If you have trouble remembering what turns to make. Use your visual references in your mirrors, the “v” in your landing gear, and remember this LEFT, RIGHT, STRAIGHTEN OUT, RIGHT AND LEFT, straight back. Something simple that stuck in my head for this.
That's the indicator that you're at the right angle with the tractor trailer so counter steer at that point. These angles are an important factor in making the maneuver in as short of a space as possible. That's always going to be a challenge with a tractor trailer because of the length of the vehicle and the amount of space you have.
As a driver that started in 1983 and is still driving today. It is so good to see someone teaching good backing and parking skills. I hope your students will take what they have learned when they enter the industry and do as well then. I have noticed so many that park these days will have their trailers 3-10 feet in a space behind them and they don't care about the next guy. Keep up the good work please.
You're exactly right, We can only teach the correct way so a entry level driver can get the CDL and go out and get some additional training. I would hope that trainers continue to emphasize what they learn in CDL Truck Driving School and instill some "lessons of respect" and "etiquette" towards the other drivers trying to do the same thing as they are. Thanks for the comment!

I was born in 1983 wow that’s amazing you have been in the trucking game for 40 years I would love to sit down with you and pick your brain. I’m currently in school working hard to get my CDL at the young age of 40 😊. May god bless and stay safe.
Oh gosh I’m taking classes now and this manuver is a real pain in the arse …it’s taken my will from me…I can’t seem to get it right no matter how many times I do it….this video makes it seem so easy but trust me it’s easier said then done…thank you though for the upload….im watching it 100 times see if I learn anything
You can do it, it’s just like anything that’s new that you’re trying to learn. It seems very difficult at first, but the more you do it gradually it becomes easier. Try to break it down in several small parts and as you do the exercise make sure you do each part correctly before you go onto the next step. Remember during practice, you can get out and look as many times as you want to, there are no rules for that, but that’s not the case during the test. Then you will only be allowed two times so plan accordingly.
@@quitammcwilliams1995 To be straight, look in both mirrors and if they're adjusted properly you should have the same amount of trailer visible in each side. When doing the maneuver pay close attention to where the tires are as they approach the lines on the course. In the video I show you the turning points when the tires on the trailer and truck approach the lines. Those points will be the same for all trucks. What's not always the same is the amount you turn because each truck is manufactured differently concerning the turning radius.
I‘m in the fifth week of a six week program and we started this yesterday. Oh how I wish you were my instructor! So much clearer than how I‘m being instructed!
Our organization believes in getting to the point and explaining the steps and leaving out anything that doesn’t apply. We recognize that you are paying for instruction and that’s what you get.
Studying for CDL. Today I practiced exactly the same thing like thing, I tried multiple times but couldnt do well. This video is great, tomorrow I will use what I learnt from it.
I’ve been in school for a month now. At the yard I do all for of my skills PERFECT, when I got to the DMV the last two times, the parallel parking is a struggle, tomorrow is my LAST try, please send some positivity my way, I got a family counting on me!
You may not have gotten my response in time. I think your nerves are getting the best of you. All I can say is take your time and if you feel like things are not going well try to correct each part. Break it down into many pieces. If you get too far into the maneuver and it’s not going well, sometimes it’s too difficult to make your corrections. Try to catch them early enough where a pull-up would help you?.
@@mikelogan99CDLClassAskillstest I passed today!!! You’re a 100% right my nerves were getting to me, I woke up in a totally different mind frame today and passed, listened to good music, took deep breaths, went slow just like you said! Thank you for the response and kind words!
I passed last Monday …… I used an extra pull up on this last maneuver . This video helped me a lot . It’s important to nail the first three maneuvers so you could have a point spread going into this . I didn’t keep my rear tandem as far out as you teach. My instructor wanted us to keep in between the cone and the front hash . Different set up but same outcome
Why is there a limit on pull ups? Have you ever been to a customer's dock with a trailer full of freight and had them come out after two pull ups and say, "Sorry, you've reached your pull up limit. Take the freight back to where it came from"?
