My College professor for my Fitness class is a huge fan of DBZ and joined in on a conversation me and my buddies were having on Goku and Vegeta's strength. He looked at it from a fitness standpoint and mentioned Another reason Goku was stronger than Vegeta most of the time was that he let himself rest. Vegeta trained Hardcore all day everyday and Goku trained like a beast but he always gave time to let his body rest and recuperate so he could get more out of it. In athletics unless you are on steroids that is very true. Rest helps a lot with building strength and power
Once the muscles are worn, they need time to recover. Without that, you're just constantly damaging them and not allowing them to become as strong as they would otherwise
This is one of the reasons I like this saga so much. Goku and Vegeta are constantly passing each other up in this saga. Vegeta still has legitimate animosity towards Goku.
This scene is incredible because Goku's "sixth sense" was ineffective against Vegeta and Trunks. They were the strongest fighters on the planet by a huge margin and Goku couldn't sense it. Goku sincerely doubted Vegeta could handle Cell but couldn't figure out why Vegeta was so cocky which is why he stood there confused as his sixth sense wasn't detecting anything, and Vegeta knew that he was incredibly stronger than both Cell and Goku standing before him.
He did detect it at the end. And when he said "it worked I guess." But anyway, power levels can't be felt unless they are actually powered up. I'm sure Goku sensed Trunks as well. But the thing is, Goku was right, Vegeta still lost.
Goku was just perplexed because vegeta was masking his power level and goku didnt know jus how much they grown. he said triple because he was scaling vegeta to see jus where he might be. But goku found a flaw before vegeta knew of it
Goku : And hey, Vegeta! Wow, you guys sure got strong, huh? Vegeta : That's right Kakarot, and you wouldn't *believe* just how much! 0:56 - 1:02 that brief exchange between goku and vegeta was a great look into their competitive nature as to who has the upper edge. Those smirks and the Vegeta powers up OST enhanced the scene. I also love piccolo's interjection at 1:16. He just has a way of stating his thoughts rationalizing a proper approach to a situation. I felt Goku's shocked expression when he realizes Vegeta increased his strength exponentially.

@@TheseEyesSeeDarknessClearly7 you're forgetting the fact that Vegeta becomes more powerful than mostly anyone when he's extremely pissed off. Just kill Bulma and see what happens haha
And then Vegeta did the "Vegeta thing" and let the Villain recuperate. Honestly Goku and Vegeta are so competitive that it probably costs millions of lives each time they don't destroy the villain when they have the advantage.
Watching this clip you can see how much more brilliant DBZ is compared to DBS. You can feel the maturity, the despair, the honesty of each character. Goku actually seems like an experienced adult - not some dumb simple character that DBS portrays. Vegeta feels like a warrior who holds an unbearable amount of pride and truly believes in himself. In DBS his characteristics were too plain and linear to feel wholesome and honest. Or rather they didn't put in enough effort or screentime to make his character more profound and intriguing. I don't know. I just know this scene alone shows a stark difference in depth between DBZ and DBS
I definitely think you make some good points, especially when it comes to Vegeta's character. In DBZ, Vegeta is portrayed as being an extremely intimidating, unapproachable antihero throughout the Android and Cell sagas. He is selfish, violent, and downright detestable. And yet, he isn't a one-note character during these sagas because we see his redeeming qualities, too: we can respect his drive to be the best, his relentless work ethic, and his sheer talent in combat. We also see the first inklings of compassion in his character when Trunks is killed, and he even has some touching moments with Bulma during his training period before the time skip. In Super, Vegeta is still a very complex character, but he loses a lot of the edge that made him so compelling in DBZ. This makes sense from a narrative standpoint because he has accepted his life as a family man. It's also fascinating to see the goofy side of his personality as he desperately tries to please Beerus and Whis for the sake of his loved ones and the Earth. Still, Vegeta is less compelling as the "hardass with a heart of gold" because he doesn't keep us on our toes the way he did in the early arcs of DBZ. We just want to see him gain some measure of success in his goal to surpass Goku, and we don't really get to see that happen throughout any of Super's 131 episodes. His character just seems to be in stasis throughout Super: he's trying to surpass his rivals, and he always seems to be on the cusp of doing this, but he never quite reaches his goal. That lack of development is frustrating, to say the least. Danny the Red, thanks for giving me something to think about concerning this franchise that I love. You've made me appreciate the artistry of Dragon Ball and its characters to an even greater extent than I ever did before.
they just had a lot of money back then cause of the economic boom, these days event western cartoons are leaps and bounds better then animes like super and one piece

