Love this car. Best Exterior of any sports sedan ever made. If i didn’t buy my 1999 C5 FRC this past spring i would’ve went for this in 5 years when I retire.
This looks just as muscly as a Camaro, is as luxurious as an Audi S5, shaped closely to a Porsche Panamera and will drive probably just as many miles as a Toyota Camry. It's was hard for me to imagine adding it to the garage because I have a Corvette. But after driving all day in the vette while thinking about this car, it really is the quieter, comfier ride with a ride height for the real world and the reliability to put the pretty expensive price tag in a safer financial category. You can get a used 911 for the same price, a used Audi S5/6/7/8 for the same price and even the LC500 is a little bit more. But after 10 years, this IS500 would give you just as many smiles without many trips to the mechanic. And for me it gives me the excuse to gut the mediocre interior of my Corvette and throw a half cage in there for a loud windy gas smelling ride on the weekend.
The IS is amazing, but it doesn't beat a Vette, bro. The Vette is on a whole new level. Me thinks you probably just need to drive it a little more. That said, I like four doors. So the IS is definitely *MY* #1 choice.
With my RCF, I always got the best 0-60 time without brake torquing it. That actually slows it down due to the transmission/software programming. Thanks to the unintended acceleration, Toyota and Lexus made changes to create errors when the gas and brake are pressed at the same time for people that have unsecured floor mats.

