- ELO Telephone Line reaction. This is one of the most beautiful things i have heard in years! The song is so joyful and left me delirious.
Electric Light Orchestra, are one hell of a band!
Check out this reaction.
I’m the 1970’s in NYC, John Lennon was a guest DJ on one of our most popular radio stations here. When asked what he thought the Beatles would have sounded like had they still been together, he said ELO.. I listened LIVE that night. Much love 🙏🏼
Remember John calling ELO "Sons of Beatles". Don't know if it was during that same show.
Amazining. Good old John!
He's 100% right. Lynne clearly loved the Beatles music and it's laced throughout his own.
It's great to think John Lennon and Paul McCartney both really appreciated ELO. That kind of sums it up for me.
you all probably dont care but does someone know a method to log back into an instagram account?
I somehow lost my login password. I love any tips you can offer me!
I love ELO. Jeff Lynne is a genius.
To think a lot of us grew up with ELO
Not a bad Era to grow up in and Ohhh that other pesky band from the UK called???...Queen?...I think!
We were spoiled in the 1970s!
The radio airwaves were FILLED with great music!
Beautiful song, always left me with a melancholy feeling.
Definitely. Just a wonderful evocation of longing and loneliness.
It is supposed to.
Beautifully written, produced, and performed. Truly joyful. That's ELO. You are right, my friend!
Love, love, love ELO. Mr. Blue Sky is a must. Also Showdown.
The one song and only song I do not like by them. I think it was overplayed at the time.
Yes! Showdown is a great song!
10538 overture then the eldorado album ...keep expanding your musical horizons kid....
What a beautiful reaction. I have been an ELO fan for 30 years, and its wonderful to see peoples reaction whren they discover Jeffs genius for the first time.
Enjoy the journey my brother - stay safe.
Andrew.
Jeff Lynne is a master song writer, the man is a genius, not a bad song in sight with Elo.
Mister Blue Skies 💖
Absolutely 👍👍
Listening to ELO makes the world a better place.. grew up with their releases. I’m 66.. I know how you feel.. 👍
You should listen to this, live, Harri!!!!!!!!!! You'll SEE and HEAR all the players, all the singers and the women in this!!
ELO is brilliant! You'll enjoy this rabbit hole. "One Summer Dream" "Can't Get it Out of my Head" a couple of my favorites, but many great songs. Great reaction 👍👍
I ❤️ One Summer Dream too! Also Momma, Kuaima and Down Home Town and...so many others 👍
Can't get it out of my head is amazing!
I consider this one of the saddest songs ever, but then ELO produced one of the happiest songs ever: Mr. Blue Sky. So, you can pick your mood easily.
Literally 😭😭🥺🥺
Just wait until you hear "Mr Blue Sky" or "Rockaria"!
Your mind wil be blown.
And there are plenty more where they came from - the magical mind of Jeff Lynne!
John Lennon once said, and I paraphrase, “If the Beatles had a child, it would be ELO” . So much Beatles and ELO in your future, I’m jealous...
ELO Musically the best ever. Pure Classic-Symphonic Rock!
ELO has always been and will always be one of my all-time favorite groups! ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
Mine too David 👍😊
Me three!!!
One of my deceased sister:s favorite bands and therefore became one of mine as we shared everything. Every time I hear them, I see her wearing the headsets and singing. One of the few groups that bring me happiness of my youth with her. Bless them.
"Strange Magic" next?
Btw, Paul McCartney knows Jeff Lynne.
The whole album needs to be listened to in order.
I feel "New World Record" to be their best, in my opinion. Could never get tired of it. I compare it to "Revolver" as I feel, in my opinion, that album to be better than Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
Jeff Lynne's ELO the very best in this world!!! Please Tour in 2022!!!
John Lennon once said,”if The Beatles had a child, it would be ELO “ brilliant ☮️❤️😎
Now THAT'S A REACTION!!! Thanks for the honesty.
