Today is Tricia's birthday so we're going out! A couple more how-to-ish videos and then we pick-up the new rig and prepare for 7 months on the road. So many great places to see this year! We're looking forward to hitting the road again and getting back into a rhythm of travel and releasing travel videos! Many have asked if the COVID-19 has changed our travel plans. The short answer is yes. But one of the lessons fulltime RVing teaches us to remain flexible. Our plans are always changing due to forest fires, closed freeways, low bridges, family needs and more. That is just part of life. We know from past events that "this too shall pass" and in the meantime, we remain cautious, healthy and flexible. Perhaps RV travel is the best way to get out during this time, but it's important to be self-contained and self-reliant and perhaps not too far from home should medical attention be required.

My wife always says our first trailer was a mistake. I say No No, it was perfect because we learned what we wanted, hated and couldn't live without. Our trailer now is the one we couldn't live without.
We do a River Float with a group of about 50 every Labor Day (Sunday). We started taking the kids when our youngest was 3. At age 14, someone asked why it was so important to get to the float. Rather than a different party invite. His response - “Its our friends and family tradition”. Four hours of catching up, laughing, cliff jumping, sharing snacks. Memories.
Just five years ago we went from a 16' tear drop, to a 19' Airstream and then on to a 23' Airstream. And now we are considering a 27'. Are we crazy? And along the way we have needed to increase the size of our tow vehicles, too. In the boating world they call this three foot itas! I know because I was one of the as well. NO MORE CAMPERS. WE'VE GOT TO STOP NOW! But we probably won't. Love the Airstreams, though.
First off...Happy Birthday Tricia! So we are currently living full time in our 41 foot bunkhouse. Purchased it used back in 2016. Original owners lived in it for a year but out grew it. It sat for a year in a construction yard before we purchased it. It was never put in the road after it's original purchase. We found out about "debugging" while driving in northern Arizona when I noticed the fender trip falling apart. That I-40 in Arizona was brutal. Other things came up as well along the trip. Needless to say, the initial "wring out trip" is very important. I had to reenforce the drawer bottoms, upgrade the tires and a host of other items to make it safe and sound for travel. We did purchase it for about half of the book retail value which was awesome!
Love the fact that you state to "start small". We had a pop-up with three boys for 15 years. We absolutely had a great time and experiences. As they have left the nest, we decided to look at a new one in 2015. Started looking at 30' plus pull behind, and walked away after two weeks of looking with a 33' fifth wheel. Best decision we have ever made, and checked off the majority on our wish list. Cannot wait to see what you choose next!
0:55 "How passionate people are about the rig that they have, and their agenda to get you to have the rig that they have." I find this to be very true about a great many things, I attribute it to that fact that everyone of us has some level of repressed buyers remorse, and if one can "score points" (so to speak) about why their decision was better, then the less remorseful they feel. It is AMAZING what you can learn if you don't have buyer's remorse when listening to other RVers on UA-cam.

Took your advise years ago. "Just buy what will get you on the road now" Had 3 amazing seasons and lost about $2,000 on my resale. Not too bad. It was worth it.
So good... Another educational video full of money-saving suggestions. Before I buy any large-ticket item, no matter how much I am in love with it, I ask myself, "Sweet, but, how hard will it be to sell." My approach when looking for my little toy hauler was similar to your suggestions; after narrowing down my preferences to 3 or 4 brands, I patiently watched rvtrader and craigslist to see how many are for sale, average time on market, and monitored relevant forums for recurring comments from owners about problems. For my purpose at the time, I decided on a brand that might prove to be an exception to the rule of, "Buying stuff is easy... Selling stuff is hard." In my case, it took little more than 12 months to find the right unit for me, and in the last 2 years, I've had 3 people leave a note crammed in the door asking if I have an interest in selling it. Of course, they might have only offered me $100 :-) Looking forward to the new rig reveal. Happy Birthday, Tricia!!
My first RV experience was in a 20 ft class c on a 3 week cross country in the early 80's with my older brother, mother and baby sister. We rented locally. My brother and I took turns driving. I was 20 :) best vacation EVER. Mostly the time spent with my family. We lived it so much we rented again the next few years. Traveled back across country from Bar Harbor, Maine to San Diego, CA. We also went to Florida and Mexio. I love your tips videos as much as your travel videos. Thank you.
Another cost of ownership to consider is storage. In AZ the HOAs will not allow you to park your rig on the property, so you have to store the RV when it is not in use.
We were lucky to purchase a 2007 Jayco Jay Feather light sport (19.7 feet) from my parents who have years of learned experience with this trailer that they bought brand new from an RV dealership. Purchasing their well loved trailer was an absolute dream for us as being first time RV owners. The experiences and knowledge that they passed onto us for this specific trailer can never be duplicated or bought anywhere. We're patiently waiting the purchase of our first upgrade (in a few years, hopefully) but in the mean time, we are learning and figuring out all the little tricks and tips that we can while we have the smaller trailer. Nice to stumble onto this vid. My wife has never been "camping". Two times she went was in a portable mansion. Big diesel pusher. I want to live full time on a sailboat. Almost opposites! "Get it afloat and fix stuff later." Isnt her cup of tea. Lol! We're are in the buying mind of small now and grow later. All our kids are out on their own. If we can live with each other on land, in a small box we might have a chance on the water. Inspirational videos like this keep our hopes up! Ty guys!!!
"Start small and start now" is the best advice anyone could give a prospective RVer. Too many people buy a rig that is WAAAYYYY too large for them and get completely turned off on the the idea of RV travel in one trip. You have to ask yourself how you are going to use it, where do you plan to go, what time of year.... etc etc. Keep up the great travel videos. We appreciate the ideas for places to go as well as useful tips about the rig. We're from Flag, and loved seeing the aspens on the Peaks. Thanks. Oh, almost forgot, happy birthday, Tricia.
Me and the wife started with a 23 footer with a slide out a year ago. We have taken her out four times and to three different RV parks since then. We are starting slowly by just going within two to three hours from home but plan on venturing further and further. I discovered your channel when researching the different items we would need and or forget to buy. Thank you for making these types of videos as they are helpful and give great ideas or different perspectives.

