I completely rebuilt my '68 Land Rover Series 2A - engine, diffs, new chassis brakes, everything. The only part I didn't rebuild myself was the gearbox. Sent it off to a recommended specialist for a rebuild. Came back looking great. When it finally went back in, it kept jumping out of second gear. Welcome to my world. The amount of stuff I've done because someone effed it up, initially, is mind boggling. I've had to learn so many things... I've seen it happen time and again countless times on my own cars and those of friends. Lots of promises, big cheques... And the car goes worse than before. I don't think there is an easy solution to this problem though, and it pains me to see that beautiful motor with coolant in its bores... It's a disgrace. We're doing it ourselves, and we are doing it right. Adrian's pulled this thing apart and James has been researching the issue since day one so we're on it! This thing will be roaring back to life and better than ever!
This is why, with my 1970 Charger, the only work I haven't done on a ground up nut and bolt resto is the chroming of the front bumper and the machine work on the block. It's taken a hell of a lot longer doing it myself, but I know it's done right, and with care
Hi guys, I got a so called reputable tuning mob to fit & tune a turbo kit for my Corolla & got stung $9,500 for a destroyed turbo & running like a chaff cutter. Justice was going to cost too much for a court case so I did it myself, built a new motor, installed everything & now it actually goes the way it should. In the process I learned a lot. Good luck 🤞 it turns out 3rd time lucky.
My 540ci blown 871 70 charger build has been a nightmare. The shop that built the block had a snapped drill bit inside the block. The block has to be retapped as well. I spent over $25k and when the shop was contacted by the builder they said “idk” and “it’s not a big deal”. We asked if they would correct the issue and they said ship it back on our own dime and then the eta would be over a yr for them to look at it. I definitely feel your guys pain!
Ya I got screwed from a mechanics before. I had one shop go through my car and I had paid them to replace some parts, a water pump, clean out my gas tank and install the new fuel pump, when I picked up the car and drove it maybe 10 minutes it broke down, I checked it out myself the next day and found that they didn't clean out the old gas and just poured in a gas additive, so it burned out my new fuel pump. I had to order another fuel pump, pump out the old gas, clean the tank and do all the work.I was a mechanic at one point but didn't have the time to do all the work. The kicker was I was giving the work to a friend that I knew since elementary school, I got lied to, had to pay for parts I already had bought, paid for labor that I had to redo and I lost an old friend,. From my experience I rather do the work myself because I know it will be done right and I trust it, it's very hard to trust mechanics because I've been lied to and ripped off a few times. so lesson is if you know how to do the work just do it. Ya having the time to do it is the hard part, especially when you have a busy work schedule.
So sorry this happened to you, and more than once from the sounds of it! Why is it so hard to do something right? Doing the right thing works to your advantage so much more than just grabbing that cash money.
I had an 86 camaro with a 350, at the time ( i still have the car and will forever) and i had a friends uncle who ive known for 15 years at that point, and it needed a freeze plug put in the back of the motor and at the time i didnt have the proper tools to do it and he did (11 months and 26 days later he finally gets the car done and charged me 1500 bucks later for a 30 minute job (and the car ran like shit as he had retarded the timing (as it needed new plugs and wires and he had decided that it just needed to run enough (the car ran good before he got it ) but thats when i decided tis time for me to get the tools i needed to not do a repeat of that again!, I wish ya nothing but good luck with all the builds!!! and hopefully no more issues for ya guys like this!

this is what i absolutely hate about the auto industry.. nobodies ever gonna take care of your car the way you would and stupid mistakes happen like this all the time because people just do not care. it really defeats the purpose of shops existing in the first place, you shouldnt have to learn all this just to get a job done.
You're absolutely correct. You'd think with so many people looking to the internet to solve their problems, shops would want to do even better work to win over clients!
The automotive industry is in trouble right now. Cant trust people as much as you used to, hit and miss quality on parts, over promise, under delivering and a overall DGAF attitude. Its nationwide at this point. Had a machine shop do a set of heads for my grandpas 454 k20, installed them and maybe 5 minutes after i got it running the number 3 intake valve dropped and kissed the piston. They installed the wrong keepers. The shop ultimately paid for a rebuilt motor but it took almost 6 months and an attorney.
Technically, what they never acknowledged. Is that Brian won that train race. When they jump across the tracks, the supra is a bumper ahead of the Charger.
