Jeff Lynne is the lead singer and songwriter on all ELO tracks
Also Travelin Wilburys
It was Roy Wood when they started out 😁
Another earworm 😂😂
@@AlanF0011 on the first album, Jeff, and Roy shared songwriting, and lead vocal duties. Jeff wrote 5 of the 9 tracks, Roy 4, with each singing lead on their respective tunes 💕
@@Leftylobber😊
Good chance that many younger people won't understand those sound effects simulating actual dial tones and number inputs. Not to mention that people were anchored to their physical home to make and receive calls.
Nothing sadder that an unanswered phone when you were trying to make contact with that special person.
I'm an Englishman of the age of 70..grew up in the greatest era ever for music.. Beatles.Kinks.etc...but Jeff Lynne took the 60s music into a new era..A genius..wrote all ELOSmusic..produced them all..sang them all
I love Lennon McCartney..they started all that we now listen to...Jeff took their music further on..he is undoubtedly the greatest songwriter..producer ever...
You can just hear his desperation when he sings “Ok…so no one’s answering…”.
Thanks for the reaction. Jeff Lynne, the lead singer/songwriter, producer and guiding light of ELO, also did a lot as part of The Traveling Wilburies. He was the first lead vocal on the TW song you did yesterday. He produced and arranged them also. And he is *the* lead vocalist for ELO. You’ll eventually get it, I’m sure. Another 50-100 songs of ELO 😊
And also co produced George Harrison’s Cloud 9 and Brainwashed not to mention Roy Orbisons solo lp and Tom Patty’s solo Full Moon Fever.
And he co-wrote and produced the Petty song they did today.
Yes, Jeff Lynne from the Erdington area of my home city Birmingham, England, the UK's second largest city. Most Brummies (as we're nicknamed by the rest of the UK), are very proud of Jeff and Bev Bevan (ELO's former drummer), who comes from my area of the city.
He also produced the two Beatles songs from the 90's, Real Love and Free as a Bird.
I bought a ELO Greatest Hits cassette in the late 70s and WORE it out in my old 71 Plymouth Roadrunner.
Only one lead singer, he also writes and composes all the music. He is also a producer and produces and writes music for others, like George Harrison and Tom Petty when they were alive. Jeff Lynne is amazing. He might have been the gel that got the Travelling Willbury's together. :) Great reaction and thanks for sharing. Chris
Jeff Lynne is a genius.
Right. And I feel they missed it when he did the first lead vocal in the Traveling Wilburies song they did yesterday. They acknowledged everyone but him! He was the producer and probably the main reason the TW got together.
The other guitarist sang a few songs, but 90% Jeff on lead vocals.
If there is a MT. Rushmore for music Jeff Lynne should be on it.
I think Jeff Lynne is highly underrated. He was kind of anonymous for awhile in ELO. When I’ve seen some reactors to the Traveling Wilburys they recognize the other four but not always Jeff.
Jeff Lynne was just recently inducted to the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Well-deserved honor and recognition considering the hits he has written and co-written for so many musicians.
COOL!! I didn't know that😃😎
Don't forget his efforts for the production and engineering either (i.e., for The Beatles)
Wrote alot of the Travelling Wilbury's stuff too.
The line Jeff sings after [Ok. No one is answering, let it ring a little longer]....."let it ring forever more". I love the emotion that it stirs up; the desperation to be able to talk to her once again. ELO has an amazing catalog of music. You can't go wrong with them. Have a great weekend.
One of the most bittersweet lyrics ever written
With you on that
40+ years later, still relevant.
@@barba7521 So much bittersweet angst in the line "...let it ring forever more" you just don't know until you've lived through losing someone tragically.
I've called someone's line just to hear their voicemail before.
...just to "...let it ring forever more".
Thanks for all the ELO reactions! 'Can't Get It Out of My Head' and 'Shine A Little Love' are good songs, as well.
"Can't Get It Out Of My Head" and "It's A Living Thing" are my favorite ELO songs.
