Thank You King Crimson for making my life better with your music.
This is my gift to you and to the people who share the love for music and general and to your music in particular.
Peace
Michael Giles was a Drummer's Drummer. Your tribute was near-perfect to the very last fading rolls! Beautiful!
Just like Mitch Mitchell, super jazzy, super technical drummer in a rock context and they excel.
2:42 to 2:48 the precision on that is unbelievable and a testiment to this drummers skill
And I have just finished the whole video, oh my you have truly brought the drums to life and this is an important video for future drummers please preserve it.
Thank you my friend..
Every drummer should watch this. Congrats!
Thank you Diego, respect!
Every drummer should. Agree
holy shit man. i've watched A LOT of drum covers of this song, this is by far the most perfect cover that I've seen.
Thank you Blasé! Bless you
You nailed the loose, subdued feel of the track perfectly. Playing a song like this is difficult enough, but playing it with as much feel and tastefulness as you is a whole different matter.
Michael Giles so underrated
Fabulous John Cleese there’s no one like him...
He is sensationally unique. However he didn’t do enough to be in the elite group of drummers. He put out the first 2 Crimson albums, the first being a transcendent landmark, and the second being probably half as good though some unique material. Then he made an album with Ian McDonald and that was it. I heard he did a solo album but you shouldn’t have to listen to a drummers solo album to rank him. It should be with his group(s). That’s why he’s often unranked or barely mentioned in all time greats. I do believe he’s a hair below Bruford as far as prog rock drummers but his style is more leaning towards the late 60s blues jazzy psychedlia stuff. He could’ve been a perfect replacement for Mitch Mitchell in Hendrix or Ian Paice I’m Purple. Of course King Crimson eats Purple for breakfast but Deep Purple made like 7 albums in the 70s all of them making money. Crimson had a great run with Bruford, I would dare say legendary. But of course Giles at that time was doing occasional session Work or something. Like that. One drummer I would compare or put him on the same level as in Ginger Baker. Two guys with perfect feel and technique and an unorthodox one of one style which is what drumming is all about
Absolutely underrated. Huge influence on Neil Peart.
@@connorclarke1218 I personally think he’s technically better than Ginger
He was never underrated by anyone that heard him play
That angle, that lighting, the eq, the surgical precision, that song, everything in this video is perfect
Very impressive. I'm not a drummer, and I can only name two handfuls of drummers off the top of my head, but I've always loved Giles' work in Court. It's always stood out to me as being something special.
Micheal giles is my favourite drummer. What a genius
The sound is spot on , it’s not about chops but about the sound of the instrument
The instrumental break at 2:53 is one of my favorite beats of all time.
likewise!
@davidstone9624
Hello! I agree entirely, I am quite new to the drums - do you have any other nice examples of this? I really like this subtle tom groove
@@chemical_ko755 Hey! I'm not a drummer... Just a bass player who loves to play with interesting drummers. Giles is top 3 for me. Good luck out there!
Over the moon wonderful. Your left hand is absolutely brill. Thank-you very kindly for this. Cheers!
I've been watching this video non-stop, this is mind bogglingly spotless, just wow
This is one of those performances that makes me want to learn drums. So quiet, and brilliantly creative. And still so impressive technically!
I've been revisiting 21st Century Schizoid Man and I Talk To The Wind recently - still blown away, even after 42 years. But what I noticed, that I somehow hadn't noticed before, was the drum line in I Talk To The Wind; specifically that part in the verses where between two snare hits there is no kick drum. It's very subtle, I guess, yet now that I've heard it, it's the centrepiece of the song for me. Michael Giles was/is a fantastic drummer - sometimes sublime, sometimes in-your-face, sometimes both at the same time.
I totally understand and feel what you wrote.. I’m very greatful to serve and spread the love of the music I admire so much.. thanks for sharing your thoughts
Fripp's harmonics aren't bad either
Man, perfect performance of the most perfect drum line. So beautiful how you were able to capture the nuances between the left foot and snare, cymbals. Wow! Always wanted to see this, thanks for making it happen!
WoW super cover
you are a very good observer to capture all the drumming intricacies of this performance
DUDE! This was so epic and perfect! Much love and gratitude to you, my fellow Michael Giles fan!!! Now do a drum cover of the entire McDonald & Giles LP!!! Peace!
very cool. always loved the drums and flute section at the end of the song
Wow, absolutely perfect tuning and execution. Thank you for sharing.
Adoro a criatividade do Michael Giles. Parabéns pelo cover!
Outstanding feeling of this song !
Fabulous playing.
Thank you very much.
דאממממממ גדי! אחלה טייק שמע.. תודה לך על זה
please do more of this, this is fantastic!
Always loved the drums on this album, and this song in particular.
That was sublime-amazing. What a journey inside the song....with such a sensitive and realistic display of the part. Just amazing!
Thanks my Friends, perfecta ejecución
Picture perfect! You captured all the gentle dynamics and colors of this beautiful song..
Please do some more covers, it's great to hear from you, thank you
Spot on, mate…right down to the sounds. Ian Wallace was a teacher of mine, he gave me the hi hats he used on the jazz trio stuff.
Amazing! You're Lucky
What I find striking is the continuity between I talk to the wind and Epitaph on the record, in spite of the two appearing to be two different animals on first listen. Playing drums to this track requires a level of proficiency and gusto that only a select few can handle, and you did an outstanding service to an outstanding exhibit of musical artistry.
Love this! It sounds as if it were just one drummer playing!
I love the sound of drums recorded in that period and you reproduced it perfectly. Great video.
Lovely work
hey man, thank you for doing this cover. You really inspired me to start druming. cheers.
That was beautiful! You played with such precision and with such feeling, you really did the song justice. Such a great drum performance! And thank you for the chart below!
This is my favorite drum cover on the internet. Almost the whole thing is perfect, and it is definitely just as good as the source track. You should post more!
This is so sick dude thank you
Wow! I am truly amazed at how perfectly done this is! This is a great tribute to one of the most underrated drummers. One of my favorites, it was such a joy to see close up someone perform this as well as you have, it must have taken tons of hours of practice to get this down.
Beautiful cover. I'd been looking for how Giles got the drum sound on Court, and thanks to your bang-on rendition not only in terms of notes, but tonally, I see that tea towels are what would get closer the sound I'm looking for. Thank you for sharing!
MStaynor-The Ringo Star trick, Don Brewer of Grand Funk Railroad also on the Survival album.
Mesmerized, I can't stop watching, you should do more videos
I love this! Michael Giles is one of my favorite drummers from that era. This song has some of the best drumming Michael has done and your performance really demonstrates how tasteful his playing is. His drums parts complimented King Crimson music perfectly. You did an excellent job in displaying this. Nicely done. Thank you!!
I totally agree with you!
I very flattered to see people who appreciate his playing like I do thinks I did a good job… thank you so much

amazing cover! great sound with muffled drums sounds like the original
Excellent job! Got the right hardware for the job too. Reckon the tea towel over the snare would have been exactly how they did it in the studio!
perfect.
גדי יא מלך

Ohh! So delicate and precise. My thoughts turned towards the hihat work, from 02:00!! Why do I think of humble and humane!?
