Not really. The 500 series Lexus are handbuilt, and have tons of issues with fit and finish. Wind noise, transmission failure, just to name a few. Being a Lexus, these are not cheap to fix. That said, the BMW is hardly going to be more reliable, so take your pick. Both will need heavy maintenance, esp. if you tend to drive hard.

I would do Burn outs and Donuts on this car all day long. What a amazing car, Last of the V8's. Next Generation would never know what an amazing V8's were.
@@JacesOwnWorldlol How so? You're getting a very similar package to the M340i for basically the same price. It also competes well with the Audi S4 and is priced accordingly.
I'm so glad Lexus still makes a RWD V8 Sedan. They are a dying breed in today's car market. The M340i is a great value proposition for those not wanting to spend the money on a full M car. Both cars are great for their market segment.
I went from an ‘08 Acura TL Type S (which I owned for 11 years) right into a ‘23 IS500 (which I’ve owned for a year so far) and tbh it doesn’t feel *that* old to me. I tend to keep my cars 8+ years so the maintenance for the M340i would just be painful over the long term. And Idk that the IS350 feels the same to drive as the 500 especially in the upper ranges, but I found that once you really wake it up, it’s a lot more responsive as long as the RPM stays above 4k. What a lot of people don’t seem to realize is that everything about the IS500 is adaptive and situational since it’s not a full blown sports sedan like the M3 or an ISF and what I mean is for example: 3 things happen at the same time when the speedometer breaks past 40 mph no matter what mode you’re in: 1) The steering wheel feels heavier. (Feels much heavier in Sport S+) 2) the suspension firms up 3) the transmission feels a little more responsive (not by much but still noticeable). The faster you go the more the car firms up and the more it tries to keep itself awake before going back to being low key and “lazy”. When you really push down the kick down pedal from a dig, it feels like it goes “Oh. Oh? it’s time to race?? Ok!” but I think it’s because the CPU is set up for street driving by default, and it takes it a minute for it to feel more responsive for the rest of the driving session after you’ve “primed” it up as long you don’t turn the car off. Hope this helps.
I thought all of the same things when I got my IS.... Just traded my 65K mile IS350 FS for a Audi S4.. At 65K miles it needed a new differential, driver seatbelt assembly, and of all things it developed a wiring issues that threw every code and killed the throttle pedal of the car leaving me a sitting duck in traffic. Never had any issues like that with my Previous Audis. The dealer could not solve the issue, no one wanted to work on it; And they did not want to cover anything under the still active warranty. I really liked my IS, it felt old school and had a very underrated chassis. But after driving my S4 for a month, it really was a car stuck in 2006 besides the ascetics. A regular current gen regular A4 would wipe the floor with a 350 performance wise; I remember when the 3rd gen IS came out, that was reversed; the IS was almost as fast as the then B8 S4 stock. But they never updated the powertrain.
@@rforracing True, but you can catch people sleeping. Also, the M340i doesn't look all that different from a 330i with the M Sport and Shadowline packages.
@@rforracingthe thing is that the 350 is a sexy car. The 500 just takes it a notch higher with the hood bulge and quad exhaust. I think the new m3 looks great but every other model looks horrible and bland. If they had a v8 in the m3 instead of a v6 popcorn machine/lawn mower I’d get that.
The same body but it’s easily recognizable by the quad exhaust. I live in Miami, and I’ve seen the IS500 only a handful of times. There are tons of IS 300s here though. Even IS350 is not that common. So, the IS500 is a very rare bird indeed.
Great video!! I bought a new 2024 M340i back in march, i absolutely love it. I added Valvetronics designs exhaust and its a 10/10 pairing. Now just waiting for my factory warranty to expire in a few years so I can load a tune.
