ℹ️ About the Episode
Before our first RV trip, we probably would have planned for several weeks before traveling 1,600 miles. We'd likely know where we'd be staying every night, and the rig would be buttoned up and ready to roll. These days, we set out for a 1,600-mile journey at 4:45 PM without knowing where we're going to stay that night-much less the entire trip. Thus, we thought it would be helpful to share how we crossed the county in just four nights with no reservations, dry camping the entire way. In this episode, Charlie gets extra stinky by swimming with the ducks one last time and we host an event with Kunes RV of Elkhorn, which is a partner of E3 Camping. We had a dry camping event the night before with just E3 Camping members, which made for a great opportunity to get to know members better. Stay tuned for more information about E3 Camping-we're re-shaping the membership, adding benefits, and setting up rallies. Surprisingly, we made it back to Arizona in only four nights. That wasn't the plan; we were just in the mood to drive. With just the two of us (and Charlie), it was pretty easy to get up, do some work, make breakfast, and drive all day. Our entire lodging cost for those four nights was the price of a $10 mug.

Thanks for switching lane for the semi on the shoulder. 👍🏾 all too often no one never feels the need to be cautious and courteous to truckers.
20:10 wow that pilot/airplane maker in that segment was so cool. He reminded me of my dad who was a legendary aviator. A commander on the Boeing's and an instructor with many thousands of hours of flying on the left seat of the cockpit and many thousands of hours of training other commanders. This made me miss him since if he would have lived on for a few more years he'd be doing stuff like this gentleman. Being passionate about aviation and never losing touch with it. I miss you so dearly, Pa.
That was so sweet.
Wow! Some how I missed this video. What a treat this morning to find it since I already watched this weeks release. Thanks for everything you all do. We are planning out our 2023 3 to 4 month adventure. One objective is to be out of Texas due to the extreme heat during June, July, and August. In 2022 we did Banff, Jasper, Vancouver and the Washington, Oregon, and Nevada. This summer it will be the North East and Eastern Canada. You all are a heavy influence on where we go and what we plan to see. Thank you for being our tour guide. And thank you all for being you. Just love you all better then family 😂 . Hope someday to run into you all on the road so we can thank you in person.
I was just thinking I have watched you folks so long I have seen all 3 of your children grow up on screen. I enjoy a lot of different rv sites, but you and Trish are the crem dela crem of teaching, entertaining, and taking us along on your trips to so many places in the states and out of country. Thank you for the effort, time and enjoyment we recieve from each of your video's.
I though this video was great. Learn something new every time I watch you all. I have to say 750 miles in one day is a lot of driving
Miss seeing Caleb he is such a well mannered young man Be safe and Be Blessed I really enjoy all of your videos Mark and Trish
Great stuff! You were close on the name of the bush in the yard. It’s called a Red Twig Dogwood
I run a Preditor 3500 generator and i leave it in the bed of the truck with the tailgate down. Dont need to do anything else, just plug in the 30 amp cable. Runs everything. Simple, inexpensive and runs all night. Or all day plus.
Sitting in Rochester, NY and hear a guy at Iowa 80 truck stop say "we're from Rochester, NY" 😯😯 live your channel!!!! Miss Caleb's humor and wit.
That was so fun. Great to see the 80 again. It was a main stay for me when I was still driving cross country. Your home base is looking really lovely. The planting is beautiful. I'm still laughing at how the ribs turned into two nice chickens. haha have blessed week guys.
Harvest Host was the saving grace of my solo travels all over from FL to TX last winter. From distilleries on cattle prairies, to lavender farm, to brewery in Atlanta and all the way back home to WNY. You really did wing it! I made 200 miles a day and did 2 reservations at a time. This due to hosts being filled. I meandered as I was in no hurry during March to make it back to my little cabin in the woods. I had to buy 2 AGM batteries in TX and You are right about the learning process. I can't afford solar, but running my generator for awhile every day, I had no problem for a month on the gulf down in TX which was the real test.
Thank you for the work you do. I considered have a channel and it really is a lot of time, effort and commitment. Hat's off to you! BTW-no matter where I went, who I met, we all knew who you guys were and we all expressed how wonderful you and your family are. God bless you. Hope to meet you one day.
As new RV’rs you guys have been SO helpful in getting us on the road with a bit of confidence. Thank you!!!
