In an age where fear is used as both the motivator and the deterrent, your videos come as a fresh breath of air and hope. Very liberating. Thank you. Keep up the excellent work and God bless.
To me this one wasn’t a new information (as you mentioned in video - this is widely experimented and discussed matter) but the way you articulated the details makes it very easy for me to share with others to get a complete idea in one video. Thank you man. Please continue the good job.
I was hoping you would create a detailed video on artificial sweeteners. I have IR and PCOS so I started putting Sugar-free in my tea. I don't have a sweet tooth but I like to enjoy my two cups of chai with little sweetness i cannot drink bland tea. But then my doctor friend said Sugar-free is bad for you - I knew she was not entirely correct, after all she is the doctor! But watching your video made me happy. I will just share this video in future if anyone starts lecturing me on artificial sweetners and their exaggerated side effects.
Me tooo. I cant exist without my morning filter coffee. Drinking without sugar isn't an option for me. So i do take stevia or monk sugar and on every 1st morning, i treat myself with sugar coffee. But feel very guilty. My doctor too warned me of the after effects of artificial sweetners. This video is a life saver for me.
Doctors can be a bit outdated, especially in India. They know the fundamentals. But when it comes to nutrition and the latest research, they are generally not up to date. Next time, ask them why is it bad and explain a bit more thoroughly. If they give a handwavy explanation, then it would be good to consult a few more doctors to get a better idea. But artificial sweetners can cause false insulin spikes, though. So don't overconsume. Stevia based ones are the most safest but truly genuine ones are a bit expensive.
Thank you Krish Ashok for such wonderful videos, they validate all my obsessive google searches. I was kinda hoping to watch a part where you address the recent outrage against erythritol (a study claimed that it puts you at higher risk for cardio vascular diseases, but there have been scientists saying that a lot of key information is missing from the study)

Honestly, a lot of people forget/ignore that you need a risk/benefit analysis. Artificial sweeteners vs 'natural sugar' (not to mention the 'better for you' jaggery, dates, honey) - the latter is much more likely to lead you into diabetes. Those of us who have seen loved ones die of diabetes are more scared of sugar than cancer; those of us who have been unfortunate enough to experience both are scared of all of that ... and yet, human nature being what it is, and more importantly, basic biology, we do want our chocolate, ice cream, cakes, sweets etc...
@@carniyadepths3591 Not true. Excess calories from food + lifestyle + genetics is how this works. Nothing to do with refined/unrefined. Sugar just adds calories easily, that's all.
@@carniyadepths3591 all carbs and some 'interesting' common vegetable fats can mess up your insulin metabolism. ALL sugar, and fructose can be particularly bad for some of us metabolically. Hi! I just started following you and I have to say I **love** your videos! One thing to note though, since I have not heard you mention this, but consuming some sugar substitutes (mainly talking about sugar alcohols) in larger than moderate quantities can have laxative effects, which can be damaging to your gut health, which should not be overlooked. So choosing your sweetener is rather important in this context. Of course, if your sweet tooth is not that strong, you can opt in for sugar alcohols, since they provide sweetness quite similar to traditional sugars, but the minimal laxative amounts of sugar alcohols is not all that low - and especially if you have IBS, you need to choose carefully. Otherwise, I found the video very informative and again, thank you for your work ♥
Speaking as a prediabetic who uses sugar replacements, thank you. You and my doctor tell me the same thing. I wish to add one thing that is outside the purview of your channel, but that I feel is important. For those who are around dogs and birds, Xylitol (aka Birch Sugar) can be lethal for them at small doses. There may be other issues I don't know about, but I had a close call with this one so I try to bring it to any conversation on the subject to that those with pets can do their own research.
This video should have been on the topic "caffeine from coffee". The molecular structure of caffeine really looks great on your t-shirt. And why does casein attract capsaicin? What is the reason sir?
1:09 I remember seeing a UA-cam video "Why no new coal is formed" Seems it was just not the absence of oxygen, but when trees evolved from plants, the pathogens of the time could not break down the hard wood and the planet was eventually covered with piles of dead trees that turned to coal over a long time. Eventually bacterias evolved and started breaking down hard wood, thus stopping the formation of coal forever.

