The 1970's music included better talent, songwriting, and live performances than any other era.
The 60's was just as good or better.
The 70s better music, better culture, better people!
thats true
Great comment! Very true! 👍
❤❤❤❤
Sure
When musicians had to have talent, and could play live. Today’s “music” is a disgrace. Love ❤ the 70’s.
Neil Sedaka underrated and a gentlemen.
Underrated? He is great!
Underrated by who?
I was so lucky to grow up in the 70's. We didn't realize at the time, just how lucky we were to have all this incredible music. There will never be another time when music is this good.
I also grew up in the 1970s. I was 10 in 1973, we lived through the BEST decade EVER for music. We Had Pop Glam Rock Punk etc etc. We were so lucky. Much better than the music around today. These songs will be played for years to come. Music today will be forgotten next week but our music will live on and on.
Totally agree with you. In my opinion no other era had such diversity in music and such talent. Even most of the Christmas songs we hear every year date from the 70s.
You where happy and free to live in a free world. I was in the comunism, behind the iron curtain. We where starving. I did not know about "Live Aid" until recently when I saw the movie about Queen. But YES, despite the fact my music was recorded from illegal broadcast stations (VOA and Freedom Europe) on tapes, it was the best time for music.❤ Now I am equally happy that I can browse my streaming service, read the lyrics and find out about my dearest songs and musicians. And from time to time I DJ some oldies party where everyone come to hear those songs from golden music years.
Don't we know it... Glad I'm still around to listen to it. The the times...
I feel sorry for the younger generations that I'll say big corporations that help them...
$$$$
The late 70s and early 80s
Still one of my favorite Songs….
Neil Sedaka drained every last ounce of goodness of this song in this particular show! Other versions are good, none are this good!! He absolutely nailed it. LIVE!!
That's real talent. Someone who can actually sing and hit all the notes without autotune. Listening to him sing made me feel happy inside!
How about writing this great song? Incredible
Yep. Back when celebrities had to have actual talent to be a celebrity!
The seventies. When a 36 year old man with a comb over could have a number one record. I miss those days.
Tick Bryan miss those days too. I was in the Marine Corps stationed at Camp LeJeune, NC. Transport me back to the 70s.
Thank-you for your service to our country.
Tick Bryan Thank you
it was an honor to sevre our great nation.
Neil didn't need a combover- he had him a pimp hat!
The only thing missing is the ostrich feather in the hatband!
Another amazing song ...this period is incomparable
Man, how I miss music like this...if only we could pack up & go back to the 70's, when things were so much simpler & so much happier...we had it made back then.
The 70s belonged to Neil Sedaka.I miss those great days of being a kid back then.No internet. No social media. No cell phone or internet bills.
We all played outside and were active. When it rained we had our board games and record collections.
Greatest time to be alive.
People today want fast (disposable) music as well as fast food, and record companies are only too happy to offer it up, that’s why people are stuck with fat arses and shit music.
@@Eleventhearlofmars oh, yes...spot on!
@@Eleventhearlofmars 😩🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃😝🤭
So true. I miss it for sure.
Thats what our parents said about 70s music
One of the best comebacks in music history. Sedaka was mostly forgotten as a hitmaker and singer for a decade before this release although notable people did cover his songs. A hasbeen at 26 and a number one artist in the 70’s. It’s never too late and you’re never too old. Just ask Tina Turner!
The hat worn on his 1974 LP "Sedaka's Back" was given to him by Al Pacino
Great singer, great songwriter, great song, man where did it all go wrong today
1975 was the year of Sedaka: Bad Blood, Laughter in the Rain, and Love will Keep us together.
Actually, " Love will Keep us Together" was Captain and Teneille (sp?) you know, of "Muskrat Love" fame, 😊 but I like your taste in music.
Edit... Well I just learned that he wrote for C.and T., not a surprise 😊 they were all great! ❤ I still smile so much when I hear any of their music.
Simply timeless. I grew up in the 70’s and this music never gets old
I first heard this song working in TJ Maxx. They would play it on their little retail radio station and I fell in live with it. The way that chorus falls in like a heart melting. Well, I've gotta say that was one good thing that came from that job, being introduced to Sedaka.
Wow what compliments
There isn't a speck of talent like this in the world today
No fancy pyrotechnics or stage shows. Just artists and musicians doing what they did best and it was enough!
You gotta love the 70s! So glad I was blessed to grow up in that era!
I'm so glad I grew up listening to music from the 70's. They had everything. Why do you think so many movies use music from that decade in their soundtracks. 🎶🎶🎶
One of my all time favorite songs. Been singing this all my life!!!
Mr. Sedaka is so talented-all those songs he wrote and recorded! No music like his anymore, and that's a shame.
No more,.. The patty is OVER!!!!! We had the BEST!!!!!
I won't stop saying this until it happens; industry insiders need to be scouting for musicians that are expressly attempting to measure up to musicians like Neil Sedaka. It has to happen at a moment when at least one of them discovers how how bored out of their skulls everyone is with predictable stuff that's supposed to represent an instant sell.