You’re not limited to two pull ups. The first two are free with no points accessed and then after you’ve taken the two free pull ups you’re then scored accordingly to how many more times you need to pull up in order to complete the exercise. Obviously you’re not allowed to make an unlimited number of corrections because you must prove your skills. This is a test and the same as any test you need to be proficient before you’re licensed to go make actual deliveries. Best of luck!
@@mikelogan99CDLClassAskillstest I get that, but when you're brand new you should be able to make 5 or 6 if need be. As long as you're operating the vehicle safely, that's all that should matter. Speed comes with time.
@@user-zr6pl6nb6z You can take 5 or 6 if you need to. The pull-ups are the least amount of penalty points and all total, after the first two free pull-ups you can take several more in order to do this maneuver and pass. The encroachments are what you want to avoid because they carry a higher point value.
Try to learn this in little steps. Break it down into several small parts and don’t go past any section until you do it correctly. While you’re practicing, take as many looks and pull ups as you need.
the J shape at the end.. when you hard left then chase right into the box.. are u able to see the drive tires from the front like that? I think I wanna try this way seems much easier then trying to completely time the trailer to form a J shape.. 8 more classes left !!
Yes, you can see the tires on both sides from the bottom of your mirrors as long as they are adjusted properly. Think of this, the lane is 12 feet wide and the the truck is 8 feet wide. If you estimate the space on the drivers side at about 2 feet then you have 2 feet on the other side. Sometimes you know how much space you have by doing this. I don’t think I understand what you mean by “completely timing the trailer”. I’ve seen techniques where students have been told to turn and count in their head to estimate seconds. Please don’t ever do that. Always know where you are and if you don’t know, get out and look.
Break it down into little parts and do each step correctly, if you feel like it’s not the way you remember then do that part again. You’re allowed pull ups so you can make the corrections. After the first two free pull ups you start to accumulate points but pull ups are the lowest points value. Best of luck! Let us know how you did on the test.
ua-cam.com/users/shortsh281Xr2szt8?si=dKL-jk0lwhBOWlfN Try this, it's really not that hard to find information about this. In this video they refer to 90/10 field of view.
This video illustrates how to do this maneuver. It's something you'll need to practice several times so you can have a better understanding. You can do it!
I understand but he’s turning hard left to start with and then straightens out a little bit to adjust. Depending on the steering radius of different trucks determines how much you turn. If the turning radius is too sharp, then you’ll end up straight in line with your trailer before you’re in the lane.
@mikelogan99CDLClassAskillstest yes, that is correct. I am currently attending school for my CDL and came to that conclusion pretty quickly, and my speed was to fast during the turning of the steering wheel. I did a lot better yesterday after watching these videos. Thank you
I’m taking my test Oct 16th in Pa they want us to pull up in the box first then pull out the box then straight line back through the box then stop blow the horn then pull back through the box pull out then do the parallel park maneuver I’m stressed out lol
Correct, There's four different exercises. All four are scored individually and if you make mistakes that cause penalty points, they're added up for each exercise you do. When you get to #4 you want the least number of points because #4 seems to be the most difficult. Best of luck!
Just started truck driving school a week ago. This past Thursday my instructor showed me and the other 2 students this maneuver for the very first time. I tried it once and didn't get it right after 2 setups, keep in mind this was my first time ever trying this maneuver let alone ever training in a truck. My instructor was very rude, yelling, and telling me he doesn't understand why I don't know how to complete the maneuver. I'm at the point where I don't want to go back which is a 3 week program. My whole experience there has been painful since the first week of attending. 4 days and they expect for me to know how to operate a manual truck with minimal practice on shifting? Driving while in traffic? No offset backing training? I really want to pass and obtain my cdl. I need help any input would be appreciated.
