The BMW sounds good, but that V8 sound though. 😍😍
Right?! I can’t stop thinking about it lol
I feel like Lexus is still to this day trying to figure out what their performance cars are. Branding wise it’s all over the place
M340XI. The b58 is so smooth and massive tuning potential. Just bought an x3 m40i.
Awesome SUV! B58!!
That b58 feels like it’s misfiring at idle most of the time smooth my ass.
@@SuperAsian78 hmm 🤔 maybe YOUR b58 is misfiring 🤷♂️

....................... Beemer is a MASSIVE Headache...everyone knows this & MASSIVE LOSS on Depreciation...Lexus does Not suffer your HUGE Loss and the Glorious V8 Sounds much better!
I owned a 3rd gen IS350 and went for the M340i over the is500. It's literally the is350 with an engine swap. Same interior found in the early 2010s.... lexus couldnt even be bothered to give it wider front tires after significantly increasing the front weight with the v8.... to put it bluntly, the only thing that made me happy testing the is500 was putting the pedal down and hearing the V8. Literally everything else left me wanting more. Not to mention it's far more expensive than a used m340i with low miles. Don't even get me started on the trash transmission. The BMW however has amazing tech, interior, looks, handling, power and transmission. IF you wanna go and drop $1700~ in mods for the bmw it'll hit 500+ whp as well. Go for the BMW. unless you're just a lexus fan.
Thank u for sharing your experience and facts! :)
Also a 3IS owner and saving up for an M240i. Is500 is cool yes but tbh id rather get a GSF
If you’re a professional driver and on the track very often then your arguments are fair, but if you’re a regular driver like 99% of us… idk bro i guess you have your preferences
@@KarlBrosef ill be real even driving around spirited can be painful in an IS. Imagine downshifting and counting to almost 2 Mississippi’s for the transmission to realize what you are trying to do (thats IF it even shifts at all). Ive owned a few IS’s and they are okay but somebody said they are an “old ladies idea of a sports car” and I couldn’t agree more lmao.
@@ChmojBoy That’s fair for spirited driving. I think the is 500 wasn’t even originally supposed to happen , but the engineers really just wanted to “me slap v8 in smol car” and leadership just went ahead and allowed it, hence why it’s called a parts bin car.
I ordered one in April and I’m expecting to take delivery in a few weeks. Not really a professional so maybe the transmission isn’t gonna be that bad for me. I must say tho, the m340i and the liftback m440i were in the running for me a while back.
Bro, your videos don't ever miss!! I literally considered both IS500 and M340i - test drove them both and prefer the M340i for sure. The IS 500 in the vector blue is fire though. I wish they kept the climate control buttons on the new M340is though
Preciate it! Yeah I wish they kept the climate control too :(
Climate control is always present on the touch screen. It requires no more "button" presses than if there was a physical button. Plus I generally just say "hey bmw, adjust temperature to xx" and I never have to touch anything.

Lexus IS500 : rare, more reliable, more beautiful and that NA V8 ♥️
Great points!
Not really. The 500 series Lexus are handbuilt, and have tons of issues with fit and finish. Wind noise, transmission failure, just to name a few. Being a Lexus, these are not cheap to fix. That said, the BMW is hardly going to be more reliable, so take your pick. Both will need heavy maintenance, esp. if you tend to drive hard.

IS500 all the way, That V8 is legendary and combined with rear wheel. My only wish they should have combined it with Manual. It would have completed this car. I would do Burn outs and Donuts on this car all day long. What a amazing car, Last of the V8's. Next Generation would never know what an amazing V8's were.

Awesome comparison! I have an IS 500 and was considering going to an M340i before I pulled the trigger on the Lexus, but after a year with it, I'm still in love. I feel that the M340i is the better car for most people, on paper, but I felt like it was almost too obvious of a choice if that makes sense. Besides, the return of the V-8 to the Lexus IS was too hype to pass up. As you stated, it is just a fun car, and while outdated, it's certainly interesting compared to an M340i.

What an awesome video! Great quality and content awesome to see another Canadian automotive creator! the m340i is out my budget but I am going for a 330i and working my way up to a 340i after.
Intake, inlet, charge pipe, JB4, and axle back exhaust all can be purchased installed on your 330i for around $3,000 and you’re making 320Hp, 360ft-lb. Add a high flow catted downpipe for $1500 and you’re now at 350Hp 400ft-lb which makes you faster off the line and in the quarter mile than the M340i x drive.
@@known3617 appreciate that share I am very new to the car world / scene itself never owned a car so would be a nice change of pace.

