    This is one of the reasons I think Discipline is one of their most perfect instrumentals, Adrian and Robert have one of their most intense interlocking songs and Tony and Bill demonstrate their craft of being cool as hell.

      I got to see it at a larger venue (Merriwether Post Pavillion, in MD).. The same place that Jackson Brown recorded the "Won't You Stay", (Just a little bit longer).. Yeah, the intense colored lighting on a larger stage curtain was the only stage set.. Sooo deep in color it was like an atmosphere.. It changed color through out.. but you never noticed when or how.. The whole evening was such an incredible experience.. Will never forget it..

    Apart from the amazing performance obviously. King Crimson offers these array of feelings. The way the chapmanstick is played is unbelievable. But more than that I’ve never seen the face at the end other than in a really close group of people. Appreciating the ending, he is not only playing, he is listening. Brilliant

    I don’t know if I kinda lost the beat for a while, from around 2:53 to 3:20 or so, or whether maybe you kinda did - I don’t mean COMPLETELY lost it, but rather, were a little behind and/or ahead at times, and not by choice … I do see your brow furrow then, upon rewatching - but regardless, that is a TOUGH piece around that point, and you do an incredible job here, I could only hope to someday play this half as well as you. Kudos on the performance, and thank you for the upload! I’ve had trouble picking out Levin’s part from the overall fabric of the song, especially during the section I highlighted above, so thank you enormously for having here illustrated it. Be well!

    • @fejestothgabor
      @fejestothgabor  4 місяці тому +1

      Yes, I lost the tempo a bit in that section, there is a bit of a rush in every measure - but then I always managed to resynchronize the beginning of the following measures and the change at 3:20 is also in the right place - well, that's the hardest part to calculate anyway!... enough math music, but that makes it nice :)

    Üdv! Amikor a 80-as években először hallottam , nem értettem ezt a zenét........A Crimson 80-as évekbeli albumaiit. .De hallgattam ,mert tudtam , éreztem ,hogy ez valami olyan dolog amihez idő kell ,hogy felfogjam mi folyik itt valójában. Éreztem hogy mögötte valami zsenialitás lapul, ami izgalmassá tette a dolgot, és biztos voltam benne ,hogy azért nem értem ,mert akik megalkották ,fényévekre előbbre járnak ,mint bárki az akkori zenék megalkotói közül és a hétköznapi zenehallgatónak ez szokatlan volt. .........Aztán videón is sikerült szert tennem egy 80-as évekbeli koncertre, VHS agyonmásolt minőségben..............Mára már világos - 40 év távlatából - a KC zenészeinek zsenialitása.-----------Köszönöm, és gratulálok kiváló játékodhoz. Nagyon szépen köszönöm Laci a visszajelzést! Valóban eredeti és jövőbemutató zenét játszottak a 80-as években is - nekem könnyű dolgom van, mert csak 2003-ban ismertem meg őket és zenészként talán picit jobban bele tudok mélyedni a műhelyük titkaiba mint átlagember - számomra a leginnovatívabb prog rock zenekar, ha a teljes életművüket vetem össze a többi hasonló bandával! A Chapman Stick pedig csak a hab a tortán :)

    Great work! Got proposed that video after listening to a lot of Levin-era Crimson, great to hear the stick part so clearly.
    One nitpick though is that at the riff starting at 1:27, you seem to be a quarter note too early on the 2 and 4, compared to the album version. Don't know if it's a personal choice, but it does make the beat a bit weird for my ears.

    • @fejestothgabor
      @fejestothgabor  4 місяці тому +1

      Thank you for the feedback!
      Well, what you wrote, at 1:27, where the A minor theme changes to 4/4 E major, is actually the way I play it originally, so this is the normal part. The A minor theme, which is in 17/8, is no longer played in its entirety, but the end is clipped, and that is why it sounds a little strange when we are already in the next theme. There is a slight slip in the tempo in the recording, at the very end of the C minor theme, but the change to C sharp minor is already in place there as well. Not an easy note, not on any instrument...

      I'm not sure exactly which one you mean by "Part B". If you play 4/4, which is in E major, it's completely accurate. However, around 3:20 I was really in a bit of a hurry, if you were thinking about that, you noticed it right. The really difficult thing is to catch the shift well at 3:25, because it is quite difficult to calculate, but it worked out perfectly here.

      @@fejestothgabor Thanks for getting back to me! That transcription is exactly what i've been looking for! Unfortunately it looks like he's taken the chart down since it's a part of his new discipline era transcription book. I guess i'll have to pay and wait for the book or figure it out by ear and watching your playing

      Former Crimson touch guitar player Trey Gunn helped transcribe all the parts on the whole Discipline album, and there's sheet music for sale now.

    Very nice, a decent start! There are flaws though: syncopations mistaken for downbeats, lost ornamentation in the Stick high parts. Easily corrected, though!

    Why is he only focusing on Tony's playing with King Crimson. There are so many other different projects that he has played with. What about demonstrating his playing on some of their music?

      I understand the suggestion, it's legitimate. I've already thought about making a mix of the Peter Gabriel tracks played by Tony on the Stick, that will probably be done, but not until next year. The Stick Men project is a more complicated matter, but fortunately I have sheet music for several tracks, so there is a chance that it will eventually become 1-2 covers. However, for now I want to "finish" the tracks from the THRAK album and a few more from the Discipline era, so that they are all available and visible on my channel. 👍

    The biggest difference with I find with Bruford is makes everything swing in a cool way with a groove. Pat was great in a run but when Bruford left Pat just has no groove to his playing. Pat is technically amazing but his drumming never makes be want to move like this forces you to move.

    He's not always playing like the record sounds. At some parts he did less notes, at some other parts he forgot to put pentatonic chords. I give my kudos for the gutz, but for its complete respect of the song tablature... No. For those who needs time stamps, just ask.

    I don’t get this kind of stuff. Always thought King Crimson was asshole pretentious music. Just throwing a bunch of notes together that don’t really go together and calling it fusion. And that Dipstick instrument has a terrible tone.