Great info. We bought new, because we didn't feel comfortable on making the right choice on camper to truck size. We visited a few places to see common factors that they used. We bought basic so I could customize as we figured out what we really wanted in the camper and how I felt were short comings in the build. Traveling and up grading the camper make for a great hobby.
My family has been traveling with a trailer since I was a little kid but when I got married and had a kid, I told my hubby we needed to get a trailer. We got a Scotty with no bathroom first, then as the kid grown we got a little larger Mallard with a big bathroom then we got a 31' travel trailer new then when the kid went off to college we just got a 2011 DRV Mobile Suite which is a fifth wheel. I think you both give out great advice to everyone. Start small and move up from there, just get going. I love this life and it does not matter if it is a used one. We have only had one new one out of all 5. The older ones are the best especially if you know how to work on them it will save you a fortune!
Thanks for sharing such honest and clear information. We started our full time journey in Oct. 2017. Two city folks from LA with zero RV experience. We chose not to keep our daydream and do a hard lifestyle reset. Spent the last year and a half working for a dealership learning service and repair. We've learned quite a bit and would like to use that knowledge and skill to help folks as we travel. Your story is inspiring.
My wife and I started out with a 25ft tongue pull and then went to a 5th wheel and have enjoyed it for a long time. We are on our 7th trailer and are still going strong, just to let you know that every trailer we have had or sold its all been private party. Great videos and safe travels
Yes, the run what you can bring "Run what you bring" factor is very important.I 100% applaud your voice and opinion on this. Heck, we have a 5th wheel in the driveway, but enjoy day jeep rides, picnics and (pora pot buckets) for day trips through the Talledgada national forest skyway motor way. BTW only 4wd will make the trip, and no campers, just roughing it and camping with tents.
Hey Mark as a husband and father I gotta tell you the way you’re girl looks at you when you’re talking is just awesome. You guys are such a good team!!!! I look at the older generation RV’ers and they all seem to be in the smaller Mercedes/Transit RVs which tells me they are the least hassle to deal with and by looking online they seem to hold the best resale value. Cannot wait to see Mark driving that big ole Super C truck he’s got enough plaid shirts (trucker Mark) it’s a guys dream to be driving the biggest manliest rig on the road!!! No joke, my wife and I did just want you explained; get what you can afford/hall now and dip your feet in the water! Turns out we have found what we have been dreaming of! Bought our first 23’ travel trailer and have a great 2019 camping season! Once the weather gets nice enough in Iowa we will get it out of storage and hit the road! Thank guys and safe travels!

Great video for newbies for sure. We have owned several trailers and 5th wheels over the years, will never be a perfect unit, always something need to be done to make it perfect. The best time to buy new is the fall after the main season ends, ie after labor day weekend. October for example the new models come in anc just like cars a dealer wants to move the current model year. Also that works for timing on used as well as a person is motivated if they are storing it. Helps greatly with covering depreciation. Safe travels!
Really enjoyed the video talking about your next rv, I have had a couple a 20 ft Terry 35 ft jays and my current 28 total length but bought as a 23 f2f grand design reflection, this is my last one and not sure how many years I have left to rv , however I still tent camp as I take the horses back into the wilderness but just as I started packing in you don't think about the day you turn 70 and your legs aren't what they used to be. So I'm in my last rv and I pray I have a few years to enjoy but depreciation won't even come into my head as I will have the memories that money can't buy and hopefully I will be able to share the remainder of my raving time with a friend that will be there t to be with me and the excitement of seeing this wonderful country. I have lived in Europe and traveled through out but there is nothing like home...God bless you guys and remember you to will reach your last rv before you go camping in the sky....

