I was telling him everything during the whole process. These videos have made a world of difference for me. Thank you for taking the time for the rest of us.
For me e-save button is a blessing , while i use it for charging my battery. Let me explain why, i drove 94 miles daily and I don't need to charge my phev for this journey too. I start my car and drive about 27 miles on ev and then when the battery is low it shifts itself to hybrid but i purposely shifts it to e-save to charge my battery while I'm cruising on highway where my car already gives me a good mpg then before arriving to my destination i engaged my ev again when it's fully charged so that the last 10 miles i have in city not highway i save fule and use electric which i generated while cruising on highway. This makes my life easy and i never needed to charge my phev.
@@JeepsOnTheRun tbh on my full tank it's giving me around 3.9 liter / 100 km with this kind of driving , i thinks it's not going to be better then that
Yeah esave will always use more fuel. Charging or keep the charge with do the same. It better to drain the battery completely and let the vehicle do it thing. It harder for the engine to charge the battery when the battery is charge compare to when the battery is dead. That why easier and faster to charge from 0 to 80% then 80 to 100%.
I always leave it in hybrid unless I’m camping. Then I save all the battery for running the campsite. And ESave Charge is my favorite mode. The 4xe is basically a 1100 amp hour battery with a built in generator, a Jackery with 1/3 the capacity is $3500 and no generator. In good weather you can power a campsite for a couple of weeks.
What a great idea! How do I set up pulling power off of the hybrid battery at my campsite? And when you do that, do you then drive in Maxx regeneration mode in order to regenerate the battery when there is no power available at the campsite?
We have a cabin in the mountains. When driving down, max regen is a game changer in our 2024 Willys 4xe. We can go for about 37 miles down without touching the brake pedal unless there is a hiker or animal crossing.
Yep, NOW that's where this REALLY comes onto play. Like I said in the video, mountains = YES :). I'm not saying it's not a useful option, but in daily traffic - it's not equally as useful.
I just ordered my 2024 Willys 4xe (Tuscadero!) and this is one of the things that sold me during the test drive. I live in a mountainous area and there's a pretty steep hill that I drive often. Shout out to Alan at Northpoint Jeep in Derby VT for thoroughly explaining everything to me.
Thanks for the great video! As stated, Max Regen is nice for downhills, but it's also nice to push on exit ramps. I look at it as braking assist with benefits! Also, I like to use the electric mode for accelerating to highway speeds (gracefully) before going to gas-mode (e-save) for cruising. Puts less torque/wear on the engine. Your worse MPG is usually during acceleration. Of course, the aerodynamic of a Jeep do not help much @ 70MPH
I agree with everything everyone said. I use Max Regen more as a convenience feature. On Highways it is definitely OFF, Mountains - ON, For coasting (also, Highways) - OFF. But, I do use it often to drive around the neighborhood and around town, because after a while you know how much it reacts to get the car to slow down. I think "Max Regen off" is probably more efficient and it seems to give me 1-3 KW when I am coasting, without me having to accelerate if misjudged. Great video.
E-save - Charge comes in handy if you want to build up some charge for those rest stops /or stealth camping situations when you want some heat or a/c but don't want to run the engine
I run electric exclusively for my local travel and usually run at least 150 plus a week on electric. As far as FORM, I haven't had that appear yet, but probably will at some point, I don't know. I have accelerated hard many times, but it has not switched over to gas when I do that, it just gets up and goes. I can say I haven't bought gas for over a month, so for us it works as we thought it would. A road trip will be a different story. Your video is good info to know, however. Thanks.
More often than not, if Iam using esave it’s because I over pushed it and the engine has started. Now that the ICE is running, I want to get the oil temp up to at least 195° to help evaporate off fuel that might get into the oil. Since it tends to be a bit cooler where I live, I will use battery charge to make the ICE work a little bit harder and reach that temp. Otherwise, I charge at home and at work. My commute is around 24mi round trip. With such a short commute, Iam probably using more battery power than most. I generally stay in electric mode, and only switch to hybrid when Iam going on a longer trip that will exceed the range. It made sense for me when I bought the vehicle in January, because I knew I would be saving a ton on gas, while still having the benefits of a Jeep.
The battery charge mode is for when you have the power pack plug and you are using it to run appliances. In Max charge mode, if you watch the regen meter, light gas peddle is the same as coasting, you are not using electricity, its just not charging as hard.
Great video! For me and my driving I find Max Regen gives me less battery miles and worse MPG. I run Max Regen off most, if not all the time. My 2024 latches on Hybrid and Electric but not on E-Save. Would be nice it it did all 3.
Charge mode is for if you need the extra power of the battery in hybrid, but it’s depleted. You can recharge it and get the full power potential of gas +electric together.
That's actually false. When the battery shows depleted on the dash, the Jeep still has all of the full power. The system is snare enough to keep enough power in the system so the driver doesn't have to think about it.
@@JeepsOnTheRun Which drastically taxes the battery using high current at a low charge state, again, the point of charge mode is to be able to get the juice for when you need it and have no other way of charging. It’s not an efficiency feature, it’s a performance feature. You can absolutely deplete the battery entirely when running in E mode, or hybrid mode in off road situations to where it effectively has no power to deliver, and charge mode gives you a method of getting it back, at the expense of being highly inefficient.
@@JeepsOnTheRun Also, do you have the power box? Because that’s also a valid use for charge mode. Being that the 4xe also serves as a generator at least the newer models do.