It doesn't really matter what they say.. They were at fault and they have to make it good. A factor with certain newcomers to businesses like engine builders, is the Dunning-Kruger Effect. They know just enough to be dangerous. It's tragic that you got caught in the crossover of and old reliable company and newcomers that just didn't have the chops. Thankfully your own wariness and common sense realized things weren't right, in time to seek real expertise... Before permanent damage was done. It makes you wonder, how many others who bought "built" motors from them during the time you did, also got burned.
We understand there are so many shops in the internet age who fall under this umbrella. We were referred to this particular shop from a friend who's had great experiences with them over the years. Less of a curse and more of a hard hard lesson. Now that Adrian has taken it apart so many times he finally just decided to figure out how to fix the issue instead of letting the same shop fumble with it.
I’m planning on getting a lift kit installed on my truck. Is it bad if I ask the shop to put everything in writing for all of the work they are going to do just in case there’s any issues with the finished product? I have been screwed over to many times by shops and it’s very frustrating.
An estimate is pretty customary for a shop to do before beginning work. If the shop isn't willing to do that for you then we would run, not walk, as fast as you can from that place.
We asked the build and tune to be a bit more manageable for the street. We plan on driving this to shows and events. So unless we are chasing the highest numbers it won't make even 900hp.
I’m really sorry that this happened to you guys I’ve seen this before when guys that build “race engine’s” try to build an actual engine that’s going to be used on the street and ran for long periods of time it never lasts people don’t realize these race engine builders know the engines will only run a few seconds at a time never long enough to show problems and also get the oil changed every other run then they freshen it up again after a only a short period of time so some really don’t focus on longevity it just needs to go fast for 6sec at a time lol also I’d really love to work for you guys 🙃
They'd be changing the head gasket every single run. If it lasts that long. Getting the engine nice and hot then a run would destroy that engine. We just wish a little more care and integrity was taken.
That absolutely sucks big time :( I have 1 of these stories myself My e92 M3 in my pic last year in February i decided to get it resprayed by a proper paint shop with a good reputation car was originally jerez black and i wanted it jet black, so booked it in dropped it off May the car was painted and i went to see it and looked great then for some crazy reason they decided to lay a thick heavy coat of wax on and put it back in the booth for 3 days on fresh un-vented 2k, Due to this the paint was a mess and stayed soft and just would not harden, so that was the first F**k up Fast forward a few weeks and a detailing place told me it was no issue they could sort it so i booked it in for a full flat and 3 stage correction with the reassurance it would be perfect once done and ceramic coated and protected etc etc lol Got it back was worse than before still soft paint still scratched up swirled really bad by this time i was around £8000 GBP in on a paint job that was utter garbage So in the end had to find another paint shop who had to bare metal the full car, have all the plastics vapour blasted to remove all the shit paint off them too the carbon roof stripped right back then the full car painted again 🤣 So i went for porsche riviera blue as i couldn’t face having it done black again 🤣🤣🤣 So i do feel your pain Im now around £17,000 GBP deep on a respray on a 2009 M3 thats worth around £16,000 🤣
Wow! How horrible! This is unacceptable and shops like those should not be allowed to take people's money. It sounds like your E92 looks pretty awesome right now and we hope the first paint shop suffered from your reviews and went out of business.
@@JustDriven yea it wasn’t the best situation especially financially its certainly seen to it that this car will be a keeper :-/ and they basically told me to F**k myself for mentioning their name on facebook and that i was no longer welcome at or around their shop, which just proved to me money was worth more to them than the quality of their work, but they are still at it a year later and i have heard a few other people have had the same issues including a poor guy with a near new Ferrari 458 who took it there for rock damage to the front bumper that had pierced the ppf and whilst it was there the owners toddler had gone down the side plastics with 80 grit sanding paper which they had not told the customer about and instead tried to hide it by painting it with texture paint 🤷🏼♂️
Sadly you gotta do everything yourself these days or watch everything yourself. My friend told his engine builder to send him pictures and videos of every single step.
I'd rather spend $5k on parts, mistakes and tools to fix my own stuff than pay a shop $5k to do it for me, and then I learned something in the end. Sounds like your engine shop was cutting corners with parts and labor.