Some good solid advice in this. My family has been in the RV business for 50 years. I have been in the fortunate position to have tried just about every style RV for vacations throughout my life. My wife are going full time in an Airstream when I retire and can't wait to explore the wonderful places I have heard about all my life. Thank you for posting this.
A lot of good advice and useful info for those who want to start RVing. They are always kinks to work out in anything you do, so it stands to reason there would be some in RVing as well. I love that you just just get what you can afford and works for you and get on the road. So true. Can't wait to see the new rig and the route you will be taking-all the places you will be going. Two years ago I bought a 22' travel trailer and just knew it was what would fit my needs. I now own a 40' diesel pusher. As the old saying goes, too big lasts two weeks, too small lasts forever.

Great video, very well thought out. We're about 4 weeks into our very first RV trip and are having a ball. We started in KY, saw family in TX, went to Austin, Gruene, San Antonio, Big Bend, are now in Santa Fe NM where today we'll see a high school friend that we haven't seen in almost 20 years. Later we're off to Taos for a few days and then Colorado Springs where we'll see another high school friend and more family, then back home. There is no way we could have done this without an RV. It just makes possible so many things that we've always wanted to do. And we're already thinking about the next trip! Thanks for all of the tips which have made this easier.
Love the "Start Small, Start Now" statement as this is some of the best advice. After spending a sleepless night at Mt Rainier in a tent and my son kicking me in the head all night (he had just turned 3), I vowed to never sleep in a tent again. The next spring we started to look for tent trailers, just so we had something off the ground. However, tent trailers don't fare well in the Pacific Northwest and collect mold like crazy, so the sales guy steered us towards a hybrid which looked like it had barely been used. This turned out to the best rig for us as we were limited on the weight for our tow vehicle. Before we started looking at trailers, we made a promise to ourselves that we would go camping at least one weekend a month from March/April through October/November and at least one full week during the summer. We didn't want to be those people who buy an RV and then just let it sit and rot. After 13 seasons of camping with this trailer, I would say that we have been successful in keeping this promise with more trips to come. We have done local state parks and trips to Glacier, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Bryce Canyon, Zion, Grand Canyon, Mesa Verde, the Californian Redwoods and down the coast all the way to Los Angeles, Crater Lake, Banff, and Jasper.
I have watched so many of videos. I’ve learned so much. Thanks for all you do and creating this community. We bought our rig. We are going full time. I can get a lot of this information on many different UA-cam channels. Your outlook however, has really made me feel more confident. I’m a truck driver from upstate, New York. I really hope I run into you all out on the road at some point.
We bought a used Class C for our first RV. We had no idea that we'd spend an additional $5k for supplies, repairs and overcoming neglected maintenance. But we only paid $13k for a 28 foot rig. We're now weekend warriors, having stayed in RV Parks, State and County Parks, and boondocked. We even went from our home in Washington State to Montana for 10 days and moochdocked. I'm in love with "Gertrude" even though I'm always working on something. That's part of the fun.

Really enjoyed the information. We are selling our 1st RV we bought 2 years ago. It was the right RV for those two years but now, well we have changed so the RV needs to change. This was very useful and helpful! Thanks guys and safe travels!
I heartily second the notion of getting the RV you can afford now - and then evolving over time. After years of tent camping we moved to an RV 40 years ago with a fold-out tent trailer. Then we moved to a pop up Coleman tent trailer, then a 24' bunkhouse trailer, then a 25' trailer with a slideout, then a 27' trailer with two slides. Just a few months ago we got a 30' fifth wheel.
I started with a little 16 Ft tagalong then get a 26 Ft tagalong, had for 6 years and traded it in on a 28 Ft 5th wheel and ended up with a F-350 dully to pull it. You are 100% right when you say start small, start now.

I've heard the average length of ownership for a first RV is 3 years. By then you know what you want in the next one. Hope your new one is a Super C You've already done the travel trailer routine.

I LOVE the idea of “Start where you are” and “analysis paralysis”. I have a minivan and can haul a small pop up. But im having a hard time finding and buying one So...van camping it is. Just me and my older kids for now so we can get the hang of it. Im so excited to pack it up and just go for a couple days. Thanks for the advice and love the videos!

