rights. This includes not only 2fa, but your right to come out innocent at the end of a self-defense trial.
@@jong2359He's pointing out that violent crimes against strangers is probably less likely now than the 60s-90s. Also you know gun laws outside of a few states are actually looser in alot of ways, CCWs, for instance, stand your ground laws, etc.
@@justalurker3489 not sure where you came to that conclusion, since he clearly stated "no different." There is not a single state that has loosened their laws, they have only provided the slack with which to hang yourself with (CCW, stand your ground law, etc.)
This is probably the most informative, fact based, well put together firearm video I’ve watched in a while. I grew up shooting but am just now getting back into it with the purchase of my radical ar15 and want to get my wife involved and trained. Great video. Great information. All around good work.
I CANNOT BELIEVE I’ve never seen your channel before bro! I got some binge watching to do this weekend, some of the best gun content I’ve ever seen!!! Hell yeah
Very informative to people who aren't very knowledgeable in firearms or are! I always learn someting new from your videos. Also I've watched the backlog videos, I have no doubt people will be able look into some options with how descriptive and battle tested your recommendations are! Thank you for being you and doing what you do!! I always look forward to your videos😀
Chris is by far the best 2A advocate that we have. Instead of focusing on divisiveness, he focuses on positivity. He delivers truth is a manner that makes me proud. I'm a Black Chicagoan who enjoys hunting/shooting and outdoors. I also work in law enforcement and I'm so proud of the way this guy handles business and reaches out to people across the entire spectrum. Great job, Chris!
This is probably the best firearms video I've seen as far as suggestions. You cover a lot of ground in a short time. Also, you are reaching a large group of gun owners regardless of experience as well as budget. I really appreciate this video and I've subscribed.
Chris, I gotta tell you, your efforts are truly making the world a better place. I want to thank you sincerely, things are bad, they seem to be getting worse, more and more I feel like my values, principles and priorities are not prioritized by those around me, but your voice tells me I am not alone in this. Thank you, good sir. God bless you and yours.
Your words on community and helping others have continuously impacted my outlook on our future not only as Americans but as people. Bless you and your Family!
I have the Maverick 88 and it is one of my favorite shotguns. It surprised me because it was really inexpensive. It shoots well, it’s accurate and it’s fun. You can always upgrade the furniture and have an adjustable stock and a fore grip that will accept a light.
I nominate you to be our 2nd amendment ambassador! Extremely knowledgeable factual advice and levelheaded regarding arms! Theres too many sensitive people making laws about how we defend ourselves today with no real sense of reality, what it takes to keep loved ones safe. Counting on the police to get there in time significantly lowers your survival chances to likely 50/50 or worse You get it great video brother! 👍👍👍
I have a Tristar Cobra 3 and I love it. It has been very reliable and holds up well. The only problem is it really doesn’t like 3” shells. It will cycle them but you really have to make sure you slide the pump fully to the rear and fully forward. For a $300 price tag, it’s a really good buy.
That 22LR pistol is easy to learn on like you said, Chris. No recoil, hardly any noise. Wow, all of what you said is right. Its how I got hooked on guns as well as my wife, daughter and sister. Awesome video as usual. Thanks again for all you do!!!
A .22LR? 🧐 I've literally shot/had pellet guns, bb guns, airsoft, dart, and paintball guns that are as loud as some .22's. Maybe you need to put you a plastic bottle on the barrel. 😆 .17 cal maybe...bow 🏹 ...crossbow...blowgun 🌬️...slingshot 🤔
Well said Sir! Great informative video for the masses! Thanks for all you and Mrs. Outlaw do! I believe your both in this UA-cam thing for putting out quality information that's not bought and paid for by the firearm industry. The fact that your channel is big enough to create an income stream for you two is a great thing! I for one have come to value the opinions expressed in your videos on top of all the other guntubers out there! Thanks for keeping it real!!