I parked my IS500 and drove my GX460 for about a week. It felt so great getting into the 500! Really love my choice in vehicles. One day I’ll add two Porsches to the garage.
That "Yamaha rear damper" is actually not part of the normal suspension system, but it is a laterally-mounted chassis damper to reduce vibrations. A lot of Lexus models have this at the rear, but for some reason only the IS 500 gets it in the IS lineup.
That 500 is hard man! Yes some things are dated but if you're a car guy, it's too many great things that cancel out how antiquated you believe the car is. Give me this one in the video right here! I like the blue on red color. Get some red brake calipers and call it a day.
I love this car interior. Its an interior of a car. The other companies ultra futuristic drama looks as if you are driving Enterprise starship from Start trek are ridiculous. Maybe I am getting old and old fashion, truly I am, how ever I dont think car interior will move further than we are today in general. For all brands. No more tricks, screens, materials are available to be innovative.
Sofyan calling the CD player a cassette player and always complaining about Mazda's not having a touchscreen has confirmed my assumptions about his tech savviness.
@@johnholst thank you. I love my BMW. I use to love jap cars back in the day. I owned quite a few, but I’m never going back to jap. I love a BMW. It’s very nice and fast to.
The Japanese version of this car actually has power folding mirrors which was an odd choice to leave out for the NA market. So I guess I’ll have to wait for a crashed Japanese one for parts or order the kit from a Japanese dealer.
The exterior of this IS still looks so sexy 👏👏 looks amazing, interior while super dated, it’s still a high quality interior that Lexus is known for, and wow that 5.0L V8 is a gem. Only N/A V8 that is left from what I know, so I’m glad Lexus still offers this V8 because it is glorious.
As for sport cars (or any non-super cars), The only thing and the BEST thing that Lexus has is their BEAUTIFUL paint!!! I dream of their paint/color to be on my Evo 😂 which 500hp w full time AWD and 0-60 for just over 3s... And it was only costed 36k brand new 😝.
Can't go wrong buying one of these! It's so 2060! Since Toyota from 30 years ago are on the road as much as any new car. There are probably more 30 year old Toyotas driving around than there are new KIA Telluride on the road.
@@doudymac in roughly 30 years from now it will be 2060 and trust me, these will still be driving around on the road. I just saw a 1989 Lexus ES out on the highway so I expect that a current model toyota will still be on roads 30 years from now.
That’s the thing about Lexus. They are super conservative with their technology and updating compared to the German rivals. BMW, Mercedes, ect, always jumps on the newest state of the art technology and as a result they have more issues. Lexus knows what works. There is a reason why people own a Lexus and the German brands, they lease it.
Me being a huge Kansas Jayhawk fan, I absolutely love the spec of this car! I would love it regardless. That blue color is gorgeous and the bright red interior makes it look that much better! Despite it being on the older side, I wouldn’t choose anything else over it. With it being a Lexus (my favorite brand), and having that V8, I’d choose this over all of its rivals in a heartbeat. Also another odd thing, I have a 2015 RC350 AWD and for some reason it’s only getting 17 MPG and 300 miles of range. I only do city driving and I don’t drive it super hard all the time and it’s still only getting in the 17’s in the city. I’ve even been driving it in normal mode instead of Sport+ mode to see if that’d make a difference and sadly it hasn’t. I don’t really care all that much because it’s not the car for good MPG obviously but I just can’t believe that a car with just a V6 could be getting the same gas mileage as a car with a big ass V8 under the hood and the same range on top of that. My RC also has the same size 17.5 gas tank as well. I know it’s heavy because of the AWD but if it gets the same MPG as a V8 IS500, that’s just annoying so idk why it’s like that. Very odd. Great video!
The AWD in your RC350 is only a 6speed transmission and weighs the same as the IS500. The IS500 has an 8speed transmission, so the extra gears allows it to run at a lower RPM than the AWD. (The engine isn't working as hard.) That's why the IS500 is a bit more efficient than the AWD. I had a 2016 IS350 FSport RWD and it had the 8speed transmission, weighed about 200lbs less than the IS500, and it posted a better 2 to 3 mpg's over the V8.
This color combo was my first choice but I couldn’t get it. I do have a red interior in Cloudburst Grey paint that is on the train now and arriving to me next week. Can’t wait!
@@pmiahky As long as you remember this is a fast GT car and not necessarily a sports car, you’re gonna LOVE it! My suggestion, get a TOM’s or aFe sport air filter and swap out those God awful Bridgestones for something like the Michelin PS4S tires. I waited until 7K miles and that was 6,999 miles too long on those things. (They do not get off the line well, but the PS4S are otherworldly.) Can’t wait to see your car online somewhere! ENJOY!
@@blu_is500Thanks for the input! So stoked. I’ll probably post pics on the IS500 FB page. Yeah I don’t care about straight line speed nor whether it is track capable/worthy. Around Knoxville the road gets really curvy with steep grades in sections. Cheers!
Cool vid, I thoroughly enjoy my IS500 and wouldn't choose anything else in the class even though most are quicker. The IS500 just has tons more character, should be more reliable, and imo looks better. Just a few things, it's a 2UR-GSE not the FSE and the cars do have remote start on the fob (I've used it a few times on mine).
@ 26:18 - For those that said Genesis wouldn't be successful, here's your proof. They essentially took over the coveted spot that the Infiniti G35/G37 used to have, and also surpassed Acura and Lexus in the segment. Surprised it even bested the C class. So for those that think people only care about a badge and won't care about specs, value, and driving dynamics, think again! And btw, Genesis has done less than half the marketing of the other players, so let that sink in for a minute! Infiniti is for sure regretting every single action they've taken since 2013 to soften the brand. Hiring Johan de Nysschen became their Achilles heel, and ultimately their executor.
Yeah the interior and chassis are pretty dated. Yeah she's quite a heavy one as well, but there's something about the roar of the v8 every time it's started that just makes it right
LOVED my 2014 IS350 F-Sport RWD. Every reviewer likes to bash the older infotainment. it wasn't bad once you got used to it. The only thing that killed it for me was on my particular vehicle it was laggy. really the only thing i didnt like about the car was it was missing a sunglasses holder!