In this video Marc refers to the water heater as a “hot” water heater. My husband kept catching me when I would say that…”why would you need to heat hot water? It’s a water heater”. So, now Marc said hot water heater” I chuckled.
Keep up the great work!!!
What a dynamic couple. Love the Dry Camp thing...great idea. Thanks for all the work you do..
Saying healing prayers for you and Lily.
Great video. My wife and I just completed a 4,300 mile/21 day round trip from our home in Tampa, FL to Sedona, AZ. 11 stays at HH. We are newbies at RVing and enjoying our 25 FBT Airstream. Your videos have been a great tool for us to learn and prepare. HH are the best but we do spend more money than we should as we love the local products 😉. We wish to do a trip up the east coast late fall, early spring. Thanks again for your videos.
Enjoyed meeting you in Elkhorn! Remember, Mark...."I'm driving 20 miles FARTHER down this road and there will be no FURTHER discussion!"
LOL! Even dry camping there's nothing on tv when scrolling through Netflix! Love you're videos and adventures!
I always ♥ Sunday evenings spent with my favorite RV family! Thanks for sharing 🥰
Cute Sandals at the E3 event Trish!!!!
Another video enjoyed. That stated. I'm just gonna come right out and say this. Trish, if we ever meet up, I'm gonna beg you to cook. Watched you cook so many wonderful looking things. That's not to say that I'm underfed by any means.:). I love the way you all did the harvest host on the fly. I brought that up to my wife, she said. A lot of harvest hosts require. 24 hours notice. I think that may be true. But at the same time, if you call it or not booked, they're probably just gonna say come on.! We tend to Reserve, reserve, reserve. And then find ourselves having to change things. This winter, right after the holiday we are heading down towards. New Mexico. And then later on going out to. Southern California to visit family and then making ourselves. A trip back? East. Not at a fast pace. I don't know that many people travel as fast as you do. But. We still are going to make our way back on a SE pattern. Most likely. At least, that's what we think. That's the great thing about this. Nothing set in stone.! Walst I'm ranting, Walst I'm ranting, I do believe. I'll ask for some advice. From folks who've traveled back and forth a bit more than we have. Will be heading east leaving Palmdale, CA. Going through Las Vegas. And then? Checking out. The edge of the Grand Canyon. Off of that glass shelf. Can't think of the name of it off the top of my head. And then who knows? We travel in a 45 foot fifth wheel. And of course, a truck. Any suggestions?? Say hey to those kids of yours. You should be proud. You've always loved watching them when we see them. And of course, totally enjoy Caleb. Of course, we can't forget Charlie. Love It when Charlie has a voice. Too funny.! Be safe. God bless.
Excellent! Your an inspiration to all us RVers. The wife and I enjoy your UA-cam s so much. Thanks for all your hard work.
36:44 That was our writing!!!! Also smiley face was done by me :)!
Thanks!
We are working on our batteries and solar now in our fifth wheel. Fall of 2024 we go full time and plan on a lot of boondocking. Enjoyed the video. Good to see the young guys work. Self sufficient. Good job parents.
We are a retired couple and we converted a 2018 Ford Transit 250 into a beautiful camper van. We have an atypical power setup. We run everything with Ecoflow lithium "solar generators". Two 1300w and one 2100 watt,. They run everything in the van including the microwave, coffee pot, MaxxAir fan, etc. We also have a DC to DC charger and have a 200w solar panel on the roof. We stay all powered up easily and it works great for us. Our van build series (non-monetized) on our channel shows how easy it was to set up. Be safe and blessings!
Always great content! I can’t imagine the discipline required to be so consistent, keep it up!
Another great video..love H H for dry camping also cracker barrel..love to go back to early videos to see the kiddos small.. KOKO keep on keeping on greetings from NC..we only have 7 states left to camp in. Love Sedona a must for everyone..love your new governor Mr.D
We Like all your videos, we have been campers for years. Your content has taught us much more than we realized. We boondock more than campgrounds. We especially liked this video.
Take care & safe travels.
Mike & Michelle from s/e Indiana
I enjoyed seeing all the places you go, all the people you meet, the scenery you see. So good to be home. The Hydrangea is beautiful. The Chicken looked delicious. Good to see Victoria home. Funny to hear Charlie talking back to you toward the end. Daisy would do that too. They're like little kids at times. Never a dull moment with KYD. Some weeks felt like Sunday would never get here. Then the time your video aired, the time goes faster. Leaving you yearning for more. I love you folks. Have a good week. High paws to Charlie.