dude this was a great video im a law enforcement officer of 17 years here in central florida you did amazing job on this video being realistic and I enjoyed seeing you involve your wife which showed real world things my wife can shoot a pistol but is not good with a ar or a shotgun and like you said you have to be able to protect your own families I can see regular people getting a great overview from your video well done sir
Well said man, I'm always watching you from Chile, in where own a gun is restricted just only for 2 as personal defense, and for a 100 amo each once a year. This is basics, next step (on which I'm) is about sportsman shooting and hunting, on which your able to have 6 gun restricted to pistols, revolvers and shotguns, and so, buying 3000 amo each. Said this, I'm on the 8 gun permission and enjoy your reviews. Of courseI have two 1911, one of them a Colt from 1914, a Mossberg 500 ( pistol grip) and a G2c ( among others) which I bought after saw your honest review. All the best for you man, Cheers.
Great advice Chris! Based on your reviews I have acquired over the past 9 months a CZ P-10F, Hi-Point 995TS and a Mauser 1911 22lr (for the wife as she is intimidated by sound and recoil). Keep up the great content.
Good advice, I have several of the exact models you recommend, including the Mossberg 88, and a 10-22. My daily carry is a Ruger LC9, I have my trusty AR at the front of my safe, and a Remington 700 in 30-06 at the back for deer season.
I always appreciate your message and advice. Thankfully my father imparted the skills of gun safety, gun wisdom, and marksmanship to both my brother and me. I have prepared with the same sound template as you have outlined in this video. Keep the videos coming!
I'm 71, and never until the last 6-7 months felt vulnerable. I bought my 1st pistol about a month ago...a LE trade-in S&W .40, from Palmetto State Armory. Got about a magazine through it getting familiar with my new toy. And I just bought 4 different brands and weights of ammo, so I can figure out what it likes best. But the worst of it is, I feel the absolute necessity of packing for the first time in my young life. That sucks, large by wide.
My Father is 74. After the he survived the stomach cancer i gave him my .357 magnum to keep. He has the side permit for it in Finland. Now after no stomach but in ok condition he could still use it. Funny story he bought me the gun at age my age 15 or 16 (Now i am 45). He got special permit for me in Finland because i was so young. Now he is old and can use it if needed until he dies. It is not so easy to get permits to guns in Finland. If i had choise i would have given him my Glock 17 with red dot sight.
I live in Brasl, in here it is stupid how expensive and burocratic it is to get the papers to legally own firearms. We're seeing an increase in violence in the city, I have seem many neighbors movin out becasue of this... I really appreciate your videos! I like to know more about firearms and I wish people here had more responsabilty like you do.
My old lady had never fired any firearm before we met and was very afraid of them, but with some patience and determination I was able to get her comfortable, confident and very proficient with anything from my Glock 19 to my Daniel Defense AR’s and she absolutely prefers the AR! She capable with a shotgun, but much more comfortable with an AR and an EOTECH! Fantastic content as always and I can’t thank you enough for putting out these very thoughtful and timely videos! You and the Mrs are fantastic!
Remember when Joe Biden said that woman can't shoot an AR15 as well as a shotgun! He said AR15's are harder to aim, and harder to use than a shotgun. 🤣
@mrimd4643 while I have a soft spot for the 7.62x39, 5.56 is just mote plentiful and can shoot a little farther. 06 is nice but 308 can be bfpu if needed since it's NATO as is the winny. I said 6.5 because it shoots so much nicer than 308
I would have the same list. But I am slowly changing a couple things base off reasons and situations. Urban fighting in NYC or Alaska survival, or bugging out in the country. I change the 22 with the ar. Because of conversions kits. I get 556 and 22. For a general purpose like your list.