I highly recommend turning the fake sound off. There's a dial to the left of the steering wheel that allows you to do that. When you said you had it off in the video, it was still turned on. I drive mine with it off all the time, so I will know. :)
My wife has a 2023 300AWD F-Sport (Canadian model), with the upgraded Lexus exhaust. She loves it, after owning a SH-AWD TLX and a BMW 528 with x-drive. I’m a slow poke with my 2022 Toyota 4Runner TRD Off Road, but enjoy driving her car. I wish the V8 came in AWD, as we would’ve stretched to buy it.
Positives-engine, reliability, build quality, price. Negatives-transmission, some dated tech. Other criticisms of this car also apply to the M2 for example-weight, steering feel, etc. At the end of the day it is a nice car to drive, not a car for number/tech whores.
I much prefer the steering in the Lexus - it doesn't feel overboosted or twitchy and has some semblance of feel. I find the M2 tempting, but the atrocious fake engine sound and obsession with huge screens are major turn-offs for me. Plus, the IS 500 is undoubtedly the better daily driver.
@@globalpropertyinvestment Hmm no, no it doesn’t lol. It looks pretty basic. The IS has a better profile and stance. The rear fenders naturally give it a wide body. I don’t know anyone that actually turns their head when a Giulia drives by.
We can agree to disagree then lmao. Everyone I know turns their head when a Quad roars past, especially one dressed in Montreal Green with the exposed carbon fiber roof. The Lexus by comparison is a boring Japanese executive box.@@JJS432
No mention of the G70 as a competitor? No electric trunk, no power folding mirrors, cargo crushing trunk hinges?! Does it have remote start? Love the shade of red in the interior. That was a pleasant surprise when you opened the door. The blue and red work well together for me. Blue with white isn’t contrast? LFA style gauge cluster looks good. Bezel on infotainment looks very 2013. No ambient lights in a luxury vehicle is a miss for me. If the rear seat isn’t comfortable at your height…. No rear climate control or heated seats? I see that you did mention the G70 at the end when you discussed sales numbers 😁
Thank you Sofyan for also mentioning the gas tank capacity and total range from F to E. 300 miles is Pathetic! I hate that my RX F-Sport only has range of ~320 miles per tank, Toyota/Lexus need to start putting bigger gas tanks in their offerings. Meanwhile there are Hondas and other vehicles getting 400+ miles of range 😅🤦♂️
I have that exact color combo and love it 💙❤. I have nothing against the other cars in the category but i had to have that 2UR-GSE. As fas as the tech is concerned, it doesn't bother me. You learn to live with it and listen to that V8 😂 I have no plans to ever sell it. 🎉
12:45 I actually prefer that style cruise control stalk over buttons on the steering wheel. Many Asian car companies used the same stalk for their cruise control (old Hyundai and Kia for example). Like the turn signal stalk, it’s universal and you know how to use it without looking at it. Push the button the end to turn cruise on or off; push down to set the speed or to slow down; push up to speed up or resume; pull towards you to cancel. Unlike steering wheel buttons which are not universal and placed in different locations on different cars.
If you need a daily driver (i.e. daily, long commute), this car will destroy your wallet with its gas bill... ...stunning car, though. Absolutely love it
If you would rather have an EV over a V8 from one of the greatest lineages in the history of V8 engines, or if you complain about things like "the dated infotainment" then you may need to just go ahead and check out of this whole car culture thing. IS500 is one of the last true enthusiast cars built these days, by any manufacturer. The fact that it's a Toyota and will probably run forever with regular oil changes and utilitizes only proven, vetted engineering/technology means this is a fine candidate for "the last 'real' car you will want to buy" before we descend collectively into the 5 ton electric self driving subscription only SUV apocalypse.
I love my 23 IS500. It is comfortable and quiet in Eco mode and a noisy beast in Sport+. Mine is silver with white interior. I'm averaging 19.5mpg. Not bad for 472HP. It will be reliable as well. There is no power folding mirrors. Lexus only brings 1000 of these to the US for each of the model years.
I test drove every car up to 100k before I bought my IS500. This car had the most personality and best looks. It’s lacking in some areas Forsure but the good makes up for the bad.
@@timw2083 I test drove one and wasn’t impressed. It’s fast but had no personality. If I wanted fast with no personality I’d go buy electric. The only other cars I considered was the ct4v blackwing and rs3. But the new rs3 is ugly and blackwing didn’t have the options I wanted.
The key fob auto start is tricky because on mine it worked when I first got it, but after I switched out the incandescent rear bulbs for LEDs for some reason it wasn’t able to do it anymore. I guess it has something to do with the relay?
It's a small compact performance car, well built & everlasting if looked after. Keeps saying old? Anything bigger wouldn't be as nimble. I have an IS F in Vermillion Red which is to be chipped & has a modified exhaust system.
The blue with the red interior is too much contrast in my opinion also all though I would love the red interior with a more appropriate exterior color! 😊
I remember borrowing an AMG 500E from MB R&D back in '92. Never drove a sedan that fast before. Solid as a panzer tank. But I'm now asking myself, why do you need that much power? The speed limit is 65 mph.
Hey, I just finished playing my original Nintendo 64 and it still works and is very cool. Kinda like the interior and concept of this vehicle. It just needs to be 50k like a v8 Mustang.
Nice car but i paid about the same for my CT4 BW and got more. If i didnt want a manual, the IS500 is almost a contender. Lexus also claims better reliability and having a spare tire is nice. Cadillac beats this everywhere else. Funny how the BW wasnt even mentioned as a competitor.
It’s not as mean sounding because unlike the LC the IS 500 and RCF have more resonators and mufflers on the exhaust . The LC only has the two rear mufflers and a high flow CAT and almost straight pipe the entire mid pipe . Otherwise they sound exactly the same when you mode any of the three with aftermarket exhaust and midpipe . Meisterschaft being the one I’d highly recommend for any of the three .
For this reason, I'm considering a midpipe for mine. Even a bone stock LC 500 sounds great, and I would be happy if I could emulate that sound with my IS 500.
my 2020 IS does have the 3 X lock button engine start up feature… lexus can however disable it through wifi so as soon as your lexus enform subscription is over they remove the feature wirelessly