I've been RVing since 1990. I've had class As, B's, C's, straight tagalongs, tagalongs with push outs tagalongs one slide 2 slides straight fifth wheels and fifth wheels with 1,. 2, and 3 slides . I've been living in campers full time in New England since 1992 . I personally like a tagalong 32' single slide bunkhouse . The bunkhouse is nice for full time camping because the bunkhouse gives you the option of storing your winter clothing during the summer and your summer clothing during the winter . Also they're easy to tow and you always have a couple comfortable.spots for overnight guests if the need presents itself . Also new construction technology provides easy towing, underbelly heating, to keep the floors warm, and your tanks from freezing . Don't forget to grab a thermostatiçly controlled Blue flame heater and a dehumidifier for the winters in New England .
Great video guys as always, very informative. One of the biggest things I've seen is something you hit on a long time ago (weight rating) more so axle weight. I've also noticed (due to my job) is a substantial disregard for tires and brakes, you did an awesome job with that before without getting to technical like I unfortunately have to lol. This is our second year RVing and we are learning as we go. Each new place has its own challenges, memories and experiences. Can’t wait to see what your new chosen rig would be!!
We are all different and that’s what makes the world go round. We pored over many websites, UA-cam videos, etc. to create what we thought would be the perfect RV for us which was a Class B Sprinter. It’s now 3 years later and have a few lessons learned. We realized we didn’t need the awning as we don’t stay anywhere for very long but we have it in case we need it. Early on I wanted to buy an RV mat and my spouse convinced me to wait. I’m glad I listened as we haven’t needed it and it would have taken up some of our precious storage. Also, our iPads with streaming services work better than our RV’s TV.

Bought a trailer for two people. Big bathroom and island kitchen .Auto legs . 50 amp dual Ac . Larado 280 rb built by Keystone . Had only one flaw. A blind on our dinette window. I bought a seven year transferable warranty . It covers everything. Great selling point. I wish I rolled a Hensley hitch into the deal .

Things have changed since you made this video... :) Demand is through the roof, availability is so limited. I just bought a minnie winnine 26T new and was able to get 25% discount, so I think I got lucky. So excited to continue following your videos.
We recently purchased an older 35 ft diesel pusher. The previous owner obviously took great pride in his rig and had the means to maintain it well. He also had already done a lot of the upgrades we wanted. We were able to buy it at a great price pay cash and find out if this is the lifestyle we want. It also gives us the opportunity to see if ultimately we want a larger or smaller rig for when we retire (6-8 yrs off) without the depreciation hit of a newer rig. So excited about the possibilities, 1st trip planned for Moab in April!
Hi, Had them all starting with a tent. The wife and I retired and found a 9 year old 36' Class A, one owner and in mint condition so we are back to a class A for our life style. Taking a long West trip this year (I hope) and spend one week at each stop to explore. Your right on as to find the rig that fits your style at that time. Good job
Just found you a few weeks ago. Really enjoy the videos. My wife and i just bought our new travel trailer last month. We spent months looking for the right one. One thing we discovered is it is difficult to find one that checks off all the boxes, just find the one that fits. We are planning on doing short trips for the next two years and then retire to long extended journeys. Hope to see you on the road some day. Stay safe.
We bought our first RV last year (a 25ft. travel trailer) and decided to keep it at a seasonal campground for now, because of the stress of pulling & parking it! It was nerve wracking! Love your videos! And Happy Birthday Tricia!
Ended up building my own Camper ... maybe not the best idea for resale but arguably it has the cool factor. Easy to maintain and repair since I know it top to bottom but its very simple and very little tech. Thanks for the great vid!

This comes from a couple who started small, ended up with a beautiful Momentum and a new F450, to a Rubicon and a tiny little trailer that has two doors that open to a mattress. Returned just today from a week in a rental motorhome. In a tight campground, a fire ring was too close to the road. I nipped it, flipping it up, and it put a major gash in the tire. I’m in rural Arkansas, 10 miles from the nearest town big enough for services. But we got there, got it replaced and were back on the road in an hour. Did it crush me? Nope. I retire in August and can’t wait to go full time. This week with the rental sealed the deal for me. 😀👍🏻❤️
I am certainly a noob at RV'ing. I have decided on a travel trailer keeping it under 30'. Since I will be traveling with a dog and three cats, I need a space for two litter boxes. I like the floor plan of the Jayco Jayflight 264BH because of the storage space under the bunks for the litter boxes that will be easily cleaned from the outside. I want to primarily boondock and stay at BML and NFS lands. I'm getting close to getting started. Becoming more and more impatient every day. I'm looking more of a used rig to start with, primarily to keep the cost down getting started. The information you have provided has been very useful. Thank you. Happy Birthday, Tricia.
Excellent advice !!! I spent years trying to decide on the “perfect” camper and a few years ago I read a comment about this very thing so I finally bought my Scamp !!! I love love love it :) Your killing me....can’t wait to hear what you got !!!!
Very good points, go with major manufacture, popular model, put your personal extras in, and 3 years later you may get your money back on msrp giving up the extras.