@calebgilmer5250 it's always mission dependent like I said in no certain order. One note though see how your rifle shoots with the conversion mine is good for playing around but not sure if it's good enough for foraging as much as a dedicated 22
@@desperado8605 for practice, training, and close distance hunting. From my knowledge is good enough or solid on all of these. But with 22 lr conversion kit. It makes it a 2 for 1 rifle. Then you can get full size pistol, a PCC or etc. If you can afford 5 gun plus extra stuff( scope, mags, etc)
@@mrimd4643 I understand the ak don't get me wrong. But if you are in the us. It honestly should be the AR. Because it America rifle. So much support for it. Military, le and everyone else uses the flatform. On the otherhand if in middle east . Most definitely will be AK. Because the ak is the AR in the middle east. If that makes any sense
My list 1. A pump action defensive shotgun 2. A .22 repeating rifle 3. A full or mid size defensive pistol 4. A smaller pistol for carry 5. A repeating rifle or carbine
Thank you for drumming home the idea of keeping yourself, your family and those around you safe, and then giving ways to do just that. That seems to get lost in translation with so many people in this awesome time we are living in.
Great video. One thing that I have found that helps in hand strength are a good set of quality stress balls. They usually come in 3 different firmness styles. About 4 months in working these my hand and wrist strength doubled. Helps with kickback and trigger strength. I use them while walking my hunting hound, watching TV, whatever. Cheap way to build hand strength.💪👍⚔️
Thanks for the reminder! I'm in need of building up my hand strength because of arthritis. I could be working my stress ball while I'm looking at the phone.🤷🏻♀️
I'll tell you I personally love my Browning Buckmark .22 pistol .. what a fantastic factory trigger!! Great Target gun and can double as a newbie training handgun and used for self-defense in the pinch... Yes the magazine holds 10 rounds but there are some states that have a MAG limit of 10 so this would be a great gun for a newbie or if you want a nice target pistol or for plinking
2 more good options for lower mid tier ARs are the Sig m400 and the Ruger mpr. Also on the bolt action side of things, if you can currently only afford a savage axis or a lower budget rifle there are plenty of aftermarket chassis and parts that you can buy later to build up your rifle. That’s what I’m in the process of doing with my axis rn.
I love your statement about “Maybe you can’t change the world, but you can change the environment around you, and maybe the people around you, and the effects will ripple out like waves on a pond.” That’s something I’ve learned over my lifetime, for sure. 👍
You have surpassed EVERYONE on the internet,as far as gun knowledge, to the everyday American. Always informational and informative videos, and my kudos ro your wife as well. I've slowly introduced my wife to firearms using your wife as a good motivational tool. Thanks to you both. Appreciate y'all.
I love everything about this video. Philosophically, I totally agree. Practically, I can’t build my collection right now. For my list, CZ P01., CZ Redhead, CZ Scorpion 3, Ruger 22LR (model tbd), CZ 527 carbine (7.62). My #6 would be a .45 (CZ 97BD). Yeah, I got a preferred brand. 🤗
The Maverick 88 was what we used to develop the OPSol flex adapter. In you video, you have one in your gun. Back then (2012), an 88 was $189 at Academy Sports. We still think an 88 with our adapter and minishells is a pretty solid home defense platform for the whole family.
A week or so ago i picked up an 88 security for 199.00 on sale because I thought it was a good deal and couldn't pass up. Didn't realize it was that close to the old price. Thanks for the reminder. 👍
@@jdminn4 During Covid, Mossberg called me to discuss how our sales were. I told him very good, and especially in states such as New York, which were not big buyers before. I asked how they were doing, and they said the same....their pump shotguns were selling big. I think about then is when the prices started to climb.
@@jdminn4inflation in the past year alone is about 5%. $189x1.05=$198.45. So $189 last year is worth about $199 this year. That means the mossberg going for $189 11 years ago is actually more expensive than they are today, adjusted for inflation.
@andreahighsides7756 It gets even better. Net inflation since 2012 using massively understated govt numbers is just shy of 35%. That 189 would be about 253 now.
