I've got to show you the Genius that Brooks Wackerman is: After listening to this for the 1st time back in 2012, I was amazed at the drumming when it begins at 2:29... Now, in 2019, over 7 years later, I listened again and a magical thing has happened! Pay attention to the drumming part in-between Jack Black's lyric pauses: "New Wave tried to destroy the metal" --- no drums, as New Wave originally is (was) --- "but the Metal had its way" "Punk Rock tried to destroy the metal" --- high-speed snare drum, typical punk rock snare sound --- "but Metal was in the way" "Grunge they tried to dethrone the metal" --- drum intro to Smells Like Teen Spirit
Brooks Wackerman is a legend! He used to play drums in 90s for Infectious Grooves and Suicidal Tendencies, and also played in Bad Religion and now he's with Avenged Sevenfold One of the greatest of all time!
brooks is so damned good he can play anything he's challenged to. He's the drummer that ultimately replaced the great Jimmy Sullivan, and not only he lives up to the name, he's also earned a spot between the greats with his latter A7X albums
Jack Black and TD have cemented themselves in the pantheon of metal gods with this song alone. A true tribute to the genre of all genres. Metal will always prevail.
I love this version so much! The mutes on the guitar and bass, plus the heavy and fast drums, Plus Jack and Kyle's vocal harmonies, it makes "the metal" more metal than before!
If you listen closely, the acoustic guitar was completely off in the last part by at least a half step....which I think he finally realizes at 3:30 since he stops playing haha. Not sure if his guitar was in a different tuning or something, but it really bugged me. Anyone else hear it?
Brooks is such a great drummer. He really is imo the total package. The Pinball Wizard/solo from this same performance is amazing. The kit he is playing sounds incredible. I may have to go DW instead of Pearl
+jijst5 Brooks is a great drummer. he can play way more styles of music than most strictly metal drummers can. plus, the guy was in a Trash metal band (not to mention bad religion) he can play blazing fast. not everything needs blast beats to be good metal drumming.
Outrage Quitter I'm not talking 'bout fuckin' blast beats!! (Excuse me, but I really think blast beat suck really hard..) I'm talking about drummers like Mike Mangini (Dream Theather), Marco Minnemann (Aristocrats, Necrophagist), Matt Garstka (Animals as Leaders), Tomas Haake (Meshuggah).... Chris Adler (Lamb of God) and Inferno (Behemoth) are more 'traditional' fast metal drummers, but extremely skilled anyway.
+jijst5 m8, u know this drummer, brooks wackerman is the new drummer of avenged sevenfold right?... he's fucking good, and can play alot of things including metal
+Nour Hassoun I love Brooks (one of my favorite punk drummers) and i didnt know he was also in a thrash metal band in the past. it will be interesting to hear him pull off the Rev's old parts. Im sure he will pass with flying colors. the guy can play anything
well you certainly got that, not only can he play every previous drum part, but he has his own incredible style that he attributed to the stage, which i think is one of the reasons why the album is so great
How he and Kage went about making a carreer I like more tbh. They have a fantastic movie, the most awesome video game ever made and a Blizzcon 2010 performance that nothing could ever top. They are known, loved and will be remembered for generations to come!
145DrumMaster Tenacious D and the pick of Destiny? He's not just a musician he's Kyle Fucking Gass ... but your right it does look like he's just chillin there
Drummer played with Suicidal/Infectious Groove. ... I think he knows his Heavy Drumming, boys. He is killing it!!!! The dude played like this when he was 15 years old, playing in the Steve Vai concept band, Bad for Good (an all, teenage heavy Rock band). Brook Wackerman- Rock On!
The metaphorical, metaphysical meaning of this song is simple: All energy is condensed into a slow vibration. The illusion we exist in presents that vibration to us as music. Water represents blues rock. The Earth's crust represents rock music. The core represents heavy metal music.
It's called a harmonic discord it is two guitarists playing harmonized parts that are slightly on slightly off so it adds a more intense sound. Kinda like playing a seventh chord
Zach Ellis i dont know, hes done some pretty good stuff acting in my opinion. But his stage presence here was way impressive, hilarious and bad ass at the same time
@nicodintudor according to the wiki he uses these drums: 5.5x14 candy apple red maple snare or 6.5x14 DW alluminum snare. He also uses a 5.5x14 Craviatto Diamond series nickel-over-brass snare. The one in the video looks, erm, metal, so maybe it's nickel-over-brass. But I couldn't click 'reply' under your comment so maybe you'll never see this
You're probably mistaking the bass for the guitar. The bass and drums are mixed exceptionally loud in this one. There's nothing wrong with the guitar tone.