Soooooo true!!!!! Why people post an ad to sell anything (boat, house, car, RV) with only 1 or 2 photos - exterior only - and most esp. those who take the photo from a huge distance away!!!!!!
MY wife and bought a 2013 coachman TT 32 ft 2years ago after seeing one your first vides .We took it to Branson Mo and lake Maconahy Ne pluse lots of short trips. We started with a tent then a smal pop up for 12yr we wanted more room and a bathroom it is not perfict but it covered most of the boxes thank you

Many have asked if the COVID-19 has changed our travel plans. The short answer is yes. But one of the lessons fulltime RVing teaches us to remain flexible. Our plans are always changing due to forest fires, closed freeways, low bridges, family needs and more. That is just part of life.
We know from past events that "this too shall pass" and in the meantime, we remain cautious, healthy and flexible. Perhaps RV travel is the best way to get out during this time, but it's important to be self-contained and self-reliant and perhaps not too far from home should medical attention be required.

My wife always says our first trailer was a mistake. I say No No, it was perfect because we learned what we wanted, hated and couldn't live without. Our trailer now is the one we couldn't live without.
We do a River Float with a group of about 50 every Labor Day (Sunday). We started taking the kids when our youngest was 3. At age 14, someone asked why it was so important to get to the float. Rather than a different party invite. His response - “Its our friends and family tradition”. Four hours of catching up, laughing, cliff jumping, sharing snacks. Memories.
Just five years ago we went from a 16' tear drop, to a 19' Airstream and then on to a 23' Airstream. And now we are considering a 27'. Are we crazy? And along the way we have needed to increase the size of our tow vehicles, too. In the boating world they call this three foot itas! I know because I was one of the as well.
NO MORE CAMPERS. WE'VE GOT TO STOP NOW! But we probably won't. Love the Airstreams, though.

So we are currently living full time in our 41 foot bunkhouse. Purchased it used back in 2016. Original owners lived in it for a year but out grew it. It sat for a year in a construction yard before we purchased it. It was never put in the road after it's original purchase. We found out about "debugging" while driving in northern Arizona when I noticed the fender trip falling apart. That I-40 in Arizona was brutal. Other things came up as well along the trip. Needless to say, the initial "wring out trip" is very important. I had to reenforce the drawer bottoms, upgrade the tires and a host of other items to make it safe and sound for travel. We did purchase it for about half of the book retail value which was awesome!
Love the fact that you state to "start small". We had a pop-up with three boys for 15 years. We absolutely had a great time and experiences. As they have left the nest, we decided to look at a new one in 2015. Started looking at 30' plus pull behind, and walked away after two weeks of looking with a 33' fifth wheel. Best decision we have ever made, and checked off the majority on our wish list. Cannot wait to see what you choose next!
0:55 "How passionate people are about the rig that they have, and their agenda to get you to have the rig that they have." I find this to be very true about a great many things, I attribute it to that fact that everyone of us has some level of repressed buyers remorse, and if one can "score points" (so to speak) about why their decision was better, then the less remorseful they feel. It is AMAZING what you can learn if you don't have buyer's remorse when listening to other RVers on UA-cam.

So good... Another educational video full of money-saving suggestions. Before I buy any large-ticket item, no matter how much I am in love with it, I ask myself, "Sweet, but, how hard will it be to sell." My approach when looking for my little toy hauler was similar to your suggestions; after narrowing down my preferences to 3 or 4 brands, I patiently watched rvtrader and craigslist to see how many are for sale, average time on market, and monitored relevant forums for recurring comments from owners about problems. For my purpose at the time, I decided on a brand that might prove to be an exception to the rule of, "Buying stuff is easy... Selling stuff is hard." In my case, it took little more than 12 months to find the right unit for me, and in the last 2 years, I've had 3 people leave a note crammed in the door asking if I have an interest in selling it. Of course, they might have only offered me $100 :-)

My first RV experience was in a 20 ft class c on a 3 week cross country in the early 80's with my older brother, mother and baby sister. We rented locally. My brother and I took turns driving. I was 20 :) best vacation EVER. Mostly the time spent with my family. We lived it so much we rented again the next few years. Traveled back across country from Bar Harbor, Maine to San Diego, CA. We also went to Florida and Mexio. I love your tips videos as much as your travel videos. Thank you.
Another cost of ownership to consider is storage. In AZ the HOAs will not allow you to park your rig on the property, so you have to store the RV when it is not in use.
We were lucky to purchase a 2007 Jayco Jay Feather light sport (19.7 feet) from my parents who have years of learned experience with this trailer that they bought brand new from an RV dealership. Purchasing their well loved trailer was an absolute dream for us as being first time RV owners. The experiences and knowledge that they passed onto us for this specific trailer can never be duplicated or bought anywhere. We're patiently waiting the purchase of our first upgrade (in a few years, hopefully) but in the mean time, we are learning and figuring out all the little tricks and tips that we can while we have the smaller trailer. Your video was awesome and had lots of sound advice, THANK YOU!