@@ericbgordon1575 they wont because their agenda is to make our culture ROT. The moral decay of society started in the 60s but it has finally reached its peak. Its only a matter of a few years and we will see America die.
I'm not giving up hope though, @@AllenMichael. I'm not giving up hope for this country or for the human race. That's why my latest solo recording is named Hope. Here it is.

@@ericbgordon1575 nice! We both do music. Good to know someone is on the same page as I.
I saw him in Lake Tahoe. He was amazing!!
This song is amazing! I love rain days!
The absolute best version of this song Mr. Sedaka ever did! Great work by all on this.
Like the depth in this vocal singing live, versus the studio version where he is in his higher register.
And the saxophone solo is amazing, too.
I always love a come back story , the guy paid his dues after the first part of career, when he had to make a living playing the club circuit in England in the late sixties early seventies. As well as writing for other artists. The song represents and its success was was so well deserved.
In addition to the outstanding vocals, I LOVE the bass player’s groove - SO smooth… 😎🎸
😩🙃🙃🙃🙃😝🤭
i love Neil’s voice. It’s so smooth, so sweet and gentle, but strong. A very happy and genuine sound.
Man, what happened to us as a species??
Good question, but I'm quite happy to have been born when I was and to be able to live through all this wonderful music!
I loved this song as a teenager and now as a grandmother. A timeless tune. Mvto to Mr Sedaka.
Fantastic song writer and he was great live. No lip sync! Genius!
He always sounds as good live as he does on his records, not many can pull that off.
Neil Sedaka's voice is flawless.
This song puts me in a good mood, even when my life turns to shit.
I just realised it has the same effect on me. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. 😃😃😃
If you are still alive, i love you.
@@zahnbuerste I love you too.
@@jkeegan154 Hooray. Thank you so much for the reply. That's so great, that's the internet. It can spread love. I wish you the best for the rest of your life.
@@zahnbuersteThanks
This song must have been played in every roller skating rink in the 70's. That's why I really remember it.
Wonderful talent as a songwriter great song takes you back to a lot of memories ❤😊
Hell of an artist. He was songwriter, musician, singer... Was a helluva time to be a kid.
This songs feels like sunshine on your face on a quiet afternoon walk. No worry and nothing to worry about. Just living and embracing the moment.
He seems so jolly during this performance. I enjoy this more than the studio version.
Yes!!!!
Yes, I love this one.
A true entertainer
I feel joy when I listen to Neil sing. ❤🎶🎵❤🎶🎵❤
I feel very happy, when I listen this song, beautifully voice, I love him, and much respect.
Always loved this song, absolutely gorgeous!
I love this song so very much. Neil Sedaka was a musical genius! ❤❤
Russ Kunkell on drums! He played on hundreds of big hits in the 70's and 80's. He recently toured with James Taylor and Carol King. He was the drummer on all of their big hits.
He is one of the Greatest! Even today, he sings beautifully!
Loved The Midnight Special!
YES, he should be in the R&R HOF
What a great song and great live performance!
I can honestly say his singing this song moves me everytime always always.
Wow..excellent live performance!!!!
What a great song! I was a teenager when it was on the radio and didn't really appreciate it. Life makes you see things differently.
What an incredible talent, to be able to write such lyrics, and put them to music. His voice is perfect, fantastic performance. Thanks
This was the kind of stuff I was exposed to throughout the 70s as a kid when my parents were playing stuff on the turntable. Sedaka, Captain and Tenille, Paul Simon, and then in 1979 my father brought home The Wall album by Pink Floyd and my life changed forever.
The house rule (when I was a little-bitty kid) was that if I could stay awake on my own, I could watch "The Midnight Special" with my dad.😊 I'm so glad that I got to see the acts that you mentioned.
I will also never forget when he brought home "The Wall". I was a little older and when he was at work, I would blast it on his " sound system" . Those were the days! Lol
I saw him live in Sarasota maybe 12 years ago. Great musician and great guy. He does a few shows on Sirius/XM where he discusses his songs. Great, great song, Flawless pitch, beautiful lyrical voice, intricate piano classical piano licks from Julliard training.
Whenever im stress and depressed, i listened to this song to cheer me up and to lift my spirit
Great song. Sedaka is GROSSLY underrated and DEFINITELY belongs in the R&R HOF!
You the MAN Neil Sedaka!
why is this great singer and song writer not in the Hall of Fame even people in Harlem like me want to know
He’s not a rock singer per se.
I like to know, why!!!!!
@@Eleventhearlofmars And acts like Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, Run-DMC, Public Enemy, Donna Summer, Linda Ronstadt, Cat Stevens, N.W.A., Tupac Shakur, The Notorious B.I.G., etc. ARE "rock singers, per se"?
So talented and so very underrated as both a musician and a songwriter.
wow this is one singer that sounds the same recorded or live. Awesome !
Mega talent. Effortless for him. Talent and Julliard plus time at Brill Building
So true!
Sounds as good live as it did in the studio. I miss those days.
