It's unbelievable how much has changed. I can't imagine what the lower must look like. God bless everyone who lost their homes. It will be like running a new river. Thanks for the video.
Once folks get comfortable paddling here again, it will be be great to see a shot like this of someone doing it top-to bottom. I have seen some go-pro footage, but the go-pro effect is real. And the overhead drone footage is really cool, but I didn't get a sense of the size of anything until the drone passes over you. These are me problems, not you problems. Thanks for making this.
I think the footage from bottom-up does a decent job of showing how unrunnable decent chunks of the main rapids are at "normal flows" and yet how ready it probably is for 2x flows for a while. The scary part (especially with how many big rocks are stacked on one another, ready to move), is what happens when the next 5yr flood happens. There's a LOT of rocks in Chiefs/Boofers/etc that are gonna shift a LOT in the next flood
I remember hiking into narrows when water was off and everything above gorilla looked manky af. Wonder how much cleaner new narrows will look with the right flow
you could maybe get with John and see if he can get any drone footage of the race to do some side by side clips.of the upstream shots. i know that drone was running up from the bottom of gorilla all the way above Go Left all day during the race.
Somebody is going to die at Sunshine, or get very lucky. Wow, what a rock sieve. Look's like at least 85% or more of the flow at that level is disappearing under that boulder and the far left slot look's almost impossible to hit. The right sneak route would be the best IMO, but the tree stump nix's that. Gotta carry it right now, to scary, deadly.
Thank you for the video. Well done. So sad to see so many changes to the river. Feel extremely fortunate to have run the Narrows many times.
Quality job of documenting the changes. Thank you very much.
Thank you!
Great video. Hate the Green changed so much, but the polished river rocks are really cool. Geology nerd here.
Thanks, great video.

Cool video. Glad i had the privilege of running this great river before it was changed forever.

You're welcome :)
Excellent job! I’m sad to not have gotten a chance to run the narrows before this, but sometime in the future I’d love to get this new run
This new green will be fantastic at high flow!!!
Great footage. Would love to hear commentary by a kayaker who knew the Narrows pre-Helene.
A few kayakers have posted video.
That all you care about nature heals
i look as it this way, new lines
I could kayak that going in reverse blindfolded in the pitch black dark 😅
Did anyone catch video of this river during Helene? That would be insane to see
I feel like next minor flood will set the river and fingers crossed channelize it a little more
Possible names for the new Rapid where the Narrows begin:
Narrow Escape
New Beginnings
Soft Entry
Starting Line
Let’s Go!

Luckily the entire river pushes left above it into an eddy. With how big that sieve is it’ll get clogged with a tree eventually…
Really high chance there will be a number of changes as we get storms. So much of that isn't settled.
Luckily it was just a dammed up irrigation ditch and not a thriving river!!
more changes to come...
first the champions killer was gone, now gorilla rapid :( whats next... i dont want to think about it.
With the Green changing due to the flood. Is it safe to say we can expect to see changes in most western North Carolina runs?
That’s correct.
That sieve in sunshine does not look pleasant at all.
I saw we take that tree next to it and plug it
any video of before
I don't have any drone footage of the before but plenty out there on youTube
@@PaddleInPink It would be so cool to make a side-by-side edit.
Is it possible to try and remove the rock at gorilla? Maby with the help of a jackhammer or drilling in it?
Are you asking regarding the big rock at the top or the rock right at the first drop, what was the notch/eddie?