My favorite is "Last Train to London". An Argentinian rapper just sampled the beginning riff:
DUKI - Ultimo Tren a Ameri
ua-cam.com/video/Rpq1KQ7Tp1g/v-deo.html
Can’t Get It Out Of My Head definitely. Shine A Little Love not so much for me. The Discovery album that it’s from was not one of my favorites because it didn’t really sound like ELO with its disco style songs. I didn’t hate disco but it didn’t seem right for ELO.
However A New World Récord that Telephone Line is from is probably my favorite ELO album. The last song Shangri-La is great.
@@pjg58x You’re right, Shine a Little Love was definitely not their best, but not their worst either. Can’t Get It Out of My Head, Strange Magic and Showdown are the ones I like best.
@@RobertoSantana61 When I first heard that first song I thought it was a John Lennon song. Remember, Jeff Lynne said he Idolized John Lennon.
Probably my personal favourite ELO song! The telephone sound effects were very innovative for the time and Jeff Lynne's voice is terrific here. Great pick guys!
Gives me chills everytime. I've been in a few long distance relationships in my life. I guess that's why this song has always affected me.
Mine, too! Love the orchestral track blended with the doo wop lyrics--outstanding!
Living through the 60s and 70s, we had some interesting telephone experiences. We were on a party line for a while. Basically, we shared a phone line with at least one other household(please don't listen, right?). Rotary dials and everything. Wrote down or memorized your friends phone number. Sometimes, voices sounded like that. I'm so glad I lived through that time period, musically, and everything else. Great reaction. As usual.
For another outstanding "phone-in" vocal, check out Days Of Pearly Spencer, by David McWilliams, first released 1968. Uniquely unforgettable song.
In terms of an ELO 'telephone' song, my favourite is "Calling America" but I love this one too. In fact I just love ELO - "Here is the News", "Twilight", "State of Mind", "Rockaria!" - there are so many great songs.
JEFF LYNNE is the singer and songwriter ...hes a LEGEND
Billy Madison....😂
This song released in 1976 - I was twenty five and loving life with my little wifey and two little kids...When I hear songs like this - from that era of my own life - I can see the clothes I wore, the smells I smelled , the voices of family, co-workers, neighbors. It is truly a trip down memory lane. A busy life is a happy life because you just don't have time to think about whether or not you're happy. And now 47 years have gone by seemingly in a flash. The paradoxical nature of aging - in youth I got so very much done in a day - today it seems to take all day to accomplish one thing. Go figure. While listening to the song in this video I briefly relived days, times long gone by...I miss them like I miss my youth - but I am happy for having lived them.
I feel just as you do.
This song, live at Wembley Stadium is my favorite. The light show is amazing and the strings so beautiful. Then you have the couples in the crowd dancing and remembering there youth while listening to the music play on ❤️ It fills my heart.
We watched that one and enjoyed it very much, we were singing along to those song like everyone else in the stadium! Jay and Amber must see that, but they also need to react to more ELO to become familiar with the songs ELO performs at Wembley Stadium!
Agree, agree, agree! It's so beautiful! I hope they'll look that video up just for their own enjoyment ❤
Oh my gosh that Wembley Stadium show!! I streamed it and it’s still one of the best concerts I’ve ever seen 😍
Telephone Line Live at Wembley really shows how great ELO is live.
Definitely true...a live masterpiece
Jeff Lynne is a musical genius.
Jay& Amber we older people are counting on you to bring back these tunes. Love the reactions you have.
I’ve been listening to this song for more than 40 years. It still captivates me. ELO is an amazing band. Mr. Blue Sky, Can’t Get It Out Of My Head, Turn to Stone, Livin’ Thing, Sweet Talkin’ Woman, Do Ya, Evil Woman, and many more. They have an incredible catalog.
A New World Record. One of their best records. Only , Out Of The Blue surpasses it. This album is classic.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ my favorite band of all time❤️❤️❤️❤️
Jeff Lynne is THE lead singer for ELO. He's also one of the Willbury's! MASSIVELY underrated vocalist and a true musical genius!
The lyric, “I’ll just sit tight, through shadows of the night…” which implies he’s been sitting in one spot all night is hauntingly beautiful.
my daughter's favorite electric light orchestra song. she loves the line... let it ring forever more.
I'm not a fan of live performances, but this song live at Wembly Stadium is EPIC!
How did it not hit number 1 ?
