Nick Has mentioned on his UA-cam channle that he would race at 5-10lbs lighter than his pre-season weight at around 155-160lbs. Still heavier than most endurance/ middle distance athletes for his height.

I'm trying to train for the 800 this year. I've made it to state 2 years in a row in the 3200 and 1600. I think my problem is that I do ZERO training at race speed for the 800. All my training is always 3200 specific. 8x400@80s. Or 4x800@2:45. My PR in the 800m is 2:27 and I set that PR off nothing but foundation miles this summer. I'm built short and muscular (especially for a girl) much like you. I feel like if I did some work on getting that 800 down to 2:20 (where I'd need to be to win) then my mile and 2 mile would naturally come down. I've heard that you have your 800m training somewhere but I cant find it.

If your peak race is around May, incorporate workouts like 10x200m @800m goal pace with 200 jog recovery around March. Gradually take it down to 9,8,7,6,5,4x200 as you get closer to the peak race and shorten the rest and speed up the pace.

Ralph Kiszakiewicz it helps. that’s his natural physique, he tends to retain muscle, that’s good for an 800m. It compensates for being shorter than some of the other elite 800 guys. He’s powerful and compact which gives him his fast finish.

yeah, it's extremely important to improve the efficient of the aerobic system. and he does sprints to better his anaerobic energy systems. both are used in the 800 and this way he isolates them. you don't just run 800m to improve your 800 you go over and under to improve specific areas.

He probably could have broke the world record if he kept his weight in check. He should probably be racing at around 5'10" 150lbs... not 170lbs. Perfect example is Wayde van Niekerk 6'0" 160lbs (probably less). Why do you think the most used PED for distance runners is thyroid medication?? Because it's all power-to-weight ratio.

Firstly, this guy sounds like a nice bloke so I want the rest of my comment to be an objective observation, and nothing about him as a person. He doesn't look like a runner in that he doesn't look slender like most middle distance runners do. Even the African bloke he is training with looks big for an African. Their legs don't look straight, they are curved and bandy. The guys are probably fit as all get out, but as someone that does not know them at all, I was surprised when he said he was a runner. It would be interesting to see what he weighs. Athletes these days are getting heavier and heavier. His calves for example are way too big. If you look at runners from the 80's, they had big upper legs, but slender lower legs. Even athletes are not safe from modern metabolic issues.

anzatzi Not all 800m runners are the same built.. likewise not all 400m runners .. we all have different shape, size and body composition.. and you can split 800m runners into 2 groups. The ones comong from a 200m & 400m background.. or the ones coming from a 1500m or higher background.. 800m is like smack in the middle.. it's like the line betweem long and short distance athletes.. and both sides can come together
