this video really helped me visual how beautiful and complex this song is. each individual instrument is playing (relatively) simple, repetitive lines, however the way these lines interact with their differing time signatures makes it sound like a single cohesive mass.
I have always thought this song was the ultimate dance tune due to the different time signatures. Any way you move you’re in time with someones piece. Very well done sir!
So true! I once had the honor of interviewing Adrian Belew, and I told him that standing in the audience and moving to KC's performance of Discipline is literally the moment I became comfortable with dancing. I remember the show at the Roxy in Hollywood actually being promoted as a "no-seating" show to create a dance floor in front of the stage. I love that you not only "get it" but you explained it! Watching Adrian move to the music was liberating, like an invitation to "go with the flow."
@@raivan354 It also helps that there is a stead 4/4 the entire song thanks to Bruford making sure it was there. Paraphrasing, but the complex time signatures against the 4/4 is where the music comes from.
OMG !! You made it ! Very impressive... Congrats ! I saw King Crimson in Edinburgh, last November (2018), they played Discipline, with ... 8 musicians. It was ... there is no word... so amazing !
Discipline is only a means to an end, never an end unto itself. Very well done, you did right by the spirit of the piece while still playing like a pianist! Nice.
Bruford was playing on his practice pads, and started feeling a rhythm. Watch Bruford's instructional video, perhaps entitled "Music goes to college". Fripp likes prime numbers that are not even, e.g., 17.
Extremely interesting and extremely well played and interpreted. Congratulations on the excellent work. Staccato on the piano can give more definition to many parts of the phrasing.
Comme quoi, Crimson mène à tout! Musicalement c'est fort intéressant et visuellement, c'est quelque chose. Respect, Madame, le grand Robert doit être fier de vous et de votre créativité.
It is impressive, well done! Now is there a possibility to have the pianos not mirrored? I guess (just a guess) it would be easier to check each part. This piece is difficult as is… then my brain is trying to see Belew’s part (or so I believe) upside down is nuts! 😉😂
i agree… in fact, i’d like to see each part in its own video and to be able to hear them separately… if noah still has the original files, that shouldn’t be too hard to upload…? 🙏
it is easier because I have two hands to play the patterns, that is true. The hardest part tho still is to remember and keep up with the length of every section, took me so long to get a take where I didn't miss the changes lmao
Yes, I did, made a challenge out of it. But some parts were too hard to transcribe back then, so I checked on songsterr and translated the guitar tabs to the piano.
nao dasa disiprin marvelous. although as a guitar player first and foremost, i can't help but feel a little butthurt seeing a lone pianist play something that requires 2 accomplished guitarists... quick, fellow axemen.. someone get stanley jordan and a doubleneck (if he's unavailable, last resort is the michelangelo guy with the roadkill perm - let's hope it doesn't come to that).. we gotta redeem our street cred and avenge our beloved brethren.. we can't let the penists get away with such an audacious diss track... well done tho. ... (you bastard)
Never saw anyone play those parts with 2 hands... I think you don't have enough control over the accents because you play with 2 hands. Some of what you played doesn't sound anything like the real thing because you're missing those accents... on that last part your playing octaves with your right hand (top keyboard), that's not whats going on in that part of the piece. That was my 2 cents.. but you' pretty much nailed it, good job :)
u have the hands of a pianist. unfortunately input lag has ruined this performance. I enjoy it as much as i hear the performer here, brilliant counting, each part recorded perfectly. fucking computers just cant process the nuanced timing like you are obviously feeling it
Beautiful take. New subscriber, new fan. What [Nerdycatgamer] said about visualizing the piece more clearly because of you're video is true for me also.
“Like hell im playing a polyrhythm by myself on piano”
haha strange things happen when ur bored xD
Its a polymeter :) (Im obsessed with King Crimson help me!)

Almost like that's what the song is about
@@willowFFMPEG Tbf it doesn't really have lyrics so idk how he'd know that by default.
@@JimothyRoss The title reflects the discipline required by the musicians in terms of timing and consistency.
you made an old monk smile and laugh with joy.

Thanks! I saw them in Germany June 2018 and I can agree, it was an amazing experience.
I discover your interpretation, brillant. Somewhere it makes me feel something like Steve Reich "piano phase"
Fripp was very influenced by Reich!! Good point 🙌

haha thank you so much!
I was afraid it was like opening a box and, as a reward, out comes Pin-Head.
Damn. I like this almost as much as I like the original. Well done.
thank you so much!
Excellent.
This is the first cover video I've ever watched all the way through. Nicely done!
thank you very much!
THAT was absolutely fantastic. Thank you!
So well done. You are very talented. And one of the most interesting polyrhythmic pieces you can play.
thank you so much!!

Wow! Please keep sharing your performances. This was very impressive.
nice. Ever consider prepping another piano fo the percussion parts? Or using Ligeti's 'touch block' technique? Could spice things up a bit
I don't play piano (drums), but this was impressive.

this looks easier than the 9th chords you have to stretch on a guitar for most of this piece.

Can you do a tutorial for this cover, pleaseeeee? :)