Do you go to concerts?
@@jacksprat418-ju5qo There is a huge difference between going to a live concert, and hearing a live recording. Watching the musicians perform is worth a lot and makes up for what may be an inferior recording. For a first time hearing and an opinion, the official video gives the reviewer a sense of what the artist wanted to present.
@@jacksprat418-ju5qo You're a real genius. I know those are my words... because I typed them. Any other words of wisdom you feel I should know?
yes!!!
My favorite ELO song♥️♥️
That’s Bev Bevan on the drums, a massively underrated rock drummer. Brilliant.
One of the few songs I never want it to stop. Genius
You need to watch the live at Wembley performance of this song. It’s so good and very touching as the crowd is smiling, crying and dancing together. I am in my 50’s and it takes me back to my childhood and chokes me up every time I watch it.
All Over The World is another great song. I’ve always liked their sound. Brings back a lot of childhood memories
From Xanadu, isn’t it?
Yes, it was. They had several great songs in that movie!
Best song for New Year's Eve, too! No way you can listen to that song and not dance.
Amber, My Gawd, you ARE a 70s woman through and through! Sometimes persons are born in the wrong decade..you ARE that person...you deserved to grow up in the 70s listening to our incredible diversity of music..so many INCREDIBLE bands! BEST DECADE OF MUSIC EVER!
MUSIC FROM THE 70S WAS FANTASTIC
One of the few singers who sounds just as good live. Even in his 70s, Jeff Lynne's voice is amazing. Live at Wembley Stadium will knock you out.
Listening to this, you have to remember phones were attached to walls by literal telephone lines. I also believe this was pre-answering machines. Collect calls, having to time your phone calls depending on when the rate changed. Back then making phone calls were more complex, today it is always in your pocket.
This song takes me back to my childhood. So many Summer memories with this song. Thanks for reacting!
Mine too. I was 10 when this came out...
Me too !! I am 59 years old but at 13 years old I skated every weekend to this song......I truly believe we had the BEST music ever growing up.
Mine too!
Nothing more i can add to what has already been said here. ELO was a major part of my 70s teen years. Sitting in my bedroom doing homework listening to different ELO albums. To me JL and ELO were close to perfection 😊❤ thanks Jay and Amber for another great reaction
Jeff Lynne's a genius! Such a heartbreaking song, he's just trying to phone his special someone to tell them how much he cares, but they can't, or won't, answer. The string arrangement with all the sweeps is just perfect.
The dial tone is the ISD tone between Britain and the USA number. If I remember correctly off A New World Record, the name inspired by the Moscow Olympics. It would play every Friday night at the Elephant and Castle pub in Sussex St, Sydney. Shit they were great times!!!
L-O-V-E ELO!! 👍This song is such a classic! Now you know why we love them...they're SO good!!! This song not only shines a light on Jeff Lynn's writing skills, but also his awesome voice & the band's musicianship. They're so unique.
"Telephone Line" peaked @ #7 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1977. It was ELO's 11th single to chart, their 3rd Top 10 hit.
Love anything from ELO takes me back to my childhood. 52 now and remember my parents listening to them. Love them!
I've been an E.L.O. fan for going on 50 years and still love them. This one is definitely one of their most beautiful tunes. I'm gonna say it again, please listen to "Eldorado" (overture) and "Can't Get It Out Of My Head". They go back to back and that's the way to listen to them. Just please do the studio, not any live version. It's too bad you guys never got to see them in person, what a show.
Completely agree - I saw them at Wembley Arena in 1983 - what a fantastic show. The music is timeless and Jeff Lynne is such a musical genius.
In my opinion, one of the best break-up songs of the 70's. 😎
YES!!! I've been waiting a long time for this one!!! This may be their best song, although they have a ton of great tunes.
Jeff Lynne is one of the most talented singer/song writer/producers. My grandson asked me what he did for a real job. I about died laughing. Kids are awesome. He was 8 and he loves Jeff Lynne. He's 13 now.
