[ 10.13.2024 ] Green Narrows 2.0 - Drone View - Hurricane Helene's Changes to the Narrows
I went in with the drone and got as much of the Green Narrows as possible. I barely got Frank's (sorry, no footage of Bride). This video is long and intended for scouting purposes. Pretty much everything about this river has changed. Seeing it in person is a true gut punch. However, the rocks are as if someone went in with bleach and cleaned all of them, which is a beautiful thing. While we all mourn the loss of what was for many kayakers a favorite and sacred gorge, we must embrace the new and expect things in here to change for years to come while rocks and sediment shift to become stable. I fully expect a Green Narrows 3.0.
I have tried to name the rapids. If I made a mistake, please let me know and I will correct it. The best guess is this is similar to 1 unit as a group of kayakers went in the day before and guessed 8-10".

Gnarvana - Gorilla - What Goes Wrong?
Переглядів 347Рік тому
First time running the Gnarvana off Gorilla (on the Green Narrows) and I unintentionally catch the eddie. I have always run direct so I have absolutely no idea where to peel out (I now know I peeled out too high in the eddie.). Pretty ugly after that but it seems like I come off the pad with a decent angle. So what happened in that landing? Level was 8". First clip is full speed, second is slow...

Tallulah Whitewater Kayaking: 500 cfs Recap [Spring 2019]
Thank you for the video. Well done. So sad to see so many changes to the river. Feel extremely fortunate to have run the Narrows many times.
That all you care about nature heals
Luckily it was just a dammed up irrigation ditch and not a thriving river!!
I feel like next minor flood will set the river and fingers crossed channelize it a little more
Thanks, great video.
Excellent job! I’m sad to not have gotten a chance to run the narrows before this, but sometime in the future I’d love to get this new run
Possible names for the new Rapid where the Narrows begin: Narrow Escape New Beginnings Soft Entry Starting Line Let’s Go!
you could maybe get with John and see if he can get any drone footage of the race to do some side by side clips.of the upstream shots. i know that drone was running up from the bottom of gorilla all the way above Go Left all day during the race.
This new green will be fantastic at high flow!!!
more changes to come...
With the Green changing due to the flood. Is it safe to say we can expect to see changes in most western North Carolina runs?
That’s correct.
Once folks get comfortable paddling here again, it will be be great to see a shot like this of someone doing it top-to bottom. I have seen some go-pro footage, but the go-pro effect is real. And the overhead drone footage is really cool, but I didn't get a sense of the size of anything until the drone passes over you. These are me problems, not you problems. Thanks for making this.
I think the footage from bottom-up does a decent job of showing how unrunnable decent chunks of the main rapids are at "normal flows" and yet how ready it probably is for 2x flows for a while. The scary part (especially with how many big rocks are stacked on one another, ready to move), is what happens when the next 5yr flood happens. There's a LOT of rocks in Chiefs/Boofers/etc that are gonna shift a LOT in the next flood
any video of before
I don't have any drone footage of the before but plenty out there on youTube
@@PaddleInPink It would be so cool to make a side-by-side edit.
first the champions killer was gone, now gorilla rapid :( whats next... i dont want to think about it.
Is it possible to try and remove the rock at gorilla? Maby with the help of a jackhammer or drilling in it?
Are you asking regarding the big rock at the top or the rock right at the first drop, what was the notch/eddie?
It's unbelievable how much has changed. I can't imagine what the lower must look like. God bless everyone who lost their homes. It will be like running a new river. Thanks for the video.
Somebody is going to die at Sunshine, or get very lucky. Wow, what a rock sieve. Look's like at least 85% or more of the flow at that level is disappearing under that boulder and the far left slot look's almost impossible to hit. The right sneak route would be the best IMO, but the tree stump nix's that. Gotta carry it right now, to scary, deadly.
Luckily the entire river pushes left above it into an eddy. With how big that sieve is it’ll get clogged with a tree eventually…
Really high chance there will be a number of changes as we get storms. So much of that isn't settled.
Quality job of documenting the changes. Thank you very much.
Thank you!
i look as it this way, new lines
That sieve in sunshine does not look pleasant at all.
I saw we take that tree next to it and plug it
Great footage. Would love to hear commentary by a kayaker who knew the Narrows pre-Helene.
A few kayakers have posted video.
Thank you!
You're welcome :)
You got a shot of my buddy and I in the pink antix and blue hotwhip! Thank you!!
Thanks a lot for your review! Female paddlers perspectives are really important Where did you set the seat position? What’s your height and weight?
I ended up keeping it dead center. I found I was able to boof it better in this position as opposed to one forward. 110 lbs and 5'3". Happy paddling!
Great boofs! I think on that river I'd be screaming too, though it might be more in terror than in victory. Keep your paddle wet, and you're 'yak going forward! I look forward to more of your videos!
Soo what do you think the new Flow is going to be like?
Hard to compare a small to a small one since I don't know the specs for a small flow. So far I have heard nothing but positive reviews on the medium flow. I look forward to testing out a small when one is released and then also doing a comparison. I suspect it will be a very popular boat.
I just got my small flow and will release an initial review of it here in a week or so. Stay tuned!
Angle was good. You lost all your speed when you hit the wall. A strong bow draw/Duffek out of the eddy would have made all the difference.
I absolutely love my small. My #1 go-to boat these days
Great, detailed review. Thank you!
Sweet, but you need to but your gopro in superwide if you want us to see something
Good to know that I’m not the only one that likes to do that…
That was awesome!
Great to see some female feedback on the small Gnarvana. Love your stoke and clean lines!
The bat!
Woodglut has a very large project base.
Super Sendy!
Like the style of this review, useful info without the hype
Glad you liked it!
Did I overlook a supplies list or would you mind sharing the supplies list?
It just depends on what you want for yourself as needs vary. Scroll to the bottom of this link for more of a step-by-step guide that talks about some materials. paddleinpink.com/featured-articles/kayak-rack-build/
This channel is underrated! Thanks for sharing this design
Very nice job. I was looking for a solution that would protect my three kayaks from the weather and chewing animals, but also look good in the landscape. A shed. See my completely enclosed build at "Karin and Larry at Home.
What angle did you use for the arms and supports ?
I honestly don't remember, it wasn't a big angle, maybe 10? Sorry that isn't that helpful.
I just looked back, 10 degrees is what it is :)
Thank you so much! I want to show you my build! Made one shortly after watching this video
Your design looks sturdy!
If I did it again, to make it more sturdy, I would increase each brace to be longer to support more of the weight.
Great video.
Nice build but your video was to fast and lacked a still image of what you made
By all means, send me a still photo once you make it!
Couldn’t u have used the 1st white piece as yo templet ?? seems ,like a extra step in there ?
The white piece that is the screen is used as a template for the cut out.
@@PaddleInPink i see thats how u did it. u could have used the other white sleeve as your templet as well and Not had needed to take apart the screen, :)
🤘😆🤘
Hell Yeah !!
Great info ! Thanks :)
Great and simple tutorial! What about the finished product though?
I have two installed and one literally just stopped working. The other is still kicking.
@@PaddleInPink oh darn! How long did that one last you?
I really like the Woodprix plans.
