Thank you for this. I've always heard you can't freeze potatoes. After a 4-day weekend of meals for my 3 sisters and their husbands, I was left with about 30 leftover baked potatoes. I sliced them as you showed, labeled and froze them. I am excited to be able to use them later.
I made that mistake the first time I froze uncooked potatoes....I had made too many fries so I tossed them in flour so they would stick together and stored them in a zipped locked bag. They turned a disgusting shade of grey was a soggy goopy mess when defrosted. 🤢🤧
@@Splexsychiick I did the same but cooked them before...and oh my, they lost the water when de-freezing, and the taste was horrible 🙁 Someone told me that the starch passes through some crazy structural changes due to the low temperatures, and that's when it becomes like a no-potato potato xD So I made an effort and mashed it, added milk, butter, some oil...but the consistency was never of a mashed potato.... Any ideas people? I'm getting potatoes that will end up spoiled before eating :/
Thank you Mark for the tip. I am a student and I visit my mom's place once in 3 months. I really love her veg sausage (it's made from beet root, potato and carrot). I can have it only when I come down to visit her. I miss it badly when I go back. I saw your video on potato preservation, but I want to carry veg sausage along with. Is there any way to naturally preserve them? Or even artificially preserve them? So that they don't get spoiled and I can enjoy them anytime I want..??
Living in an apartment I have very little freezer space, next to none, however I do freeze rice and other things whenever I get new space by using up what I have frozen.
I stored some potatoes outside. We had a week of teen, twenties temps for a week. They thawed. First time I tried this. Are they redeemable.? Vegetable area in E. TX is empty. // Your thoughts? // They are in my oven at 170 now for 30 min. now to desiccate. ? // it's bad here.
Thank You for the great video and information. After the potatoes have cooled off over night, Can they be peeled and shredded for hash browns? Again Thank You.
approximately how long do you boil the potatoes? I know you said till the knife goes in easily. Thanks for the video. Do they take long to thaw...the pkgs?
Boiling Potatoes : If U have small-medium size potatoes, set timer to 13 min. Then check with a knife. If potatoes are large, set timer 17 min, then check with knife. Take mental notes on each batch so that U can come up with your own timing based on your own experience.
Except for casseroles and soup, I don't care for freezer taters. I use potatoes to thicken soups, stews, and "The Potato " is my favorite food!! If I could choose only one food for the rest of my life!! I 🥰😁 them they're healthy too.
Thanks, this is great! I like this method way better than peeling and blanching them. My son is a hash brown fiend and I'd much rather him have homemade ones than the frozen little pieces they sell in the grocery store.
The potatoes have the same texture as before freezing? I have frozen foods that contain potatoes and the texture is like mush and taste watery. What am I doing wrong?
+Mark Anthony I bought a 20lb bag for less than $3 on sale. I boiled w/skins, laid on a towel til cooled, cut them up and put in sandwich bags (I'm a single person) and then several into a gallon bag. The first time I thawed any out, they were like mush and had a lot of water! What did I do wrong? Now I put them in an uncovered dish in the microwave, but can't use any for potato salad, which was part of my plan.
you might have over cooked them. they might not have been cooled enough either. leave them in the fridge overnight to cool and kinda dry out a bit. im wondering if putting a couple of paper towels in the bag might be a good idea too. it might absorb the water when they defrost.
Nancy Thank you! I might have cooked them a bit too long. I'm not giving up. Next time, I won't do nearly an entire 20#bag. :) I'll just do a few lbs. to experiment.
Mine turned out good. I boiled the whole potatoes for only 10 minutes. I completely cooled them off in my garage ( winter ) & then I grated them & flash froze them in a cookie sheet & then put in small plastic bags & then put them in the freezer. The next day they made delicious hashbrowns.
Am looking to do this today, can they be used to put in the oven? Would I put them in from frozen and mix half way when the heat has loosened them or would I defrost first? And if I boiled a whole jacket potato, froze it whole when cooled, could I put this in the oven for a roasted jacket potato? Again, could I put it straight in from frozen or would I defrost first?? Thank you!!
I did that method and froze the whole potato, so I could have it with chicken and a vegetable. But the potatoes were dry. Now I just cut them up raw into cubes. so we can put them with the other meals but they turn brown. Is there some way to not fully cook them, so they don't turn brown and can still cut them the way you want for whatever meal you're having like potatoes and onions eggs or divide them up into different bags for stew or soup's? Thanks!
Cut them up Blanch them(boil for 4 minutes) put in ice water, to which lemon juice has been added, till cool, then let dry . then put in freezer bags, remove all air and freeze flat.
I heard leaving the skins on potatoes (white) is bad, because once the potatoes are harvested they are sprayed with pesticide then shipped. For this reason I always wash the potatoes then peel the brown skin off and hopefully not much of the pesticide has absorbed into the potatoes. Sweet potatoes which I don't care to eat much of, do not go thru this process, therefore they are better for you. Finding organic white potatoes or baking potatoes in the store is actually pretty hard.