Oh my god this just brings me back to when I was 11 years old and listening to ELO for the first time. You don’t realize how unusual and new this band was and what they were doing. And Jeff Lynne his voice is just it’s like one of the best vocalist I’ve ever heard and his emotions come through so beautifully ..thank you for covering this song
💯
Me 2
Those sweet, sweet ELO harmonies can't be beat. What a time to be alive that was! They don't write em like that anymore
Because we have cellphones now (kidding)
Imagine being introduced to ELO during 7th Grade. Amazing music. Beyond cool!😎
Fourth grade. Fall of '75. "Evil Woman", blaring through my bedroom wall one Saturday morning. Woke me up! lol Big sis in the adjacent bedroom had just bought her first ELO album, Face The Music. My favorite band ever since.
Fifth grade here, been hooked ever since
Around the same for me - was UK Year 7 (11-12) with Xanadu (then Discovery) for me but the one that blew my mind was the "Time" concept album (I was 13-14 in UK Year 9). I played that to death - especially "Here is the News" which appealed to teenage angst for some reason! Was into the Asia supergroup as well at the time (had the logo on my denim jacket). If you're feeling piss3d with your parents, "My Own Time (I'll do what I want)" is a great track to play! (ua-cam.com/video/xZX44KEYw-w/v-deo.html) 🥰
@@joannecunliffe8067 Joanne, I'm gonna guess that another song from that same era which appealed to your adolescent angst was, *"Subdivisions",* by Rush. Am I right?
@@Cosmo-Kramer Oh, absolutely! I'm a massive Rush and prog-rock fan. Was introduced to Rush in UK Year 6 (10-11) which was 1977-78 for me (yeah I'm that old!) + Deep Purple + Rainbow + Magnum + lots more heavy metal/rock in the same year! Mum and Dad thought I'd turned into an insane wild-child! I just love decent music 🥰. I love rocking Rush tracks like "Fly by Night", "Limelight", "Working Man" and "By-Tor and the Snow Dog". Maybe surprisingly my favourites are the quieter ones like "Time Stand Still", "Tears", "Rivendell" and "Closer to the Heart". Also also love epic prog rock tracks like "Xanadu", "The Necromancer", "Hemispheres" and of course "2112". I'd play a LOUD track like "AC/DC" - "Highway to Hell" or "Magnum" - "Steal Your Heart" to annoy parents. I'm good at electronics and built my own class AA amp (REAL 150W/channel - 8" woofers - capable of handling 250W) as a teenager. I used to wait until parents were out then shook my windows! My electric guitar sounded brilliant through it ♥. How about you? What do you like?
You've done three songs of this album now...Livin' thing, Tightrope and now Telephone line...Wait til you hear Shangri la.....Especially the end....
So glad that the GREATNESS of ELO is now being re-recognized through UA-cam!
HI, GUYS!! Jeff Lynne was in the video you watched with The Traveling Wilburys!! Predominate members of the Wilburys: Jeff Lynne, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty, George Harrison, & Bob Dylan. I think, after George passed away, his son, Dahni Harrison also sang with them. Jeff Lynne is an EXTREMELY talented person, as well as all the members of ELO!! GREAT RABBIT HOLE to go down! Hope ya'll are having a GREAT WEEK! HUGS!! j* ❤❤❤❤❤
They dont answer or read the comments.
They record and leave it be.
Awesome, so glad you guys are doing ELO again! Next for them you might like their song "Can't Get it Out Of My Head". It's an early song of theirs from 1974. But, it will show you yet another vibe from them.
Jeff Lynne is an amazing talent, doesn't get the recognition he deserves.
ELO, were so way ahead of their time!! There is just no other like them. The music still holds up today, it's just timeless. 👍🍀
When this song came out I was in an LDR, serving in the army.
We were living on this song.
I married that girl 33 years ago.
❤
This is one of my favorite songs. Captures the feeling of longing and loneliness so perfectly and Lynne and the rest of the band are outstanding. Good lord that ringing phone into the void, who hasn't been there?
I was about 12-14 years of age in the mid 70's when ELO started to make waves. It hit me like a bomb. I've never heard anything like it . AND rock/pop music with a very strong string section...unheard of. They have aged really well in my opinion
The Beatles considered ELO to be one of the best bands in the world!
I am so thankful for my mother particularly for my love of ELO. The fact that at 26 I can sing along and listen with you and get to appreciate it even more all over again through your ears and thoughts. Thank you!