This person doesn't have the heart of a teacher. You must have patience in this industry when people are trying to learn. It really bothers me when I get a comment like this where someone has paid a lot of money and the instructor is too impatient for this job. You should talk to the director of the school, so just because someone has the experience in truck driving doesn't mean they are the right person to try to teach. They may have other complaints and this person may be on there way out and your complaint may just seal the deal and save others from this person. good luck!
My instructor too is also impatient and tells me I am not doing it correctly because I am not listening to him. However, I do everything he tells me to a T and at the DMV it is wrong. Nerves aside the space at the DMV is way smaller and the DMV testers are very motionless.
I hear this a lot. Tell them to have some patients...I'm learning. This is not a timed event. The space at the DMV needs to be the same as the practice facility. Don't know why it's different unless the training area is incorrect and they're giving you too much space.
You're positioning the front of the trailer as you go back and you want to do that in a short distance that requires turning all the way. I indicate when to turn at the point where the drive axles are inline with the center point of the landing gear frame and the trailer axle is at the entrance line and the same with the drive axle. Those are turning points. Watch the parallel park video in this series and you'll see this demonstrated again. This exercise is a combination of the offset and the parallel park but with more distance than before which makes it easier. Watch where your trailer and tractor axles are. You're in a 12 foot lane with an 8 foot wide truck and you should have about 2 feet on each side from the tire to the boundary line. I hope this helps, good luck! WATCH HERE >>> ua-cam.com/video/MzcQG26ViEI/v-deo.html
I just did this maneuver in my class right now and I asked the instructor if I can be on the outside of the small yellow line he said no it’s 5 points deducted if I did but when I did it I had less issues then before… so I guess I have to have a piece of my outside tire at least inside the yellow line. But I’ll keep trying it this way hopefully I have less issues.
Okay, the truth is you really don’t pay as much attention to the box on the trailer as much you look at the tires. All of the turns are the same regardless of the length of the trailer. The shorter trailer corresponds quicker. I wish you well!
When you make the first right, once you’re positioning your trailer in the box, before you make the left, what should I be seeing out of my driver side rear view and how sharp is the left turn I should be making? This is where I always mess this up
You should be lined up straight and the rear axle of the trailer should be up against the line going into the space. I point that out in the video with the arrow pointing towards the back axle. This is when you turn. I can’t tell you how much to turn because the turning radius is different on different trucks. Start out by turning all the way hard left to get the front of the truck back in front of the trailer and in the lane. If it moved too fast, and you didn’t get the front of the trailer all the way in the lane then you need to make an adjustment. as you looked down the left side of the trailer you should have about 2 foot of space between the tires and the boundary line of the lane. You have an 8 foot wide truck in a 12 foot lane so you should have 2 feet on each side, but the right side is difficult to see so gauge that from the driver side. Let us know if this helps.
You’ll notice in the video I point to the position of the tires. This is an important indicator as to when to counter steer. I also mention taking the right side of the tractor to the Centerpoint of the landing gear to establish your first position to Counter steer. By doing this, it gives you the best angle. From there, you’re looking at the left side of the trailer tire as it goes into the space. You stop there at that position and then turn right until the right side tractor tires roll up to that same entrance line. From that point turn left to bring the front of the truck into the lane lined up with the trailer. Once you’re in your lane, you can pull up to get the tractor and trailer in line with one another and then back towards the 3 foot box that you’re supposed to stop in. That’s a perfect time to get out and look to see what your position is.
It’s all in the training please make sure you train the way you would have liked to be trained. Make it a pleasant experience, maybe the turnover rate for drivers is so high because the new drivers are going into this already with a bitter training experience. These guys will remember this for the rest of their life.
This is our motto and we strive to be better everyday with a goal in mind to help everyone who is trying to accomplish this. You'll always find that one situation where someone just has to wreck your day with the big attitudes. It's in school and after you get into the work force whether it's in traffic, receivers, dispatchers, or DOT, you'll find them in all segments of the industry. Best of luck!
