  • So a big update on whats happening on different fronts, a first chance for viewers who have not watched my live streams on the end to end layout to see how its coming now with just a few very short clips from the streams to fill you in. How is the EWS class 60 doing and why it could not pull a train after getting fixed and then a short running session with the two 60,s along with a class 55 Deltic and a steam train. At the end an update on this update to bring you all to know where we are now.

      Hi Tony,
      Thanks very much for watching and your very nice comments a new update on Friday precided by a short video update on things away from the railway at 6.30pm. Hope you are ok and the building is going well.
      Cheers Robert.

    Well Robert, glad your foot is on the mend... i did make it to the end of the update👍🏻 the end to end looks great straight like you've done now... stay safe buddy Neil 🚂👍🏻

      Hi Neil,
      I ran the Jinty today on the end to end and it ran well with only one connection so when all done should be as reliable as the loft one so cheers for watching and your very nice comments you also keep safe and well.
      Cheers Robert.

    Hi Robert…The end to end is coming along nicely. I like the changes you’ve made. I know it’s tempting to keep making changes. But as they say ‘don’t let perfect get in the way of good’ 😂
    Hope your foot continues to improve. See you soon
    Regards…. Steve 👍

      HI Steve,
      Yes the last layout is I think the one all be it with a little bit added to the fiddle yard. I have the point I needed and have connected it up and run the 0-6-0 Jinty slowly over it and by and large she did well with only one connection in place so more in the next update. I thank you so much for watching and your very nice comments.
      Cheers Robert.

    Hi Robert
    I hadn’t caught your Livestreams so missed the end to end build and the foot saga . Hope the foot gets sorted and the end to end is a nice new project .
    I agree with you that the hobby is alive and well . I was at the Erith show today and the were plenty of people at all ages there .
    Cheers Kev

      Hi Kev,
      I did think of going to the Erith show but the 150mile round trip + dartford crossing + foot deceided me otherwise but hope a video from you on it. I thank you very much for watching and your very nice comments and yes I know some of my viewers do not like live streams hence doing this on the end to end one I will be doing updates on it as videos in future so hope you will follow them. Looking at that railway show in the USA on the live streams yes this hobby is far from dead and the interest in GETS and all the shows around the UK it is here to stay.
      Cheers Robert.

      Yes it’s a bit of a trip indeed.
      I didn’t take any footage as I thought there will be more talented people to do that 😄😄

    I was at first thinking I'd have to put up with no steamies running, as I willingly do to make you happy. Lord Nelson poking her smokebox out of the tunnel made me do a quick-smart double take. I have an update of my own. Every year, one new unkind critic gets at me in my comment boxes. I've done everything I should, but the unkind criticism just carries on. So, as I've said in my post, I may not upload any more videos for a while. That doesn't mean I'm not gonna watch your videos ever again, I'll always watch them whether you include steamies running or not. You're a handsome old man, and I admire everything you do. I think I need a "When it all goes Wrong" episode, just to make me laugh. It's so funny when wagons topple off the track unintentionally.

      Hi Kelly,
      Yes thought you might like Lord Nelson as have not run her for a while but very pleased you are still watching our video's so along with your very nice comments thank you. I have just run the Jinty on the end to end layout which was nice. Hope you are all keeping well there and January almost over were does the time go!.
      Cheers Robert.

    That last layout looks a lot more functional, quite an improvement on the previous. Nice little running session in the loft as always.
    Hope your foot gets better soon and look forward to the next update.

      Hi Roy,
      Yes the last layout is I think the one I will go with but with a bit added to the fiddleyard so I have connected it up and run my Jinty over it and she ran well so watch out for the next update to see as always thank you very much for watching and your very nice comments. A visit back to the doc next week I think but the foot is good I can walk on it without the pain I had at the beginning hence this video.
      Cheers Robert.

    Hello Robert!
    Watched this the other day, but was on the run and did not get a chance to comment. First off, we are glad to hear the foot is finally on the mend. I do hate when you find something you need at an online shop or such and they make you join their system and make an account (trains and many other things)- just means so many more junk mailings. Wonderful work and change-ups on the end-to-end. The new iteration will definitely suit you better and have better aesthetics.. Nice work on the switch function, too! It was very cool to see some running in the loft again, but that Class 60 is a story, isn't it? What an adventure it has been! Cheers and all the best!! A & J

      Hi Anthony,
      As the saying goes "better late than never" so thank you so much for watching and this very nice comment and your right the last end to end layout is the one I am going with all be it with a tweek to the fiddleyard so will show what I did in the next update, but I have put some power into it and ran the 0-6-0 Jinty which ran well even with only one connection. Nice to see you in Andy's stream and watching your big train show there its rather big is it not have you been to it now or in the past? The 60 did well so hope all will now be ok but if not can take it apart blind folded I think. Keep well and safe over there and hope home life gets nice and calm for you all.
      Cheers Robert.

    Hi Robert, good to hear your foot is on the mend. I really like your platform level filming, its great to see the Trains running through the stations. I like your final end to end layout,certainly more track in the fiddle yard for longer rakes. I think you will have many hours of pleasure shunting the wagons around. You can also use Gas Welding Rods to operate the points and run them in sleeves of tubing as you have shown. Your right about the hobby not being in total decline, there is still a huge following. As you said its all down to whether manufacturers can make affordable Locos. Cheers, Paul.👍👍👍

    • @robertstrainset6556
      @robertstrainset6556  6 місяців тому +1

      Hi Paul,
      Thanks for watching and you very nice comments and can the gas welding rods bend as thats why I like the cable as it can and I will need to have it bending in some places.
      Cheers Robert.

