Isn’t it funny today when people first hear 70,s music the jaw drop because of how good it really was. Today with rap Taylor,Swift and the rest people think it was only disco. Really it was a great time for music then and I lived it in its glory. Thanks for bringing back the joy!!!!

Jeff Lynne was also in a Super Group called, The Traveling Wilburys. His bandmates included : Roy Orbison, George Harrison, Tom Petty, and Bob Dylan...yes, THAT Bob Dylan. Sadly, Dylan and Lynne are the only ones still with us.
On this song, Jeff Lynne recorded the telephone ringing on a transcontinental call for the special affects. He always does everything with mastery of sound.

Jeff Lynne (who was born in my home City of Birmingham, UK) is a fantastic musician and producer. E.L.O. have loads of great songs, my favourite being 'All Over The World' which is such a happy song. They sound just as good (if not better) live than they do on the studio versions.
I think you should do Don't Bring Me Down by ELO. It's an absolutely awesome song, and it will have you dancing. It was a very popular song back in the day in roller rinks. 😁😁

Oh ya, I remember back in the day, long distance calls went through the operator and she determined how many times it got to ring on the other end. E-L-O was am icon back in the day, easy listening rock, lights down low with your girl in your lap. I was 18 when that song came out. If we wanted to get our rock on, we'd kick up some Bob Segar, Deep Purple, Foghat, but you just couldn't beat chilling with E-L-O.

That’s cute that you love ELO …. I’m about to see them in all places Milwaukee in concert - ROAD TRIP with my 16 year old that looooves them. They are very unique. It’s great seeing a young man like you experiencing different music from the past. I was too young to enjoy it until I discovered them later on. I love ELO and I feel so privileged in their lifetime (and mine) that I get the opportunity to see them live in concert with my youngest daughter. I asked her what is your favourite ELO song and she said Tightrope … oh man you’re not joking that you like this band because that’s not necessarily a well known song by them. Perfect companion for this concert adventure. Btw I’m Australian not that that matters but we live in Canada - ROAD TRIP TO MILWAUKEE!!! I forgot all about ELO, been decades since I listened to them! One of my favorites back then. Went to a concert where they were the headliners. Meatloaf opened for them, then Peter Frampton performed. They got launched from a spaceship on stage what a concert. My oldest son broke me out of hospital twice to see ELO, once to see them in Hyde Park in 2014 and also to sit in a muddy field at Glastonbury in 2016. It was two different hospitals for two different injurie's at the end of my service career. It was always great to see Jeff Lynne's ELO live, even if it meant having to face my wife's anger afterwards. This song reminds me of how much I loved talking to my family when I was posted over seas.
The Wembley live performance of this is a must watch!! It gets blocked, but have seen in on Patreon.. amazingly beautiful!!

My first concert in 1978,Anaheim stadium, Journey (with a brand new Steve Perry) was one of the opening acts. A cloud of pot smoke, a flying spaceship, my favorite band still. I have worked as a stagehand for 25 years and have yet to work for Mr Lynne. Go back to the beginning, very unique sound and story telling. My name is Bicycle Bob and I approved this message.
This was one favorite bands of mine and my father from the 70's. We always heard them travelling to the south of Chile.

I was just now thinking about all the things you said in your reaction, about liking background vocals and just different Arrangements of instruments and mixing it up and trying different things, making it diverse. And I don't know how familiar you are with the beatles, who by the way heavily influenced Jeff Lynne of Elo in fact he worked with Paul McCartney on some stuff after the Beatles broke up, but that is the perfect band for you, it's a decade earlier in the 1960s and they changed from really simple live four-piece band driving stuff in the early 60s to being so Innovative and that's why they became iconic. Every song is different. Especially as you get into the middle and later. They broke up around 1970 so they had about a decade of stuff. And then they all had interesting solo careers after that. But I know you would just love them. And they have such a huge catalog and they're all different! If you don't like one try another one. It's just down the rabbit hole for sure. But they absolutely have all the qualities you were mentioning and there's a reason why they were such a huge name.
I have seen a lot of Beatles reactions and I can tell that for whatever reasons, they very often get blocked. And I know it can be frustrating. But on the other hand I've seen a ton of them. And then some reactors even without all that many followers managed to just do reaction after reaction without it ever being blocked. So who knows. I just know you'd love it. Pardon me if I'm preaching to the choir and you're already super familiar with them.
And again, I probably should have looked to see if there was a playlist, I came to this by your playlist for this band ironically. So oh wait a minute I did see, it seems like you had maybe two Beatles songs? Or one Beatles song and a feature or something. But anyway I was going to say you should also really really check out Elvis presley. His early stuff is great from the mid 50s when he's very very young and it's so old and he has three four piece with a vocal backing group called The Jordan airs which were fantastic and they are in so many recordings from back then and part of live performances but Elvis loved them and used them a lot. But later when you get into the around 1970 or so, he's got this huge huge band with two different vocal choirs and he arranges everything and he manages all this and they practice their asses off and then he does these live shows like at Vegas and it's got everything, tons of amazing backing vocals and so many instruments and it all just worked so well together because he was a brilliant arranger.

ELO is one of my favorite bands of the 70's. They were SO good and Jeff Lynne was such a creative perfectionist. He put out some great music through the 70's and well into the 80's. This is one of my favorites, but honestly, they had a TON of great songs that I still love to this day.
It is a must to see Jeff Lynn in concert. You will not be disappointed. Great light show too.

Now when you hear that song, it was back in the Analog Era. No Auto-Tune to get your vocals on-pitch. Want 8 harmony parts singing together? You're gonna have to perform it yourself, on-pitch, 8 times to get it on tape. That's not an effect added to create the sound of many-voices together, Jeff Lynne actually had to sing each part multiple times, then sing each harmony part multiple times. The dense sound of the voices & orchestra instruments were the pixie dust that got sprinkled on ELO's songs.

When you mentioned that you like songs with unusual choices of instruments, it made me think of "For Your Love" by The Yardbirds. It has harpsichord in it. Check it out.
If you dig into the "Concert For George" (Harrison, of the Beatles) you'll see and hear Jeff Lynne doing his thing. He's become an extension of the Beatles of sorts and was very close to George and his son Dhani Harrison.
Dip into The Traveling Willburys and you will find Jeff Lynne doing what he does best. He is a master at his craft. He can put together major talents, the epitome of rock and roll royalty.