It is such a JOY to see you reacting to music that I have loved for decades! It allows me the memory of the first time I heard these songs. You are a beautiful soul, and you understand it! Pure Joy!
One of the few bands that uses violins and cellos. So beautiful
Now, you have to remember Jeff Lynne, the lead singer joined up with George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison and Tom Petty to form the Travelling Willburys.
And Jim Keltner who had ties with the Beatles as well
I just LOVE LOVE LOVE ELO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm 61 and when I was a teenager ELO was my go to music driving back and forth to the beach with the windows down and ELO blaring. Those were the days.
jeff lynne worked with the beatles, had a band with george harrison and even produced the last unknown beatles songs in the 90ies.
One of my all-time favorite ELO songs ... Maybe Is should say one of my all-time favorite songs PERIOD. ELO was one of my favorite bands back in the day ... along with The Beatles, The Eagles, Queen, Steve Wonder, etc. etc.
I agree with you that this song is just beautiful ... and so sad.
ELO still touring up til shut down . Check out Wembley or bust tour live performance videos on youtube . Wembley concert was I believe HBO concert special international I have it on digital recording . Fifty years and still fantastic . Jeff Lynne is a magician .
Wembley concert was in 2018 .
Fantastic!
Harri, you're a human dowsing rod for great music.
Some of us have been swimming in that water for over 40 years
The long version of Mr. Blue Sky is your next must listen.
Yes, please! You should listen to the entire side, "Concerto for a Rainy Day".
Calling America is the next one. My favorite by ELO and has a lot of special memories attached to it
"McCartney would be proud of this guy" lol. Jeff lynne produced free as a bird and real love for the beatles. The intro to this song "hello how are you" gets me everytime
This was my favorite ELO song for a long time, back when it was brand new.
Hi Harri. I've been listening to this song since the 70's. awesome song.
Me too
Jeff Lynne the leader of ELO actually got into EMI studios while the Beatles were recording Sgt. Pepper. He said it was a life changing experience. Years later he was given the duty of rescuing the last Beatles tunes, from an old John Lennon recording. What an achievement!
Harri? it's the strings in this that tug at the heart-beautiful piece by them- my personal favorite. (saw them live in '73)
MY favourite ELO song, one of my all time favourite songs ❤
Welcome to the wonderful music of my teens! Late 60’s and 70’s were absolutely insane as far as musical creativity.
of all the bands/groups I've listened to over the years, ELO I come back to. The sheer richness of their songs. Sheesh...
Amazing! Great reaction! One of the most beautiful songs.
I still have the old 45, a nice translucent green color. The flipside is "Poor boy", also worth a listen.
I had the old 45 of Fire on High in a nice, translucent purple. It was the B side, but I ended up listening to it more than the A side, Sweet Talking Woman. Lost to time now I'm afraid.
i really loved E.L.O right back from the 70,s just brilliant music.😊👍
Jeff Lynne, who for all intents and purposes IS ELO, produced several albums by Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr after the Beatles broke up. He was good friends with George and later formed the group The Traveling Wilburys with him, Tom Petty, Roy Orbison, Bob Dylan, and renowned session drummer, Jeff Keltner. You should check out "End of the Line" and "Handle with Care" by that group. Jeff Lynne is one of those fabulously talented musicians.
Jeff Lynne has often said ELO picks up where the Beatles left off, Lennon called them the Sons of the Beatles. Jeff Lynne also went on to produce for Paul, John, George and Ringo on their solo stuff. Jeff Lynne produced two unreleased Beatles songs that he helped finish with Paul, they are on UA-cam
Been there myself with this song, Harri. Don't know whether the tears are for the beauty or for the emotion! Thanks as always for an enjoyable reaction ❤.