Give me the is500….in my opinion this version of the IS has to be one of the best looking sedans on the market. The interior of Lexus feel superior in quality to me, even if it lacks the tech (the only tech I care about are heated and cooled seats, back up camera and apple CarPlay, maybe automatic wipers) the rest feels gimmicky. The is500 has a much better sounding exhaust note and it’s no slouch performance wise…. I guess if you 0:15 only have the means for one car I see why you’d want the m340i. Essentially it has more to offer over a wide range of options. But if I just want a fun sedan and I can own a legit sports car on the side… give me the is500 everyday of the week.
Idc if the beemer is quicker I will always go is500 over the m340i. 1. I buy cars and keep them for awhile, 2. Lexus reliability, 3. 4.2-4.3 sec 0-60 is plenty quick for me. 4. It’s such a beautiful looking car. The newer 340i to me doesn’t look the greatest. And 5. It’s a Lexus! You will not have any issues with that.
I might consider leasing the BMW, but I would PURCHASE the Lexus IS500 every time. That high revving, naturally aspirated 5.0L V8 is epic. This Lexus will become a classic, after driving it for over 2 decades. The Beemer will be an oversized paper weight by then.
your video has so much depth love the genuine review, actually like a breathe of fresh air, so tired of the other basic comparison videos being about speed and not other features... keep it up bro!!
I have been with my is500 for close to a year and haven’t regretted it. Also, there are far less Is500’s out there than 340i’s. It’s a great car but you see them daily while I never see an is500 just a bunch of is300’s.
I had this exact dilemma, after driving both there was a clear winner in my book. I'm a taller dude and the IS500 was too small for me so I opted for a 2016 Lexus GSF. Couldn't be happier with my choice. The BMW had a very numb driving feel while the V8 Lexus was filled with emotion.
@@pyramo3170 fair enough each to their own. If we were talking about the failed n54/55 engines of the past (although not really a failure in the sense of tuning potential but more so in reliability) I’d choose this Lexus all day everyday. However the b58 engine is truly a marvel.
BMW doesn't "down play" the power figures, it's about how car is setup through out the power and torque band. BMW has always been tuned to give you the quickest and the best results. I believe this explains why their engines either blow or require a lot of maintenance.
I agree with the 100% BMW used to be the ultimate driving machine, now they are all about being the ultimate Bragging machine. They are designed to give you bragging rights and that's about it. Their actual driving and owning experience is not what it used to be.
I’ve had a 340i and X3 M40i starting in 2019 and from a guy that’s owned three Jags, Fords Nissan. They are far and away a great car to both own and drive.
I was looking at the IS and LC 500 in 2022 super hard. At the time I owned a 22 ES 350, and while it was very comfortable and looked great, it was uninspiring to drive. I found the IS and LC to be similar with the engine and transmission. While they sounded great, it was a huge noise investment with little return on actual performance. The LC is extremely unique and if it had the performance to match, I could have overlooked the monotone interior and outdated tech. I ended up with a BMW M850. After owning that for 6 months, the ES days were numbered. Traded that in on a 23 M340 after specing and building it with the m performance exhaust. I don't think I've even given Lexus another thought since. It's not that I dislike Lexus, but the vehicles are truly only sudo luxury or entry level and they have been riding the reliable reputation way too long. LIfe's too short to own a boring car.
That's the feeling I got from the IS 500; a bit boring. Sure it's fast, but the BMW is just as fast (or faster) and keeps you engaged in the drive while also being pretty comfortable. BMW are masters of their art.
Life is short to have your BMW in the shop constiently with subpar quality. Been down the road with both and the Lexus gives us everything we need. If you’re ACTUALLY able to buy one of these cars I respect your opinions BUT if you’re a number/commercial regurgitator go for it😅 and buy that service, resale headache. I would ONLY buy a bmw if it’s used, cheap and has an extended warranty! It’s not worth it @ $60k at ALL.
@@thomasharris5151 Let's be for real here, financial ability affects the ranking of what people look for in a car. The less capable tend to look for reliability while those with more available funds can go for the performance cars that do come with some maintenance concerns.