Yes you’re limited because if you drive outside the lines either in front or on the sides it’s an encroachment and you will receive penalty points. Don’t go outside any lines.
@@mikelogan99CDLClassAskillstest that first turn you make I had people tell me stop when you see the landing gear , I wanted to know if you any indications that you turned deep enough for that first left turn
I understand, the reason to look at the landing gear center point is to get the correct angle of the tractor trailer before you make your next turn. You can also get out and look down the side of the tractor to see if both axles are lined up to the landing gear center point. You got this, Thanks for the comment!
Starting backing, you make a hard left, then next step is making a hard right, my question is when do you make a hard right? When you see the landing gear in right convex mirror ?
Yes, when you line up the drive axle “front and rear axle” to the center of the landing gear brace that will give you a very accurate degree of angle that indicates your next turning point. Next, stop when the Tractor and the Trailer are straight in line with each other and continue back until the left side trailer rear axle approaches the entrance of the exercise lane. Turn right when the trailer tire is at the line. Now watch the passenger side and when the rear tractor axle approaches the line, entering into the lane then turn left which brings the tractor in front of the trailer and you should be in the lane. Keep in mind some tractors have a very sharp, turning radius so the amount that you turned can be different from one vehicle to the next. Best of luck to you!
You can go back to the beginning and start over if you want. You’re limited to doing the exercise within a set of boundaries and you can’t go beyond that. Other than that you can take pull ups beyond the two free ones but any pull ups after two are accessed penalty points.
That's unfair because if you didn't do exercise #3 forward offset correct and finished in the best position to begin #4 Reverse offset you're beginning #4 at a disadvantage. You should be able to move the vehicle to the correct set up before beginning the exercise and once you do that the examiner will read to you the overview. In these videos the examiner is giving a general statement that is similar to the overview that will be read during the actual test.
I take my test In a Manuel Day Cab. Would it be possible for me to do this maneuver by doing small turns to the right to go left. And after each small turn. return the steering wheel to the center. Instead of making on big bend like in this video ?
It’s possible because you have a shorter wheelbase and perhaps a smaller turning radius. If you’re able to practice with that truck, that would be great then you could find out if it works.
They will have painted lines. The forward stop and the reverse offset require the vehicle to stop in the designated 3 foot box. It’s not possible to gauge that without the lines.
I have a question sir 🙋♀️ after I have the truck in the box my trailer & truck are all the way to the left side cones with barely any space …../which makes it impossible to straight back into the box. Can you please plz help me with why that’s happening?? Where my mistake is maybe ?? I keep making the same mistake all of your help is appreciated 🙏
Go a little bit further with your back trailer axle that you’re looking at on the left side. But only about a foot, next go in just a little bit further with your tractor axle on the right side at the back tire and just go a little further and that puts it closer to the outside line. It’s a simple adjustment. Good luck.
I would strive to use the mirrors as much as possible. I don’t think you’ll gain much by looking out the drivers window. If you feel like there’s something out there you need to see that take advantage of getting out of truck. Remember you’re allowed two get out and look opportunities.
And another question should that right cone disappeared before you start making that right turn because look like your back trailer tire was right beside the cone just trying to make sure before I test next week. Thank you
The back trailer tire, driver’s side was at the exercise entrance indicating by the dash line. That’s when you turn right. When the passenger side tires start to cross same dash line, turn left. I would pay closer attention to the line marking the entrance and boundary.
It’s not an automatic failure. It’s an encroachment and it has a higher penalty point value. Yes, you must clear the encroachment by reversing direction either forward or backwards. You cannot finish an exercise encroached because it has a high penalty and that will fall you. That’s why it’s important to get out and look to make sure you didn’t finish an exercise with any part of the vehicle outside of boundary line. Once you determine that indicate you’re finished with the exercise either by telling the examiner or entering into the vehicle and sounding the horn..
