I'm equally impressed with your ability to tune your drums to sound like what Bill used on this song. Especially how your high bongo sounds like a timbale.
Great cover, watching bills drumline deconstructed like that is amazing. Always loved this track, being able to write something as bizarre and interesting as this really speaks on how incredible this era of KC was.
this is really cool! I made a piano cover of the song years ago and could never figure out the exact drums in the recording, hence I used the original recording as a back up. Seeing this now I can really see how interesting the drumming is with the constant beats on the little toms, also how the snare is adding another polymeter rhythm on top of the already circulating guitars. Well done!!
Excellent job! The sound of Bruford's Tama bell brass snare on this song is what made me want to get one. I don't think a snare has ever sounded better than Bill playing it on this album.
This was completely outstanding, every second. Even the part where you had to turn the page, you handled with total aplomb; if anything it made it all even more impressive. If you take suggestions, I bet you'd get a real kick out of the drums on "The Deadly Rhythm" by Refused.
Nice work. Thanks for paying homage to a great drummer in a great band playing a great song. You are forgiven for not dropping out the continuous quarter note kick in the short section where the key changes and BB only plays kick on the down beat before switching back to continuous quarters. It breaks the repetitive tension and heightens the feel of transition and expectation. Bruford does that commonly in songs where there's a steady quarter note pulse on the kick, as sometimes taking a note out is as dynamic as adding one. Either way, thanks for sharing a truly hypnotic and meditative piece of music and treating us to a very "disciplined" performance.
@@tomwaydrums If you listen to the original recording, posted on YT from the King Crimson site, listen carefully and you'll notice that Bill takes out exactly two quarter note kicks at 4:11 and 4:12 shortly after a key change, to the effect that I stated earlier. It's clearly intentional and to perfect effect.
@@rembeadgc Aha! Originally thought you meant the key change in the first half, and yep you are correct on the above. Both myself and Oscar J who scored the drum part missed this (not to take away from his excellent work on it), well noticed 😆👍
Thanks! There's some info about this on Bill's website, it might actually be 'dragon drums' he's using on this album but in all live footage from that era it looks like he's using octabans
It changes around a bit but the main part is a phrase of 17/16 over quarter notes on the bass drum (there's a link to the drum score I used for this in the vid description above)

Cheers man! Got lucky with the bongos pitch, haven't tuned them in years 😆
@@tomwaydrums what bongos are these?
@@Chamberswaang Don't even know sorry!
@@tomwaydrums "Got lucky with the bongos pitch"
Shhhhh, never reveal your secrets!
"Don't even know sorry!"
That's more like it!
Perfect!! You’re just the kind of drummer I love, conservative, educated and extremely talented! Sounded just like the album, note for note.
conservative drumming on progressive rock

I've known this song like the back of my hand since the album was released and you just completely nailed it! Truly impressed. 👍🏻🔥
man, learning this must've required a lot of discipline!
I don't get it.
In fact dude
Excellent drumming, Dr. Buford would be proud.
Awesome! Bill Bruford isn't an easy drummer to imitate.

Man, the break has always been such a classic minimalist payoff.
So well done!
Just wow!
Chefs Kiss! Tuning of the bongo's, not missing a beat while turning the sheet music page. Nice!
Incredible! Well done!
We’ll done! That was awesome, getting all those snare hits in the right places. I really enjoyed that!

Great skills!

Thanks appreciated! But listen closely to the recording, the bass drum is still there on every quarter 😉
@@tomwaydrums Ah, a friendly challenge! I will put my magnifying ears on and give it a re--listening.

@@tomwaydrums Sure. You and Oscar J did an excellent job of showcasing an excellent drummer playing an excellent pattern.
Good work!! Keep up!! ;-)

Great job kiddo!
👏👏👏
YES!!!
Nice

Came to the commemts to read the Elephant Talk!
Cool song 🗿
Did you chart it yourself ? Great job
Cheers! It was charted by Oscar J who did an excellent job on it (link at bottom of description)
Nice syncopation
what time signature you are playing in please?
It changes around a bit but the main part is a phrase of 17/16 over quarter notes on the bass drum (there's a link to the drum score I used for this in the vid description above)
the script in pdf???😉...thanks
Link in description!
What’s the meter?
The main phrase is in 17/16 over a quarter note pulse (so 68/4 in total?), then the meter changes around as it goes on, score link in description 👍
Is this in 9/13 or 12/7?
17/16 at the start, changes a fair bit throughout (score link in description)
Square root 2 over pi
Ok no where’s indiscipline
WOW! freaking awesome!
Great!