I want to live full time on a sailboat. Almost opposites! "Get it afloat and fix stuff later." Isnt her cup of tea. Lol!
We're are in the buying mind of small now and grow later. All our kids are out on their own. If we can live with each other on land, in a small box we might have a chance on the water.

"Start small and start now" is the best advice anyone could give a prospective RVer. Too many people buy a rig that is WAAAYYYY too large for them and get completely turned off on the the idea of RV travel in one trip. You have to ask yourself how you are going to use it, where do you plan to go, what time of year.... etc etc.
Keep up the great travel videos. We appreciate the ideas for places to go as well as useful tips about the rig.

Me and the wife started with a 23 footer with a slide out a year ago. We have taken her out four times and to three different RV parks since then. We are starting slowly by just going within two to three hours from home but plan on venturing further and further. I discovered your channel when researching the different items we would need and or forget to buy. Thank you for making these types of videos as they are helpful and give great ideas or different perspectives.

Great info. We bought new, because we didn't feel comfortable on making the right choice on camper to truck size. We visited a few places to see common factors that they used. We bought basic so I could customize as we figured out what we really wanted in the camper and how I felt were short comings in the build. Traveling and up grading the camper make for a great hobby.
@rvgeeks have a great way to say it as well. “Don’t try to buy your last rig first. Buy the smallest rig you feel comfortable in.” Great video!
My family has been traveling with a trailer since I was a little kid but when I got married and had a kid, I told my hubby we needed to get a trailer. We got a Scotty with no bathroom first, then as the kid grown we got a little larger Mallard with a big bathroom then we got a 31' travel trailer new then when the kid went off to college we just got a 2011 DRV Mobile Suite which is a fifth wheel. I think you both give out great advice to everyone. Start small and move up from there, just get going. I love this life and it does not matter if it is a used one. We have only had one new one out of all 5. The older ones are the best especially if you know how to work on them it will save you a fortune!
Thanks for sharing such honest and clear information. We started our full time journey in Oct. 2017. Two city folks from LA with zero RV experience. We chose not to keep our daydream and do a hard lifestyle reset. Spent the last year and a half working for a dealership learning service and repair. We've learned quite a bit and would like to use that knowledge and skill to help folks as we travel. Your story is inspiring.
My wife and I started out with a 25ft tongue pull and then went to a 5th wheel and have enjoyed it for a long time. We are on our 7th trailer and are still going strong, just to let you know that every trailer we have had or sold its all been private party. Great videos and safe travels
Started in a tent, went to a pop up, a 19ft camper. Now in a 40ft fifthwheel with 5 slides & I'm now full time. I love it.
Yes, the run what you can bring "Run what you bring" factor is very important.I 100% applaud your voice and opinion on this. Heck, we have a 5th wheel in the driveway, but enjoy day jeep rides, picnics and (pora pot buckets) for day trips through the Talledgada national forest skyway motor way. BTW only 4wd will make the trip, and no campers, just roughing it and camping with tents.
Hey Mark as a husband and father I gotta tell you the way you’re girl looks at you when you’re talking is just awesome. You guys are such a good team!!!! I look at the older generation RV’ers and they all seem to be in the smaller Mercedes/Transit RVs which tells me they are the least hassle to deal with and by looking online they seem to hold the best resale value. Cannot wait to see Mark driving that big ole Super C truck he’s got enough plaid shirts (trucker Mark) it’s a guys dream to be driving the biggest manliest rig on the road!!!

No joke, my wife and I did just want you explained; get what you can afford/hall now and dip your feet in the water! Turns out we have found what we have been dreaming of! Bought our first 23’ travel trailer and have a great 2019 camping season! Once the weather gets nice enough in Iowa we will get it out of storage and hit the road! Thank guys and safe travels!