Looks wise, the Lexus wins easily. The AWD of the BMW makes it practical for those who live in snowy climates, but the RWD and N/A V8 of the IS500 makes it worth the con of no AWD. As well as that sweet Lexus reliability.
I used to be a Lexus Fanboy too and owned a 3IS. I was so excited to hear a “new” IS was coming out so I could upgrade… then when it hit the market I loved the exterior but then I saw the interior and realized it was the same old ass car from 2014. I was distraught. Then I read everywhere that BMW reliability had come up tremendously. That they had taken notes during their partnership with Toyota to build the Supra and implemented Toyota style processes during manufacturing leading to them now being on too with reliability. Even outperforming Lexus this past year. So I bought a 3 series and couldn’t be happier. I do wish the IS was fully updated throughout and not just the exterior bc man that car is sexy. It really makes a statement on the road.
Hit the well of greatness for my first watch of you❤ Superb presentation style. Odd man out - 500 for me. I give up tech and some performance. But doesn't fail tingling the soul.
I recently purchase The Lexus IS500 and I love LOVE IT. I think the only Car Better is the Cadillac Blackwing. I tested a lot of cars and I mean a lot. I am so glad I bought it. I plan to keep it for 3 to 4 years and Sell it to get the Cadillac Blackwing. Thank you for the Great video
Why? I could see if you wanted to leave room for tuning. On the other hand, the Lexus V8 will become more special as the years go by. No bad choice here.
I’m making over 500 hp on my IS500. I personally think the new BMW’s sound like crap. Mix of a popcorn machine and lawn mower. The performance is undeniable. But in reality who’s really tracking their car…. barely anyone. Another thing to consider is rarity, everyone has a bmw nowadays. The IS500 is rare. It’s a head turner. Also everyone can hate on the interior but the thing is that the fit and finish is perfection. And I personally love all the buttons instead of some big ass screen. If bmw still made their v8 m3’s I probably would’ve picked that over my 500 but I just can’t deal with their v6’s. They sound awful.
I give credit where it’s due, and this review deserves major credit. The quality and content of this video is awesome! Can’t wait to see you hit your first 100k subscribers, then 1,000,000+.
Awesome content! BMW B58 FTW! I6 power that's stupid smooth, refined and fuel efficient. Reliable and plenty of parts. M340i can be had for under 73k CAD. IS500s are $85k CAD....
The Lexus IS500 needs AWD, updated infotainment system, stiffer steering, and a weight cut. If Lexus does this, the IS500 will be on top of the competition. If Lexus doesn’t want to make these changes across the board, at least make them available as a higher trim or something. Now if they made a version with a Turbo Charger or even a Supercharger and gave it 700+ HP with or without hybrid assistance, it would be KING.
@@bigjdm5460 I think you missed my point. Firstly, the Lexus is going to be undoubtedly more reliable. And they’re more than capable of implementing those 4 things I listed. But aside from that, my point was Lexus needed to implement those things to compete with the M cars from BMW (in terms of overall performance). And considering the Lexus is just as luxurious/premium and has better reliability, I’d love to see that happen. The B58 from BMW is one of the most reliable engines they’ve put out in a while but, I just like Lexus. In terms of German cars, I much prefer Porsche and Mercedes overall.
Bro, your production quality just keeps getting better and better! I was initially looking at the M340i vid when I was shopping for a new car; compared to that video (which itself was no slouch), this quality is at least 2 cuts above.
Love this video! Great quality man! I have a G83 M4 heavily modded and an LC500 heavily modded and alternate dailying them both. These two cars have the same spirit and this review is spot on🎯
Awesome comparison! I have an IS 500 and was considering going to an M340i before I pulled the trigger on the Lexus, but after a year with it, I'm still in love. I feel that the M340i is the better car for most people, on paper, but I felt like it was almost too obvious of a choice if that makes sense. Besides, the return of the V-8 to the Lexus IS was too hype to pass up. As you stated, it is just a fun car, and while outdated, it's certainly interesting compared to an M340i.
Just throwing this out there. I was shopping the IS 500 and BMW M340i and decided to the buy the IS 500 in Vector Blue just like in this video. I bought the car in January 2024 and have had it now for about 10 months. I had always been a BMW fan and had owned an X5, 2012 335 Xdrive, and 2015 435 Xdrive GC. I'm very careful with my cars and always take them to the BMW dealership for all servicing. At the end, I got tired of my BMWs constantly breaking down and costing a fortune. NOTE, I never had engine trouble, it was always everything else such as oil leaks, electronic issues, windows getting stuck, door handles falling off, and all types of little things that really shouldn't go wrong, etc. My wife has had her Lexus RX400H since 2006 which is currently at 350,000 KM and has had no trouble (and she's not as careful as I am). The Lexus reliability had sold me. I will admit, the M340 feels a bit faster and hugs the road a little tighter being AWD. The tech in the BMW is for sure better as well. I have no doubts the B58 engine is better and probably very reliable but it's everything else that could fail and cost a fortune. As a daily driver, the M340i is too stiff and uncomfortable for long drives. For those who are racing purest, it makes sense to go with the M340 (or save up for a real M). The IS 500 is still wicked fast for what most drivers need. The IS500 is way more comfortable, reliable, and I also agree the better looking head turner. I've gotten used to the touch PAD that everyone complains about, it's really not a big deal especially with the touch screen. My biggest complaint which I think will be resolved for the 2025 year, is manual folding side mirrors. Not a big deal but I do have to manually fold them in whenever I park or go through car washes. In short: both cars are fast and agile but if you want comfort and reliability get the Lexus. If you want the "fastest" car and a more prestigious sport-luxury brand, but won't be keeping the car long term, then go with the M340. Curious about other's feedback!