Just discovered your channel and I'm so happy I did! Started off with your reaction to John Lennon's "Jealous Guy" then, as a huge ELO fan, immediately clicked this video after! I'm 32 and discovered ELO in my early 20s. I immediately fell in love with their dynamic blend of rock, disco, funk, and classical. I'm quite surprised you're just diving into their music. You get it though; ELO's heart and passion that comes through clearly in their vibrant sound. For me they are the natural successors to The Beatles in that they have strong roots to classic rock and roll while pushing the boundaries of what can be accomplished in the studio.
Keep up the great reactions! It's super fun grooving along with your videos!
✌❤🎶
I just discovered this song the last couple of years. if you listen to it you can get lost in it. and that's a damn good feeling.
Try all over the world with flash mobs, so incredibly joyous
One of my favorite ELO tunes. My absolute favorite is " Mr. Blue Sky ".
Wild West Hero.....ELO harmonies at their best
Jeff Lynne and Kelly Groucutt. Incredible harmonies on Wild West Hero!
Man, that telephone sound really gets to me. I'm sure anyone from that era can relate, calling a girl, listening to it ring and ring, no pickup, is she there? Is she gone? where did she go? Should I call back? What if somethings wrong? What if she needs help? What if somebody else is there? What if she went out, where did she go? Who did she go with .... all that runs through your mind on every ring.. no answering machines back then. just ringing ringing ringing.. Sometimes you had to put a coin in the telephone to call, every time you had to call, sometimes the damn phone would eat your coin, or you'd get disconnected and have to dig around for another coin. Oh the telephone, what device, as Waylon said, "sometime's it's heaven, sometime's its hell."
And Harri, sometimes we drive to a place, and my wife hops out of the car ready to hit the store, and I'm still sitting there with the engine on and the radio playing, and she'll open the door again and say, what's wrong? What's going on? why are you sitting there? And I point to the radio, and say, I have to listen to the rest of this song. And she get's that exasperated look on her face, she doesn't understand the gravitational pull the music has on me, I just can't pull away.
I love your reactions to music Harri, I think people that come here can definitely relate.
You can type in ELO in a search engine, pick a name of any random song that pops up, and react to that. You'll love it. This band never made a bad song.
My favorite line is "let it ring for ever more" In essence it means forever.
I love that you get it!
Truly beautiful. Jeff and the gang don't fart around. There's top shelf, and then there's this. Private Reserve.
❤
Sir, I have the same reaction to this song. Every time I hear it, my eyes well up because it's so beautiful.
Above The Clouds, Shangri-la, Standin' In The Rain, Big Wheels, Mr. Blue Sky, but certainly the complete Eldorado album are so worth investigating. And there is just so much more gorgeous material besides those. You brought this big, bige smile on my face with your reaction. This music is just happymaking everytime again and again.
Clearly you are a true ELO fan....your picks are spot on.
@@wpollock1 Out Of The Blue was the first record I ever bought, so yes the seed was planted...
I love the Eldorado album one of my all time favourites
More ELO! You can’t go wrong.
Hello Harri!! I've had the pleasure of loving Jeff Lynne/ELO for over 45 years now. (Hard to believe lol) So glad you have discovered them! Enjoy your journey!
A few of my favorites (among dozens, and dozens)
So Fine
Eldorado
Twilight
Turn to Stone
Shangri-la
You really can't go wrong with anyone's suggestions. Jeff is truly a musical genius. And i know that phrase gets thrown around a lot, but it's not hyperbole! 💕 Btw, your passion for the music, is a beautiful thing! 😄
Jeff Lynne co-produced “Free as a Bird” with the Beatles.
And he was a Traveling Wilbury with George Harrison and friends,
Despite Wikipedia's flawed report; Jeff Lynne didn't CO-PRODUCE it, he PRODUCED it. There would be no "Free As A Bird" or "Real Love" were it not for Jeff Lynne
@@leestockton9367 bang on
Jeff Lynne is the lead vocalist, principal song writer and legendary producer. He is great friends with George Harrison and Tom Petty and has written songs with them and produced their records.
This album, to me, is a warm summer night, just around dusk. My friend & I would lie on the floor in her parents living room and just listen to this album.