Great video for newbies for sure. We have owned several trailers and 5th wheels over the years, will never be a perfect unit, always something need to be done to make it perfect. The best time to buy new is the fall after the main season ends, ie after labor day weekend. October for example the new models come in anc just like cars a dealer wants to move the current model year. Also that works for timing on used as well as a person is motivated if they are storing it. Helps greatly with covering depreciation. Safe travels!
Really enjoyed the video talking about your next rv, I have had a couple a 20 ft Terry 35 ft jays and my current 28 total length but bought as a 23 f2f grand design reflection, this is my last one and not sure how many years I have left to rv , however I still tent camp as I take the horses back into the wilderness but just as I started packing in you don't think about the day you turn 70 and your legs aren't what they used to be. So I'm in my last rv and I pray I have a few years to enjoy but depreciation won't even come into my head as I will have the memories that money can't buy and hopefully I will be able to share the remainder of my raving time with a friend that will be there t to be with me and the excitement of seeing this wonderful country. I have lived in Europe and traveled through out but there is nothing like home...God bless you guys and remember you to will reach your last rv before you go camping in the sky....

Some good solid advice in this. My family has been in the RV business for 50 years. I have been in the fortunate position to have tried just about every style RV for vacations throughout my life. My wife are going full time in an Airstream when I retire and can't wait to explore the wonderful places I have heard about all my life. Thank you for posting this.

Two years ago I bought a 22' travel trailer and just knew it was what would fit my needs. I now own a 40' diesel pusher. As the old saying goes, too big lasts two weeks, too small lasts forever.

Great video, very well thought out. We're about 4 weeks into our very first RV trip and are having a ball. We started in KY, saw family in TX, went to Austin, Gruene, San Antonio, Big Bend, are now in Santa Fe NM where today we'll see a high school friend that we haven't seen in almost 20 years. Later we're off to Taos for a few days and then Colorado Springs where we'll see another high school friend and more family, then back home. There is no way we could have done this without an RV. It just makes possible so many things that we've always wanted to do. And we're already thinking about the next trip! Thanks for all of the tips which have made this easier.

Love the "Start Small, Start Now" statement as this is some of the best advice. After spending a sleepless night at Mt Rainier in a tent and my son kicking me in the head all night (he had just turned 3), I vowed to never sleep in a tent again. The next spring we started to look for tent trailers, just so we had something off the ground. However, tent trailers don't fare well in the Pacific Northwest and collect mold like crazy, so the sales guy steered us towards a hybrid which looked like it had barely been used. This turned out to the best rig for us as we were limited on the weight for our tow vehicle.
Before we started looking at trailers, we made a promise to ourselves that we would go camping at least one weekend a month from March/April through October/November and at least one full week during the summer. We didn't want to be those people who buy an RV and then just let it sit and rot. After 13 seasons of camping with this trailer, I would say that we have been successful in keeping this promise with more trips to come. We have done local state parks and trips to Glacier, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Bryce Canyon, Zion, Grand Canyon, Mesa Verde, the Californian Redwoods and down the coast all the way to Los Angeles, Crater Lake, Banff, and Jasper.
I have watched so many of videos. I’ve learned so much. Thanks for all you do and creating this community. We bought our rig. We are going full time. I can get a lot of this information on many different UA-cam channels. Your outlook however, has really made me feel more confident. I’m a truck driver from upstate, New York. I really hope I run into you all out on the road at some point.
We bought a used Class C for our first RV. We had no idea that we'd spend an additional $5k for supplies, repairs and overcoming neglected maintenance. But we only paid $13k for a 28 foot rig. We're now weekend warriors, having stayed in RV Parks, State and County Parks, and boondocked. We even went from our home in Washington State to Montana for 10 days and moochdocked. I'm in love with "Gertrude" even though I'm always working on something. That's part of the fun.

I heartily second the notion of getting the RV you can afford now - and then evolving over time. After years of tent camping we moved to an RV 40 years ago with a fold-out tent trailer. Then we moved to a pop up Coleman tent trailer, then a 24' bunkhouse trailer, then a 25' trailer with a slideout, then a 27' trailer with two slides. Just a few months ago we got a 30' fifth wheel.
I started with a little 16 Ft tagalong then get a 26 Ft tagalong, had for 6 years and traded it in on a 28 Ft 5th wheel and ended up with a F-350 dully to pull it. You are 100% right when you say start small, start now.

I've been RVing since 1990. I've had class As, B's, C's, straight tagalongs, tagalongs with push outs tagalongs one slide 2 slides straight fifth wheels and fifth wheels with 1,. 2, and 3 slides . I've been living in campers full time in New England since 1992 . I personally like a tagalong 32' single slide bunkhouse . The bunkhouse is nice for full time camping because the bunkhouse gives you the option of storing your winter clothing during the summer and your summer clothing during the winter . Also they're easy to tow and you always have a couple comfortable.spots for overnight guests if the need presents itself . Also new construction technology provides easy towing, underbelly heating, to keep the floors warm, and your tanks from freezing . Don't forget to grab a thermostatiçly controlled Blue flame heater and a dehumidifier for the winters in New England .

