  • So with the single point wires in and ok in this can I get the single wire to operate two points together? Then time to turn the baseboard over & around and get the track back from the shed and pin it down to do the tests before in another video in the future sticking it down and wiring it up. But do I get a train running in this one?

    I'm watching some of your recent videos with fascination, and admire your patience and skills in building this layout. In the test run, I was impressed by the 'flowing' movement of the tank engine hauling the coal truck, which replicates the real thing so much more convincingly than the model engines of my day! I shall try to work my way through the backlog of your UA-cam postings, as time permits. Very best wishes to you - John

      Hi John,
      Thank you very much for watching and your very nice comments glad you liked it and I hope you find some of my other videos you like. Another video on this new build will come soon.
      Cheers Robert.

    Hi Robert
    you really have a lot of ingenuity and precision in making your railways. Excellent practical explanation on how you made the switches which will surely have a long life. No more burnt coils to replace, no more replacing the switches but great fun in maneuvering the switches yourself .Big like my friend,have a great week end,alberto 🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😊😊😊😊

      Hi Alberto,
      Glad you liked it cheers for watching and your very nice comments and it is going well so far so now beginning to glue the track down so something new for me to do another video will come at some stage but two at once is no more as up todate now.
      Cheers Robert.

    Hi Robert, instead of stiff wire as a replacement to the copper, try brass tubing that will fit over the copper wire as the stiffener. It'll go through your existing hole in the edge of the board, and can be epoxied into the wooden knob. It will prevent the knob from bending the wire, you can either leave the wire inside the tube if you can slide it all the way through, or cut it a bit short and solder it underneath the layout. Alternatively, you could replace the ends of the wire with scrap pieces of nickel silver rail. I've sucessfully used that in the past to stiffen up point rodding on a layout.

      Hi,
      Thanks for watching and your very interesting comments as the plastic tubing is hot glued through the layout edge and will only take 1.5mm thickness through it is there brass tubing that small but yes if and its a big if the wire should break all the ideas I had from you all will help a lot but I am hopeful that it will be fine!!!!.
      Cheers Robert.

      Hi Andy,
      Well as your the only one to comment on the engines running so far I will as I have filmed some show a very short bit in the next video and far from taking me away from the work its useful for a reference for later on to see how they run. Cheers again for watching and your very nice comments another video will arrive at platform one at some stage just like the real railway at the moment!!!!
      Cheers Robert.

      Hi Allan,
      Yes it is coming along ok and I have started sticking the track down which is a whole new experience for me. As usual Lord Al thank you for watching and your very nice comments which come from a very TOP man to one maybe not so but cheers all the same.

    Fascinating system you have got there Robert and only time will tell if the house wire is durable enough but you could consider using copper tubing at some later stage. The laptop table made out of old wardrobe material is a brilliant and I might pinch that idea from you and Roy. Great running session and will give you hours of fun! Looking forward too the next video. Cheers for now Malcolm

      Hi Malcolm,
      I think this system has delivered what I wanted and with using it more I am pleased I did it. Thanks for watching and your very nice comments another video is in production and will appear in due course but I did a post showing some photo's from it have a look. As for the wire I think that although it does bend as I said its not far enough to break it or thats what I hope time will tell.
      Cheers Robert.

    Hello Robert, I have just finished watching back to back ep 12 & ep 13.
    Brilliant work and thought with the fitting of the point levers.
    In ep 13 I really learnt a lot, and actually enjoyed the episode.
    I hope the knobs don't fail you cos to turn the boards over again would be a pain, especially if you have everything fitted and scenics layed.
    Have a well deserved rest mate. You have done your channel series proud.
    ATB Neil

      Hi Neil,
      Yes I am pleased with my point system and it will be the wire that fails so piano wire has been suggested if it does fail but as it cannot bend much I think it will be fine!!! Cheers for watching and your very nice comments and great if I have increased your knowleage thats what YT is about a lot of the time as for taking it easy No14 is nearly done so will upload that in the future and about to start 15 but I will now not do two at once anymore as up todate now. Hope you are all keeping well over there and filming all the trains HO/OO and one to one for us to see.
      Cheers Robert.

    Well your hard work seems to be paying off, nice that we can see a train running on it. Glad to see the laptop shelf worked out for you and thanks for crediting it with me. As someone else mentioned piano wire might work ok as its springy.

    • @robertstrainset6556
      @robertstrainset6556  5 місяців тому +1

      Hi Roy,
      Yes its slowly taking shape as now beginning to glue track down so no going back and if you can get the piano wire that is no thicker than 1.5 mm then it could work if needed. Cheers for watching and your very nice comments another video will come at some stage but two at once is over as we are in the here and now thankfully.
      Cheers Robert.

    Hi Robert. fascinating stuff. You have far more patience then me but you have given me plenty of inspiration to get on with my layout. I think I will use a couple of above layout mounted point motors to operate my main points (when I get that far). Thank you for sharing this. Oh and wouldn`t it be good to invent some boiled egg "gloves" specially made so you don`t burn your hands when getting in to the egg. I had to laugh at the bread knife in the washing machine.

    • @robertstrainset6556
      @robertstrainset6556  5 місяців тому +1

      Hi Philip,
      The surface point motors work well as you have seen on my loft layout and they are not to much money and don't need all the fancy electronics of the others so good luck with those and you can't get on with those until you start building your layout and the sooner you start the earlier you will be able to play trains thats why I am getting on with this one. Cheers for watching and your very nice comments and a new one is in progress but look at my post for some photos from it. The washing machine is a case of the mouth in operation before the brain when filming.
      Cheers Robert.

    I have a Rapido model engine, a new recruit who has joined my steam fleet. She's a plain green 0-6-0 Hunslet Saddle Tank Engine. Her original name is Thorne No. 1, but she and I decided we didn't like that name. I found and bought a new pair of nameplates from Silver Tay Models, ebay, and she's now named Becky. She runs smoothly and quietly, and has a bright firebox glow. Hope you can solve 1501's stalling problem.

      Hi Kelly,
      The 15XX is ok it just needs the droppers connected and all will be fine. Thanks again for watching both of them tonight along with your very nice comments and its nice you have an addition to your fleet keep well.
      Cheers Robert.

    I'm thinking large diameter piano wire, 3/16"? soldered to the copper wire. 395 for a test run😁 should just fit buffer to buffer😏👍👍

    • @robertstrainset6556
      @robertstrainset6556  5 місяців тому

      Hi,
      3/16 no good will not go through sleve that is hot glued in and polyfillered but good try needs to be a lot thinner max 1.5mm back to you. Cheers for watching and your very nice comments as for the 395 maybe the powercars in for work!!!!
      Cheers Robert.
