With our current technology, how long would it take to reach other planets in the solar system? Closest planet to Earth is the hellish Venus. But, it is not the easiest planet to reach. The easiest planet to go from Earth is the other neighbor planet, Mars. Mercury is closer to Earth compared to the outer Solar System planets. Yet. Mercury is harder to reach than Jupiter. It is due to the close proximity of Mercury with the Sun. Sun's gravity will pull the objects going towards it and since Mercury is too close to the Sun, if a spacecraft tried to go to Mercury, the Sun will actually pull the spacecraft towards it. So, in order to compensate that gravitational pull, the spacecrafts that are trying to visit Mercury should use a lot of fuel to slow down.