They don't taste exactly as good as sugar does. In any case, the issue with sugary snacks is often just the sugar but other high calorie ingredients like flour and saturated fats. But to be fair, a lot of snacks are available in sugar-substitute versions in the West.
I guess there is no need to beat aroudn the bush. Try to 'avoid sugar' at all costs irrespective of age, gender or health conditions. It does a lot of damage at multiple levels. Sugar substitutes especially Stevia and Monkfruit are the best alternatives to enjoy the occasional sweet.
I’ve seen Dr.Pal, whom I think you’ve done a show with too, say there are some studies suggesting artificial sweeteners are bad for gut health. Can you throw more light on this please?
@ashok I had heard somewhere that Artificial Sweeteners don't help diabetic patients as they still lead to blood glucose spikes. After your video that seems unlikely as these are not digested by our intestines. Right?
I stopped adding sugar to my tea and coffee and stopped consuming sweets. Within a week I got used to it. I wonder why do people think it is difficult to stop adding sugar?
because all people are not alike. we don't even taste the same foods alike, do you know? Like my husband and my son both swear up and down that broccoli is bitter - I have NEVER been able to taste that bitterness; but they can, because they are simply more sensitive to those chemicals. (and to further illustrate how different people are, my son's literal favourite vegetable is broccoli despite this, and my husband is completely mystified that the child used to literally try to STEAL more fried karela from the countertop! he himself treats bitter foods as purely 'medicinal' - and will drink awful bitter coffee which I, who drink coffee for pleasure and not health, refuse to have any truck with; while he finds my preferred coffees too sour!)
It was sad to see Sharks (India edition) on shark tank pass loose comments on artificial sweeteners like Suraclose, calling them harmful. Most viewers are going to take their word without further research :( . We really need videos from educators like you to go viral!
Maybe a small missed opportunity here to explain why, despite this, we have all seen a certain news story of a child who died of sweetener in her birthday cake?
@@krishashok but equally, when enough fuss has been made, people disregard information like this because the 'news' said otherwise, because 'news' is always 'fact' and 'content' is always 'fiction'. But I daresay I am preaching to the choir there...
from a fasting perspective, logically artificial sweeteners should not break the fast, but do you think our body has an insulin response just because of the sweet flavor on our tongue which in turn could bump you out of the fasting phase?
No, as a diabetic who has worn a CGM over a long period, many sweeteners DO cause an actual sugar response. Many of them raise not only insulin but blood sugar. (in my own experience, erythritol, xylitol, stevia and monkfruit do not - but erythritol has cardiac health implications, xylitol is not safe around my pet, stevia's aftertaste makes me want to stop eating altogether and monkfruit is frightfully sweet in anything beyond a drop, which I have found difficult to control the dosing of in actual use. Saccharin, what Krish Ashok was primarily started with, does raise my blood sugar, aspartame less so, maltitol and sucralose are outright frightening for my blood sugar levels - may as well have honey!)
Could you please, please make a demo of how to make chapati dough as per your book? I've tried and failed so many times... Really hoping to find an easy way to make the dough without kneading too much. 😢
@Krishashok - In your video on the Science of Gut microbiome, Dr Sethi said that Artificial sweeteners like Aspertine and Sucralose can have negative effect on gut microbiome. He also said that we should ensure alternate sweeteners do not have Erythritol as an additive as that also has negative effect on gut microbiome. However, you seem to be contradicting your own video here by stating that there is no evidence that any artificial sweetener is harmful at the dose we tend to consume. Can you please clarify?
Food is not straightforward. And doctors, particularly those in the west, take a very cautious approach on social media. My own opinion is based on discussions with multiple people, many of whom are more expert at the subject of sweeteners than Dr Sethi.

You are a legend Ashok. God bless you.
Really liked the Cartman reference
Hehe
Super sir please explain about eating biscuits is good or not
Eat in moderation
@@krishashokdefine moderation. Can poison be eaten in moderation?
I stopped adding sugar to my tea and coffee and stopped consuming sweets. Within a week I got used to it. I wonder why do people think it is difficult to stop adding sugar?
if you were able to stop within a week, then it goes to prove you are not addicted to sugar
because all people are not alike.
we don't even taste the same foods alike, do you know?
Why would they use 100-1000x higher dosage in rat studies if the findings are meant to inform decisions about human food?
I love your show 🎉❤
Bye the way where you got your tee shirt 😊 I adore it🙏would like to have one
Hehe - it’s called fully filmy
Loved this ❤❤❤
Bravo! A brand of next gen sweetner can get that name
It was sad to see Sharks (India edition) on shark tank pass loose comments on artificial sweeteners like Suraclose, calling them harmful. Most viewers are going to take their word without further research :( .
We really need videos from educators like you to go viral!
Indeed
Thankyou so much.
Amazing!
Thanks!
Why do they make me excessively thirsty ?
Maybe a small missed opportunity here to explain why, despite this, we have all seen a certain news story of a child who died of sweetener in her birthday cake?
The problem with highlighting anecdotal, rare bits of news is that it actually distracts from the truth
@@krishashok but equally, when enough fuss has been made, people disregard information like this because the 'news' said otherwise, because 'news' is always 'fact' and 'content' is always 'fiction'. But I daresay I am preaching to the choir there...
How sugar receptors in Tongue work ? I was expecting detaield scientific explanation
Do watch my video on the science of taste ua-cam.com/video/1xJ0xY3jRSQ/v-deo.html
from a fasting perspective, logically artificial sweeteners should not break the fast, but do you think our body has an insulin response just because of the sweet flavor on our tongue which in turn could bump you out of the fasting phase?
Also, CGMs won't be able to detect this because they are only looking at interstitial fluid for glucose not directly at insulin.
Start with a little less water! Like 70% and then work your way up
Thanks!! 😅
Thank you
Where does agave nectar fit in that classification? And your general thoughts on it?
What about sweet proteins ? like thaumatin ?
Can you please an extended video on arecanut.......as a son of Arecanut farmer...I am curious....
what about stevia leaf Sweeteners?its good for health? Thank you so much bro.
