Mercy the dog is the MVP. Knew something was up with the grandma, tried to save the little neighbor girl, ran the F away when he knew she was making a big mistake
I'm glad a lot of people like yourself are getting to experience this story that haven't played the game. The game's story was so well written that it is basically serving as a blueprint for the show. There are subtle changes but it only enhances the story. And there are literally scenes and dialogues that are straight from the video game.
ohhh when they were reversing in the car through town ( joel tommy and sarah) the dialogue in that scene felt very video game. I love it I love that some scenes feel ripped from the game.
@@DeashasAlwaysWatching Yes I can confirm that part being that you already watched the episode, that scene was entirely taken from the game. I just subscribed to your channel so I can watch your journey on watching this show It will be fun!
@@selroywestfield4236 no lol I play easy games like the raft haha. But I really like watching others play the harder games like Detroit Become Human and Until Dawn
I love Pedro Pascal's acting in the scene when Sarah Died. He put on a face that was desprate, trumatized and just absolutely heartbroken. It even made me cry when I saw it, and I did not cry the first time I saw Sarah die in the game, even though it was really, really sad. It just hit me diffrent when it was in live action.
This is probably the most faithful video game to live action adaptation there is. Some of the details of the story were changed, but a lot of the action, dialogue, scenery, etc. is lifted directly from the game.
I always wondered, when Joel got back home with Tommy , why wouldnt they just take shelter in thier own home. They had weapons for defense , I never understood getting into thier vehicle and trying to drive out of town.
I'm glad I've managed to find a few reactors like you and BRIDGECO who didn't play the games just to get a gauge on how it translates going in blind. Seems to me that all you'd miss would be a bunch of really esoteric easter eggs and references, but I'm happy to see the story translates just fine. As an avid gamer, my only complaint is that they gave me like six times the amount of time to get re-attached to Sarah in the beginning before taking her away and making me weep like a baby all over again. lol
Yeah I figured I would miss somethings but even without knowing everything this show is great. I was going to watch an easter egg breakdown of the episode but I don't want anything spoiled for me. :) Yes Sarah's death was so hard HBO knew what they were doing it was perfect and heartbreaking. It feels very respectful to the characters for HBO to flush out there relationships and make it feel real.
I saw BRIDGECO’s as well and I liked how they hadn’t even watched the trailers. They are keeping the main plot points so far so I’m pretty sure they are going to stick to the major events. I’m interested in seeing how people are going to react to it.
11:00 I cried at this point like a toddler, even though I saw the scene in the game and reactions x times and knew what was happening. I was very skeptical about Pedro and Bella as Joel and Ellie. But they do it incredibly well. It feels straight out of the game. Also the others ... Nico as Sarah, Gabriel as Tommy, Anna as Tess. All done great. Merle as Marlene anyway cause it's the same actress as in the game. My conclusion after this episode: I've never been so captivated by the start of a series based on a story I know inside and out. So damn close to the game plus more informations and filled gaps. Absolutely masterpiece! The song at the end is Depeche Mode - Never let me down again from 1987. I am sooooo old
The reason people would kill ellie if she told anyone is that if she said she was infected but immune to it, most wouldn’t believe immunity part and would just kill her the second she told anyone of her infection.
20:30 Fedra or others in power wouldn’t want a cure because it would give them less power. Quarantine zones in general would become obsolete and they wouldn’t have an excuse for having so many of these barbaric laws that they have now.
@@DeashasAlwaysWatching Not really a thing that they get into in game 1, I haven't played game 2 so maybe I got spoiled there. In game 1 the reasoning for why they might kill her is just that they'll think that she's infected and she hasn't turned into a zombie yet, so they'll kill her before she turns, that's why it's dangerous to share her situation.
