True. I was pretty against any kind of DCT, AMT etc. But being able to pin the throttle and manually still bang through the gears without a clutch sounds like it could actually be fun! Will have to test one come February.

Im still enjoying my '22 SAS, but at least KTM keeps improving/evolving their Adventure series. 12000 miles in and I have not had any issues. Recently went back to a 90/10 tire (Continental Trail Attack 3) and was reminded what a beast she is on these Ozark backroads.
I think Honda have still done it best (although for some reason I remember MV Agusta doing something similar on one of their touring bikes) having the option of making your bike clutchless , semi auto or full manual

I personally will never purchase an automatic motorcycle. A big part of the thrill is railing up and down the gears efficiently. When you hit it right it's a sweet feeling. I'll hang to my 22' 1290 thank you very much.
I get the uproar about the gearbox, however, my last few bikes have all had quickshifters, so the only time you use the clutch is when you come to a stop, and move off. The rest of the time, it’s effectively an automatic. Not having a clutch lever will seem odd initially, but I guess we’ll get used to it, as most big ADV bikes will be automatic in a few years.
It's a Sports Tourer in the shape of an adventure bike. My left hand has enough to do while riding. It doesn't need another job. They could put a rear brake lever up there as well..... then I dont need feet. Not for me.
The move towards no clutch is interesting. It reminds me a little of the TV manufacturers in the 2007 credit crunch when people stopped buying luxury goods (TV’s). They needed a way to get people buying. Suddenly Hollywood start making movies in 3D (Avatar,Gravity, Sky had a dedicated 3D channel). Before you knew it all the manufacturers made 3D TV’s. With Bike sales down I wonder if this is their 3D TV’s moment. Just a thought 🤷🤷
Come on, guys, there are beautiful adventure bikes out there: Africa Twin, T7 World Raid/World Rally and DesertX. The KTMs are not among these bikes. Better looking than the old model does not equal being handsome. KTMs always look a bit cheap. The 1390 is no exception. On top, it's useless offroad.
Interesting. You can change with your foot, so its like on normal bike just using quickshifter, just dont need to use it when you stop/go. Honda dct dont have that, it was boring. I like the looks very much. Much better than old, waiting for sas reveal. 1300gs or 1390sas is my next bike to replace old 14 1200gs.
As a 21+ SA owner I’m not a fan, I dread to think what this costs now too. Mine was £14,999 new which was pretty good for a big adventure bike then. Hopefully the non-evo still has electronic suspension.
I just picked up my new 2024 R a month ago... Taking her to Spain for 8 days in December. Not sure I enjoy the new look, but KTMs aren't known for the looks! I did enjoy the overlay of the bikes on the screen. Cool and/or fun editing skills.
I was sitting/waiting at my dealer for my front wheel replacement under warranty, looking at the 1290 Super Adventure in white and orange last weekend, and from the back at an angle, they are gorgeous bikes. But that front headlight is SO wide, damn it's ugly. I was walking around, also checking the new 1390 SuperDuke, I hated the new predator headlights on pictures, also IRL, still hate them. Now, on this new adventure, it grows on me to be honest, weird.
No clutch level? Meh. Only use it at annoying times when stopping or starting. We already love quick shifters/blippers. Why all the archaic love for a crappy lever that we only use when pulling up to and taking away from some lights? Do we class ourselves as riders only because we can use a clutch twice per track session or when stopped on road?
I use my clutch all the time…even with QS I still use it to wheelie, popping front end up over speed bumps etc and even slipping the clutch for some noise. The clutch adds all the fun. I think it’s great for a tourer but not nakeds, superbikes or supermotos and the likes of.
But remember lads the S is the the most off road focused road bike ktm do and the R is the most off road focused road bike they offer as per their 2023 guffage

You obviously have no idea what you're talking about when it comes to lane assist. Sub 1. The lane assist won't even activate when overtaking if the turn signal is on. Sub 2, the lane assist doesn't offer so much resistance that it could overpower you. and under 3 lane assist will turn off after crossing the dividing line on the road so it can't possibly make you collide with another car when overtaking. Don't talk nonsense if you haven't had experience with such cars.
Adventure bike are probably the fastest growing bike segment over the last decade. The fact that even Harley makes one now, HARLEY, is proof adv is making money.
If I wanted a car, I'd buy one. The only fancy electronic I want on a bike is lean sensitive ABS. Nothing else is required. I've changed rider mode a couple of times on my KTM 890AR, but have gone back to street after a short while. Pointless. What the hell is a quick shifter for? Oh yes, to disguise a substandard gearbox or rider.
It still has a 19 inch front and now the auto so it a definite NO and I doubt the brakes will be any better, come on KTM it’s a road bike give it proper wheel sizes and road brakes not leftovers from the off road versions.

The base model africa twin in black and desert x are actually great looking bikes.
They are the best looking Adv bikes for sure, for me the Tiger 900 is acceptable.
The Scrambler 1200 xe is a great looking 21 inches wheel bike too.

MV have it across most of their range. Scs. Al did a great video on it a few years back on their Turismo. I have one now and love it.

Why cant you have one with both auto/paddle shift and a clutch lever? Just disengage the auto/paddle function when the clutch lever is pulled in?