Also one more question 🙋♀️ are we allowed to position the truck in every state ? No one told us we were allowed to do that ….. I’m from Texas so making sure that rule is applicable in every state ? Thanks in advance
Before you do the exercise, the examiner will give you an overview of the exercise so at that time ask him if you can position the truck parallel to the parking space.
A couple of concerns about that which would be stopping with the rear of the trailer within the 3 foot box. Also the trailer positioning would be more gradual because of the spread, meaning the distance between axle groups.
How many feet in front of the yellow line are his right rear trailer tires on the setup ? Looks like he cranks and then begins to move correct? Is the landing gear 3/4 exposed prior to him chasing after his initial crank to the left?
Make sure the back of the trailer is just past the exercise lane. Turn until you line up the right side of the tractor, or both drive axles to the half way point of the landing gear. This set's you up with the correct angle then make your next move.
Mike, Thank you for taking the time out of your day to respond to this and provide clarification. This is so much appreciated for something you don’t have to do. You are a diamond in the rough. Kelly.
I’m having such a hard time with this make me feel like all this hard work is for nothing but I hope before my test I get it because i made so much sacrifices for this program for this to make me fail
Understand that there's a learning curve with any new thing you try to do. You've picked one of the most challenging because you have a short amount of time and it's expensive. You'll put pressure on yourself especially when you watch others perhaps learn a bit faster than you. My advice is to break these exercises down into smaller parts and do each part correctly before you go to the next part. Each part is a turn so when you are doing Reverse offset backing get the setup right before you go to the next step. Then as you start to back in your first turn is a hard left and you're watching the right side of the vehicle and you want to line up both drive axles with the center part of the trailer landing gear frame. This gets you at the correct angle for the next turn. Once you do that get out and look to see if you are correct when you are looking in the mirror. As you practice you can get out and look and make as many pull ups as you want. You'll do Great!
Hang in there, it’s like anything new that you try to understand. It takes time but soon you’ll look back at this and you’ll have a sense of pride that you accomplished it.
when doing the last right and left maneuvers into the box, is the steering wheel all the ways to the right and then all the way to the left? i test at school tmrw i hope i get this!
Yes, but watch where your trailer tires are as they approach the line and watch your tractor tires as they approach the line at the entrance of the space. Good luck on your test
If you’re practicing, no worries. Just learn to stop, change direction before you do it on the test. It’s called an encroachment and you are penalized. Too many penalty points will cause you to fail the test.
It’s almost 70 ft, he’s pulling a 48’ trailer. Yes, all the way left. Every truck has a different turning radius so this may change from truck to truck.
As I review past responses I want to comment that this is the same for every truck. If it turns too fast then that truck has a shorter turning radius so turn less in that situation.
Mr.logan i fail today im sad about it cause im really trying. I tested on that 40 ft and i couldn't get it for nothing the instructor say i was driving it like i was still practicing in the 53 ft. I just don't know what to do @mikelogan99CDLClassAskillstest
It’s a 48’ trailer, running the trailer axle’s all the way back limits trailer swing and can be easier to control encroachments. Stopping in the rear 3 foot box is easier because you’re looking down at the tires to gauge the distance. The back of the trailer is right behind the tire.
Thanks for the content. Hey. Does it matter how long your trailer is as far as when you're doing these cuts? Also, how long is this trailer that you're using in this video? Is it 53 ft?
It resembles a Parallel park exactly with a couple of differences. You have a longer 100' lane to back into which I feel gives you an advantage and there is a Stop box in the rear. Very easy to do as long as you don't overshoot it. If you do just pull up and finish in the box. Thanks for the comment!
I believe it's the most challenging of all of the menuevers. It takes a lot of practice and like anything you set out to learn for the first time it takes patience. Hang in there!
I'm not sure what you are referring to. The video shows exactly what you are allowed to do with no errors. If someone is telling you something different I would ask questions.
The only way you could know that is if you were standing in a different position other than the camera angle. Was it close, yes. If that did happen it would be scored as an encroachment. Use it as a teaching point. Thanks for the comment.
