Tommy you did TFL proud once again. Very professional. Very informative. Impressive.
Thanks so much! -Tommy
Dude it was getting so close to clipping the rocks on the bodywork… anxiety inducing
❄️
I swear on one it just kissed the rock
Not the beautiful paint! It's a risky game out there
I wonder if he damaged the Jeep, would he be liable for the damage?
This course was leaps and bounds more challenging than the Toyota one in Texas. This is the type of road I drive to my hunt/fish camp. That SUV is pricey and then some.
It got alot of goodies for the price actually
I think it competes with some luxury suvs
My 2018 GC Overland was a tick over $52K. This one isn’t much more four years later. My Overland is the most comfortable vehicle I’ve ever owned and it will hang with some pretty serious off road vehicles.
Because it's a jeep course
If you want the best your going to pay for it period
Hope the trailhawk version will have a selectable rear locker like the Cherokee trailhawk
Cant wait for the track hawk
my dream car, cant wait to see it
Sorry to say but I heard they are cutting future trackhawk production for the GC under Stellantis...

It would be very interesting to see how the Grand Cherokee handles Truth and Dare.
Or cliffhanger 2.0
@@coolsquad7428 Truth or Dare is part of Cliffhanger 2.0. Truth is the easier line and dare is the full send line. I think this GC might be able to do Truth, but may have trouble with the articulated turn above it.
That thing with a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel is a keeper!
That’s my only regret with mine. I have the GC with an Ecodiesel but not 4x4.
Lol it'd be anything but a keeper, I'd go with the V8 if it's something you plan on keeping long term. I'd honestly take the V6 gasser over the diesel, have heard they are nothing but problems. TFL even made a post a while pack of a viewer saying his Diesel GC died at 107k miles if that tells you anything...
Diesels are so overrated for smaller non-towing vehicles.
@@Ww8.3 I had a diesel Audi Q7, 800+ miles of range per tank, that is why.
@@xavierid that’s a street car. These diesels have more emissions crap on them that can go wrong when off-roading extensively
I think Jeep has done a great job with the Grand Cherokee. It really is best in class. With that specific four wheel drive system, the air bags, and an aftermarket set of knobby tires that thing will likely go just about anywhere unless you really need to rock crawl. Great video!
I need that! Can’t wait to see if the Trailhawk comes about eventually!
It does.....
Had to Edit! Only available in 2 row. Still wouldn't trade my 2017 tho. Hello, from Aurora Colorado

Your channel has gotten so good. Anytime I want to see a car, you guys do it. It’s so great! Happy for you guys.
Nice to see Jeep didn’t water down the off road capability of the WL vs. the WK2!
You guys are going to have to do a review 3row family haulers that can take you the furthest. Doubt any Ford Explorers or GMC Acadias are doing that kind of off-roading.
The Ford Everest (which isn't available in North America) is a very off-road capable 3-row SUV. Probably just as capable as the Grand Cherokee.

@10:05 The Grand Cherokee L price list made Tommy speechless and that does not happen very often.
Every video Tommy gets better and better well done!!
Great video! I wish we had mountain trails here! Tommy you do great work!
Great video Tommy! 🙌🏼 Thanks for always bringing us valuable info! It’s also nice seeing you and your Father do videos together and talk cars :) Reminds me of awesome time spent with my Father may God bless his soul. My Father owned the first Grand Cherokee ZJ and 2nd gen WJ and I’m continuing the family tradition with the WK along with owning a Wrangler TJ and a Liberty KK. Tommy, you mentioned at the end of this TFL video (17:30) that you’d like to do a comparison of the ZJ, WJ and WK offroad systems and capabilities. I would be very happy to offer my 2007 WK 5.7L Hemi with Quadra Drive 2 for that comparison. There is definitely a fascinating evolution there going with front and rear solid axles of the ZJ and WJ to the IFS and solid rear axle on the WK to the full independent suspension on the WK2 and WL. This evolution solidifies the Grand Cherokee as the luxury offroad SUV face of Jeep and also confirms the Wrangler JKU and JLU as the 4 door heavy duty offroad SUV face of the Jeep brand. This evolution of the Grand Cherokee carries into the engine options, torque as well as the 4WD systems with Command, Selec and Quadra Trac on the ZJ, Quadra Trac 1 and 2 and Quadra Drive on the WJ and Qudra Trac 2 and Quadra Drive 2 on the WK to the current and subdued WK2 and WL Quadra Drive 2 version. The WK’s Quadra Drive 2 (QD2) offers an Eaton ELSD front and rear Diffs that provide full lock in 4Lo (unlike the QD2 on WK2 and also the WL which offers only ELSD on the rear diff and a brake lock diff in the front). The WK QD2 is a monster that locks the front and rear drive shafts and the front and rear diffs in 4Lo plus the 5.7L Hemi’s 370lb/ft of torque (multiplied by 1: 2.72 ).....Wow! IMHO It’s the closest one can get to a JL Rubicon in a unibody SUV. You have to try it to believe it! I’m going to be in CO next week coming from SoCal to check out the passes in beautiful Ouray. Kindly let me know. Cheers! 🤙🏼
Very very, in and out. Very impressive capability on the test course.
