I have heard DBZ in so many ways -Ocean dub from start to mid Ginyu saga - And then I found it on the International channel in Japanese and saw that from Android saga onward - and then Funimation dub from mid Ginyu onward. And I love all 3 All 3 have their highs and lows As I see the squabbling over which is best I feel lucky that all 3 influenced me within such a short period of time because it means all 3 versions to send me into a nostalgic fit, lol.
Ocean dub Goku was cool. I like both voice actors for Goku, but I always did like the ocean dub voice in the old movies like tree of might and worlds' strongest.
I like Ocean, but I really didn't care for the way they would ad-lib the scenes that were intended to be quiet. 'Uh oh! We lost our ride!' 'Hey, Yamcha, turn her around and pick them up.' Not that Funimation was innocent from doing that, either...
@MrWWFattitudefan I know, although here he sounds alot like Ian. Peter's goku sounds way else when he turns super sayain against the androids for the first time. But Ian Corlett is my favourite!

The reason the dub sounds awful is only because you're not use to it. And saying the voices don't fit the characters is strictly your opinion, there are heaps of fans who's opinions differ from your's. For example I like this Goku better because he sounds more kid-like, Gohan sounds more gentle, Krillin sounds more like a little guy, Yamcha sounds more cool and hunkish.
For the most part I like all the Ocean dub and Funimation dub voices equal. But when it comes to Krillin, Gohan, Goku, and Vegito then FUNImation is so much better.