until goku could turn ss3 and after cell vegeta only went super saiyan 1 when he fought buu and the fact that when buu came in goku was the only one who could manage to defend him self. so vegeta is weak through most of dragonball z.. but i'll admit he has few moments.
That end moment put Goku on the path to surpass Vegeta when he realized Vegeta tripled his strength after training in the time chamber room. Instinctively, Goku realized just how special this room was that's why he used it to power up in a different way totally outshining Vegeta.
Goku : And hey Vegeta! Wow, you guys sure got strong, huh? Vegeta : That's right Kakarot, and you wouldn't *believe* just how much! @@joshuadickey5275 I mean I still think he's awesome but he really didn't DO anything cool (he still totally should've been the one to defeat cell) whereas before he actually DID cool stuff
The soundtrack at 1:15 (same one that was used before Vegeta sacrificed himself vs Buu) adds so much to the scene. Really intensifies the gravity of the situation as they need to stop Cell. No other DBZ compares to original Funimation with Faulconer soundtrack.
Everyone was upset that Vegeta had surpassed them greatly. They knew he had become stronger than ever and couldn’t stand that he was actually right about being able to single handedly taking on Cell.
Coolest thing about this scene is that, as of this moment, Vegeta is significantly more powerful than Goku. For one of the only times in the history of DBZ. His code as a warrior stops him from just wasting Goku right then and there, he knows he has to let Goku also get the same year in the chamber for it to be an honorable comparison/fight.
I think I figured out why Goku always ends up being stronger than Vegeta. Anyone, tell me if you agree or disagree... When we exercise our bodies, we always reach that limit to when it feels like our muscles will rip apart. When this happens, we allow our bodies to rest and we eat protein to help the muscles grow thick and hard. This is what Goku does when he trains. He even said so himself when he was bathing with Gohan during their training. Now when it comes to Vegeta, he works his body to the point of collapsing and then keeps going. He never really let's himself recover as much as Goku. I found this to be true because when he was training to become a super saiyan, he said that while trying to protect his ship from the meteor shower it took almost all his strength to do so. This proves that he barely rests his body. Still my favorite saiyan though :)
Yes this is true. I've actually done this before(not on purpose mind you). You see I had a shoulder injury a while back that didn't allow me to workout intensely at all, but before that I use to workout all the time. I would lift weights everyday, workout on the punching bag, and always worked out my abs and forearm muscles. I was overtraining, and even though I got stronger, I seemed to not get that much stronger. Then after my shoulder injury began, I had to rest and rarely did any workouts. After my shoulder had healed completely(which took months) I had gotten stronger. For an example I was finally able to beat my dad in a arm wrestle, and also win against my friend who always used two hands. There are other examples such as being able to lift heavier weights, but you get the point.
You know Vegeta has become a good guy when he didn't even attack Goku here, and he was at least 3 times stronger than Goku. I think he was even stronger than Goku in basic SSJ form before entering the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. Goku would have his ass handed to him by 16,17,18 and Imperfect Cell, not to mention Semi-Perfect Cell.
+Sensei P What do you mean you think? It's already been confirmed Vegeta was stronger as a Super Saiyan original than Goku was. Not that it would matter because Goku had the heart virus and Vegeta could kill him then if he wanted.
Vegeta for the most part shed his villainous ways during the Namek arc. At this point he just wants to destroy the androids and one up Goku. He's slowing been developing bonds with those on earth, he's just too proud to realize it.
Vegeta was executing members of the Ginyu Force back then, lol. He didn't become fully "non-evil" till after he came back to Earth and got over his "must conquer shit" boner. If you remember, when he first got back to Earth he got in a fight with everyone before Bulma tamed him, lol. That's why he completely let go of being evil and killing people unnecessarily. Before then he was just starting down the path of being good, like when he first teamed up on Planet Namek with Gohan & Krillin.
yeah but Vegeta also has his pride, and knows it's become a back and forth game of who is stronger, at the moment.. he wouldn't have any feeling of accomplishment fighting Goku now. He wouldn't even take it seriously. Unless they were both at their best and about equal.
@@jordywoody14 Actually after an episode of Vegeta was beating up on Semi Perfect Cell the narrator says, "will Vegeta be an even worse threat." I always wished that story line would have played out where Vegeta kills Cell and tries to convince Trunks to help him conquer Earth. Then Vegeta beats Trunks after Trunks says no and then Goku has to fight Vegeta again.
Vegeta was at that moment the strongest fighter on Earth. For less than a few hours until he decided to let Cell become perfect and Goku and Gohan emerge from the Time Chamber.
@@ChiquitaSpeaks actually he was after they came out of the hyperbolic time chamber trunks was stronger then vegeta but not by much he was only slightly stronger then vegeta they were almost even at this point "almost."
I think Vegeta always respected the way Tien went at Nappa. Think about how Cui, Dodoria, and Zarbon all tried to beg Vegeta not to kill them once they found out they had no chance. Tien on the other hand in the same situation against Nappa put all his energy in one attack just to damage Nappa as much as possible. Vegeta most likely thinks Tien is a legit crazy person.
I seriously doubt vegeta was stronger than goku when he fought 18. Goku at that point had been super saiyan for 4 years, vegeta probably for an year. So goku has far more control over the super saiyan form, which is why he surpasses vegeta so easily when he trains in the hyperbolic time chamber. And we all know if goku would have fought 18 instead, he would actually have put up a good fight, goku never gets crushed easily even by superior opponents, and has this uncanny knack to improve during the battle itself and even overpower the opponent as he did with frieza. Moreover, considering the level of mastery he would have gained on the Super saiyan form over 4 years, my guess is he was probably as strong as 17 and 18 at that point.
0:57 "So it worked out... I guess" I didn't even catch this until I rewatched it. Goku hasn't gone in the HTC yet and he's already roasting Vegeta. That roast he gave him after he came out with Gohan wasn't an accident. I didn't think Goku was a genius in trash talking too.
Its so funny because for the very first time, Vegeta ACTUALLY was right: he could have defeated Cell and saved the day and all that jazz... ... ... If he hadn't let Cell absorb 18. He could have done it. But he got his spine broken instead. XP