Love seeing that even the L is going to be capable. As far as taking a 68k vehicle off road...why not? I've taken my 55k WK2 to multiple off road parks and although it may have some scuffs and dents, it's a Jeep... it just gives it character.
I am amazed at you, while you are driving through narrow path, and talking to audience…that’s very very impressive.. and Jeep looks great..
My favourite Grand Cherokee was the 2nd generation version from the late 90s. This one looks pretty cool, though. Love that shade of red/burgundy.
I had a 2000 2nd gen Grand Cherokee - the WJ. I had the 4.7 V8 it was awesome off road and in wintery weather. It was also fairly swift for the size and weight. Here in the UK it was equally swift going though my wallet at the gas stations ⛽️. I paid £925.00 for it around 5 years ago. It would be worth around £2,000.00 today as the values seem to have gone up here. Unfortunately it had a fire where the transmission cooler hose blew off and sprayed hot transmission fluid all over the engine bay and burnt off. Unfortunately most of the plastics and rubber was toasted. Outside apart from a small amount of paint peel on the hood you wouldn’t know it had burnt.
@@MrJordanwain Sorry for your loss. I'm also in the UK, would be nice to see more of the older models, such as CJs and early model wagoneers.
I had the second, third, and now the fourth generation, and going to get the fifth . The one I’m driving now is the overland and it is my favorite out of all of them. I also just picked up a Mojave and love it.
@@Brunoinski how do you rate Mohave vs the GC?
A very handsome vehicle and worthy of the name. Kudos to Jeep for setting up a very technical course there!
Great review guys. I went out and bought one! And I do plan to take it off road. But carefully....
Ain’t gonna lie . It was pretty bad a$s seeing this go up them rocks. Loved it though !
Love the Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats on the play list! One of my favorites.
Nice video-really shows off the capabilities!
Wow that is a great video thank you for your great honest review. This is a great looking Grand Cherokee! CFA took too long but nailed it.
I like that new Grand! I don’t care about the 3rd row seat, but the updates to the interior/exterior and electronics looks great! We currently have a 2011 Laredo X and a 2012 Laredo. Both have been fine vehicles for us.
Great review bro
Well done Tommy! Good video.
I can’t wait to see this thing as srt and trackhawk versions
Very impressive!! Even if it’s under control of a manufacturer designed offroad course.
I think this would make for a great comparison with the new Defender considering they're both unibody, rear wheel drive based SUV's with air suspension
Another great video. We would love to see more outtakes and bloopers of Tommy, please... 😏🙏
I've got a 2011 Limited with Selec-Terrain 4x4. It's got 177,500 miles on it. I'm using it for more off roading since its older now and it does awesome out there, even while pulling a trailer with my ATV.
Love your shows.
Will you test the new traverse soon please!!
I rented a grand Cherokee once on a road trip, back in 2017, in AZ, UT and NV. Surprisingly capable, very comfortable but definitely not bullet proof. Drove it over 2000 miles, a lot of that on dirt.
Impressive review! There is very very little out there at that price point that can take on that type of terrain, and haul the family through that type of terrain for a weekend camping trip.
I wanna see a landrover discovery vs this off road vs sense they both are the only good off road 3 row crossover
@@coolsquad7428 You mean a Land Rover vs the 2 Row Grand Cherokee, the Non L version.