This show does the game justice by how close it stays to the original story, with the addition of a-lot of context to the questions we had throughout the game which only makes us understand the decisions made by each character even more. The executive producer also said “I will never change the story unless it makes it better “
Hey, Deasha! The premiere is scrupulously faithful to the game in every way including story, dialogue, production design, wardrobe, props and characters. A few embellishments like the 1968 prologue, the elderly neighbors, the wandering girl and the FEDRA guard customer actually add context and enhance the drama. Neil Druckmann, who created the game, is producing the show and HBO is obviously letting him influence the production. Craig Mazin, the showrunner, previously produced "Chernobyl". That wasn't a clump of hair in the old lady's mouth but fungal tendrils. As John Hannah's scientist explained, the fungi seeks to propagate so these zombies don't feed on you but instead seek to transmit the spore aggressively. As the cordyceps fungi blooms it erupts out of the central nervous system of the host in several horrific stages ultimately rendering the body into a moldy tableau plastered to the wall. The spores were airborne in the game requiring the use of gas masks in areas of high concentration but the show will be dispensing with that since an airborne contaminant would have afflicted everyone in 20 years except those in hermetically sealed rooms. That's the reason for the vector being fungal tendrils extending from the mouths of the infected in the show. The increased temperature serving as a catalyst was a new explanation provided in the show to reference the issue of climate change. The actress playing Marlene, Merle Dandridge, actually portrayed the same character in the game! The '60's scientist was played by John Hannah known for "Four Weddings and a Funeral", the Brendan Fraser "Mummy" franchise, "Spartacus" and "Agents of SHIELD". Anna Torv, who plays Tess, is best known for "Fringe". Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey are both "Game of Thrones" alums known for Prince Oberyn and Lyanna Mormont, respectively. Pascal is, of course, Din Djarin as well from "The Mandalorian". Uncle Tommy is played by Gabriel Luna who portrayed the Robbie Reyes iteration of Ghost Rider in "Agents of SHIELD". Nico Parker, who stole the show as Sarah, is Thandie Newton's daughter! The video game is one of the most extraordinary journeys you can take that will haunt you forever. The sequel is highly controversial but even darker and deeper than the original!
6:14 Funny that every blind reactor ive seen mentioned if Joel left the note. He actually did leave a note in the game. However Tonny wasnt arrested and he just said he will be later at home.
I played the game when it first came out on PS3 in 2013. They done a great job keeping as close to the game story line. And yes. Playing the game was WAY MORE INTENSE than watching it. Can’t wait for EP3
Last scene of the outer city, when the lighting strikes, keep an eye on the roof of building on the left, u can actually see a clicker looking at Ellie and co
I love that non gamers can experience The Last of Us. It is without a doubt one of the greatest games ever made, and one of the greatest stories ever told. Throw in an amazing cast that includes Pascal, Ramsey, and Torv, with an amazing director, and a company that you know will do it justice (HBO simply doesn't make crap), and you have one amazing show.. It's a hard and brutal story that clenches your heart and soul on many occasions, but that's what makes it such a masterpiece. And to answer your question, the song at the end was Never Let Me Down Again by Depeche Mode. An 80s song. Which does mean trouble, And yes, the final shot with the destroyed city, the leaning building, and the lightning is directly from the game, and one of the game's most iconic shots.
Its also cool that this came out in 2023 and that was the actual year of the timeskip in the game. When i first played the game it felt like 2023 was like 50 years later lol
Starting from the couch scene until the plane crash, it's almost identical to the game. The getting out of the city part is similar to the game. The leaning building scene is a direct shot from the game. Otherwise there was background with the world and other characters that aren't shown but are talked about in the game.
FEDRA really likes the power they have. People in power want to keep that power. If the cordyceps fungus is cured, what need is there for FEDRA? That's why she's dead if someone finds out. Not to mention, how valuable would she be? No chance she wouldn't be kidnapped.
like the child that wandered to the quarantine zone, ellie would be put down just for testing positive. the security guard that caught them at the end most likely would've killed her on the spot.

The “zombies” aren’t zombies. Zombies are reanimated dead people that feed on the living. The infected in tlou aren’t reanimated it’s a cordyceps (fungus) that attacks the host keeping it alive to spread and infect more people. This means the host is still alive and aware of what is happening without any control of what they do.
