  • The Honda ADV 150 is an amazing scooter, but there’s a few things Honda could have done better when they designed it. In this video I talk about the things I would have done differently. But it’s still an amazing bike!

    I have about 3,000 miles on my 2022 Honda ADV 150 currently. I don’t believe Honda Corporation ever really figured on anyone taking this scooter on rough trails. Like you said it is not comfortable to stand up on,it kinda throws the balance off 🤔. I found myself awhile back about the key fob battery dyeing as it left me stranded and bike handlebars locked. 😬 I couldn’t push it anywhere this way and called wife to bring my other key fob,which worked by the way. Got home and replaced both batteries for key fobs. My first bike owned without a Key switch.

    About standing up: You don't ride a scooter in the same way you ride a motorcycle. The riding position and dynamics are very different.

    I totally agree with you on how difficult it is to get accessories wired to the battery. I did the same thing with my Zumo as you did except I bundled the extra cable length inside that left glove box where the accessory plug is. I do have a battery tender lead directly connected to the battery under the seat but only use it when the ADV is parked and connected to the battery tender. I suppose I could use it in a pinch to charge a phone or camera if I had to.

    As always, another great video by Gasworks! There is one more little thing that I will add if you don't mind. The front turn signals are very fragile. My 15-year-old son broke the right one by accidentally brushing up against it. Now, I will need to replace it and as you mentioned, I will need to take the bike apart just to replace the dog gone thing. I really think that Honda could have done a better job in designing them. Overall though, I really love this bike!

    I had a similar issue with my '21 PCX. I ordered a seat from Thailand (mpmotorseat) and have been very happy with the change. Lots of styles and options and it was very affordable. Since my glove box came with a USB C port I had to take the nose cover off and splice into the backside of the glove box power in order to wire in a keyed option for my Garmin. It worked fine, but I couldn't agree more that it shouldn't have to be that involved.

    There are a number of reviews on YT about the discomfort experienced with the seat on the ADV 150. I really believe it's related to body type and weight. I'm 5'8" and 155 pounds. I've not had any issues in riding my 2022 ADV 150 with regards to seat comfort. My guess is that some of the heavier riders are the ones that have had issues. I too do not like the key FOB. The more electronic gizmos, the more vulnerable to a multitude of problems, imho. Conveniences have their vulnerabilities and consequences. I'm also constantly forgetting to grab my FOB which I do not keep on my primary key chain. I'd much prefer to just add another key to the ring. Simple mechanical wins in the long run over. I have to disagree on the windscreen. I like its appearance and it functions acceptably for me. Again, I think this may be a function of torso length. No, it's not like having a full windscreen/windshield in front of you, but there is enough wind diversion to make riding at higher speeds comfortable for me and my body type.

    Awesome videos. It would be epic if you could compare the ADV 150 to the Honda Monkey or Grom because I am debating on which one to get as my first bike next year. My main use will be local commuting off freeways and possibly little backroad adventures once in a while. I’m not really interested in driving on highways, but I am 5’6” / 120lbs and a small / lightweight / nimble bike is important for me. Torn because, in the pictures, I like the Honda Grom size and simplicity, but I love the ADV 160 versatility. The ADV does look like it is pretty massive. It would be cool to see how big the ADV is compared to the GROM - it’s kind of hard to gauge by looking at the numbers. I’m not sure if I would prefer manual or automatic, but I understand how to ride both having driven them all over Asia. I would never want a bike over 200cc - too powerful for me.

    I’m thinking of getting this scooter for myself in my return to two wheel transportation. I’m 6 foot 245 pounds and as this is a world scooter, mostly South Asian I’m 8-10 inches and 60-80 pounds heavier then the goal targeted rider for this scooter. I’m expecting to adapt to the bike versus the bike adapting to me. Having said that, your videos are honest and personal so they have been very helpful to me thanks for that! My other 2 choices are Honda ct125 trail and royal enfield Himalayan that would be in a completely different direction of the first 2 choices. Keep the videos going both good and bad observations are helpful.

    Unfortunately key fobs are getting really common these days. I would think the manufacturers would have thought about the battery running out in the fob, but evidently they didn’t. The CT125 has a kickstarter, which is great to see on bikes these days.

    Another bad thing is it’s speed limited to 65 mph in the U.S. And I’ve heard people put in after market parts to make it go faster, but then the belt shreds after a prolonged ride at 75. So, again that’s probably the reason Honda put in the speed limiter. I always like to keep things stock. Once I put an after market clip on exhaust on my Honda and it would fall off when I took it off roads. There always a reason I suppose.

    I absolutely do not like tinted wind shields on any bike not being able see directly in front me like in a trail or even in city when on a really bad pot holed road ,
    I also wonder how hard it would be to make the adv 160 keyed?? Don't seem like it would be very hard

    My 2022 Honda ADV 150 I’ve loved everything about it. At roughly 4,000 miles my fuel pump died which is an expensive repair coming in around 1,000 dollars. My scooter died 2 1/2 weeks ago and being in shop waiting for parts . They have finally arrived but the repair waiting time is about 1 1/2 weeks out. I’ve never had any breakdowns with HONDAS. Very disappointed with supply of parts in USA.

    Is your camera not able to capture 60 fps? 30 fps just doesn't look very smooth.

    • @GasWorksISO
      @GasWorksISO  11 місяців тому

      It will capture 60, and I’ve gone back and forth on if I should switch to that or not. This video was filmed at 24fps which is just fine on anything other than an action cam which requires high shutter speed in order for the stabilization to work properly. The problem with 60fps on action cameras is when the lighting changes the dynamic range suffers a lot. So you’ll see a lot of crushed shadows and blown out highlights causing the footage to look cheap. With my setup I shoot flat profile and limit the ISO to 800 and that gets the best results without having to mess with ND filters every time the light changes.