    • @paulvozman842
      @paulvozman842 6 місяців тому +1

      Hi Robert, yes the gas welding rods bend easily and are the perfect diameter at 1.5mm. I have 4 of my points using this rod from the servo solenoid to the points ranging from around 75 to100mm in length as its quite rigid. On one of my points I actually gently push and pull a length of GW rod by hand as I couldnt fit a solenoid. You can also use Heatshrink tubing cut into short sleeves and hot glue them to the base board to run the rod through. Cheers, Paul.

      @@paulvozman842 Thanks for the reply as I have the twin and earth already will use it and some of my runs will need to be over 305mm(1foot) long so as you saw with my demo bit it works.
      Cheers Robert.

    Hi Robert it was good to hear from you about your foot so glad it's getting better. That 55 does have a lovely grunt sound i believe we can't get that earthy sound in n gauge, well not yet. I think the last plan for the end to end layout was more usable. Have a good week or two. Colin

    • @robertstrainset6556
      @robertstrainset6556  6 місяців тому +1

      Hi Colin,
      Yes your right the last layout plan is the one I am going with but have just done a tweek to the fiddleyard which I will show in the next update but I have connected it to the Railmaster and run my Jinty 0-6-0 and for a first time and with only one connection she ran well. As always cheers very much for watching and your very nice comments and I am always amazed how much tecno stuff is fitted in to n gauge so I am sure better speakers will come and now with Ai things will expand a lot faster lets hope we all survive it!!!. The foot is a bit up and down so another visit to the doc to see if the Xray shows anything. I hope you are well and the layout is progressing and an update from you soon.
      Cheers Robert.

    Hi Robert I always watch to the end lol. Glad your foot is healing firstly. It's all looking good mate. Small end to ends always pose a problem because we try and put too much on them I suppose to make it more interesting. You asked for ideas well personally I would ditch a couple of tracks, 1 at the loading bay especially and you'd probably benefit from it, having said that it's your layout and you need to build it for you not anyone else. Is the hobby dying, no. Why, well I always liked my trainset as a kid, I became a teenager, found girls, disco's cars etc. Then got married, played sports, then got older and thought I need another hobby I'll go back and build that model railway layout I always wanted as a kid, I think that's what most do, hence the hobby has an ageing demographic. Most teenager's have other things on their minds rather than playing with toy trains but they come back to it. Here endeth today's sermon 😂 keep going Robert the layout will come together cheers Andy

    • @robertstrainset6556
      @robertstrainset6556  6 місяців тому +1

      Hi Andy,
      Yes exactly I at the age of 67 found toy trains again and here we are and that will continue I would think. As always thank you for watching and your very nice comments and also for staying to the end as I do for all the ones I look at. The comments on the end to end layout yes I see what you mean but I want as much usage out of it even if the scenics suffer and if you have an unloading "shed" you do need somewhere to hold the wagons near to it hence the 2 lines, so what you see at the end of this video with this track plan I am happy with all be it with a small extra in the fiddleyard and I have connected it up and run the Jinty over it and worked well and only with one connection so a new update will come in due course so hope you will watch along with a lot of others.
      Cheers Robert.

    Glad to learn your foot is getting better! I don't think the hobby is in decline as people will find ways around the high prices of new locos etc. For example they could buy second hand or just make do with the their existing stock. However, the prices of new locos might increase even more if the ships coming out of China unable to use Suez and have to reroute around South Africa. Having said that - manufactures need to realise that people have other things on their mind regarding their finances such as the ever increasing 'costs of living,' household bills, mortgages and the like which seem to rapidly increase overnight. You are right when you comment on the details of locomotives - do we really need so much nice detailing? Cheers Robert and take care!

      Hi Malcolm,
      Yes your right about ships not using the red sea route even more so after todays news but lets hope they all work together and absorb the costs so we don't have to. Thank you for watching and your very nice if some what sad comments as I say we can only hope I hope you are keeping well and running trains.
      Cheers Robert.

      Cheers Robert.

    I think we`re safe in the hobby for a few more years, I think it`s best you`ve had a change round on the layout, it always takes a few dry runs to get something your happy with, your toes look quite swollen.

    • @robertstrainset6556
      @robertstrainset6556  6 місяців тому

      Hi Clive,
      Yes the toes were a bit swollen when I took the picture but a lot better now but still some pain from the foot so will be back to the doc next week and see if the Xray shows anything. The layout that was at the end of this is I think the one although I have added a bit to it, I connected it up to Railmaster and ran the Jinty all "around" and she ran well even with only one connection. So another update video will come at some stage. Your doing well with most of your buys but things going wrong are a way of life are they not but well done, you must soon have enough items to get on with your build now that should be interesting to watch keep safe and buying.
      Cheers Robert.

    Thanks for the video buddy. I like the Hornby Class 60 models and I agree with you about eh hobby. It will not go away otherwise we would not be getting model trains like the Cavalex Models Class 60 and the recently released Class 56. I am mostly into BR era but I do like the DB Cargo Class 60's although sadly the real things are being stood down. However GBRF and DC Rail are keeping theirs in service.

      Hi,
      Cheers very much for watching and your very nice comments and having a train set I can run whatever I like and if the "branding" is old it does not matter its so nice to see them running but other modellers spend money and time re branding theres and thats were the hobby is so good it allows us to do what we want. As for its demise just look at the big show in the USA this W/E and does it look as though it will!!!!!.
      Cheers Robert.

The layout at the end of this is the one I think I am happy with all be it with an addition to the fiddleyard, I have connected it up and ran my 0-6-0 Jinty over it and she ran well and this with only one connection to the track so now I am continueing with the build for the next update.
      Cheers Robert.