You may need to do a big part of this on your own, obviously you’re researching different avenues because you’re not satisfied with your present situation. Consult the school director with detailed information as to what is happening. That’s going to help you and others that come after you. Best of luck.
I'm in school, and we're practicing offset, tomorrow 7/22 will make it two weeks we been doing offset and im still struggling with it. 6/9 students got it
During the test you’re only allowed two get out and look. During practice this doesn’t apply. Is your instructor allowing you to get out and look at your position? This might help so that you don’t go past any step without doing it correctly. Look at the location of the trailer tires and tractor tires. I’m showing you turning points in the video. I also point out the angle of your first turn by watching the right side tractor axles lining up to the center portion of the trailer Landing gear braces. Good luck
@@mikelogan99CDLClassAskillstest thank you, and I just think I'm overthinking, which makes it seems harder than what it truly is, and no my instructor never mentioned we can get out and look
You get two looks when you test. It's absolutely important to know when to use these during the exercise. When you practice get out at different times to determine when the looks are most beneficial. The most important is the last position when the rear of the trailer is stopped in the space at the end of the lane. If you're not in that space you could be accessed points and possibly fail.
Not correct, on this exercise you’re going to back up parallel to the exercise lane. It’s not required to back between the lines. That requirement is on the Forward offset as you exit the exercise lane going forward, exercise #3.
@@mikelogan99CDLClassAskillstest honestly im having a hard time lol. either im too far from the first cone or too close. so it messes up the whole maneuver in the end

Thanks for the comment and if anyone who reads this has the same situation, you don't have to tolerate this.
The video starts out with a hard turn to the left, this turn continues until the passenger side drive axles line up with the center point of the frame that supports the landing gear. "looking under the trailer" I point out reference points in the video as to where the tires cross the lines. The right side trailer and the left side of the tractor. These are reference points that indicate the points to turn. I narrate all of the instructions in my other video "Conventional parallel park" I think you should watch. Thanks and good luck!
I wish my instructor’s from Sage were as patient and intuitive of going over the instructions on parallel parking, pre trip etc…. Instead of sitting on there asses screaming to from about 200 feet from. Expecting you to even hear them. Also would have been wonderful had the instructors got in the truck with the students. And perhaps following the same curriculum on the course. Just saying
I suggest to always talk to the school director about any issues you may be having. You never know what the past issues are from an instructor and whether the same issues have been brought before.
Yes, very similar but when you look at the CDL drivers handbook in section 12 the name is Reverse Offset Backing. The video makes reference to the Book. The procedures are like the parallel park but with an additional space. For example this is 100’ lane where as the parallel park is the length of your truck plus an additional 15 feet, which in most cases would be approximately 80’ Thank you for the comment.

If you have trouble remembering what turns to make. Use your visual references in your mirrors, the “v” in your landing gear, and remember this LEFT, RIGHT, STRAIGHTEN OUT, RIGHT AND LEFT, straight back. Something simple that stuck in my head for this.
So after you see the v in the landing gear wat you do then
That's the indicator that you're at the right angle with the tractor trailer so counter steer at that point. These angles are an important factor in making the maneuver in as short of a space as possible. That's always going to be a challenge with a tractor trailer because of the length of the vehicle and the amount of space you have.
Or Lionel Ritchie sings really loud sometimes …. =Left right straight right left straight ! 😉

Great, Let me know if you have any questions. Also let us know if you successfully completed the exercise.

Good to hear you passed, glad you enjoyed the video!

The pull-ups are the least amount of penalty points and all total, after the first two free pull-ups you can take several more in order to do this maneuver and pass. the J shape at the end.. when you hard left then chase right into the box.. are u able to see the drive tires from the front like that?

Can you show how to do an offset backing?
This video illustrates how to do this maneuver. It's something you'll need to practice several times so you can have a better understanding. You can do it!
I think it would be great to see the steer wheels throughout the backing when showing the passenger side
Thank you
That's great!