“Can’t Get it out of my Head” and “Fire on High” are my favorites by ELO.
You can't go wrong with ELO. My fave by them is "Don't Bring Me Down" and "Turn To Stone". Thanks for reacting to this!!
Blue eyed soul
Doo wop meets 70 s orchestration.
Jeff Lynn, musical genius ,
I'll say it again, Jeff Lynn , musical genius.
ELO is one of the best AM radio classic bands.....also like Strange Magic, Long Black Road and Showdown. ❤🫶🫶😉
Be still my teenage heart. Those feelings were the real deal. Love this song. Thanks for the reaction!
Being a metal fan I can honestly say that ELO are one of the best bands ever, and still sound great in concert, saw them at Wembley, Jeff Lynne is a one in million, if you look at his song writing catalogue, and who he has produced its just a who's who of rock & pop history.
“Light” singular. It’s a pun (and quite a clever one). A “Light Orchestra” was a term used in some English speaking countries for a musical ensemble that wasn’t the size of a full orchestra and which tended to play “light” classics ( and eg film theme music). ELO were famous for their use of a string quartet as part of their sound (eg “Rockaria”) and of course “Electric” puns well with “Light Orchestra” and produces a literally accurate description of the sound. Jeff Lynne must like puns (and maybe classical music references), the album that both “Telephone Line” and “Rockaria” was taken from was called “A New World Record” - see what he did there?
Their “Fire on High” is amazing.
Jeff Lynne is such a legend. He is always coming with the bangers🔥
Can't get it out of my head is also an awesome song by ELO
He also finally got a star on the Hollywood walk of Fame
'A New World Record' is such a classic album from beginning to end.
Absolutely
Standin' in the Rain, it's a lesser-known masterpiece.
Out of the Blue. No bad songs. Wild West Hero.
@@gooch0607 Agreed. A double album with no padding. Jeff Lynne is a musical genius.
Bev Bevan, the drummer, has a rich rock history and is highly regarded. He definitely is the sole drummer. He was the perfect fit such an eclectic band.
FYI, it's Electric LIGHT Orchestra. They are just amazing!
I saw ELO in concert in the late 1970s with The Little River Band as the opening band. My main reason for going was LRB & they did not disappoint. ELO showed up playing their great music on stage in a giant spaceship. The light show and visuals were superb and the huge white spaceship unbelievable. I have seen The Who, Michael Jackson, Prince, George Clinton, Parliament Funkadelic, Pink Floyd & Queen... - none had the "show" that ELO did that night.
Earth Wind & Fire put on a Great Show..the giant pyramid and the elevator tubes…and of course Pink’s The Wall tour was pretty incredible
When I was little I used to sneak into my brother's room when he wasn't home to play his records. This album was one of the first that I discovered and I became OBSESSED with this song.
Guys ELO is essentially one man, Jeff Lynne. He writes everything, he ALWAYS is the singer and at least up to demo stage, plays EVERY INSTRUMENT YOU HEAR! It's genuinely unfathomable how talented that man truly is.
Every time I hear ELO I am instantly transported right back to being really little and staying up too late with my Dad while my Mum worked and listened to his records. I still remember the first time my Dad put his mahoosive headphones on my head and I heard ELO swirling around my head and the stunning feelings of the sound panning left and right from ear to ear making the absolute most of this fancy new Dolby stereo thing lol yeah I'm that old lol, but hey, 45 years and counting and that memory is as clear and powerful as if it happened yesterday, even though what actually did happen yesterday can be a bit fuzzy 😆 Music like this is so powerful like that so do me a favour guys and make memories like that with your little ones, it's as special as it can get and it will last a lifetime 😃❤😃
Jeff doesn’t play EVERY instrument on any full band album during the 70’s and 80’s and it’s rather disingenuous to the other members of the band to suggest he did. Yes, he was the driving force and producer of ELO but credit must be given to the other six members on this album band and Louis Clark who arranged and conducted the orchestra and choirs.
It's a dad thing 😅 it reminds me of my family driving to Scotland on holiday in a a brown Scimitar with a New World Record in the tape deck ❤
Love-love-love!!!! I wore this song out on vinyl. ELO is just amazing!!