It almost sounds like it has a Jake brake like on a diesel? is it really worth it? thanks for your review👍
Honestly - these are great vehicles. Leave it in hybrid mode and drive it. The real learning curve is charging it. the more frequently you charge, the better off you'll be as far as MPG. These videos are more for those who want to dive deep into them. Don't like this seem like it's over complicated.
OMG! Thanks for the Laman explanation. My husband just brought me a 2024 Rubicon 4xe and I have nooooo idea what the hell I'm doing. Now I know I will keep my jeep in hybrid.... thank you😂
I use strictly Electric mode, because in hybrid, it tend to start the gas engine, if I get on the throttle a bit at the stop sign or red light, it will kick in the gas engine, it doesn't in electric mode, and a lot of those starts can cause FORM since the engine just starts and is not used again, so it will not get up to temp. hybrid vs electric is about throttle tolerance, there is less in hybrid, meaning the gas engine tend to kick in when it's not needed. The goal of my upcoming Jeep purchase is to drive to a campsite and stay there for up to a week and go hiking etc. It is not to commute to an office or drive around town. I will have no access to power while I’m at the campsite. Does it make sense therefore to buy a gas Wrangler over a hybrid to save money on the purchase price? Or will the hybrid actually have an advantage for me in this situation? I’m thinking the only advantage may be that I can use the jeeps battery to help power things when I am camping. But there may be no advantage in actual miles per gallon if I am driving 300 miles to go stay at a campsite with no power.
a 4xe would definitely work for this situation. You could run in E save to keep the batter power until you get to a site. I'd look for a 4xe that was equipped with the "Power Box" as an option. It would be a 24 or later, but not all came with it from factory, and it can't be added later.

Yes, even with a dead battery there is a "reserve" which allows the Jeep to act as a hybrid. Charging the jeep with e Save will do nothing besides kill your MPG. YOu're using the engine power to charge your battery so there's no real gain in doing that. If you can't charge the Jeep you're still just best off in hybrid mode for your best MPG
Greetings from a Tiny Island in Maine, USA Does the battery drain just sitting parked? I charged it to 100 then it sat for about 24 hours. Went out and less than 1%?
@TinyIslandMaine I would confirm the vehicle is off and check again. You really should have no depletion of battery while it's parked. Especially for a very short period of time
Just bought my wife a Grand Cherokee 4xe Summit and her commute to work everyday is only about 3 miles each way so we could really go forever on just batteries alone aside from road trips here and there. I am not sure if her only using electric to go to work everyday is really hurting us in the long run or not? How would you balance that sort of commute and driving?
I'd for sure use gas as some point in your longer travels that will allow the engine to heat up. Otherwise you'll find yourself in FORM. see this video: ua-cam.com/video/Mx1ZT8--kmk/v-deo.htmlsi=bO8QO7TvnStsTIgE

(I'm sort of spitballing here) Do you thing Max-Regen would be handy while trailing or driving in the mountains? Can you recharge the pack some by toggling Max-Regen on/off?
Those are fair points where E-save might help, I can agree with that. Max regen is a huge benefit in the mountains for sure, it will put energy back into the battery system.
I do use E-Save sometimes when I know I have to drive a mix of freeways and city (more freeway and + 50 mls). Then I keep some charge for the city traffic. I think the engine is probably more efficient running at highway speeds but definitely not in city traffic.