In a converted Sprinter and just returned from a ~month "dry camping" trip to Colorado, Wyoming, and South Dakota plus drive through states, 10 in all.
Solo this trip I used about 40-45 gallons of water and never got below 72% battery. What I'm most proud of is, I did not buy a single meal, not even a cup of coffee and never paid to camp. I haven't calculated it yet, but using a few different fuel apps, I think the average paid for diesel was in the area of $4.50 per gallon. That's obscene but, relatively speaking ...
Mark is always shutting the cabinets lol! ALWAYS!
Sad to see you bypassed Nebraska...again. You’re truly missing out on a gorgeous, environmentally & culturally diverse state. Nebraska will still be here if you ever decide to head our way. ✌️
This was one of the best videos I've seen in a long time. I came for the RV talk but was mesmerized by the story telling and cinematography. My wife and I are still looking for a travel trailer so we probably should invest in the E3 membership. Best of luck in the new ventures!
Happy Sunday KYD FAMILY!!! Wishing y’all safe travels and everlasting memories!! Can’t believe how fast these kids have grown!! Blink of an eye!
Like the time-lapse pictures where the clouds roll past in the sky. Forget about the simple things in life, until you are reminded in a video like yours. Thank you.
It was great seeing you guys in Wisconsin! Worth the rainy 45 minute drive to Elkhorn to see you and finding our new RV!! You were both so gracious with everyone even when just walking by, making eye contact and saying hello.
Also nice to see the camping community from all walks of life in different stages of their life all having two things in common, camping and being your fans. Wish we could have stayed all day.
I always look forward to opening my email on Sunday afternoons, to read your comments and view your video for the week. I have enjoyed all of your videos for the last several years and I have learned a lot about RV'ing, which have kept me out of trouble many times. Your RV equipment summaries and recommendations have also been very beneficial, including having access to your Amazon webpage. We started watching your videos shortly after punching our first RV towable trailer, which we kept for 3 years, before moving up to a Solitude 5th wheel. We have increased our RV travels by 50% and, have met a lot of new friends. Thank you!
Its so funny to hear you say "Watson Lake". My home town is Prescott, but we are living down in Surprise now. Love the channel. Keep Going.....
We are so sad seeing this...we can see the Erie Airpark from our house, you could have come and hand a fire with us....can't believe you were right there and we missed you!!
Wendy and I love your videos. As full timers now going on 4 years we still learn and get inspiration from you both. Blessings and safe travels to you and yours always!
We are finally rolling but we are west when your south and south and now your west. But thank you for the many ideas and fun place’s you have given us to see. See you when we see you! thank you for you dream which is now ours too!
Hey! That’s awesome to hear someone mention Rochester. I’m also from Rochester NY.
Hey Marc- not to make you too jealous, but we have TWO of those Giant horns on our Beaver! :) -Thanks for telling me where to get replacements!
Also: Thank you for mentioning CPAP. Not many people think that those Jackery, can be plugged into your RV, and your CPAP plugged into the Jackery. and then the Jackery can be charged when you run your Generator, or off your solar to capacity, and then the Jackery can act as a UPS for your CPAP at night! Also, I Actually use my Professional video camera batteries to run my CPAP off a custom built adapter from and Anton-Bauer gold mount to 12v cigarette lighter plug. Then I just charge the Anton-Bauer batteries using the charger off of the inverter or Generator.
Recognized that Iowa visitors center!
We’re based near Kansas City and that drive southwest through Kansas and the NW parts of OK and TX are long and have to be brutal in the summer!!
Love your travels.. the perfect balance between being informative and scenery❣️hey these little solar generators will be great for storm recovery victims too.. southwire is in Georgia where I'm from...
Yep, Traveling with a home base or two is the best of both worlds!!
Erie Airpark was the first harvest host we ever stayed at. We arrived pretty late and they had us park in their front yard! Super nice people and great stop between Chicago and Des Moines!
At my Trek dealership the average rider does not come to store that much but the riders on high end bikes come back and buy new bikes more often.
Just catching up to this video. Awesome video!!! Loved the plane shots and the dry camping tips!
Welcome to Being a Florida resident! Great video! Lots of fun!
I mop the same way 🤫 I love that Charlie ate the trash - makes me feel less bad on our dog training lack of success… We’ve been doing a lot of dry camping and checking the battery percent is that daily thing I let Jim check & figure out what we need to do.