Lol this original Funi DBZ. Like folks in the comments said, about 20+ years for this dub during this saga, 30 years the orginal Japanese airing.
That's interesting. Vegeta got more than triple the times stronger in the chamber. The way he smiled and interrupted Karakot, showing his confidence. It was beautiful and so smug . Enough words were said
That was like, "Oh 3x, amateur, is that all I'm up against? 😂".
@@srinitaaigaura The funny thing is both Goku and Vegeta got over 10x stronger in one zenkai boost on namek. So how would Goku be surprised that Vegeta would be able to more than triple his strength in a year.

He was actually 10x stronger than he previously was. That's why he was laughing at Goku's advice
Lmfaoooo Jaxblade?!? I knew I recognized you bro
Nba, nfl, mlb players
Whis said the same thing
Yeah in mma (ufc) you're not suppose to break yourself in training. Rest is important otherwise you risk ruining your career prematurely.
Once the muscles are worn, they need time to recover. Without that, you're just constantly damaging them and not allowing them to become as strong as they would otherwise
This is one of the reasons I like this saga so much. Goku and Vegeta are constantly passing each other up in this saga. Vegeta still has legitimate animosity towards Goku.
how tf did Trunks hit another puberty lol.
i know right
He was still a teenager so he had room to grow. A year of intense training as a young man would drastically change your bod.
dont worry in Super they Depuberty him

sad but true
@@brucewayne2184 he was actually winning his dumbass just decided it was smart to let cell transform.

Piccolo is such a wise character despite being one of the main Z fighters through most of the show. Even when he stops fighting in the Buu arc he’s still involved in the story for a reason

That's also why he fell asleep on namek and gohan and krillen was able to call the dragon while he slept. He barely sleeps or rests.
Thats logical, but DBZ is not. you lose
So... Do you agree or disagree Benjamin?
you sir are correct
Goku: So it worked out. I guess he
Vegeta: Maybe.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
The sarcasm between these at this moment was gold
Deathbrewer and the whole crying his eyes out as he died from his horrible childhood somewhat confirmed he was officially a good guy
yeah but Vegeta also has his pride, and knows it's become a back and forth game of who is stronger, at the moment.. he wouldn't have any feeling of accomplishment fighting Goku now. He wouldn't even take it seriously. Unless they were both at their best and about equal.

Vegeta was stronger than Goku when he faught 18 everyone said it.
yeah