Help!! My 2024 Rubicon 4xe had an update yesterday 10/17/24 and it took away the feature I had on my navigation screen which was the inside and outside temp feature. I liked that on there. How do I put that back.
We only drive around 20 miles most days. Retired and things are really close. Should we just put it in electric mode. We have a high speed charger installed in our garage so we can plug it in for the night. Should that be okay? Bought out 2023 used and they knew nothing about it. Thanks 🙏
From a standpoint of gaining the most efficiency , charging with the engine doesn’t make sense. You're using the gasoline to charge the battery, just to then use the battery to propel the engine. The most effective way is to plug the Jeep in to charge it. You'll just spend more at the pump if you use the engine to charge.
To summarize, none of the mode buttons are useful, Hybrid-> Electric until battery runs out then gas engine, Electric->Electric until battery runs out then gas engine, eSave->Electric until 20% battery runs out then gas engine. Remember as soon as you cross 50% threshold the gas engine kicks in whether you are in Hybrid or Electric mode. So stupid. Also worth noting, the regen is a lie, if you charge 20% at the wall you will get x miles, when you regen for 20% you get x/2 miles. For some reason Stellantis Engineer thought it would be a good idea to reward fake charge numbers under regen. You test it out yourself and use the mileage in odometer as a proof, not the regen display. Finally the cost of charging oh god so many misinformation out there, it's not 17KW/h x (cost per KW at home). You have to factor AC to DC conversion loss and resistance on load from 80% to 100%. Then add heat dissipation over the cheap Chinese DC converter and board in the Jeep. Yeah lookup the part numbers yourself, it's a Chinese third party that manufacture for Stellantis... Bottom line your first 20 miles cost you about 1$ less than running gas at 24 miles a gallon. And people are wondering how come Jeep is doing so bad?
I owned one for a full year. There really is no reason to drive somewhere and preserve the battery from a practicality standpoint, so that setting is kind of stupid. The hybrid and ev setting are essentially the same thing, the ev mode keeps the engine off for slightly longer. The efficiency on the thing is horrible. The 4xe is less efficient than a gas version since the overall mileage is worse on longer trips. Around town on battery only it gets the equivalent of 24 mpg. The brake regen does absolutely nothing, i tested it and no increased range is gained. The battery charge option works on long trips and doesn’t result in less gas mileage with testing. Not sure why that is even something that can be turned off. The thing is a novelty, the only positive is additional power.

Scenario for electric mode only. The battery has 50km and it takes me 28km to get to work where i have another recharge port. Never using gas
You will still be forced to burn that fuel in the tank after a given amount of time.
What is hybrid mpg
Hate I even bought one b4 watching your video. The 4 cylinder motor is loud and slow after the minimal battery runs out.
You should have NO power difference regardless on battery charge
We only drive around 20 miles most days. Retired and things are really close. Should we just put it in electric mode. We have a high speed charger installed in our garage so we can plug it in for the night. Should that be okay? Bought out 2023 used and they knew nothing about it. Thanks 🙏
I'd just leave it in hybrid mode and charge as frequently as you can
I dont understand this. Battery charge setting makes perfect sense. What is the real world mpg difference to engage it? Power difference?
From a standpoint of gaining the most efficiency , charging with the engine doesn’t make sense. You're using the gasoline to charge the battery, just to then use the battery to propel the engine. The most effective way is to plug the Jeep in to charge it. You'll just spend more at the pump if you use the engine to charge.
no need for sport mode. Just do hybrid it’s faster
For me the regen is useless,as someone said iff i lived on a steep mountain then maybe
Well, some of them have their place depending on your situation. I feel for 95% of people hybrid is the best.
The buttons are completely useless
@@nerdyeevideos1879 I mean. Generally. But there are times you might decide otherwise.
So just leave it in hybrid…. Lol
Well, I do mention that in the 1st part of the video lol:)
@ absolutely. And thank god for your video because the dealership didn’t know what they were talking about and confused me even more
👎
What's there to dislike?
Electric dies fast 😂
It's all about how often you charge.. It's a pHEV not an EV
