Box-truck driver tries, but misses, on tight turn into mall lot - Preventable or not?

- This video is an adaptation of a scenario from CCJ's Preventable or Not manuals. It is presented via a partnership between CCJ and Instructional Technologies. Awaiting to cross a busy in-town highway to turn into a mall parking lot to make a delivery, box-truck driver John Doe thought a pickup driver had given him enough space to proceed with his turn. In a quick attempt to wheel into the lot, however, Doe clipped the pickup's front corner. Was this crash preventable or not?
Take it wide, no matter how good of a driver you are, wheelbase can be your worst enemy

Why did the pickup truck start to move forward after backing up
It happens. Most people don’t train you nowadays anyways. I learned through property damage now I be whippin it!
But the truck was back up to the original position when the collision happened

I make much tighter turns than that every day. Can’t avoid them, but I can take steps to make sure I have room. I have to get around shuttle drivers who pull up too far all the time and chew them out for doing so. I arrive the same time every day and they know better.
The sad thing is, I can see where they have been hit from doing so before.
I let that driver go first then go lol
Wave the to the pickup driver to go first, that way you will have more room. Once they are gone and the entrance is clear, then you can turn.
lmao how can he not get his truck in there? I take my truck down the stupidest shit almost every day.

He got impatient, that's all. When I'm making a turn in my box truck, I won't move until I'm 100% sure I can 1, clear oncoming traffic in time and 2, have enough time to see ANY obstacles at or near the intersection. Occasionally, I'll get an impatient driver behind me, but if it's a little four wheeler, he'll just have to realize that I'm in a big, slower truck, and likely need 2-3 times as much time to safely clear the intersection than he will. Not giving in to others' impatience has kept me accident free.
Turn tighter and wait for a proper break in traffic.

I had a buss not see me in a blind spot and cut me off so I had to try go around and it t-boned me.

Why didn’t the pickup truck just go first
Because the box truck was turning left from the main road, therefore he had the right of way. But he wasn't patient enough to wait for a big enough gap in the oncoming traffic. Otherwise, he would have had the time and the presence of mind to focus on turning wide enough to safely maneuver into the mall parking lot. Totally preventable, that driver shouldn't have a CDL. Or, he should go work for SWIFT--he'd fit right in LOL
That pickup is too far to the left.
I would of let took a wider turn