How far right do you turn though? The whole steering wheel? And same with the left turn how much do you turn?
I understand what you’re saying but the space should be there so you can exit without any of the tires hitting lines.
Can you do a video on how to do it in a shorter trailer? Preferably a low boy ?
A 40 foot trailer
Okay, the truth is you really don’t pay as much attention to the box on the trailer as much you look at the tires. All of the turns are the same regardless of the length of the trailer. The shorter trailer corresponds quicker. I wish you well!
What if you don't have a cone to pin point your where you are for your landing gear when you turn left
I would hope in a learning environment that you would have a reference point. If they won’t put that in place for you you’ll have to try without.
Anyway this video is very useful. Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
What reference points will you suggest when doing the offset reverse, as far as the five steps
Taking my test tomorrow at noon. Really nervous.
Best of luck!

so a blind side parallel into the box?
I would say yes!
If you need to use a pull up are you limited to going no farther forward than the first two cones?
Yes you’re limited because if you drive outside the lines either in front or on the sides it’s an encroachment and you will receive penalty points. Don’t go outside any lines.
How do you know if you have the perfect “v”?
I don’t understand the question, please elaborate
@@mikelogan99CDLClassAskillstest thanks so much for replying!!
You're welcome, I try to reply to all comments.
@@mikelogan99CDLClassAskillstestwhen you say turn hard left in your video did mean hard right?
No, the video explains the turns correctly
When you use a pull up, how far up are you allowed to go? Can you pass the starting point?
You can go back to the beginning and start over if you want. You’re limited to doing the exercise within a set of boundaries and you can’t go beyond that. Other than that you can take pull ups beyond the two free ones but any pull ups after two are accessed penalty points.
So I just asked about setting up for the reverse offset. Il does not allow us to do that. Test tomorrow.
Will there be yellow lines or only cones at the DMV?
They will have painted lines. The forward stop and the reverse offset require the vehicle to stop in the designated 3 foot box. It’s not possible to gauge that without the lines.
@@mikelogan99CDLClassAskillstest Thank you!
Good luck.
@@mikelogan99CDLClassAskillstest thanks so much ! I learned the forward offset watching your videos as well.
That's great!
what should I do if I dont see enough cones out of my driver window
Thanks
If you hit a cone or go out of the lines, would that be an automatic fail or could you use your pull up?
Does the wheel placement on the lines change because you have the tandems all the way back.? What abt for CAs, 41 ft law.?
A couple of concerns about that which would be stopping with the rear of the trailer within the 3 foot box. Also the trailer positioning would be more gradual because of the spread, meaning the distance between axle groups.
What kind of truck is this
It's a Peterbuilt
Take my test tomorrow 😅
Did you pass?
I can never see the cones when im backing up
Check your mirror adjustment, they should be in the bottom of the mirror.

I'm still struggling with this! I need help bad to pass my test
I wish I had painting lines
Can’t imagine not having lines. Good luck!
What happens if you hit a cone
If you’re practicing, no worries. Just learn to stop, change direction before you do it on the test. It’s called an encroachment and you are penalized. Too many penalty points will cause you to fail the test.

Hello is this 40ft truck and did he turn all the way left on his first turn or a half of left
It’s almost 70 ft, he’s pulling a 48’ trailer. Yes, all the way left. Every truck has a different turning radius so this may change from truck to truck.
Ok mr Logan I'm in a 40ft
Will that whole left work for the 40ft
As I review past responses I want to comment that this is the same for every truck. If it turns too fast then that truck has a shorter turning radius so turn less in that situation.
Mr.logan i fail today im sad about it cause im really trying. I tested on that 40 ft and i couldn't get it for nothing the instructor say i was driving it like i was still practicing in the 53 ft. I just don't know what to do @mikelogan99CDLClassAskillstest
What’s the layout for the box 100’ by 12’ ? How wide is the opening?
Refer to section 12M in the CDL manual, It has a reference of 60 feet.