Lmao.
Panamera? Get your eyes checked.
@@MercOne No no I also see what he's talking about, they're both cars lol
The IS is amazing, but it doesn't beat a Vette, bro.
The Vette is on a whole new level. Me thinks you probably just need to drive it a little more.
That said, I like four doors. So the IS is definitely *MY* #1 choice.
Correction: The engine is 2UR-GSE not FSE
The key fob does have remote start
With my RCF, I always got the best 0-60 time without brake torquing it. That actually slows it down due to the transmission/software programming. Thanks to the unintended acceleration, Toyota and Lexus made changes to create errors when the gas and brake are pressed at the same time for people that have unsecured floor mats.
Like the hard buttons on panel for temperature instead of touch screen
Hey, love your reviews and been an subscriber for YEARS you're my go to for car reviews. Just a small suggestion I think if you did more car versus car videos that will be great and would also push you to over 1million subs people love those and how detailed you are combined would be amazing thanks hope you take this into consideration
A lot of Lexus models have this at the rear, but for some reason only the IS 500 gets it in the IS lineup.
that color combo with the wheels is beautiful, thats the spec i'd go with
Superman special. Woof. That red interior is an eyesore.
Hot take alert.
That 500 is hard man! Yes some things are dated but if you're a car guy, it's too many great things that cancel out how antiquated you believe the car is. Give me this one in the video right here! I like the blue on red color. Get some red brake calipers and call it a day.
I'm going back and forth on the blue vs. red calipers. 😀
I LOVE this car! I hope to own one one day. Thanks for the review.
You genuinely deserve millions of subscribers!!
The red is actually subtle enough to match the blue exterior paint.
Ancient or not, I'd take this over the 340i, C43 or S4 any day of the week! That engine makes this special!
Cool , I’ll take all the above what you mentioned over this IS any day of the week.. in fact I did lol I have a 23 M40i
@@Mr.Lambert777 To each his own. It's not like any of those cars are bad. They simply aren't as unique or visceral as the IS500.

The interior has fake leather and fake stitching. Nothing high quality about that
There is that other 5 litre...the Mustang GT. Different genre, though. Both sound terrific!

