    Thanks Harri (and Cosmo). So glad you've finally reached 'Time', which despite being a UK #1 album, arrived when ELO's commercial peak had passed. I think out of all ELO's albums - this is the one that has matured the most. In fact I would say it is a largely undiscovered masterpiece. While it lacks some of hte band's trademarks (e.g. swapping strings for synths) Jeff's song writing is at his very best.
    It's superb listened to in one sitting but if you have to take it in small bites, try Twilight, Rain is Falling and Here is the News.

    I love the Time album, its a whole story, a love story about a man who is either flung into 2095 or he is dreaming it and just wants to get back to 1981 where his love is his wife or girlfriend. Great stuff. ELO are simply a magical group and Jeff Lynne is genius.

    There's an outtake track from the Time album called "When Time Stood Still" which, if you watch "Interstellar" it explains the reality of the time/space continuum; so the girl would never have made it as time stood still for him and moved on for her. There's another outtake song called "Julie Don't Live Here" which fits at the end of the album, the song title tells you all you need to know

    A very prophetic Jeff Lynne composition Harri as is the concept and prophetic "Time" album in its entirety. I loved it back in the 80s when it was released and love and appreciate it even more now with each and every listen. "Time" is/was not universally liked by E.L.O. aficionados due to the continuation in the evolution of the E.L.O. sound that strayed away from the sound of the 70s yet every track has Jeff's distinctive layering and subtlety that reveals itself with each and every listen. Thank you for your reaction. Paul :)

    The "Time" album was recorded in 1981, Jeff Lynne did away with ELO's string section after the "Discovery" album in 1979. Violinist Mik Kaminski was kept on for live performances when he played violin and sometimes Moog synthesiser on the stage. Jeff Lynne decided that the two cellists, Hugh McDowell and Melvyn Gale were no longer required.

    It does sound different than the '70s stuff you've listened to before. This is '80s ELO. The band was reduced to a 4 piece, no more violin or cello players, and more reliance on synths. They did cool stuff in the '80s but for me the '70s formula was their best. Even in recent years Jeff made a comeback to his classic sound with new material, still can't beat the '70s. The concerts though are awesome.

    This album was rumored to be a double album but the record company chopped it up into a single. Each song blends into the next song without any gap (or it did before it was downsized). There are theories of what the missing songs are and where they were to be on the album. One of those songs is "Julie don't live here [anymore]" Julie was the time travelers girl. You can find the song on youtube.

    This album was a change-up for ELO, it took time to grow on me, I missed the strings on some songs. Good concept album though, a real grower. Their last 2 "Secret Messages" and "Balance of Power" weren't as good in my opinion.

    • @lhpl
      @lhpl 2 роки тому +1

      For me it was quite the opposite, probably because Time was the first ELO album I heard beginning to end, uninterrupted, back in 81. (I had probably heard some other songs on the radio before, but didn't have any idea about the group then.) It resonated in my mind immediately. I then bought two albums on cassette, Greatest Hits and On The Third Day, expecting something similar. Of course it was very different, in particular OTTD, but I loved it all the same, and was amazed by the diversity.

Placing it at the end where you moved it to does no good. I didn't prepare it to promote my interpretation of the song, I prepared it for YOU, and for any viewers who are not familiar with the song or album, so that you guys would have the context you needed to understand and fully appreciate the song. If you don't like the silence at the beginning while my page or two of copy is on the screen, no worries, then I suggest you read along out loud what I've written. It only takes 20 - 40 seconds. @@HarriBestReactions Sure, let me explain. You led into my 2-pages of copy at the end of the video by saying, "As a bonus, here is Cosmo's interpretation of the song." Well, it's not my interpretation of the song, it's Jeff Lynne's interpretation of the song. And so what I was saying in my previous reply was that I didn't prepare it as a means to promote (in other words, share) my interpretation just for the sake of letting folks know what I thought the song was about. No, not at all. I researched Jeff Lynne's commentary on the song, so that I could present it to you up front, Harri, given you have no familiarity with the song or the concept album from which it came. And also for your viewers who are similarly unfamiliar with it. And this is what Bruce is talking about above--that the song NEEDS context in order to understand it and fully appreciate it. I did it so you would have the context you needed to give the song a proper reaction. Not all songs require such context. But this one did. Does that make sense now?
