Sorry off topic but I bought one of your alternators and I have the same year Chevy Silverado as you 2008 5.3
I was wondering if you remember what size belt or number belt you have for it and then the second question is what harness do I need to add a volt I have 16 volt Ahmed batteries thanks for your content

      Bottom of FAQ section:
      www.mechman.com/faqs/
A 16 volt battery realistically needs to charge in the 19 or so volt range. At that point you just need to go external regulator.

My 370amp unit which I installed on my 2012 Silverado 3:59 6.6 Duramax, has the opposite problem.
It's been overcharging for about one to two minutes each time I would restart it once it's warm. The voltage would climb into the 16 and even 17 volt area for brief periods , before settling back to around 14.v
It did this for 12 months and I only fitted it in late 2020.
I've removed it and replaced with a standard alternator.
Is there a replacement regulator that I can purchase and self fit?
I'm in Australia so it's not practical to return it to you.

Please also keep in mind the higher voltage you run, the HARDER it is to turn the alternator. I only bring this up due to the "racing" word you used and most trying to keep parasitic drag to a minimum in those situations.

Is there any way to set a specific voltage level regardless of the alt temperature? Say i want 16v to charge a C max. I don't want it to ever charge higher or lower than 16v. Would I need some type of computer based regulator to maintain an exact output?

    • @mechmanalternators

Not gonna happen. Its the physics of electronics. It's like trying to keep 32psi in your tires all year round and no matter how drive.

    • @mechmanalternators
      @mechmanalternators  Рік тому

I don't mention it as that is what the FAQ and product descriptions on www.mechman.com are for. However, 99% of our available part numbers are true hairpin 6 phase units. We have 3 units that are entry level GM style that use upgraded internals with an overdrive pulley but still follow the 3-phase foundation.
They will make around the same output at top end as a hairpin 250 amp but will be down appx. 30-30 amps at vehicle idle RPM's. Great for the daily driver guys with around 2500w audio setups.

It still wouldn't matter bout voltage. If you had one at 15 volts and one at 14 volts. I was running 3 alternators on my truck at one time. One uplugged 2pin, (13.4 volts), a 4pin (14.7 volts) and a "modified something running at 15.4 volts.
If you want to test individually then just put a meter on each alternator instead of the ONE battery.

I mean, it's TWELVE THOUSAND PLUS watts being generated. Your 320 amp alternator is only doing around 140 amps at idle if small case and around 200 if large case.
