I'm explaining the reasons as to why the Ocean stuff from before was good yet the post-Namek Ocean stuff is grossly inferior. It was basically FUNi was still helming the project themselves and were hiring those actors before switching to the ones we know they use now, and had more time on their hands. The post-Namek ocean on the other hand was funded by another company and was rushed and cheap, hence the sudden dramatic decline in quality despite the use of those old voice actors.
This is a major plot hole. Cell came from Trunks' timeline which means it was Goku who fought Frieza & Cold on Earth, not Trunks (wasn't born yet). Furthermore, when Dr Gero saw Trunks he was clueless as to who he was so it's impossible that he knew him from before.
Not exactly Trunks’ Timeline, but he came from a timeline very similar to Trunks’, in which 17 and 18 destroy the world, but difference is that Trunks used a shutdown remote on them to defeat them. And yes this is definitely a plot hole since there should be no time travelers arriving Cell’s timeline.
In the UK we got this dub so it holds a special place in my childhood. I actually prefer Ocean Cell's voice, but I do agree that Funi's is higher quality in some respects.

In Japanese it's Ghe-ro (as in Gear-o) for the gear pun. In Ocean it's closer to Gyro (like in gyroscope), presumably swapping out for a gyro pun. In Funi it's pronounced like Jero... As in... the name of a Frenchman I guess?

Here (and in the Ocean dub episodes of the Namek saga) he sounds more alien and freakish, matching his evil character better in my opinion. In the Funi dub he just sounds like an old woman. I'm guessing several that prefer his Funi voice might have become used to it over time and in turn, associated that voice with Frieza; making this one sound a little odd in contrast I suppose.

When I switched over from the Ocean dub to Funi (DBZ on network TV, then changing to Cartoon Network), I missed Piccolo's extremely tough voice, and the more sure sounding Goku the most. Vegeta was nice as well, and gave us the over 9000 meme, but the Funi voice was a good replacement.

Back then they hired the Ocean VAs to play the characters before they switched to the in-house actors, but they were the ones still in charge of the localization and all that back then. Then, for certain regions, another dub was done utilizing the same ocean VAs FUNi hired for those first season.

In my opinion Funi fixed a few things Ocean did wrong, but in turn also made things that where already great in Ocean completely off. Personally I want the Funi DUB. But with the Ocean soundtrack (doesn't sound as cheap, and more hectic). Brian Dummond as Vegeta is also great. The Funi voice wasn't bad but I didn't find it very recognizable. The Ocean Vegeta voice definetly gave more character to him.

Trunks didn't know I existed until he came to the past. I was still maturing and hitched a ride in his time machine secretly. Then Dr. Gero added Trunks cells to my embryo.
Technically, this Cell should have never had the chance of getting Trunks' cells because in the timeline from whence this Cell came from, no time travel occurred. Androids came and killed everyone, meaning no Trunks ever appeared.
I've seen it on Facebook and can confirm that... I believe it's the first time that a majority of the cast of Inuyasha are together... a good time before Inuyasha hit it big in the west too. With Kirby Morrow, Scott McNeil, Moneca Stori and Kelly Sheridan all providing character voices.

Like I said in my previous comment, the production for Ocean dub may not have been much, but it's the Ocean voices that I love. The production of Ocean dub (meaning eps 108 - 291) did improve in it's own right by the time of the Boo saga. Sorry but I didn't like the Funi voices of kid Trunks & Goten, I thought they sounded too croaky. Agree with you on Bruce Falconer's music though I wouldn't call it the best of all the dubs, I still love the Japanese soundtrack.
