    Awesome video! very clear and well narrated. I have a 2009 and after the :"Dieselgate" mod that was done by the local dealer, my mpg has been dropping like a rock, the DPF light & and check engine light have illuminated, and now the fan runs for about 12 minutes after you shut the car off. Man, I have to do something and I have been told to do a DPF and EGR delete and that will get my mileage back up into the 50's. What ia your opinion of that idea? ( Plus cleaning the intake manifold) I love your channel and have subscribed so keep the great content coming.

      I do appreciate your kind words. Thank you Sir. Yeah the new ones are smothered with all the pollution restriction crap. Those cars in Europe get great mileage without all the added junk.
      My personal opinion, if the state you live in does care about check engine light as far as inspection, DPF and EGR delete is a must. Your Mpg will blow your mind afterwards.

    • @VikingsGarage
      @VikingsGarage  3 роки тому +4

      But unfortunately after doing those your car will have a check engine light on. But there is another way around that, there are companies that can flash your computer to run with those mods without the check engine light. 🤷🏼‍♂️
      I hope this helps.

    • @davestaley294

      If you have a check engine light you may be running in Limp Mode that puts the care in safe operation mode that is very inefficient. Get the CEL off and your mileage should improve. I just had an issue much like that but it was the flapper valve. Lost 25% on mileage until it was fixed. Motor operated fine but terrible MPG.

    I sprayed Oven cleaner in through my egr while in situ, I’m guessing it filled the inlet manifold too
    It struggled to start then blew an almighty amount of crap out.
    2003 beetle 1.9 ATD PD
    It ran fine with no faults but now it runs better.
    I did blank my egr but reconnected it after disconnecting it threw up the engine light and my MPG dropped severely (we don’t need that with todays fuel prices)
    So after the oven cleaner treatment, egr connected again my mpg has gone right up 👍🏼👍🏼
    Edit, I blanked the vacuum pipe to the egr not the egr body piece

  • @richardgg2889
    @richardgg2889 10 місяців тому +2

    Engine load makes the biggest difference in how much it gets clogged up. I had it clogged up like 5 times less, just a quarter inch thick. It really depends how a person drives the car. Low RPM (1300-1600) driving makes it clog up very fast. I drove my car always around 2000 RPM and up and it pays. Gotta say it had 250k km when I cleaned it. Another thing that clogs it up is oil leak from turbo or crankcase valve, which makes the oil sucked through the intake and it makes these nasty big chunks.

      Best mod I did to my car was 1.5" lift spacers and biggest oversize tires that could fit. Mpg took a hit and noticeably more roll but trade off was well worth it for me. @@thedolphinDog No problem, I'm not a fan of any newer engine, whether that be a diesel or gas. They are way to complicated and have way to many things that can go wrong with them. The main reason why the ALH gets such good mileage and runs so efficiently is because of it's simplicity and lack of emissions systems. That's what makes it a good engine and why it out preforms all of the others.

      Use the exact same one he did though: "Easy-Off Fume Free", the blue can. That one doesn't contain any lye (NaOH) like the EO Heavy Duty or really any other oven cleaner out there. Lye will eat the aluminum and other parts too.
      Also, make sure to actually remove the components to clean them. Just spraying it in there could result in: (1) a chunk of carbon going into the cylinder, breaking the engine, (2) oven cleaner getting into the cylinders which has reports of killing these engines.

    In the pursuit of higher fuel mileage but more importantly, dependability, I’ve learned that, Rawtek makes a pipe to replace your DPF filter and catalytic converter (Off-road use only Of course) And you need to purchase a Tune-zilla tune kit that eliminates all that electronic gizmos so you’re not dealing with check engine lights. The pipe looks like high-quality and well manufactured but it’s $1100!!!. Bad enough the tune is $750. I’m seriously thinking about gutting my factory exhaust and running that with the tune-Zilla tuning. I’m not a performance junkie, and I’m not even sure it would make a tremendous MPG improvement. My main goal would be to eliminate all that extra emissions crap that keeps giving me problems (and exspensive ones) like plugged cat, plugged DPF, failing O2 Sensors… fortunately, I do live in a place that does not have annual inspections.
    Any thoughts?

      @@alb.alboz2083 I assume you got the 77kw / 105hp 1.9 tdi...limp mode restricts this very engine to 140kmh and nearly 3000rpm, you can also feel that the gas pedal stiffens. Usually switching the engine off and restarting it resets this limitation. 8l is way too much and could be EGR related but the other issue that often causes limp mode, esp when you drive quite fast or accelerate all of a sudden (or break and then go all out on the throttle) is the turbo, the variable turbine geometry might be worth checking at the same time. Over time, the moving fins clog up due to carbon build up inside and then they don t move freely enough to adjust in time, once the electronics detect that, it ll activate limp mode.
      Edit: they typical error code for what I just described is P0234 -overboost condition (can be the opposite as well, then you d have a leak somewhere) on the VCDS. Sadly this very error code is very general and the EGR can t be excluded. So given that cleaning the EGR first is much easier, I d do that first. Then you can also have the VTG actuation checked if it moves rather freely coz getting the turbo out to have the VTG checked properly is a much bigger task.