Two cars I cross shopped before getting the M340i. Once Lexus updates their interiors and performance, they'll become the cars to have. Love my girls 24 RX350h interior.
Also the harshness on the M340i comes from the runflats. Swap them out and it is cadillac comfy.
Yeah the new Lexus interior is awesome!
Hmm, I’m on PS4S non run flat tires and they still feel a bit harsh but yeah run flats would make it worse lol

I dont see many is500 in my city which makes me lean that way. Both seem great but the is500 seems more special cuz it so rare.

Bro... These two cars are beautiful. And next to eachother, jeeezzzzz
They are!
I was looking at the IS and LC 500 in 2022 super hard. At the time I owned a 22 ES 350, and while it was very comfortable and looked great, it was uninspiring to drive. I found the IS and LC to be similar with the engine and transmission. While they sounded great, it was a huge noise investment with little return on actual performance. The LC is extremely unique and if it had the performance to match, I could have overlooked the monotone interior and outdated tech. I ended up with a BMW M850. After owning that for 6 months, the ES days were numbered. Traded that in on a 23 M340 after specing and building it with the m performance exhaust. I don't think I've even given Lexus another thought since. It's not that I dislike Lexus, but the vehicles are truly only sudo luxury or entry level and they have been riding the reliable reputation way too long. LIfe's too short to own a boring car.
That's the feeling I got from the IS 500; a bit boring. Sure it's fast, but the BMW is just as fast (or faster) and keeps you engaged in the drive while also being pretty comfortable. BMW are masters of their art.
Well put brothers, FACTS for SURE!!!
Life is short to have your BMW in the shop constiently with subpar quality. Been down the road with both and the Lexus gives us everything we need. If you’re ACTUALLY able to buy one of these cars I respect your opinions BUT if you’re a number/commercial regurgitator go for it😅 and buy that service, resale headache.
I would ONLY buy a bmw if it’s used, cheap and has an extended warranty! It’s not worth it @ $60k at ALL.
@@thomasharris5151 Let's be for real here, financial ability affects the ranking of what people look for in a car. The less capable tend to look for reliability while those with more available funds can go for the performance cars that do come with some maintenance concerns.
@@thomasharris5151 so you have owned a G20 m340i??? Because if you have, you’re lying about it being at the shop, STOP lying through your rotten teeth, you have NEVER OWNED an m340i G20, you’re one of those internet people who have no idea what they are talking about!!
Awesome intro! I think this comparison captures how i feel. Both have timeless designs. If the Lexus had awd with that V8, i think (despite being more dated) would be a clear winner.
Yeah if they made a good AWD that’s similar to an M car of M340 where it could still go sideways it’d be great. Thanks!
I went from an ‘08 Acura TL Type S (which I owned for 11 years) right into a ‘23 IS500 (which I’ve owned for a year so far) and tbh it doesn’t feel *that* old to me. I tend to keep my cars 8+ years so the maintenance for the M340i would just be painful over the long term. And Idk that the IS350 feels the same to drive as the 500 especially in the upper ranges, but I found that once you really wake it up, it’s a lot more responsive as long as the RPM stays above 4k. What a lot of people don’t seem to realize is that everything about the IS500 is adaptive and situational since it’s not a full blown sports sedan like the M3 or an ISF and what I mean is for example: 3 things happen at the same time when the speedometer breaks past 40 mph no matter what mode you’re in: 1) The steering wheel feels heavier. (Feels much heavier in Sport S+)
2) the suspension firms up
3) the transmission feels a little more responsive (not by much but still noticeable). The faster you go the more the car firms up and the more it tries to keep itself awake before going back to being low key and “lazy”. When you really push down the kick down pedal from a dig, it feels like it goes “Oh. Oh? it’s time to race?? Ok!” but I think it’s because the CPU is set up for street driving by default, and it takes it a minute for it to feel more responsive for the rest of the driving session after you’ve “primed” it up as long you don’t turn the car off. Hope this helps.
I thought all of the same things when I got my IS.... Just traded my 65K mile IS350 FS for a Audi S4.. At 65K miles it needed a new differential, driver seatbelt assembly, and of all things it developed a wiring issues that threw every code and killed the throttle pedal of the car leaving me a sitting duck in traffic. Never had any issues like that with my Previous Audis. The dealer could not solve the issue, no one wanted to work on it; And they did not want to cover anything under the still active warranty. I really liked my IS, it felt old school and had a very underrated chassis. But after driving my S4 for a month, it really was a car stuck in 2006 besides the ascetics. A regular current gen regular A4 would wipe the floor with a 350 performance wise; I remember when the 3rd gen IS came out, that was reversed; the IS was almost as fast as the then B8 S4 stock. But they never updated the powertrain.
Your intention to pronunciate words is great! Now we can just work on the flow from the start to the end of each sentence! And try to avoid speculation like somehow adding over 200 horsepower with a mild hybrid is a little unnecessary to even bring up otherwise good stuff! Keep up the good work I know you're improvements will come impressively strong! :-)
M340 all day everyday. Total beast.
I used to be a Lexus Fanboy too and owned a 3IS. I was so excited to hear a “new” IS was coming out so I could upgrade… then when it hit the market I loved the exterior but then I saw the interior and realized it was the same old ass car from 2014. I was distraught. Then I read everywhere that BMW reliability had come up tremendously. That they had taken notes during their partnership with Toyota to build the Supra and implemented Toyota style processes during manufacturing leading to them now being on too with reliability. Even outperforming Lexus this past year. So I bought a 3 series and couldn’t be happier. I do wish the IS was fully updated throughout and not just the exterior bc man that car is sexy. It really makes a statement on the road.
Thank u for sharing!
The 3 series is awesome, hope u enjoy it!

