    Awesome video, as always! After adding the pine-sol/calgon solution to each tank I go back and add a capful to each drain so it sits in the p-trap. Smells great and I think it keeps the traps cleaner.

    Great video as always. In regards to the issue with the collapsed sewer hose getting "lost" in the much longer under belly hose carrier, I came up with a solution. I took a pool noodle and cut it down and put it in the opposite side. That prevents the hose from sliding too far in and having to fish it out. Keep up the great stuff and hope Caleb is recovering.

    You two are the best!!! We are new to RV life and never done anything like this before. We live in New Zealand, so things are a bit different here and we can't get all the products you can, and the facilities will be quite different, but you have given us so many pointers and advice. We have been parked up for three months in our new USA travel trailer, while hubby still working and so that we get used to how things operate in an RV and to get everything sorted for this new venture (full-time as we sold our house). We should be on the road within the next month when hubby retires. We are excited to explore our beautiful country. Thank you both for sharing - you are such fun and I love watching your videos - really appreciate your generosity.

    Watching him licking brownie mix from his fingers after talking about the black water system and her mentioning a poopsie. PRICELESS! The last thing you should want after dealing with your RV’s septic system? Anybody? Anybody? BROWNIES! It was great to see Charley being spoiled and playing at the end you guys enjoy your time on the road.

    We usually dump our dishwater into the toilet as it seems to help break down that poop pyramid some people get. Seems to keep our sensors working better too. We use the flusher in our trailer system before we unhook the sewer so it's as clean as possible before we head out.

    Hey thanks for all the hints! My sensors have never been accurate. From day one! 🤷🏽‍♀ It does bug me after I empty both black and gray that they don't say 0%. I mean, you do that work, you want the gratification of seeing 0%! I've done all the tank blaster stuff, etc. It's a Sprinter van (Pleasure-Way Ascent) with very small tankage, so I dump whenever I can. And a secret--- it's only #1. I've had many van peeps admit to this practice. Another resource for dump stations is your Garmin GPS device if you have the RV version. I have the Garmin 1095 and love it.
    So, hope to see you out there! Cheers!!

    I’m at a little over ten years of RVing. I’ve made a ton of sewer mistakes. I’ve found with my newest rig I times how long each tank takes to drain into no more liquid flows which is 7 minutes gray and 7 minutes black so now I open the black set an alarm for 7 minutes on my phone when it goes off I turn on black tank flush reset alarm 7 minutes shut off flush open gray reset alarm alarm goes off pack everything up. My stupid sensors have worked properly every time now. Now the trouble with my rig is the last two minutes are a trickle and when I was in glacier national park an older lady came and knocked on my window while I was planning directions and said “your tank has been done for five minutes so pack it up” I went outside my watch still said 2 minutes left and there was the trickle in my hose still trickling so I got back to my directions. Lucky for her they didn’t have a water hookup
    For black water flush and I was out of fresh water so I had to skip that step. That’s the first and only time I’ve seen someone slightly rude in a campground. I’m the captain of efficiency and getting and staying out of peoples way and remaining courteous so I was almost offended with the lady because I use a timer and am always worried I’m in the way. Also I found the shorter version of Ninja Foodie to cook and air fry most evenly and fits a lot better into a camper. I actually modified and drawer with a flip down drawer face and pull it out when in use. Let it cool and put it back. It’s also under the fridge which is a well vented area.

    I’ve seen cameras be put into black tanks and the sani flush that is already on the RVs work just as good as the other attachments people can get. It’s not necessary to buy an extra flush item if the RV is already equipped.

    Looks like I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue.....the black tank is most rvrs nemesis. For me I'm a 20 mule team borax fan. Keep a spray can of cheap vegetable oil with your sewer hoses. I use it on my 90 degree screw on fitting going into the in-ground campground sewer fitting. Knocks most of the debris off and makes it easy to screw in.

    We have been watching and enjoying KYD for years. Your tips on handling the black tank are great. But one to add: make sure you take the plug out of the black hose! On one of our early trips I missed. I did not flush a drop of grey to start and went for the black. We were then into the process of no flow and a hose full of black. Amazingly, I sorted this with no spills and not too much odor! My wife and I still laugh about this today whenever someone says black tank! 😂

    I have to say that the little "stool" is cool. As you were sitting on it around 9:30 into the video, it almost looked as if you were doing your business as you were doing your business. :) We have been lucky. In 500 nights or so on the road we have only had 1 "semi poopsie" for lack of a better description. One of the clips on the hose failed, but thankfully, I think anyway, my hand was still on black valve, so needless to say it got pushed back in even quicker than it had been pulled. Continued safe travels....

    ** Our Kleen Tank rep said NOT to use original pine sole due to the actual pine oil causing things to stick. He said to used one of the scented pine sold like lavender***
    We switched to the same homemade tank treatment after the same company cleaned our tanks. We’d been using liquify and the “peanut butter” that had accumulated was copious and disgusting. 🤢🤮
    I will say to use the back flow technique they teach along with the built in Sani-flush that comes installed on your camper to remove the most amount of “stuff”. I’ll back flow, then use the Sani-flush a few times each time I empty our tanks. It takes a bit of time, but definitely helps clean out the tank. We also put back in 15 gallons of clean water along with the treatment after flushing.
    I also spray the soles of my shoes with a bleach solution after using dump stations.

    When we RV'ed we would place dawn dishwashing soap in our tank and add water and when we were traveling the tanks would get washed. When we returned, we would take a hose, place it in a black tank and move it around, empty the tank, and repeat. We would always have a little water with Dawn dishwashing soap in the tank. Never did we have smells.

    • @2021-j2d
      @2021-j2d 3 години тому

      We’ve always used a little Dawn mixed w Calgon liquid, never knew of the pearls before, and water. I think 30+ years ago we old time Airstreamers called it the geo method. Has worked great for us for decades, never a smelly odor in any of our rigs, and still doing it today. I can’t tolerate the scent of Pine Sol so will continue doing what has been our go to.
      God Bless Caleb in his recovery. All of you are in my prayers. It isn’t an easy or fast recovery but it’s possible. I’ve recently gone through similar surgery so wish him well. Hugs.

  • @michellekrantz4541
    @michellekrantz4541 2 години тому

    When you’re traveling a long distance or possibly bad roads, how much water do you hold in your freshwater tank?
    I know when we’re dry camping and we know we’re going right to a certain spot we will fill the tank. But if we’re going a long ways, and the roads could be possibly very bumpy,, we only put enough water in the tanks to flush the toilet.
    Would like to know how much water you carry and if anyone else could comment that would be great.