He did great! I have nothing bad to say about this video like do on some othees
Thank you!
Why is the tandoms all the way back?
It’s a 48’ trailer, running the trailer axle’s all the way back limits trailer swing and can be easier to control encroachments. Stopping in the rear 3 foot box is easier because you’re looking down at the tires to gauge the distance. The back of the trailer is right behind the tire.
what would the markers be id i have a 28ft tralier
The cones don’t move with the new modernized test. With the shorter trailer you simply have more space.
LRSRL?
would this technique work on a 27footer?
Yes
I can split my landing gear in a hopper bottom and still get in the box?
Thanks for the content. Hey. Does it matter how long your trailer is as far as when you're doing these cuts? Also, how long is this trailer that you're using in this video? Is it 53 ft?
This is the 48’ trailer. It doesn’t matter how long the trailer is, the length of the lane is 100’ for everyone.
Ok thanks again I appreciate the support and content
Looked like a Parallel Park instead of an Offset.
It resembles a Parallel park exactly with a couple of differences. You have a longer 100' lane to back into which I feel gives you an advantage and there is a Stop box in the rear. Very easy to do as long as you don't overshoot it. If you do just pull up and finish in the box. Thanks for the comment!

Same … did you ever get it?
When your doing front pull of you can’t do it straight to the lane
I'm not sure what you are referring to. The video shows exactly what you are allowed to do with no errors. If someone is telling you something different I would ask questions.
I can't believe how easy they made thease test
I also agree but people still struggle with the reverse offset. It's basically a parallel park like before but now you have a longer lane to do it in.
He busted out the front of that box on the first pull up. We won’t talk about that though lol
The only way you could know that is if you were standing in a different position other than the camera angle. Was it close, yes. If that did happen it would be scored as an encroachment. Use it as a teaching point. Thanks for the comment.
I am currently enrolled at CDL School, but my instructors are not very helpful.

Well said,
Something is Wrong on this video. When moved forward the rear right tire should passed between the cone and the two feet line.
Not correct, on this exercise you’re going to back up parallel to the exercise lane. It’s not required to back between the lines. That requirement is on the Forward offset as you exit the exercise lane going forward, exercise #3.

Thanks for the tip. 👍
In the video the instructor sound very paciente but when you go to the school to learning they yelling at you supos you going to lern not to be yelling ciz you can't get the muve at the first time I think prácticamente make the máster the instructor the yneed to a paciente my experien was like that
I'm sorry you were yelled at. When that happens the learning part is over and all anyone wants to do is give up. Any Instructor that yells at the student doesn't have the patience to be an instructor. I would go immediately to the school director and lodge a formal complaint. Thanks for the comment and if anyone who reads this has the same situation, you don't have to tolerate this.
I’m have trouble with this lol
I understand but like anything you try to learn, it takes time and patience. Don’t give up.
i take my CDL test Wednesday 2/21 .. Does anybody have any points to look at when doing the offset
Thanks and good luck!
thank you im on the course right now practicing for tomorrow im gonna use thattttt 😊
Man that's a parallel park why are you call it something fancy?
Make it sound fancy, you’re right. The procedure is just like doing the parallel park.
this is not a reverse offset backing. it’s a reverse parallel parking
I wish I got this school ....I got it freaking school from California real socks.... Nobody f****** teaching we have to learn in front of the guys they have a little more time.
Sorry to hear you’re not happy with your current school. You should make suggestions to the school director.
This is OFFset Reverse.
😂😂😂😂😂
Reverse offset is the title of the maneuver.
Does anyone know if your mud flaps go out but all tires are in the box the DMV can say that is two points? I live in California and I ran out of points and the tip of my mud flap went out and the woman failed me. She said my mud flap went out so I would have hit the wall. I need help. Anyone?
Just that encroachment would not fail you but several before that had accumulated so therefore you maxed out on your points
THX Mike
You’re welcome!