@@JustDriven just finished watching the video, honestly... I don't know what to say other then I fully understand how you feel... I drive Ford Focus Mk4 ST-Line Diesel and since I got it I am looking for a specialized mechanic who can srsly look into my car and tell me everything that wrong with it so that I can fix it. I love my car, but man am I scared to s#!t every time I gotta leave it at the mechanic shop and hope to God they do what I need them to do.. Oil changes and filters and that sort of crap.. and the best thing is, in Croatia, you are not allowed back where the mechanics do the work.. everyone who is not employed at the shop isn't allowed there.. so yeah.. I know how it feels when you need to take someone at their word and hope they don't lie to you :(
Well that’s annoying well if you guys start working on this engine yourselfs you can save a good amount of money 🤷🏽♂️ I think the modern Hemis are interesting engines but I find it disappointing that they don’t have real hemisphere heads like the gen 1 and 2 hemi engines if you gave those engines real hemi heads it would be a great modern hot rod engine 🤷🏽♂️

I have been screwed over to many times by shops and it’s very frustrating.
An estimate is pretty customary for a shop to do before beginning work. If the shop isn't willing to do that for you then we would run, not walk, as fast as you can from that place.
@@JustDriven thanks brother. Keep up the fantastic work
Where are you located?
@@JustDriven Greensboro NC
Why do you ask?
I feel for you guys, this is hard to swallow, very much.
Should make an easy 1000 on normal fuel.
We asked the build and tune to be a bit more manageable for the street. We plan on driving this to shows and events. So unless we are chasing the highest numbers it won't make even 900hp.
I'm wondering if there is a non steam port set of cylinder heads 🤔
We've already begun modifying the heads. The shop already billed us for these and we have a solution.
Ok inlove this style of car i know thos was yoir first big blown car but i really hope its not toir last
We've been forced to learn really quickly. Going forward we plan on taking these things on ourselves.
That absolutely sucks big time :(
I have 1 of these stories myself
My e92 M3 in my pic last year in February i decided to get it resprayed by a proper paint shop with a good reputation car was originally jerez black and i wanted it jet black, so booked it in dropped it off May the car was painted and i went to see it and looked great then for some crazy reason they decided to lay a thick heavy coat of wax on and put it back in the booth for 3 days on fresh un-vented 2k,
Due to this the paint was a mess and stayed soft and just would not harden, so that was the first F**k up
Fast forward a few weeks and a detailing place told me it was no issue they could sort it so i booked it in for a full flat and 3 stage correction with the reassurance it would be perfect once done and ceramic coated and protected etc etc lol
Got it back was worse than before still soft paint still scratched up swirled really bad by this time i was around £8000 GBP in on a paint job that was utter garbage
So in the end had to find another paint shop who had to bare metal the full car, have all the plastics vapour blasted to remove all the shit paint off them too the carbon roof stripped right back then the full car painted again 🤣
So i went for porsche riviera blue as i couldn’t face having it done black again 🤣🤣🤣
So i do feel your pain
Im now around £17,000 GBP deep on a respray on a 2009 M3 thats worth around £16,000 🤣
Those types of choices will catch up to them. And making a keeper out of an E92 isn't the worst thing.
@@JustDriven definitely will and yea im not disappointed just puts a big setback on my 991 dreams lol
Those are wonderful dreams you've got there.
Sadly you gotta do everything yourself these days or watch everything yourself. My friend told his engine builder to send him pictures and videos of every single step.
Integrity is something rare these days. What happened?
Should use Gapless rings also!
We will check this out. Thanks. It may not help our particular situation but we are going to look into just to be safe!
@@JustDriven Helps with keeping the Methanol out of the oil!
Hemis are expensive and not too many builders I’d trust with one
This seems to be the case with so many crafts these days. A sad truth about the world we live in.
I'll bring a trailer and load it up and you won't have the headache to worry about 😂
Haha! We will get your new ride ready for you.
Got issues again i hope is doing alright by then 🙂
Nope. We are having to do it ourselves.
I'd rather spend $5k on parts, mistakes and tools to fix my own stuff than pay a shop $5k to do it for me, and then I learned something in the end.
Sounds like your engine shop was cutting corners with parts and labor.
We are learning this to be true sadly.
How?
That's what we said!
@@JustDrivenlol
daaaamn :((( not again :(
Yup...AGAIN.
Oil changes and filters and that sort of crap..
and the best thing is, in Croatia, you are not allowed back where the mechanics do the work.. everyone who is not employed at the shop isn't allowed there.. so yeah.. I know how it feels when you need to take someone at their word and hope they don't lie to you :(
That's so difficult. We hope your Ford Focus is treated with care and integrity.
We don't typically do ground up hemi builds. We typically reserve those jobs for the "experts." Next time, we'll just take it on ourselves.
If you had time I’d say send that thing off to Steve morris 👌
We don't really have time.
