    I think it comes down to proficiency tbh. I've trusted, carried, and trained extensively on a 17 for years on duty. My partner carries the 45 and he's a beast with it too. We've switched guns having fun at the range and we are both worse with eachothers guns. This was great video to demonstrate differences but if you train with something enough you'll get good at it. The firearm can only do so much before you have to start putting in work too.

      Hands down, the 17 is *always* more accurate than the 45 *from the front sight position* and not from the holster.

    Both guns perform very similarly for me. One economic variable to consider with the Glock 45 is if you already have a bunch of Glock 19 sized holsters you now have a good full frame option without having to totally re-equip.
    I agree that the G19 sized slide clears the holster a *little* quicker but that’s just me.

    Really like the G45, but I'm leaning more towards the G17 Gen5 MOS being red dot ready. Sometimes, I wish my G19 Gen4 MOS had the larger grip, so the G17 Gen5 MOS fits the bill.....and it's less expensive than the G34 Gen5 MOS.

    The only tangible, measurable advantage of the 45 is measured not in what it does better than the 17, but is measured in what it DOESN'T do.......and that is stab me in the balls during appendix carry. I prefer to carry full size pistols, but 3 O'clock carry is impossible without clothing considerations due to major printing. Appendix let's me carry whatever I want while wearing whatever I want....with the caveat of barrel length. Normally I carry a 34 (Deal with it) and it will stab me in the balls sometimes and so will a 17. The barrel length cut off for ball stabbing is 4 inches in my experience (I'm 5'11 so your mileage may vary), giving an edge to the 45/19/26 sized guns, but I greatly prefer a full frame and grip. Hope you enjoy my Science on barrel length to ball stabbing ratio.

    I daily carried 2 Glock 17's Gen 4's for a long time, then picked up the Gen 5, it fits perfectly in my hand and I can hit center mass at 30 yards no issues. Currently I have a 2nd Glock 17 Gen 5 coming to me from budsgunshop and have sold my older Glocks. The thing is, what works for you, works for you, end of story. I personally don't like pistols with smaller barrels, and while the 17's barrel is around 4.5 inches, it feels like a small gun compared to other similar pistols with that size barrel.

  • @velos3989

    Basically, if you carry AIWB or OWB without a light, the G45. I like the 45 because I can easily conceal the 45 grip AIWB and like how the slide doesn’t bother me when sitting for a long period of time. That said, if you are running any decent WML, the 17 is the way to go. It has a little less muzzle flip, more sight radius, and more velocity, and the length doesn’t really matter because the light already protrudes. Pretty much the same gun tho lol

    For me personally as a Glock fanboy and someone with banana hands I like the larger grip of the 17 and 45 over the 19, and there is something about the balance and shootability of the 45. There’s that X factor of having a shorter slide and longer grip for more control that just feels... Glock Perfection.

I have no plans on selling it either. my only regret? No keeping one of my J Frame Smith's as a backup gun. At the Prices vintage J frames now command, I may yet buy a G43 as a backup gun. I was watching “mike the cop” and he made the point of mentioning that during a review test he took as a police officer they were made to do enough cardio/calisthenics until they sweat, then made to go in and take the test. The chemical dump of a self defense situation is seriously underrated on how it affects your accuracy and motor skills, so seeing how it affects your draw and firing of the 17 and 45 would be interesting to test out.

    If a cop (or anyone) is running a good weapon light it's no shorter and no faster than a G17. That's just wasted space above the tip of a weapon light that could be used for a longer sight radius and greater (however minimal) velocity. The G45 strikes me as something larger dudes could more easily appendix carry than a G17, but still get a better grip than on a G19 (or you could just put +2 extensions on your G19 mags or use G17 mags with a spacer...). As a duty gun it just doesn't make sense to me as having a Surefire or TLR1-HL is the industry standard right now. But I don't doubt that they will sell well and stand the test of time, even if it's just a Glock 19 with a G17 mag in it.

    Depends on how you run them. If you run a weapon light like a TLR-7A and a red dot the G45 makes sense, the sight radius doesn’t matter due to the dot and you can clear your holster faster and it’s more comfortable. If you are running a X300 I’d go G17(it shoots softer IMO) due to the length not being an issue.

      @@5jjt , Yes, I have. In fact, I've shot every generation of Glock 17's. It is my experience that the G17's longer barrel is more flippy; which slows down my follow up shots. Strangely, I do not have the same issue when it comes to my Glock 34. As an actual carry gun, sitting, especially in vehicles, is awkward and uncomfortable with the G17; and for me, drawing from the holster is faster with the G19 length slide, as opposed to the slightly longer G17. The G45 allows me the best of both worlds. I get the full grip purchase and round capacity of the G17, along with the quickness and comfort of the G19. For most concealed carry situations, the G19 is still my 'go to', in the Glock range of pistols. With my gut, it's sometimes difficult to conceal the longer butt of the G45.

    Your point about law enforcement and sitting in a car with a Glock 45 as a benefit is 50/50 correct.
    If you don't have a light on your Glock45 then you can have a shorter holster (the Glock19 holster in duty holsters), if you are like most LEOs and have a light mounted on your weapon then there is no benefit to the shorter G45 as the exact same holster must be used for the Glock 17 and Glock 45 for duty. This is the case with Safariland at this time, I'm not sure about other manufacturers.