2060 ???
@@doudymac in roughly 30 years from now it will be 2060 and trust me, these will still be driving around on the road. I just saw a 1989 Lexus ES out on the highway so I expect that a current model toyota will still be on roads 30 years from now.
@@jasonknowledge8824 Oh ok. Got ya. Let's just hope this push to make everything EV doesn't go into effect. 👍
That part. 👏
How GOOD does SHE look at 4:15 at that angle 😍 wow, she's a LOOKER!
@@blu_is500 that’s what I was kinda thinking but it still surprised me
This color combo was my first choice but I couldn’t get it. I do have a red interior in Cloudburst Grey paint that is on the train now and arriving to me next week. Can’t wait!
@@pmiahky As long as you remember this is a fast GT car and not necessarily a sports car, you’re gonna LOVE it! It’s quite capable, but not a track weapon and that’s okay in my book, because I never intend to track mine. It is an awesome Canyon Carver and Mountain Sweeper though!
Was thinking about that Potenza swap too for Michelins. I’m in Nashville but will really look forward to taking it on I-40 to Asheville, NC.
As well as the remote start and lock / unlock via smartphone
Also Lexus is on the verge of being executed. After all they’re just as subpar to the competition as Infiniti
Yeah the interior and chassis are pretty dated. Yeah she's quite a heavy one as well, but there's something about the roar of the v8 every time it's started that just makes it right
Sofyan, your slowmo tight rope walk intro always makes me chuckle. (no shade)

I live in Ontario and doing just fine with my IS500 in "normal" snow. Just need good snow tires.
2024 came out and arrived at some dealers and it's still has the same tech
Positives-engine, reliability, build quality, price.
Negatives-transmission, some dated tech.
Other criticisms of this car also apply to the M2 for example-weight, steering feel, etc. At the end of the day it is a nice car to drive, not a car for number/tech whores.
If you want a nice driving car get something cheaper. There are plenty of nice driving cars
@@ARentz07 why not an m340i or scat pack?
Scat Pack too big, see similar complaints as M2 when it comes to the M340i.

Hands down the best looking sports sedan on the market right now.
Disagree with that. The Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio is far better looking.

Didn't you get 4.3 to 60 in the last IS500 before this.
You learn to live with it and listen to that V8 😂
I have no plans to ever sell it. 🎉
You have CarPlay, AndroidAuto, and a comprehensive Safety Suite... The IS500 has decent enough tech in my opinion. 🙂
I don't like blue like at all, but in person this color SCREAMS sexy 😅. Glad I got it on my 24 NX

@@SkywalkerOGK Depends on what you want. I love my IS500 despite what all the F elitists say. It checks the boxes.
The fact that it's a Toyota and will probably run forever with regular oil changes and utilitizes only proven, vetted engineering/technology means this is a fine candidate for "the last 'real' car you will want to buy" before we descend collectively into the 5 ton electric self driving subscription only SUV apocalypse.
jeez the retail value for this used is insane.
Im a bmw fan boy i would buy a m340i over this but everytime i think about reliability im like nah i rather the is500
I test drove every car up to 100k before I bought my IS500. This car had the most personality and best looks. It’s lacking in some areas Forsure but the good makes up for the bad.
I'm glad the M340 exists but didn't consider one. The B58 seems to be an amazing engine. I bought the IS500 and never thought twice about it.

I wonder if Yamaha had any involvement with the exhaust. OR if they'll offer one tuned by them in the future.

I remember borrowing an AMG 500E from MB R&D back in '92. Never drove a sedan that fast before. Solid as a panzer tank. But I'm now asking myself, why do you need that much power? The speed limit is 65 mph.
To ring it whenever you can 😉
I have a 992 and it is fast enough. My brother has a Tesla Plaid and it is insane. The acceleration gets old after a while according to him.
Hey, I just finished playing my original Nintendo 64 and it still works and is very cool. Kinda like the interior and concept of this vehicle. It just needs to be 50k like a v8 Mustang.
The current IS is a good looking car, I've seen lots of IS350 on the road.
Portland, JAMAICA in the Building!!!
This refreshed exterior still looks great😀
It’s not as mean sounding because unlike the LC the IS 500 and RCF have more resonators and mufflers on the exhaust .
Now that's a nice color blue.