It's the melodies, the instrumentations, the brilliant orchestral arrangements by Louis Clark between 1974 and 1979 (who recently passed away) in the 'lavish years' of ELO, it's the vocals by Jeff Lynne and the perfectly matching backing vocals by Kelly Groucutt.
Jeff Lynne had the ability to bring it all together in beautifully written compositions that hit a nerve with so many music lovers.
Roughly there are three periods to distinct in the development of Jeff's songwriting and ELO's sound.
1971 - 1974 ELO / ELO 2 / On The Third Day / Eldorado ; where songs lean heavily on themes from both rock and classical music in a bit more rudimentary way
1975 - 1977 Face The Music / A New World Record (incl. this song "Telephone Line") / Out Of The Blue ; where the sound becomes increasingly more pop and lavish in orchestrations
1977 - 1983 + 2001 Discovery / Time / Secret Messages / Balance Of Power / Zoom ; when Jeff Lynne cuts out the big orchestrations, but manages to keep the effectiveness of great pop songs
During the eighties and nineties he did quite a few jobs as (co-)producer as well for renowned artists like George Harrison, Paul McCartney, Brian Wilson, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty and even Ringo Starr. Many ELO fans will recognize Jeff's signature sound in most of these albums/songs in a heartbeat.
And of course, there was this stint as Otis/Clayton Wilbury in The Traveling Wilburys, together with Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty and George Harrison.
I got see ELO in concert a couple years ago. Such a great time. You forget how many huge hits they had.
This is probably my favourite ELO track. I saw them in late 1980 about 2 weeks after John was murdered. They did a Beatles medley as a tribute and I can tell you they were spot on. I cried. I never really stopped crying for John and now I probably never will. It made a hole in my soul. ELO make the sun come out even on a gloomy day. Today is Sunday and I have been horribly unwell. Am feeling a tad better now (its 930pm). Music cures a lot of things or at least makes you feel something other than unwell. "Here is the News" is fantastic as is "Ticket to the Moon". So happy you found them Harri. x
I love Jeff Lynne & ELO since age 15 when Turn To Stone came on the radio. You seem to get to love them, too which is great to see. Try Shangri-La from the same album, the outro is literally out of this world.
And yes, Jeff's a fantastic singer, very very pleasant voice. Cheers from Germany.
Great reaction. Love the Beatles, loved ELO since I was 12. Check out some live stuff👍😀
Harri, don't know if you know this or not but in about 1995 the remaining Beatles were given a few old tunes John had put on cassette tapes. He hadn't completed them. Yoko gave them to Paul, and he and the boys went to work filling in with what they thought John might have done with it so, Free As A Bird was completed and released. Jeff Lynne (ELO) produced it. They wanted George Martin first but he could no longer do it because of his hearing loss. Whether you ever do a review of it or not, I urge you to watch the video...it is packed full of imagery from their entire career, songs and lines of songs. It is filmed from the point of view of a birdI flying around inside a house then out and about. The song is beautiful as well, actually one of my favorites. You never disappoint, Harri...when are you going to give us an address to mail you things you might find interesting and gifts to say thank you. Other reaction channels have done so at our request so don't feel bad. Usually they have an "unboxing" night and show the things the community has sent. Just a suggestion, it's your channel to do as you see fit. Thank you again, Harri. Namaste.
This is a masterpiece for sure. The lights go down and The rain is falling are pretty great to
One song that I thought was The Beatles back in the day, as a boy, is "One summers dream." It's pure Beatles to my ears.
Try listen to it, please. I love the fact that you love ELO. I do too. My FAV band. Subscribed, of course.
for me,when jeff sings the first words"hello..? how are you?" he puts in more feelings then justin bieber did in his whole life.