      Yea you could use something like an inforce APLc or a Surefire XC1 but you wouldn't get near as much light

    • @AgentOneRep
      @AgentOneRep 5 років тому +3

      Correct, I really thought about switching from the g17 to the g45 but since I run the surefire x300, the shorter slide is irrelevant. And when you are searching vacant houses and buildings; you want all the light possible.

    Hey, I just found this video and watched it. I want to give my response to your bottomline about these 2 guns. first of all they are very different in one significant difference that you didnt mention. BALANCE! the glock 45 is better balanced because of the shorter slide and the longer hand grip. This means, better control, which means better accuracy ( if you have been practicing ) which ultimately means, stopping and surviving your threat. As for which one is "faster" to draw? it should be obvious that the slightly smaller g45 will be faster, because there is less weight being moved! ( again back to the balance of the g45 ) As for long range shots? : / ofcourse a longer barrel is going to give longer range. : / BUT these are hand guns. They are personal tools for self defense and protection. Like you said, your most likely not ever going to need to shoot at 25 yards in life threatening situation. its possible, but mostly improbable. At close distances, the advantage would have to go to g45. again, because its slightly smaller. easier to draw, handle, shoot, and maneuver. All very important options to have in an emergency life threatening situation. AND THE G45 IS EASIER TO CONCEAL CARRY, ( unless you use a shoulder holster? than the G17 would conceal fine ) but you have more options of conceal carry with the G45. so that is another important option to have if you are every in an emergency situation. I think your tests would have gone better in better conditions. Certainly because it was cold, you had to be very cold too, and that definitely affected your abilities and performance! when we are cold? we are slower to think, slower to react, slower to move. Our bodies are set at a tempature of 98-99 degrees for a reason! ( just saying ) I think the bigger issue here is.. IS THE GLOCK 45 BETTER THAN THE 17? AND HOW AND WHY???? ( and i just answered all of those questions ) Its a new, improved, better combat handgun. Unfortunately not everyone will like it. ( alot of people still think its better to have a 6-7-8 shot 44 magnum, than it is to have a 15 round 10mm ( glock 20 ) : / But the facts are the facts! and the experience alone of handling and shooting all of these different guns should tell everyone the facts, and the truth. And finally i want to say i hope you are appreciating your partner there! Because she is a great multi tasker and has a good eye for sunsets and pretty sky views! : ) ( i say that respectfully ) Good women are just so hard to find these days. Ok, well, i know this video was several years ago, but i thought incase new people were looking at all the comparison videos of these two hand guns? and saw your video here and heard your bottomline on the subject? That i should say what i have said to make them aware of other facts you didnt cover. Have you made an updated video since? Im sure by now you have become aware of all the things i pointed too. You should do an update if you havent already?.. All the best to you both!

    Honest Outlaw, I retired out of the United States Navy PNC Personelmam Chief Petty Officer. E7. I recently took armed security job. I bought the Glock 17 Gen 5. Your video here was really good sir. All that said. I am thinking 124 Grn Federal Hydra Shock for duty ammo. Alot of folks tell me carry plus P. I simply believe that standard pressure 9mm rounds is enough. Shot placement. What do you think duty ammo?

    I am a big fan of the 19x. But gosh darn Gaston Glock really got it right the first time. G17 will probably always be used as a standard as long as 9mm is being shot.
    I am obviously very biased towards Glocks in general tho. great video.

    I see the benefit of less reciprocating mass on the slide of the 45. However, if you plan on carry a light I feel the benefit of the shorter barrel doesn’t apply.

    The only reason I bought a g45 was to put a kkm comp on it without making it ridiculously long. If I were buying another full size glock to keep stock I’d get a 17 or maybe a 34. The draw speed difference is negligible imo between a 17 and the 45. Especially since my x300 kinda makes it the length of a 34

    Great video man! I have a Gen3 Glock 17 RTF2 that's been workhorse and I thought about getting the new 45. But after this I'm gonna stick with my 17. I don't there is a big enough difference to warrant buying a new Glock. Thanks for braving the cold for us!

    • @NathanaelFaunce
      @NathanaelFaunce 5 років тому

      Aspen Savage if you’re going to get two glocks, might as well get two different glocks like a 17 and a 26. The 17 is primarily a range gun and the 45 is primarily a law enforcement gun. The only reason you’d want/need the slide length and capacity of the 45 is if you’re going to be open carrying, sitting in a car for prolonged periods of time, and need maximum capacity.

    Another minor, but real difference is velocity. The G17 will generate bullet speeds of about 30-40 fps higher than the G45. This results in increased muzzle energy of around 20 foot pounds. Not huge, but, should lead to better, more reliable hollow point expansion. If you're not going to carry OTW, get the G17. If you're going to carry concealed, you likely would be better served by the G19 than the G45.

  • @Resident-cb3yz
    @Resident-cb3yz Рік тому

    New point to this could be that you can use same holster with Glock 45 and Glock 44 (.22 LR). Training with cheaper ammo has some benefits. Sure they are different in few aspects but still benefits are there compared to dry fire.