If my wife can manage an AR-15, trust me, everyone can! I am 65. It took me few decades to finally get my wife to be a gun owner / carrier. This has been a goal of mine because I do love my wife and care greatly about her life, her safety. She now loves her AR. She can hit her target. She can operate it completely safely all by herself. Mostly, once she saw how society was going to crap in a basket, she bought into learning firearms. My wife is 5'3, 120 lbs. (plus or minus but I really do not go there any more). She now carries a G43X. She does very well with that pistol. Yes, if you can get an AR, get one. Learn it. Learn to clean it properly. Keep it clean. It could be just what you need when danger comes calling.
In Canada here we don't have much for 556 rifles that won't end up on a list, so the next option is the 9mm carbines. I love the new S&W M&P 9mm carbine. You can get that puppy out of the case, unfolded and into battery in 3 seconds. And the mags in the stock are a thing of beauty. I'm gonna get a second just to keep for when the daughter gets old enough for a PAL ❤
My psa's have thousands of rounds through them. My first was a bca upper that didnt make it 700 rounds before i sent it back. Too many problems to list here but they were cool enough to give me a refund like 6 months later. I can't imagine anyone else doing that.
Best quote I have heard this year:”it is your responsibility to take care of your own safety”. People call me a gun nut, but I honestly believe in the comments you stated in the intro.
Also the speech about affecting your community is true.
💯
I think a significant degree of Americans have arrived at this insight, after the George F. riots swept the Nation. Firearm sales have continued to break records, continuously.
Federal, state and local law enforcement share pretty much the same view, in that it is not their responsibility to protect you.
I don’t know, the line ‘should be kicked in the nuts’ was good for the person who starts off a new shooter with a 12 gage.
When I first got into firearm ownership a couple years ago I started almost exclusively following this channel and I’m reminded every week why this is the most quality and informative content on UA-cam for this community

The bolt action rifle should be chambered in a round that can be used on medium to larger game. Thus no 5.56's. .308 Win is perfect all around.
The Ruger Scout rifle chambered in .308 Win is an excellent option imo. They make a .350 Legend version also but you might run into ammo availability issues with that one.

5 minutes bare minimum, and that's if you live in a major city with a large police force. A lot can happen in 5 minutes.

Very well-put. I appreciate the nod to bolt actions as a self defense tool. They do lots of things better than most people give them credit for.
The economic aspect of the 12 GA pump is not to be understated. One great thing about a shotgun is the wide variety of ammo you can put in it which makes it kind of a one size fits all gun for somebody on a budget.

I’m a fairly new gun owner (about six weeks) by watching this channel I have become familiar with the four guns I’ve purchased. My girlfriend and I now shoot every Sunday and I show her how to assemble, and clean them. Thanks for all the advice you’ve given.
I’d recommend watching T-Rex arms as well since you’re a new gun owner
Beautiful love story.

Awesome!

Just built one from. Scratch shoots awesome.
Yeah I had that same feeling too. And was going to buy a scorpion/EP9/Ar-V or similar for training, home defense, etc. There’s just 2 advantages in bumping up or down a level:
Number 1 is that 22lr is literally $0.05 a round if you shop smart so pre much 5x cheaper to train with than 9mm (as well, the guns themselves can be had for around $200-considerably less than most PCCs)
Number 2 is that a standard AR15 is able to defeat pistol rated body armor (level 3A), even some rifle rated armor (level 3, using M855 ammo) which determined bad guys may very well be wearing. And a shotgun… darn that’ll mess someone up no matter what armor they’ve got on. On the other hand, people bave been known to take several hits from 9mm and still remain very lethal for some time
So as for the 9mm carbine, it is a medium, and can get the job done most of the time, just I don’t think it covers either goal _optimally_ 🤷♂️
So if a person only had one gun, sure, maybe. But I feel like they would be better served by the other options he discussed. Shotguns and rifles just come at a tier above handgun rounds in terms of firepower, unfortunately. If you can only have one, get the one that’ll do the job best. You know what the job is.
“You can’t just hope your way out of a situation” 💯 facts
Very true with a semi auto rifle, I told a friend who had never really shot before how to align the sights, had him shoot a few up close to see how he handled it, then took him to a 300 yard steel target in the next bay. After his first 5 he was consistently pinging steel at 300 yards with like 10 mins of instruction.