I kept thinking that Carson would have enjoyed talking with the HH gentleman about airplanes. Hopefully you can return so he can talk with him. I believe the variegated shrub in your front yard of your house is a red branched dogwood. I have a similar one and it's a halo variety.
I always look forward to 5 o'clock on Sunday to watch your video. Thanks.
So glad I found you guys! Screw Netflix!!!
You know where to find us at 7:00 on Sunday waiting on another great video
I usually mop my floors with a swiffer mop and I use Clorox wipes and I tear out three at a time and then it wrap it around and snug it inside the holes on top and that’s how I mopped my RV floors
Really informative. I have done some dry camping with our TT. Not my favorite, but it can be done. Our current TT (Aerolite couples coach) does not have as many windows as I would like, so the A/C is needed most nights. We traveled from our home in Rochester, MN to Palm Desert, CA and back in January in our TV (no TT), which is a Cadillac Escalade, and an enclosed trailer to bring back some of my folk's belongings from the CA home. Fun to see some of the same sights you saw. I-80 in IA (not from this recent trip, but I have driven it many times), Dodge City backroads and Hwy 56, and Santa Fe. We really enjoyed Flagstaff and know why you enjoy the high country of AZ. Great video.
One word: KANSAS! ♥️ Yeah there's not much excitement here, but it was exciting to know you drove through. And we were relieved you had a cool night dry camping at Paxico. Anyway, fun video to watch from start to finish.
We wash dishes in a plastic container in the sink. When done, we dump the water down the toilet. Black tank never fills up like the grey tank.
Very good video. Talking my wife into a new "HORN" for our truck. Funny to see you met someone at the I-80 stop fro Rochester, NY. I'm 20 minutes east in Victor, NY. Love that Truck Stop!
I can't remember ever seeing Trish look so excited as she did pulling up to your home in the mountains: delight was all over her face.
It's amazing how much knowledge you've acquired since you first began this channel. Keep up the good work! I'm guessing the move to FL was for tax purposes.
We stayed in Paxaco at that Harvest Host in April. The restaurant down the road delivered both dinner and breakfast to us! Happy travels!
Have you ever come up to the Maine Airstream Rally? I’m up camping in Brownfield for our annual Saco river trip and there are HUNDREDS of airstreams at the Fryeburg Fairgrounds. It is unbelievable how many silver bullets are in one place!!
"THANKS" TRISH And MARC, and CHARLIE, Keep on truckin. Rockford, ill 🇺🇲👀🐕
My dad said you guys are RV Royalty 👑!
I agree 👍😎
Thank you for sharing, entertaining and educating.
Great to see my boondocker friends and i see you own the best smoker made love mine an if you haven't tried it throw a pizza on the rec tec Boys will love it. Great video as always when back in Ga. stop in again a few. And a great place for the Bird to retire to.
We love your content every video! It is always so helpful and uplifting - makes us want to go, go, go!😂😂
I'm thinking being independent from most thing's, living off the sun as much as we can with our 7x14 cargo trailer, just a place to keep things, get out of the weather and enjoy what Mother Nature has to offer and meeting great people in our travels, not to do it as a life style, but just to get away as long as we like and then comes home to a place where one enjoys it just as much as being on the road, well, I feel getting the most out of life as one can b4 life get my wife and I, because we're only here for a short time when we realize really how short life really is LOL GREAT Video keep them coming
I love your videos, but this video was one of my favorites. Taking us dry camping for 5+ days was so wonderful to watch and get your insider tips. And a peek at you at the KYD cabin. I did miss Caleb. Thank you for your great videos.
Oh gee at least in this video I got to see more of Charlie. Yea! He is so loveable. Hugs to him. So happy that all the kids are at home so you can spend family time together. Those are wonderful memories as well. Enjoy being an arm chair travler with you. Thank you so much. Love y'all
So often we watch the various solar install videos, generator reviews, learn about places to stay, and explore rv essentials. It was a great idea to dedicate a long review of everything working together. One of your best and most applicable video efforts. WELL DONE😀
Charlie is so absolutely adorable. My girl dog's do the same thing, they get in the trash.
Wow, busy, entertaining video……AGAIN! Cheers from Canada!!
LOVE IT! Always teaching - always learning!
Thanks for always being so excited to share everything you know. It really helps everyone looking to start this lifestyle. So excited just a few short years and our family should be doing similar trips!