One of my all-time favorite songs in my top ten ever. There is also a great version of this Live From Wembley which you should check out. Also check out a tribute to George Harrison with Jeff Lynne, the lead singer of ELO, Tom Petty, Steve Winwood, George's son Dhani and Prince who has a smashing guitar solo, doing his epic song, While My Guitar Gently Weeps. You will absolutely love it, brother Harri!
It’s crazy when you see the live version to think Jeff Lynne is in his 70s. He never looked young and now he doesn’t look old, he is an enigma. His voice is still wonderful. A true talent
Yes to the Wembley version
ELO has a half dozen or so all time classics. This one is my favorite. Followed by MA Ma Ma Belle and Don't Bring Me Down I'm not the slightest bit surprised you enjoy ELO Hari, they're a great band. Cheers mate, RNB
ELO has a diverse style, but they all orbit their sound.
I sell vinyl records on line. I can tell you ELO are one of my top sellers. People still love these guys
From the same album , DO YA, is a must.
I read an article which said that John Lennon's favorite ELO song is Showdown.
The best music made in the 70s baby!!!
Love Jeff Lynne
Listen to George Harrison's "When We Was Fab". It's George singing about the Beatle days, and was co-written and produced by Jeff Lynne.
Great idea!
Loved ELO back in the day. Got my first van. 77 Dodge van living on Vashon Island Washington State Working at K-2 Ski corporation. Fun.
Jeff Lynne produced the 1996 Beatles records (using John's tapes). I still listen to this entire album to this day.
Yeah! Wild West Hero & The Diary of Horace Wimp & Twilight. Let the tears roll !!!
Midnight Blue is HAUNTING
Your reaction is so sweet! I appreciate that you don't pause to give your moment to moment thoughts like some other reaction youtubers do, and the way you groove is just infectious. You're also very good with words and conveying your thoughts :D Glad you love them, this is my favorite song from ELO so far!
Telephone Line is probably my favorite. Then "Don't Walk Away" (from Xanadu) and "Rockaria" . So many. Jeff Lynne is really talented. See the references to the Traveling Wilburys. He restarted George Harrison just prior to that with "I Got My Mind Set On You".
'Rock 'n' Roll Is King'
'Hold On Tight'
'Last Train To London'
'Confusion"
"Mr Blue Sky'
'Calling America'
'Sweet Talkin' Woman'
'I'm Alive'
One of the first albums I bought as a teen back in the day...like so many, I'm realizing how lucky I was :) Peace!
I've seen ELO live 2 times. Jeff Lynne is just flat out a genius musician. Period. Full stop. Now listen to Painted Lady off Eldorado.
Oh, man. Gotta do this song Live at Wembley!!!!!!!!
When I was a teenager, I'd play this record at twilight and just be in the moment.
Agreed;a joyful song. It always makes me think of an old love. Though we are no longer in touch,I can’t be sad.
With no cell phones, the operator cAme on to say there was no answer, Jeff asks for more time he would wait. Sad as hell. Great Song.
If you think this is beautiful (which for sure it is!) try a song or two by Jeff from his time in The Idle Race. Simpler songs, less instrument "overload", but oh man, the voice! Try _The Lady Who Said She Could Fly_ (1968 - Jeff was just 21!), or maybe _A Better Life (The Weatherman Knows)_ (1969).
Thank you for your channel it's a heart warming joy to see you react to hearing the absolutely wonderful music of E.L.O
Now you know why George Harrison, up until his death, continued to work with Jeff Lynne on projects such as The Travelling Wilburys etc, as they had the same sensibilities and sound if you like. Jeff along with Paul and George's son all played at Concert for George. Yes beautiful song
Wanna hear a song to make you cry, listen to "Big Wheels" on ELO's OUT OF THE BLUE album, which is the follow-up to A NEW WORLD RECORD. It's ELO at its best!
The pleasure goes on and on and on. Joyful, yes!❤. I'm the same way in the car, btw.
Jeff made the right decision in adding strings to the lineup it just gives songs that special touch instead of the plain old drums, guitars and keys........fan since this album in 76
Their song All Over The World is so cool.
