@@EloyGijon67 Maybe you missed it, but it turns out that there’s a 1000-year-long tradition of arranging and performing other people’s compositions. It’s commonly called “classical music. Boy, what a waste of time that was according to Eloy.
@@EloyGijon67you really had to say that on an 8 year old comment? lol if this is so easy and deserves no praise or recognition, let’s see your cover, or any cover for that matter. Do literally anything remotely worthy of being on such a high horse about other peoples’ talent.
This took a lot of discipline. I mostly get bogged down in indiscipline. I end up playing little games with this video. Like not watching it for days and days .. and then... Watching it. To see if I still liked it.... I DID!!!

Great Job! I played a similar arrangement back in the last century for my percussion bachelor degree concert, being the crimhead that I am. The committee was not very pleased with it as "the piece lacked expression". Since then I played it in several different contexts (even one in front of Robert Fripp) and the piece never ceases to move me.
I bet those who said "the piece lacked expression" would have fallen all over themselves had you adapted a work by Philip Glass. I love Glass, but "expression" is not a comment often heard about much of his oeuvre.
I saw the Discipline line up perform at Palais Montcalm, Québec City in (?) 1982 a few days after the album came out. Had no idea what I was in for. Came out with my musical stars completely realigned. You nail the musical math extremely well. Must have taken a lot of... ahem... discipline (not an end in itself, but a means to an end).
Fripps guitar work always felt "percussiony" to me, this validates that feeling so well. Would you be interested in doing the guitar line from the song Starless (the 2nd section of the song, after the chorus and before jazzy part)? I think that would work very well with your instrument as well.
This is all the more impressive when one considers that the marimba is playing two guitar parts that shift into two different time signatures at three different times during the piece.
Right but it's multi-tracked. He's not playing those two parts simultaneously. As the video description says, you're watching him play Fripp's part; the other players' parts were recorded separately and have been mixed together.
Since I watched a cover of Discipline by a Chapman stick player a few days ago, UA-cam has presented me with a steady stream of diverse covers of this song. Thanks so much for creating and posting this. It was a pleasure to watch and listen!
Great! Very interesting hearing Fripp's part on its own - it's easier to discern when heard like this.. and the marimba is clearly one good way of doing an alternative voice.
Awesome! I always thought this piece had something African to it and performing it exclusively on percussions just makes it more so. Kudos. It sounds great 🔝
Very cool ! would it be possible to have the PDFs of this score? and an audio file? Is it edited? I would love to have my students work on this. Thank you for your feedback and congratulations for the performance!
This is probably going to be pulled because of UA-cam censors but I’m blown away!! This arrangement and the gent playing were just fucking Awesome!! Thank you for sharing and making my day that much more brighter!! Bloody Amazing!
Man. As a percussionist and King Crimson fan, this is freaking great. All of the textural stuff on Discipline sounds great on marimba.
Any even bad non pro musician can nail any song after some time copying.
No compliments as they'd discovered the Moon... 🤔

@@EloyGijon67 ok arrange and play a song then if it’s so easy to do it

Nice!!!!
Agreed. The more I listen to it, the more I like it.
I do think it's good.
I do think it's good
I do think it's good
I do think it's good
Sorry, I'm under stress
Very cool. And very in keeping with Fripp’s idea that this was to be a gamelan-like piece.
It bothers me that more people don’t know about this, or about the beauties of the gamelan in general.
UA-cam needs a "love" button because a "like" button doesn't do this performance justice.

This is the best version of this I have heard since the original, and if anything demonstrates what absolute genius this version of KC was.

Dumb " Committees" !!!
you cant just drop that you played to robert fripp and shrug it off man
expression is overrated
Wow, awesome! So, now can hear everybody, how was Discipline inspirated by the gamelan music!

Please do a whole album and I will buy it!
Me, too. What a wonderful labor of love.
I'll buy it and play it in my elevators in my hotel
That's beautiful. Classic Crimson with a Martin Denney/ Zappa flavor. It doesn't get much cooler than this, folks 🏁
This sounds awesome on marimba.
OMG - my head hurts ….. fantastic work mate!
What an amazing version - thank you for sharing it with us

もしジャミーミュアーが在籍していたらこの曲はきっとこうなったんだろうなあ…などと想像してしまいました。素晴らしい着想演奏です。
Like soundtrack, in the back of my head. In those moments I am happy ...
Great performance!
Uffff, as guatemalan and listen to this performed on our folklore instrument WOW
Very well done! King Crimson music is nourishment for the human brain! Thank you for the delicious treat!
This is amazing. If one day KC reforms you should be in the lineup.
Sounds like the late great Morris Pert!
Excellent job!

My first thought: This would be a good animusic animation.
I saw this album tour in NYC ‘81 or ‘82. This is phenomenal!!! 🤯 Mind blown!
Dallas for me, the Augora Ballroom
Mesmerizing. Reminds me of Steve Reich
Great job dude. Love your sweatshirt. I once played marimba, but I lost both of my arms. Thank you for this great video!
Wow, best I've seen in a lot of time.
I like it. Thanks for posting.
That is bad ass ! My favorite

Excellent.
Sounds great !
great performance!!
Hey man! This is really awesome!!!
I want this as ringtone
Wow, transfering that complex package of notes to an entirely different instrument is amazing.
Nice work!
Bravo! 🎉
Awesome performance!
Great! Very interesting hearing Fripp's part on its own - it's easier to discern when heard like this.. and the marimba is clearly one good way of doing an alternative voice.
This is incredible but I'm sure Mr. Fripp would say you missed a "doodle dee dee" part. 🤣
Awesome! I always thought this piece had something African to it and performing it exclusively on percussions just makes it more so. Kudos. It sounds great 🔝
Fripp has written that he was inspired by gamelan music -- Indonesian rather than African, but you're not wrong!
Great performance! The marimba is an amazing instrument.
Wow, EFFIN AWESOME, very nicely done.
Bravo!
Discipline is right. Thank you!
Buenísimo, increíble! Felicitaciones!!!
this is really good
Congratulations. Salute you!

beautiful.
You're hired!!!!!
Very good.
ooooooh very cool!
Walked off with an expression that said: "Need to practice more." Then again, I'm pretty sure all good musicians have that attitude.
Спасибо. Хорошо.😀
Wow the accuracy is insane! Well done even careful thought has been put into the triangle and the drums couldve been played by Bruford himself.
this is incredible. beautiful. mesmerizing.
Awesome 👏
Great. I heard a similar percussive arrangement some fifteen years ago by a japanese musician.
Excellent arrangement, masterfully played!
very nice!
awesome!
Well done!
Such a great sound for that piece!
This is probably going to be pulled because of UA-cam censors but I’m blown away!! This arrangement and the gent playing were just fucking Awesome!! Thank you for sharing and making my day that much more brighter!!
Bloody Amazing!

Wow! Very good! Congrats!
Fripp would approve of this
Outstanding ❗️
Bravo !! 💎

Truly enjoyed your arrangement. This would fit very well in Pierre Meorlen's Gong.
Wow!
That's really good.
this is so relaxing bro !!!! great job :D
Beautiful cover. Now do Gentle Giant - Funny Ways.
Holy mother of Marimba!
Love this! Great work!
Sounds similar to gamelan, as Robert Fripp intended
Increíble!! 😄😻
Great
Mind = blown

To paraphrase Billy Connolly, "you never hear anybody say "that's the xylophone players porsche" ".