HAPPY 76TH BIRTHDAY NEIL SEDAKA (MARCH 13, 2015)
Neil Sedaka is awesome!!! Love, love Laughter in the Rain!!!
Incredible performance of "LAUGHTER IN THE RAIN". GOD BLESS MR. SEDAKA.
Me and my sister watched this live...what a great time for music!
I would say bring it back, but music this day and age stinks.
Yes I did too...I love this song......
At the time we had no idea how magical this show was. And the legendary performers and performances they had every week.
Yes I never missed an episode! I miss those days.
This reminds me so much of the June weekend in 1979 when my special lady at the time and I spent an unforgettable weekend in Toronto. I was done high school and heading out west to British Columbia to take work with my uncles' construction company and she had a year to go. It was doubtful we'd get back together due to moving on in our lives, so we decided to celebrate our high school romance with a long weekend in the city.
The Friday we arrived, we checked in to the Chelsea Inn downtown Toronto, and headed out in the pouring rain to walk along harbourfront. We walked hand in hand, sometimes stopping under an awning or tree just to hug, kiss, and savor the moments.
It's a time I will never forget. We stayed close friends, yet drifted apart when we both found other lovers.
It was a beautiful weekend...four days later we said goodbye through the window of the train I was taking to the Toronto airport...
That’s such a beautiful story! Thanks for sharing it. I miss how feminine women were 20, 30, and 40 years ago!
Beautiful memory, tinged with longing and sadness. Makes my heart ache for my youthful love. Thanks for sharing.
Made me cry, but in a good way
❤
Neil Sedaka is awesome.
God! This beautiful song is soooo PERFECT!
I can hear it again again and many times!
Neil Sedaka have many beautiful songs but this song for me is my #1 💖
I love it a lot! 😍😍😍
Wonderful , just wonderful music !
Perfect performance and touch many people’s hearts ❤️
Is time for Neil Sedaka to be in the ROCK and ROll HALL OF FAME. I got the petition 7 years later. SO SAD.
Neil's got a special place in my heart, rain or shine! Thank you for posting this one!
Neil is a really good singer. I never realized that before.
And his song writing is stellar!
That was an excellent live performance, with great vocal choices and a nice ending.
Those were the days..... Now days.. I'm so happy to listen to so many of our generation of music........to this day....the music that came afterwards, started in the late 80s, it's not the same, stuff, no real heart down to earth..sounds and great inter great feelings.. ... ... It's a shame😊
.
I miss those days!!!!!!!!l
Soul and soul!!!!! Love Mr. Sedaka!!!!
The guiiltiest of guilty pleasures. Damn fantastic.
Man, Neil could wail. Great voice. Spot on, he and the band sound great live. I think Neil, Paul Anka, Frankie Valli, even Wayne Newton to a degree, have always gotten crap that wasn't deserved. They are an important part of the history of American music.
one of my favorite songs of all times!
14 people were just jealous of that awesome hat
Lol
Make it 43 as of June, 2021.
生歌なのに素晴らしく上手い!世代は違うけど大好きです❤️
He seems like such a kind man.
That "oooooooo" note is beautiful.
Wow, he sounds amazing live! :)
Who else still loves ❤️ this 🎵 in 2021?
So effortless with the singing and playing.
One of the Greatest Songs Ever…..
That sound blows me away!!
Neil Sedaka is undoubtfuly one of the best song writers from all times!!!!
always has his voice HES THE MAN no matter the age
One of my favorite song
On this day in 1975 {January 25th} Neil Sedaka performed "Laughter In The Rain" on the late Dick Clark's 'American Bandstand'...
Three months earlier on October 19th, 1974 it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; and on February 1st it peaked at #1 {for 1 week} and spent 20 weeks on the Top 100...
It reached #15 in the U.K.
Was his first release on Elton John's "Rocket Record" label...
R.I.P. Mr. Clark {1929 - 2012} and Mr. Sedaka turns 74 years old this coming March 13th...
This song brings back great memories of my mom listening to this song when I was a kid.
I love you Neil Sedaka too bad everyone aint so beautiful as you...
Não se fazem mais músicas maravilhosas como essa!!! Que tempos e artistas maravilhosos!!
He's not in the R&R hall of fame already?!! Outrageous.
Classic live version, without lip syncing or overdubbing. Believe it’s also most of the original musicians on the actual studio recording as well. At least Russ Kunkel on drums and Brian and Brenda Russell doing background vocals. Superb!
Leland Sklar played the bass on the studio recording, the bass player here looks like David Hungate of Toto.
@@Wowurka You might be right, and it wouldn't surprise me as every member of Toto was so talented and did studio work for many other groups.
unbelievable he is SOMETHING !!
One of the best singers / songwriters of all time...and still singing to this day! HEY!...here's a FUN FACT! He went to school with Carly Simon and they both became great singers and songwriters! I also read somewhere that they dated when they were in high school and always remained friends.
Sendiing this song to the one I LOVE right now!
One of my favorite songs !
Hell yeah he belongs in the HOF - I'm really disappointed he is not already there. Thanks for posting this great song!