Great video guys as always, very informative. One of the biggest things I've seen is something you hit on a long time ago (weight rating) more so axle weight. I've also noticed (due to my job) is a substantial disregard for tires and brakes, you did an awesome job with that before without getting to technical like I unfortunately have to lol. This is our second year RVing and we are learning as we go. Each new place has its own challenges, memories and experiences. Can’t wait to see what your new chosen rig would be!!
We are all different and that’s what makes the world go round. We pored over many websites, UA-cam videos, etc. to create what we thought would be the perfect RV for us which was a Class B Sprinter. It’s now 3 years later and have a few lessons learned. We realized we didn’t need the awning as we don’t stay anywhere for very long but we have it in case we need it. Early on I wanted to buy an RV mat and my spouse convinced me to wait. I’m glad I listened as we haven’t needed it and it would have taken up some of our precious storage. Also, our iPads with streaming services work better than our RV’s TV.

Bought a trailer for two people. Big bathroom and island kitchen .Auto legs . 50 amp dual Ac . Larado 280 rb built by Keystone . Had only one flaw. A blind on our dinette window. I bought a seven year transferable warranty . It covers everything. Great selling point. I wish I rolled a Hensley hitch into the deal .

Things have changed since you made this video... :) Demand is through the roof, availability is so limited. I just bought a minnie winnine 26T new and was able to get 25% discount, so I think I got lucky. So excited to continue following your videos.
We recently purchased an older 35 ft diesel pusher. The previous owner obviously took great pride in his rig and had the means to maintain it well. He also had already done a lot of the upgrades we wanted. We were able to buy it at a great price pay cash and find out if this is the lifestyle we want. It also gives us the opportunity to see if ultimately we want a larger or smaller rig for when we retire (6-8 yrs off) without the depreciation hit of a newer rig. So excited about the possibilities, 1st trip planned for Moab in April!
Hi, Had them all starting with a tent. The wife and I retired and found a 9 year old 36' Class A, one owner and in mint condition so we are back to a class A for our life style. Taking a long West trip this year (I hope) and spend one week at each stop to explore. Your right on as to find the rig that fits your style at that time. Good job
Just found you a few weeks ago. Really enjoy the videos. My wife and i just bought our new travel trailer last month. We spent months looking for the right one. One thing we discovered is it is difficult to find one that checks off all the boxes, just find the one that fits. Ended up building my own Camper ... maybe not the best idea for resale but arguably it has the cool factor. Easy to maintain and repair since I know it top to bottom but its very simple and very little tech. Thanks for the great vid!

This comes from a couple who started small, ended up with a beautiful Momentum and a new F450, to a Rubicon and a tiny little trailer that has two doors that open to a mattress. Returned just today from a week in a rental motorhome. In a tight campground, a fire ring was too close to the road. I nipped it, flipping it up, and it put a major gash in the tire. I’m in rural Arkansas, 10 miles from the nearest town big enough for services. But we got there, got it replaced and were back on the road in an hour. Did it crush me? Nope. I retire in August and can’t wait to go full time. This week with the rental sealed the deal for me. 😀👍🏻❤️
I am certainly a noob at RV'ing. I have decided on a travel trailer keeping it under 30'. Since I will be traveling with a dog and three cats, I need a space for two litter boxes. I like the floor plan of the Jayco Jayflight 264BH because of the storage space under the bunks for the litter boxes that will be easily cleaned from the outside. I want to primarily boondock and stay at BML and NFS lands. I'm getting close to getting started. Becoming more and more impatient every day. I'm looking more of a used rig to start with, primarily to keep the cost down getting started. The information you have provided has been very useful. Thank you. Happy Birthday, Tricia.

Very good points, go with major manufacture, popular model, put your personal extras in, and 3 years later you may get your money back on msrp giving up the extras.
Thanks for the ideas. We are still newbies, but just ordered our second rig in two years after taking the plunge and diving in during Covid in June of 2020. It is crazy right now, going to sell our old bunkhouse for what we paid for it!!

Soooooo true!!!!! Why people post an ad to sell anything (boat, house, car, RV) with only 1 or 2 photos - exterior only - and most esp. those who take the photo from a huge distance away!!!!!!

MY wife and bought a 2013 coachman TT 32 ft 2years ago after seeing one your first vides .We took it to Branson Mo and lake Maconahy Ne pluse lots of short trips. We started with a tent then a smal pop up for 12yr we wanted more room and a bathroom it is not perfict but it covered most of the boxes thank you
