when people say Ocean was only suited to the Saiyan & Namek sagas and Funimation suits the rest of the series, that's only because that's what they grew up with. they don't wanna see DBZ any other way. heck; most people who say this don't even like DBKai if Funi had kept using these voice actors, folks would be saying these are the best voices.
Vegeta's Ocean voice suited him well in the Saiyan saga, but as his character develops beyond being a villain, it starts to suit him less. Although Sabat's acting is hammy, he does portray that insecure side of Vegeta a lot better. Other than that: Goku = Funi voice. Ian Cortlett sounds more like Goku, but gave up on the job cuz of the screaming, and Peter Kalamis doesn't quite cut it. Gohan = Toss up Krillin = Prefer the Ocean voice. Funi made him sound like a frog. Piccolo = Ocean by landslide. Scott McNeil IS Piccolo!

Back when funimation took completely over they should have gotten brian drummond from vancouver and brought him to Texas. No disrespect to chris sabat but brian nailed it with vegeta from minute one whereas chris had to find his own voice for vegeta.
I bet anything since ocean had more time with Kai that if the lost dub was found it would sound way better than this. The reason why ocean sounded so half-assed is because they were rushed and their directors kept changing. Which isn't a fair comparison if you think about when people compare ocean in the later eps with Funimation.

So his voice wouldn't change midway in the frieza saga. His voice wouldn't change to this at all unless he smoked heavily. A character's voice is their voice. Doesn't matter if they're evil or good, one voice for one character. Not changing it based on good behaviour. Voices don't work like that.
What are you talking about? It's all about personal preference with each character. Both studios have their good and bad voices. The weakness and strength of Funi is Chris Sabat. A man with a solid voice and the talent to use it. But since he does like half of the characters in the series, it gets redundant after a while. Ocean has a really good Vegeta voice, but some of the side characters are really weak.
Not to mention that Dbz always had a problem with actually showing the character's increased power. Thus a blast/fight at powerlevel 18,000 doesnt look much or any different to a blast or fight at powerlevel three hundred trillion in dbz.
to be honest it all just depends wat you get used to u have to be used to both to b able to compare other than that u have no say in the matter because if u only heard one dub u will obviously prefer the one that u feel comfortable with

wow I love Chris Sabat's Vegeta but to be honest I likes Brian Drummond's Vegeta as well considering that was his voice when Dragon ball z first hit Cartoon Network. I grew to like it. I thought when Chris took over that the voice changed everywhere. Im glad to know Brian is still playing Vegeta
The same reason why Goku wasn't SSJ3 against Majin Vegeta or why Gotenks started off in normal state. And lets not forget about how ten minutes can last like ten twenty minute episodes one moment and only last 5 second another. DBZ logic doesn't mesh well with real world logic.
He may have said that, but that's just because he was used to hearing the Canadian ones, just like most Ocean fans. Vegeta's voice in Ocean was too sniveling, like something I'd expect to hear out of a character like Babidi or Pilaf.
i personally enjoy most dubs of dbz. even the big green dub if only to have a laugh. if the funimation voices had the ocean dub music i think it would have been a pretty much perfect dub. in my opinion vegetas voice is better when its low. but i still adore the ocean dub as its what i grew up with as a kid.

I still never understood why in this little fight Vegeta didn't turn into a Super Saiyan, maybe to make the fight against Kid Buu later when he actually does go Super Saiyan more significant? And also I Prefer Ocean dub. it's the Dragonball Z I grew up watching : )
People are 99% more likely to like the first one they hear because it sounds the most natural to them. That being said, it's really nightmarish to imagine that in the future, kids will think Kai is the best.

Only reason I watch these youtube vids is because Drummond's Vegeta is awesome. But I like Sabat's as well. It'd be great if both versions came out on the same DVD but that'll never happen
Vegeta's is perfect in Funimation, if it weren't for Funimation's Vegeta and Goku, and the Bruce Faulconer soundtrack, DBZ would not be as worldwide as it is now. It'd just be considered another generic late-at-night Cartoon Network anime.
doesnt buu go against the laws of physics.. matter can neither be created nor destroyed.. so if vegeta vaporizes half of his body then how does buu still have the matter left regenerate his entire self? O.o

I never said he was consciously making a comparison, I said it was probable. The Ocean Vegeta's voice just sounds silly, and takes all the badass away from the character.

I prefer Peter Kelamis personally. I do like Kirby as Trowa from Gundam Wing but not as Goku.

Funimation>Ocean dub (Cell saga - kid buu saga)
Ocean Dub > Funimation ( Saiyan saga - frieza saga)
The Super Buu era and onwards is when Ocean finally got in gear; the music definitely started to fit more instead of feeling all over the place :)
Brian Drummond works as the young Vegeta, Christopher Sabet works as the older Vegeta.

we canadians grew up with both dubs. They switched dbz back to the ocean dub during the middle of the cell games saga