@@paulj9821 there is no none L version yet but like I said I wanna see a Landrover discovery vs jeep granr cherokee L
Very impressive. Good review.
Great review. Thanks Tommy. Great shot @14:34 guys.
Great video. Awesome truck.
Awesome video!!
Im super excited to see the 2 row
Need a offroad showdown between Disco 5 and GJ. Maybe a third proper 7-seater too.
Nice review Tommy. Seems like a nice all-rounder... would be interested to see a Disco-5 comparison.
Very interesting video, thanks👍
Looking forward to seeing your Land Rover and this Jeep compared head to head off road !
NA, this compares more with a Disco 5 than the defender.
@@jonathonpalmer9593 it would be the extended Range Rover
@@jonathonpalmer9593 This can't compete with as Defender since it's a 3 Row hauler. We will have to wait for the 2 Row GC. I find it strange that they released the 3 row first.

I'd like to see them all compared as stock ZJ, WJ WK, WK2 WL - would be amazing
Good driving Tommy 🇨🇦
i agree, this is effortless fun🙂
Tommy acting all calm and cool, c'mon that jeep performed great imo , looked like fun! 👍
not his car not his problem. easy
I need it in 2 row trailhawk please!!!!
I just bought one love it
I like this new jeep sooo much. Specially this overland. I'm not a big offroading guy, and i only need some specific features, like cooling seats for driver, 6 seats, i like a panoramic roof, and a couple extra, all that this trim has, from what i saw in everybodys videos. I would like to own one. Now i can't afford, hopefully next year i will.
Great video
Grand Cherokee vs Touareg battle!
great video , nice jeep !
I’m a truck guy but this Grand Cherokee is bad ass!
WK QDII has ELSD front and rear. It’s the closest thing to full lockers.
Amazing car
Just got the 23 overland in hyper blue... looks sharp
Nice video. It's a shame the 'Off Road Group', with the skid plates - 18" wheels, and eLSD - was never more than 'vaporware' for the WL (only 'wishfully' available as a package on the Overland 4x4). Some people did get the eLSD on the Summit or Summit Reserve, but that lacks the Overland's front tow hooks, and has no skid plates and comes only with 20" or 21" wheels. Some owners were able to source the OEM skid plates, and there are aftermarket steel and aluminum skid plates, and aftermarket 18" wheels, but you would have to spring for the top spec Summit trim and convert that to the Overland front fascia to have the tow hooks. Jeep simply has no put 'off roading' as a priority for this model, or any model aside from the Wrangler, apparently (some were able to order the short run of two-row WL Trailhawks with gas engines, now you can only get the 4xe powertrain in that model, when or if they begin any deliveries).
Dude it has a McIntosh sound system I know it’s probably more of a branding deal but I’d be very curious to hear it.
Try using 2 feet when crossing tricky terrain at low speed. One foot on the accelorater and the other on the brake. Bring the revs up and use the brake pedal to control crawl speed.
I used to have a couple of Grand Cherokees in the past but don’t even see them around town much anymore
Somehow Tommy is making more videos than I have time to watch
Good video
I take my Summit off-roading all the time and even though I’ve never gotten stuck, the air suspension doesn’t really have any dampening at the highest setting and it makes for a pretty rough ride.
I understand for 2021 they have improved that by adding a bit more height / dampening.
I want to see a mashup comparison, Grand Cherokee L vs Toureg. Battle of the 3-row air suspension SUVs 😅
looks like Jeep has just ticked off all the boxes with that new model! I have just driven my 2020 jeep cherokee trailhawk from the West coast of Canada to the East coast and I am really inpressed with what jeep is making right now. I would look at this new Jeep Grand Cherokee if I had not just bought a new Jeep.. I would say its going to sell very very well for them
I'll say. I was surprised to see the digital rear view mirror feature in this vehicle; We have such a camera-based rear view mirror in our RAV4, and it has proven useful when a conventional mirror would be blocked by cargo. Nice, along with the front and interior cameras as new features as well.
@@CrumResearch yes I would of liked that also with a way of using it with a camera on my trailer tent as that is all I can see in my rear veiw mirror, that and mt big Black lad sitting in the back :)
This was a legit offroad
That was great.