I’m thinking y’all need a KYD cabin in Michigan. 🥰
Oh my gosh! My dad and I flew ultralights when I was a kid. I absolutely loved seeing that. Thank you for the memory❣️
Another edit as I make further into the video…lol Welcome to Florida! I didn’t realize you changed residency, so excited to have you here!
We love Harvest Host. We traveled from VA to Washington State last summer going mostly from Harvest Host to Harvest Host. We stopped at Iowa 80 as well. Big place. It was the first time we ever saw a do it yourself dog wash. Loved the popup truck camper and air stream. We have a 38 foot Monaco and pull a Palomino Popup Truck Camper to explore places that we cannot go with our big girl. We had a blast traveling across. Hope that you had as much fun as we did. Mary💕Fred
Just bought a Jackery 1000 so I can dry camp/boon dock and use my CPAP… good timing on mentioning that!
We had a flat on I-70 in Paxico a couple of years ago on our way to Colorado. The amazing folks at the Valero station helped us out with a tool so we could get the tire changed and back on the road. That turned into a good memory for us! We haven't used Harvest Host yet. We are weekend and vacation time warriors. Hopefully someday we will be out there full time on the road. Thanks for all the inspiration!
I am SO looking forward to the vacation rental videos!!!!!!!!
Great trip! I love Santa Fe. It's where I flew those fighter jets. Carson would love it. Be well and stay safe!
Great to see all you needed to do to monitor your power over the course of a 4 or 5 day trip. Very real time skills for a trip. Loved the "the stuff we need to do on a trip" when it is a "getting there faster" type of trip.
Great video , We were very surprised to see my wife and I during our interview at the E3 event, we really enjoyed meeting 'yall in Elkhorn Wis. ...
Enjoyed the "balancing act" involved in successfully dry camping all the way home! Going to try and do the same thing next month from Highlands Ranch, CO to Banff, AB.
Great content. Love the wood on the fence at the cabin. Have been admiring that for a while. Happy to have you guys make a home base in the sunshine state.
Gotta love Harvest Host locations! Fun!
Our oldest daughter lives in Cedar Rapids so we drive by Iowa 80 all the time, we live just north of Champaign Illinois.
That looked like a really nice afternoon on the airfield👍
Something different.
Fun video. We almost always dry camp. Even though we may be in A campground the powered sites are hard to come by. Since we are in AZ we go to the Grand Canyon and on the Mogollon Rim most of the time. We have a Jackery too. It is a game changer and we love it. One tip we use for dry camping is we do the dishes in a plastic tub and dump it down the toilet. We never fill up the black tank but the grey can fill up quickly especially with showers. Keep the great content coming
While you were flipping through your guest book, I saw the page that my son filled out after our great stay at the cabin.
We just got a Jackery! Came in handy when our FL State Park power kept going out due to low voltage. Plugged our big box fan into the Jackery!
I (rick) run my CPAP off a portable battery bank like the one you showed. I charge my iPhone, Apple Watch and run my CPAP all night and you can charge it during the day in your 12V plug in.
Glad to see you were in Illinois. My in laws have a camper at Fish Lake Beach, wish we could've met the two of you. Maybe another time in the future. Safe travels.
Yes! More vacation rental info!
Thanks for bringing us along!
I missed Caleb and his antics. I’ll bet Charlie missed him too!🐾❤️🐾
I love these "Day In The Life" videos. I also love when you two have conversations like one of those last podcasts. They're fun, informative and relevant, so any time you get to throw one out there, I'm all ears. No need to bring back the full podcast- you're too busy, but if you ever have time for an hour of conversation on life/goals/self betterment, it's a treat any time. I'm trying to learn your skill of stopping before it's way late in the day when we're traveling long distances several days in a row, especially returning home. It's another learned skill, but if we stop at 3:30, I can't relax for thinking, "we could have done another 100 miles", especially on the home stretch. We laugh that we're like 2 old horses heading for the barn - we can give the Beeline Queen a run for her money, LOL! Have a great week!
That horn is $171 on amazon too. Nice to see the truck stop is offering a fair price.
Another awesome KYD Sunday video
Have a 2024 33' Classic FBT on order and a 2024 F-350 Limited (White) 6.7 HO on order. Binge Watching your channel! Excellent.
Great video! My best friend drove truck over the road. and has been to that truckstop on 80. He told me about it. I am dying to go there. Great content I loved it Mark and Trish!