@@le4470 I don’t have a garden 🪴, some of us are not as fortunate but fortunately I did put it in a separate bag and out for the homeless guys on our street
As far as I know, potatoes change their texture - due to starch - in freezer, whether raw or cooked. Canning them is "better" alternative -as long as you do not expect it to be as fresh, but passable.
That is so much easier and quicker than so many others on here! Thank you so very much for sharing you knowledge.
I love this tip. I never seem to have enough time for cooking so this will help me so much. Thank you for sharing.
Great video just got a huge bag and always throw them away . Chopped in Mandela
I will now freeze them . Thanks

Excellent idea!!! I'm doing the Dr. McDougall plan and we eat tons of potatoes. Thanks so much..
Thank you a thousand Mark Anthony for the potato freezing lesson . Im very grateful to you.
How long do they last in the freezer?

How do you get the oxygen out of the bag without expelling any of the other atmospheric gases?
Quite the underrated comment here 👆🏻 😂
Too funny 😅
Use an oxygen adsorber........but I get your point. I just thought I would be cheeky
How do you defrost a baked potato after you have frozen it? Do you have any videos on that with recipes?
Can I freeze sweet potatoes as well ...thank you for the share loving the info :)
Mark Anthony can your freeze sweet potatoes?
I wash sweet potatoes, peel them and freeze them cut in cubes. Cook them straight from the freezer. Taste just as good

Can you show us how to make easy french fries ready for the freezer & how to cook ( fry ) them?

Sassy Frassy when you lay them out the room has to be cool so they can tighten up. He said overnight.

That comment section is the place where questions are left unanswered. Forever...
Can you freeze then whole without cutting them up
Roughly what is the cooking time for boiling whole potatoes? I've never boiled then whole.
If they're small 10-13 min; If they're large 15-17 min. Start checking with a knife from the minimum timing.
Can I make french fries out of these to deep fry after they're frozen?
is this the way you would also do sweet potatos?
Good tips; thank you! 🕊🌱👏
Great idea to squeeze the air out of the bags. But may I ask if the potatoes are kind of mealy?
Can use a straw to suck out even more air.
Yeah, but are they mealy?
Thank you, God bless you sir, I don't peel them either :)
would you do steak fries, reg French fries, and diced potatoes for O'Brien style potatoes the same way....just cut them for each style?
How long are you boiling? How soft should they be?
He said so when you put a knife through them it goes in easily.
I don’t like skins on my potatoes all the time can I peel them after they are boiled?
And how long can I keep them in the freezer 🤔
Can I vacuum seal them ?
This might be a silly question but can you freeze the potato whole or do you advise against it?
Very good idea thank you 🙏 👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️

Mine always thaw out and have a consitency of a sponge.
Exactly like mine so now I cook a stew and only cook and add the potatoes when needed
Thank you. I didn't know this was possible! If I wanted to rewarm them by boiling would that be okay?
Use a safe bag, no bpa or anything.
What causes a frozen potato slice to turn black/brown?

Wow, I learnt something
Grazie!
if cut bigger then can store ?
The peels have Monsanto poison from killing weeds that goes into the roots and the plants take it up.
Thank you
👍
I love you spice display
Picked those up at IKEA
Use a straw to remove air from bag before sealing.😊
What about peeling first?
Seriously ' you can make potato salad with frozen potato?
No
song?
Were is your freezer organization video? I could really use it , we bought an 8 ft freezer, picked up our half a cow and a pig at the butcher HELP!!!
Please help. I tried this and when my potatoes defrosted they were water loved. All soggy. Had to throw them away. What a waste 😱
Thats a shame and what a waste of food and money. I would watch more videos on freezing potatoes. I think I saw one where the lady did not boil them.
Did you put them in a compost pile??