Cannot wait for this model to be reasonably priced on the 2nd hand market! Look forward to it being the future replacement for my trusty 2007 Jeep Commander (Jeep's only 3 row vehicle prior to the WL-L) with 306k kms of trouble-free running currently. Has Mercedes 3.0 diesel and trans, QD2, and is now our family overlander on 4" lift and 33x12.5" tyres, and other mods like fridge, onboard air system etc. It's a truly nice adventure vehicle for my family to explore where we live in Western Australia and beyond. Hoping the WL-L will be a good candidate as a future replacement with good aftermarket support for mods and strong driving and susp.
Ride height and rake look excellent in Off Road 2. I would lock that bad boy in that mode 24/7
You’d be signing up for a pretty terrible ride, if the previous generation is any indication.
Waiting to see that trail hawk vesion
I was looking at the new defender 2 row and afraid of repair costs and long term ownership. But this makes the most sense in overland trim with the V8 option!
Who makes the best 2 row luxury crossover? On road or off road?
2021 Hyundai Santa Fe for on road?
2022 jeep grand cherekee off road?
Damn I'm digging this thing. I'm not a stelantis guy bit this is awesome. I wish the Explorer Timberline had the 4L and air suspension.
Next time to simulate ‘real world reviews’ you should bring a bag of potato chips and touch all the black plastic buttons. Plus a chip company may sponsor you to do so. Win-Win situation. Hahaha 👍👍👍
TFL is my favorite on UA-cam. I'd love to get together with you guys for a video. That would rock.
Tommy you look good in that Jeep.
Did pretty well for a 3x3
I need the 2 row 😍😍😍😍
Jeep kicked ass
Tommy I'd live to see this jeep take on cliffhanger 2.0
I find it interesting that Jeep is willing to put an actual locking rear differential on the FWD-platform Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk, but they still continue to use a limited-slip differential at the rear of the Grand Cherokee with the off-road options.
Completely agreed, also all Wranglers & Gladiators should come with a locking rear diff. Ridiculous to be riding around with a LSD in a ‘serious’ off roader
@@HamboMTB wrangler and gladiator are both available with front and rear lockers. The grand Cherokee like this has an electric limited slip that can transfer 100% of rear torque to one wheel ensuring that the wheel with traction gets power so not a locker but very effective
Wish they still offered the ESLD in the front diff like they did in the WK with the Quadra Drive II
Does adding a spotter increase the cost?
Impressive!
I haven't seen any mention of any kind of trail/crawl control on these new Grand Cherokees from any reviewer. Does anyone know if there is one available? Would seem like a glaring omission for a new model if it didn't offer it on one of the trims somewhere.
Tommy what's the difference between the the regular summit and the summit reserve??
Bringing Colorado to the east with Nathaniel Ratliffe I see
The touch screen interface looks responsive but how long will that last I wonder
Does all the grand Cherokee 2022 4x4 have the same off road capabilities ? Like can the altitude L rise the suspension on rock climbing
It's not as expensive as I thought it would be, I'm sure dealer markup will cause the price to jump. Very nice rig. Oh, I'm the type of person who would take a $65k rig offroad.
Looking at this versus Lexus gx. Leaning toward GX
That is a mild course at the proving grounds.... I hope they invite you back for some future wrangler.
Jeep Grand Cherokee seems like a pretty good match for the LR Defender. Would love to those two vehicles face off in an off-road comparison test.
two mall crawlers that dont actually have the real off road prowess that a 4runner or LC has.
Hood I have owned 2 Grand Cherokee and now have my second 4Runner, I live in the mountains and am off road weekly showing Mountin property. There is nothing a 4Runner can do that a trail Hawk can’t with the exception of once they both become old third party junk. Then they become on road crap and off road buggies and the 4 runner is much better at that.
no comparison in price. Believe it or not I would easily take the Jeep for reliability LOL
Wow, Overland minimum for the v8? Was it like that for the outgoing model?
I've got a 2014 wk2 4×4 limited with the air ride and the 5.7l V8 Hemi. I love it. Live in New Mexico so plenty of rough off road trails and it does just as well if not better then alot of other jeeps and some modded vehicles. I love when i crawl right up things modified vehicles cant get up. My fancy jeep can nake it but your modded crapper can't. Lol
That camera is thermal imagery not night vision. They are two totally different technologies. Great review nonetheless!👍
Did they add anything to bleed the water out of the air system?
