    Jeep obviously makes very capable off-road vehicles, but I just can’t get past their reliability issues no matter who the current owner of the name plate is. Great review. I’ve tried other vehicle review channels but yours is by far the most professional, comprehensive and well videographed of any I’ve seen.

      My buddy’s Wrangler blew its motor and he dismissed it as a “Jeep thing.” It cracks me up when fanboys make excuses for it like it’s a feature. Lol

    I wish Jeep would bring back the gas-engine Trailhawk. The 4xe is cool but it's priced almost double what I'd expect to have to pay for a GC. It's probably the only reason I don't own one right now. Very interested in this review thanks.

    I love the look and the interior of this generation of Grand Cherokee. I am going to hold off buying a Jeep right now since a co-worker purchased a Wrangler 4xe a year and a half ago with nothing but problems. They have already replaced the transmission, replaced the hardtop due to manufacturing defects, and has had numerous engine stall issues. Seems like every other week he is driving a loaner or rental because his Wrangler is in the shop. If Jeep can get it’s reliability up I would love to have a Grand Cherokee in my garage.

      I share your sentiment. I grew up in a Mopar family and still have 2 old Dodges (66 and 74). However, my wife and I have 2 Acuras (2012 and 2013) that have over 120k and 164k miles. Any issues were minor and they continue to serve us well. I sincerely would want to consider a new Jeep GC one day, and if I were, it would be one with the most basic powertrain that has been tried and true.

    I think you should consider putting more numbers as text on screen. Especially because you are an off road oriented channel, I would appreciate a slide at the beginning of the drive section stating approach, departure, breakover, and max and min ground clearance (for air suspensions).

    I really enjoy seeing things come and go with vehicles. Auto makers always try new stuff. Some of it doesn't work, but some of it stays permanent. Piano black is going to run its course. There was also a very short era of having screens without volume knobs.

    As for the GC 4xe. I like the GC and the GC 4xe. Off road ability of Jeep with a luxurious interior that Stelantis has leaned in to. What would stop me from buying it? Complexity. From a brand that still has to build trust to get the simple things right... Combining a two-speed transfer case with adaptive suspension AND a plug-in hybrid system on a non-Toyota product. No. I pause at a standard GC much less a plug in hybrid.

  • @brnscofrnld
    @brnscofrnld Рік тому +6

    The PHEV aspect is very much on a case-by-case basis. We can charge regularly and do most of our errands/commuting within electric range (round trip) and have been able to hit 950 miles between needing to fill up on gas. We also lucked out with a bunch of free L2 chargers around our area that aren't ICEd often or at all. Potential buyers also need to keep in mind what their cost per kWh is vs. what the price per gallon of fuel is if they are more concerned about the cost of running one of these.
    As for the passenger screen, it came standard on our Base trim, and we have used it maybe a handful of times. It could be used if you are offroading with a passenger, and they can view the cameras on that screen at any speed. We have also used the TomTom nav, and the passenger can look up destinations on the fly and send them over to the main screen. The HDMI port does allow you to hook up any number of FIRESTICKS or equivalent, but then you are at the mercy of a data plan and connection. It stays off most of the time.

    I already have one, not the XE though, but thanks for showing the can you sleep in it part. I think someone up to 6 foot tall can sleep in the back if your aren't sleeping like a corpse. The width inside is about 40" between the wheel humps. A Toyota 4 Runner has about 4 inches less of laying down room if you wanted to sleep in it, so I didn't get a 4 Runner. I didn't want a L version, I imagine you get another 3-4 inches in those.

    I’m really disappointed that you can no longer get the Trailhawk model with the 3.6L V6 engine. I sincerely hope Jeep brings it back. I’m not sold on the hybrid engine because the batteries on the electric motor, which actually adds a lot of power, run out of steam way too quickly. I drive primarily on the highway and the V6 gets better highway gas mileage than the hybrid engine. So I really don’t see much point in the hybrid engine unless they increase the battery range to 50 miles.

    Good review, but I'd like to see this on the DC off-road course. I seriously looked at one of these along with the Kia Sportage PHEV. The problem with both of these is that the price to MPG ratio is ridiculous - you pay a premium and there is literally no advantage. The Kia is a little better in terms of MPG, but it's also $50k+ for a very plastic interior. The Jeep is just way too much, you might as well buy a Range Rover or something German with similar MPG (or a Lexus GX if you want to come back from your off-road adventures...).
    It's not really a question of saving $ on gas - you'll never come out ahead, just forget that, but MPG has a huge impact on range, which is a big deal if you spend any amount of time in the bush.
    Like I've said on other videos, I bought a used Jag F-Pace diesel which gets mid-30's on the highway ~500 miles of range and has all the Land Rover off-road electronics & suspension. With the leftover $$$, I bought a BMW i3 with the range extender generator ~75 miles on electric & ~75 miles on the generator. Best of both worlds, these two replaced a Volvo wagon (loved it but terrible gas mileage) and a VW GTi.

    Very confused by the reporting of the mileage in this video. What's the mileage when running in a "normal" hybrid mode, where the gas engine and electric motors are operating in tandem? I also don't understand an "off-road" review test that's mostly on fire roads and not the Driving Sports private trails to truly test and compare it to other off-road vehicles tested there.

    • @normanrabbitlee
      @normanrabbitlee Рік тому

      The milage is about 35 mpg in hybrid mode. When you speed up and have tons of fun like Ryan, the mpg drops a lot. The car super fun when you have full battery. Also the smaller charging motor for electric is super loud too. He did not say about that.