honestly. a great in between would be the TLX type S. would love to see that car included in this bunch. interior is unique, and gives you everything these cars do. obviously it underperforms in terms of straight-line speed, but it handles amazingly and it has really sharp shifting notes. if the IS 500 didnt have a v8 engine i dont think many people would choose this over the two.
I can't help but smile watching this video ! Your shots are on point , informative and fun! Keep going and reaching new levels in your creativity man ! Well done sir !
Honestly a good video, I would say there’s some improvement to be made in regards to sound recording and mixing, but this was fun to watch and I can’t wait for more!
Great video and you can tell you put a lot of time into it. Got my sub! These two cars have two totally different audiences. That's why the comment section is always I am right and you are wrong. The truth is both parties are right! Both great cars and satisfies in different ways. The M340i is great for the person that will own it (or lease) for 3-5 years and wants the rush of the torque from the turbo, enjoys the tight suspension and feedback from the road. The Lexus is for the person that wants to own it for 10+ years, comfort of a luxury vehicle, smooth and soft ride, great sounds (V8 and ML) and occasional spirited driving. So which one are you?
Right on. 👏 I have taken my 500 up to the mountains with Porsches, Beemers, etc., and it hung w/o any issues. It obviously cannot take a hairpin turn like a Porsche, but I quickly catch up in the straights! 😀 Afterwards the drive mode is clicked over to the Dr. Jekyll setting and my 2 hour drive home is serene and comfy.
Great Review. The IS 500 for reliability and would theoretically hold its value far better. Ive owned a 335i. Good luck with repairs costs pask the 100k mark. Lexus to own and BMW to lease. My 2 cents :). Also that V8 sound is worth the price of admission in my humble opinion.
Lexus are for people who prioritize comfort and just want a nice reliable car they can depend on, while BMW’s are for people who prioritize that drivers car feel or tuning capabilities or both. Lexus is definitely more reliable, but the way BMW’s feel just makes it worth it to spend the extra money on maintenance. Besides the n54 tho 😬
The Lexus is damn near good at everything, but the bmw has just a couple of things that give it the edge depending on who you ask and who’s buying it, if your on the market, take a good look at your needs and wants and you will have to ur answer between these two
I test drove the IS500 and it was underwhelming. Well first of all, the interior is extremely small and tight so it’s not very comfortable for long drives. Second of all that V8 is underwhelming and pretty weak. It isn’t loud nor fun to drive and it’s way too polite. It doesn’t feel like you’re driving a RWD car and behaves like an AWD. Also the shifts are extremely slow and hurts the potential of the car. The M340i is a much better car for daily driving and B58 is one of the most reliable cars, has better fuel economy and way more sporty and fun to drive with insane handling.
Meh. I've driven my IS 500 on multiple longer trips and been just fine. You say it's cramped, but it also rides better than an M340i, making it a good cruiser. The IS 500 does not behave like AWD; that is one of the weirdest takes I've seen. Turn off traction control, and it'll become a drift machine.
I’m 6’5 240 lbs with very wide shoulders and do not feel cramped in my 500. Also you need to let the transmission warm up before throwing it into sport +. And with a 2-3k exhaust upgrade it will be one of the best sounding cars on the road besides supercars. This car is not a precise performance machine like a BMW. It just does absolutely everything great. The road presence is so much better than a 340i as well. You won’t turn heads with that car. With the 500 I guarantee you will. BMW is like a small town pretty girl who you can predict every move from, 500 is like the hot girl at school who is a little crazy but once you get with her will give you a lot of emotion.
V8 all day for fun. It could use a little tuning to speed up the transmission though. RR racing I think has a an engine tune that but it also speeds up shifts at least on the older tunes for the 3rd gens.
I had the 2020 M340ix and it was the best car I’ve ever owned. The B58 engine is legendary and extremely reliable. Never had any issues and the adaptive suspension was great. It’s a sleeper car. It was so good that BMW decided to bring the S58 engine to the M3/M4 and add AWD. My lease was up and I moved up to the X3M because I needed a bit more space. The S58 engine is even more legendary but the B58 engine imo sounds way better. The lexus is an amazing car, I was considering it but the interior was dated and the back seats were useless since there was barely any space. The M340ix feels a class bigger in terms of interior space. Either way both cars are sweet. You can’t go wrong with either one. They are extremely reliable and they will put a smile on your face when you floor it.