There is a saying that I really like: When seconds count, the police are only minutes away. Be ready to take care of yourself and your loved ones.
I don't believe things are worse but the news coverage is just much better
Your words on community and helping others have continuously impacted my outlook on our future not only as Americans but as people. Bless you and your Family!
You haven't made a video that I don't like. This one, BEST EVER before you even mentioned a specific gun brand. Keep it up.
I have the Maverick 88 and it is one of my favorite shotguns. It surprised me because it was really inexpensive. It shoots well, it’s accurate and it’s fun. You can always upgrade the furniture and have an adjustable stock and a fore grip that will accept a light.
Youd have to replace the action bars on it to the ones from a mossberg 500.
My buddy had an 88 and it was jam city
@@Oliver0200how on earth did he jam a pump shot gun? Lol.
@@Oliver0200if your friend had a pump action jam constantly HE was the problem NOT the gun. $20 he was short stroking the shit out of it.
Mav 88 is great! Many a bird taken. I have upgraded pump handel. Yes, 500 pump running bars get it done.
Hardly any noise? Sounds LOUD to me (w/o muffs).
YES YOU CAN! Thank you for telling everyone that, we all need to do our part to make this country better.
It's slowly eroding away to nothing thanks to the liberals.
Be kind to your neighbor…if only we could all do that. It would change the world.
If only we were all Ned Flanders.......
The Golden Rule
Great advice Chris! Based on your reviews I have acquired over the past 9 months a CZ P-10F, Hi-Point 995TS and a Mauser 1911 22lr (for the wife as she is intimidated by sound and recoil). Keep up the great content.
A *Mauser* 1911? What's that like?
@@AJadedLizard It has the look of a Colt 1911 A1 Government. It is made in Germany, probably by GSG, as aftermarket parts are the same for both.
Good advice, I have several of the exact models you recommend, including the Mossberg 88, and a 10-22. My daily carry is a Ruger LC9, I have my trusty AR at the front of my safe, and a Remington 700 in 30-06 at the back for deer season.
One of my greatest subscribes yet. You are well rounded brother 👍 honest, clear message & perfect explanation & demonstration.
I'm ex military and I learned a lot from this video. Great job. Keep educating us. God knows we need it.
Brasil makes some fine firearms for a low cost. My family own Taurus & Rossi , all been great, for all purpose shooting.
I agree 100% with the things you said here Chris. Don't forget police trade ins for high quality, low cost pistols as well.
This channel is amazing! Have learned so much watching and see so many guns I never would have even thought of or considered.
My 5 before finishing the video any order
A 5.56/223 rifle
A ccw/fighting pistol
Pump 12 gauge
Long range rifle 308/6.5 or 300wm
A semi auto 22 rifle
My list
1. A pump action defensive shotgun
2. A .22 repeating rifle
3. A full or mid size defensive pistol
4. A smaller pistol for carry
Nice to hear a gun enthusiast, who isn't nuts. Thanks for the refresher and the positivity.
I love your statement about “Maybe you can’t change the world, but you can change the environment around you, and maybe the people around you, and the effects will ripple out like waves on a pond.”
That’s something I’ve learned over my lifetime, for sure.
We sincerely appreciate you, brother!
As a person just getting into guns, this has been one of the best , thank you 🙏🏾 💯
The Maverick 88 was what we used to develop the OPSol flex adapter.
@guillermomaguire5394 I got my 88 loaded just like that too. Best combo ever for home defense
Great !!
I am surprised you didn't mention PSA and their $350 ish AR15. I'd do that over the BCA anyday
My psa's have thousands of rounds through them. My first was a bca upper that didnt make it 700 rounds before i sent it back. Too many problems to list here but they were cool enough to give me a refund like 6 months later. I can't imagine anyone else doing that.
BCA has had SO MANY ISSSUES! That was a Shocker....