Yup. Back in the day, the telephone was all we had. So, yeah, our telephone line was our life line. Blessings and peace. 😊
Electric Light Orchestra is my favorite band of all-time.
You should listen to all of their albums chronologically. I worship at the musical altar of Jeff Lynne.
Give the track “Hello My Old Friend” from the Secret Messages album (originally a B-side but restored to the album on remasters since 2014) a listen. It’s an experience. Every track is, but that one always has stood out to me, even beyond their singles / radio hits.
I could rant for hours about ELO and Jeff Lynne. I’m happy you seem to enjoy them!
Yes!! To ten ELO songs for me- such an experience !
This song reminds me of my late big sister, can't hear it without crying, it was always on the radio when she'd be putting on her makeup getting ready for a date and I'd lay on her bed begging her not to go cuz I'd miss her. ELO is really something so special and had so much to do with a lot of the music in Xanadu which you both liked and mentioned you have to react to the movie... been waiting for that one. 😃
Jeff Lynne. Immeasurable talent. The 5th Beatle.
Living Thing, Mr.Blue Sky, Don’t bring me down & just about every song they have is AWESOME...
PRINCE AND THE LEAD Singer OF ELO did a awesome version of as my guitar gently weeps
a must see
ELO was so ahead of the curve in the '70's. They have an amazing greatest hits collection.
I watch a lot of reaction channels, and I consider yours the best of them. You are Genuinely immersed, interested and not forever stopping multiple times through the tracks. Power to you both. Greetings from the UK. Alan.👌
All Over The World or Shine A Little Love should definitely be your next reactions! (Although I would also say to listen to this full album- many consider it their best!)
Thanks for the upload- always love an ELO reaction from you two! (And btw- Jeff Lynne is the singer for ELO- one of the greatest singers of all time)
This is my favorite song of theirs
This is my favorite ELO song. Flooded with memories right now. RIP Richard Tandy. 😪
They actually recorded a phone call fron the UK to the US to get the long distance sound, and used a vocoder (converts your voice into a signal that goes through a synthesizer) to mimic the sound. High tech for the 70's
Living in twilight . Hello How are you? Have you been alright? ELO is amazing -
ALL OVER THE WORLD.
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne (E.L.O., Traveling Wilburys), Steve Windwood (Traffic, Blind Faith), Dhani Harrison (George's son) and the Purple One himself PRINCE. They cover George Harrison's (The Beatles) "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". Prince's guitar solo is a masterpiece! Jay and Amber, you must listen to one. You got to give the people what they want!
"Blue eyed soul..." I love it!
The ringing phone was an actual recording of Jeff (or someone in the studio) calling the United States from abroad. Good thing no one answered! lol
You should see the live version from Wembley Stadium!!! UNBELIEVABLE!!!🎵🎼🎶🎤🎸🎙🥁🎹🔥🔥💜💜
This is my wife & I favorite song. We both grew up and dated when instant access wasn’t even a consideration like today. It could be heart wrenching when you couldn’t contact your love. We randomly and regularly pull it up on UA-cam and play for each other. Think it’s time to do it again. She needs a pick me up trying to recover from cancer treatments. We’ve been married 39 years.
ELO is Jeff Lynne. Singer, writer and producer who was also a central member of the Travelling Wilburys.
Jeff Lynne is the only lead singer and songwriter in ELO, so glad you got back to some ELO
This is one of my favorite songs … ever !!! ❤️
Mine too!
You’ll have to watch the live version of this at Wembley stadium, one of the most amazing

Absolutely!

Jeff Lynne is a genius! Not just ELO but has produced to just about everybody, even The Beatles!!
One of the great bands from my childhood. ELO was so amazing.
Thanks for more ELO,guys-- Jeff Lynn always sings lead,as well as wrote most all the material. He's a huge muso who went on to be a very in demand producer,as well as one of the Trtavelling Wilburys supergroup. Cheers, T
Great song! Reminds me of Operator by Jim Croce...only because of the meaning (as I hear it).
You need to get the DVD of their concert at Wembly Stadium and see them do it all LIVE!!