Preciate it! Yeah I wish they kept the climate control too :(
Climate control is always present on the touch screen. It requires no more "button" presses than if there was a physical button. Plus I generally just say "hey bmw, adjust temperature to xx" and I never have to touch anything.

IS500 all the way, That V8 is legendary and combined with rear wheel. My only wish they should have combined it with Manual. It would have completed this car. I would do Burn outs and Donuts on this car all day long. What a amazing car, Last of the V8's. Next Generation would never know what an amazing V8's were.
Couldn't agree more with the Manual! Lexus listen up 👀
Buy a muscle car if you want a V8. This Lexus is crap and overpriced.

(Feels much heavier in Sport S+)
2) the suspension firms up
3) the transmission feels a little more responsive (not by much but still noticeable).
I dont see many is500 in my city which makes me lean that way. Both seem great but the is500 seems more special cuz it so rare.
thats because it looks the same as a IS350 lol
@@rforracing True, but you can catch people sleeping.
Also, the M340i doesn't look all that different from a 330i with the M Sport and Shadowline packages.
@@rforracingyou are talking as if the m340 doesn't look Identical to the m320i
@@rforracingthe thing is that the 350 is a sexy car.

Lmao
Everything you want the IS500 has it, go buy one while you can
Idc if the beemer is quicker I will always go is500 over the m340i.

BMW doesn't "down play" the power figures, it's about how car is setup through out the power and torque band. BMW has always been tuned to give you the

Well put brothers, FACTS for SURE!!!

Lexus best Reliability in the world !❤

Good job with the review!

Obviously I love BMW, but I’m taking the IS500 with that V8 🔥
Sorry but no one beating BMW in the 60-90k price range
Lexus is
CT5V Black Wing at the edge of 90k. ZL1 camaro was the best bang for the buck performance wise.
The way that BMW self corrected into a straight line is magical 0:02
I love and prefer my m340i 2021 ( hate that they muted the exhaust ). But this Lexus looks and sounds great 🔥🔥🔥.
BMW wins in all aspects imho.
