    • @TheSoup222222
      @TheSoup222222 2 місяці тому +4

@@autumntx managing a gas pump would mean theyd need vendors for gasoline and a whole set of people dedicated to fuelling. i work as a mechanic for a truck leasing agency, our location has our own diesel, def, and gas pumps to service customers/drivers and i can tell you now it loses money just to maintain the infrastructure and keep buying the fuels and fluid to fill it compared to simply handing a driver a fuel card for the local speedway. BUT it is part of providing good customer service and it's seen as an amenity that allows us to keep customers, plus it gives some added convenience.

Ha ehh, idk about brutal. The associates that work at the delivery stations have it brutal lol. But it's all some form of team work in the end so whatever
-for example i have to get a 60yr old woman to run across the warehouse to collect and put his route together for delivery. She needs to complete it in X amount time and those totes can get pretty darn heavy for even a fit young man. She has to do at least 4 of these routes and that's after already working for 6hrs unloading, sorting, and stowing all the packages for the day. Modern day/ western sweatshop
But without drivers customers wouldn't get packages. Without warehouse associates drivers wouldn't get packages. Team work!

@@LaosHouse Definitely can confirm about FedEx lol. My truck is loaded for me every morning, although some mornings my truck is a complete disaster and I have to reorganize the entire thing anyways lol. I'm lucky to where I can start my day pretty much whenever as long as my timed deliveries are met and most days I am done before 4pm. Other drivers in my hub don't get back until well after 6 since they have heavy business routes with 5pm pickups, so I would say I lucked out.

At my warehouse, we can help drivers load up their vans, if we have enough headcount to spare and so long as we aren't falling behind staging routes. Since we start at around 8:50 - 9 AM after sort is done, and the first wave of drivers isn't until 9:30-ish. At most we have around 4 people each, on our two launchpads helping with load out. When I think of almost any job. I feel like amazon would push my BY FAR the farthest out of my comfort zone. How do you not freak out always going to places and not always knowing where to go. You can't always ask for help and your coworkers cant help you. Doesnt that give you any anxiety? What about driving in so many different places? Do you ever worry about crashing the van. Driving that close to people in a van would stress me out ontop of not knowing where to put a package in a big building would give me an unbearable amount of anxiety, plus being pushed to go faster by your boss. I really would struggle with this. Props to you for showing this!

Anyways cool to see different people's routes. I typically do rural routes so it was interesting to see you navigate multi story office buildings. For me 100 stops 150 packages is a lot lol. However rural is more spread out. I also did XL and 50 stops is a lot for them.
While there are things I will miss about the job. I will not miss being overworked by Amazon. I was starting to get burned out. Hopefully I can get by on unemployment until the next grind. Wrapping the seatbelt over the wheel is what a lot of us do in the EDVs as well. I recommend actually wearing the seatbelt properly tho, especially since you have more consequences for any infractions you get with a DOT cert. Pretty much the only meaningful advantage of the EDVs other than COOOLLLD A/C and cooled seats is you mostly get the StepVan experience without needing the cert since the vehicle weighs like, 9000 lbs I believe?

Honestly I'm a Steward (dishwasher) at a large-scale tribal-owned entertainment venue that earns revenue through wagers, but these kinds of videos make me wonder whether it would be worth it to try spending some time as a courier. On the flip side, I've got the golden handcuffs. If I leave, my tenure clock resets, but if I stay here another 5 years, I'll get a 10-year $1k bonus.
I'm only 24 and already feeling locked into a company but the curiosity of other industries is always on my mind

    I should've been working Amazon.
I ran for FedEx for two years (Late 2018 - Early 2021), the lowest stop count I had was 180, and the highest was 398.
That 398 day was during Peak (Christmas) my first year, it got dark with ~60 stops left in a shady neighborhood. I tried 4-5 stops then heard gunshots. Those boxes became a "tomorrow problem."
    On average
    2018 it was ~190 stops / 250 packages
    2019 it bumped to ~240 stops / 300 packages
    2020 it bumped to ~265 stops / 340 packages
2021 it bumped to ~300 stops / 390 packages - This is when I quit.
I still hate Chewy with a passion.

This is fascinating to watch . My area is far too small to have same day or next day delivery. Or Amazon delivery trucks. We only get Amazon deliveries on Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday with UPS. And I guess sometimes with post office but they're not reliable if it looks like it's going to the post office.. then I go in cancel and then send it to the nearest prime box. Which is like 30 miles away...