Those slides!!!!! So hard
Haha u already know!! Thank u
Give me the is500….in my opinion this version of the IS has to be one of the best looking sedans on the market. The interior of Lexus feel superior in quality to me, even if it lacks the tech (the only tech I care about are heated and cooled seats, back up camera and apple CarPlay, maybe automatic wipers) the rest feels gimmicky. The is500 has a much better sounding exhaust note and it’s no slouch performance wise…. I guess if you 0:15 only have the means for one car I see why you’d want the m340i. Essentially it has more to offer over a wide range of options. But if I just want a fun sedan and I can own a legit sports car on the side… give me the is500 everyday of the week.
Lmao
Love the heated arguments both are great cars it just comes down to preference lol personally I’m taking that Lexus V8
Haha can never go wrong with a V8
Great video and you can tell you put a lot of time into it. Got my sub! These two cars have two totally different audiences. That's why the comment section is always I am right and you are wrong. The truth is both parties are right! Both great cars and satisfies in different ways. The M340i is great for the person that will own it (or lease) for 3-5 years and wants the rush of the torque from the turbo, enjoys the tight suspension and feedback from the road. The Lexus is for the person that wants to own it for 10+ years, comfort of a luxury vehicle, smooth and soft ride, great sounds (V8 and ML) and occasional spirited driving. So which one are you?
Right on. 👏 I have taken my 500 up to the mountains with Porsches, Beemers, etc., and it hung w/o any issues. It obviously cannot take a hairpin turn like a Porsche, but I quickly catch up in the straights! 😀 Afterwards the drive mode is clicked over to the Dr. Jekyll setting and my 2 hour drive home is serene and comfy.
Thank u! Well put.

I have a M240i F series which I had properly Dyno’d before a stage 1 tune.
The car came in at 345bhp which is spot on stated figure.
After stage 1 it came in at 412bhp with 680nm torque.
There is no way a B58tu is making 450bhp without stage 1 tune
I had this exact dilemma, after driving both there was a clear winner in my book. I'm a taller dude and the IS500 was too small for me so I opted for a 2016 Lexus GSF. Couldn't be happier with my choice. The BMW had a very numb driving feel while the V8 Lexus was filled with emotion.
thsoe drift fire props
I test drove the IS500 and it was underwhelming. Well first of all, the interior is extremely small and tight so it’s not very comfortable for long drives. Second of all that V8 is underwhelming and pretty weak. It isn’t loud nor fun to drive and it’s way too polite. It doesn’t feel like you’re driving a RWD car and behaves like an AWD. Also the shifts are extremely slow and hurts the potential of the car. The M340i is a much better car for daily driving and B58 is one of the most reliable cars, has better fuel economy and way more sporty and fun to drive with insane handling.
Meh. I've driven my IS 500 on multiple longer trips and been just fine. You say it's cramped, but it also rides better than an M340i, making it a good cruiser.
The IS 500 does not behave like AWD; that is one of the weirdest takes I've seen. Turn off traction control, and it'll become a drift machine.