Efstathios Mesaretzidis holy shit.. that’s genius
Holy shit.
Omg ty bro its amazing this guy fits perfectly in a7x
Also at 3:25 once they’ve established it’s “METAL” he hits them with what sounds like metallica’s one
What the actual fuck, you’re right.
and now this guy plays for the Avenge Sevenfold. Good for him.
:D
He played for bad religion, suicidal tendencies, Korn, and many more.... Brooks is the shit
ikr, his work on the stage makes me insane. hes sooo goood
He even played for blink-182 live for awhile 😂
OfficialMirrors I knew it was Brooks Wackerman Avenged Sevenfold is the shit
"One drum that crushes all drums. I speak of course of heavy metal drums!" Tenacious D from Drum-off Finals 2011.
The D is metal
Man, they certainly have quite the stage presence. Them vocal harmonies be' massive.
Jack had pretty good vocals. He's underrated. He's on key.
+Eric Lopez He's a great vocalist. The dude has done some great vocal work, live and in studio.
+Eric Lopez He's rated. Not underrated.
DaveDexterMusic underrated as a vocalist
Eric Lopez agreed
Jack Black is actually one of the best singers in rock of all time, people just dont take him seriously bcz he only does humor
Brooks Wackerman is a legend! He used to play drums in 90s for Infectious Grooves and Suicidal Tendencies, and also played in Bad Religion and now he's with Avenged Sevenfold
One of the greatest of all time!
Jack's got a hell of a voice..
That drummer was freakin awsome!LOVED HIS ENERGETIC PLAYING!
what makes it even better is that the set is an arrangement anyone can setup. its not super expensive or complex.
brooks is so damned good he can play anything he's challenged to. He's the drummer that ultimately replaced the great Jimmy Sullivan, and not only he lives up to the name, he's also earned a spot between the greats with his latter A7X albums
Jack Black has one hell of a voice.
***** That's not a documentary, it's a movie.
I sure hope you were joking.
Sweet9964 I hope YOU were joking.
@@Sweet9964 8 years later and this comment is still stupid
Can't help but remember Brütal Legend whenever I see Jack Black talking about the Metal.
Cristian Sosa easily one of the greatest games ever made
Love that game!! A game about heavy metal is just the best!
Congrats Brooks Wackerman on being the drummer for Avenged Sevenfold!
Bro, Jack Black is so next level. I love him so much.
Jack Black and TD have cemented themselves in the pantheon of metal gods with this song alone. A true tribute to the genre of all genres. Metal will always prevail.
Tenacious D is the only band in history that can melt your face off using acoustic guitars. Rock on!
Love Jack for wearing the Dio jacket, R.I.P metal god \m/
I love that song
Yeah and Kyle for wearing his...Pajamas?
Jack Black looked ravishing at The #Oscars this past Sunday but have you seen him play with Tenacious D and Brooks Wackerman at #DrumOff? #tbt
Guitar Center funny after 5 years he became the drummer of avenged sevenfold! Amazing
Avenged Sevenfold made a good choice.
^^^
Aquanox 19 yes
He's The Rev idol, now he replaced The Rev in drummer position
I love this version so much! The mutes on the guitar and bass, plus the heavy and fast drums, Plus Jack and Kyle's vocal harmonies, it makes "the metal" more metal than before!

Meusana ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I just lost my shit laughing at that part
OOOOOOO, I Love that part
first it feels like he's just singing some random note but after the chord change......... !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jack back is a triple threat. Musician, comedian, actor.
Excellent drums 🥁,,,excellent song too 🎶🎶🎵🎶🎶🎵👍👍✌️✌️

John S. Kihm true dat
yea what the fuck
the outro is played in drop D and KG's guitar is tuned to E standard
i love the drummer in this, the energy is awesome
Why doesn't kyle just play electric guitar sometimes Jesus lol
i know his acoustic is literally ruining this
It’s their style. It’s just mixed horribly here by the sound engineer.
It won't work man, it's the same to tell Picasso to go digital painting...
its not ebcause its an acoustic or because its badly mixed, genius. its because Kyle played his part like SHIT xD
@@Cristopher.C The acoustic sounds fine to my guitar-untrained ear, what's wrong with how he did it?

whenever I see Jack Black I cant help myself but only think about Nacho Libre hahahaha
This is fricken poetic and raw. Tenacious D for life!
I want that Dio jacket.
+moviechic07 She wants the D jacket!
It is a sweet jacket
It's just a normal jacket with a Dio patch on it
i love this song and band and drummer::))

1:52 was epic! xD
That rhythm is sick AF!
can we talk about how good their drummer is. jeez this guys is actually good
To all you people criticizing this, you clearly don't understand satire.
These guys win so much at life.
Brooks Wackerman is a beast. I really love this guy. My main inspiration.
Roots of rock and roll and hard to find these days, what a gem of talent

And still the Metal holds supreme 🤘🤘

very cool video
I think KG forgot to tune down to D at the end of the song
God, those drums sound A W E S O M E!
I find it disturbing that the bass guitar is twice as loud as the electric guitar.

yes i should change my comment it just sounds like the guitar is a little weak
Agreed. In serious need of a real distortion pedal. Sounds like overdrive through a single coil which is bad seeing he has doubles...
