Excellent. You made a solid deal / bet and look at it now. You did not go wrong on day one and look at you now! Bravo, keep on motoring. You "upcycle" ;e among the best of them. Keep it up. Now I am going to subscribe to the channel. Good Night and God Bless.
DUDE have you changed the CP4 Pump.....as a diesel guy you should know that they fail randomly usually at about 120k miles. THere is a CP3 kit for putting a r70 euro pump on it that solved it......Newest fix. Cost if you wait till it fails your looking at $9000 at the dealer. Or 2500 and a few days labor if you do it yourself. cp3 kits are 750.. search it on my channel and see the fix video.
I’m guessing you missed the whole dieselgate thing. According to the settlement VW made with the EPA and the DOJ, they cannot sell new diesel’s in the US ever again. Even if they could, the scandal cost them over 20 billion, they don’t want to have anything to do with diesels in the US.
@@lizardking91 I agree, used TDI's can still be bought. VW and Audi just cannot sell new ones. I own a 7P Touareg TDI, other than the Bosch CP4 high pressure fuel pump, its a great vehicle.
Can’t stand that Atlas. What an ugly monstrosity, but I’m not shy about my disdain for SUVs, as I much prefer wagons. I wish they’d bring back the Passat wagon and Golf and Alltrack Sportwagen.
Traded in 2010 Jetta TDI on the scandal, used the money to buy a 2015 TDI Sportwagen, now looking to get a 2013 TDI golf as a second car. They are by far the best commuter cars ever sold in North America.
I picked up a '15 Golf Sportswagen for a killer price and freaking love it. Has a perfect service history paid less than 10k. The best overall range I've gotten was nearly 600 miles (with a tailwind 🤣) while fully loaded with the family on a cross coutry roadtip.
Currently looking at a '15 myself, it has right at 100k miles. Kinda bland service history, though? It's a really good looking unit, they're asking $12.5k. I seen the timing belt was 130k miles/8 years I think? So I was thinking about using that as a little negotiating point, and getting it done as soon as I got the car. Is there a way to look at the belt without removing anything, and see if it needs changed? Or it's just a maybe, maybe not, need changed?
@@whatta7793 Did you get it? The belt's not hard to see under a little shroud on the left side of the engine, but that's a good bargaining chip. I got a 2013 jetta mk6 at 95k km (~59k mi.) five years ago and just got the timing belt/water pump kit (they say do em at the same time because the pump's right there if you're doing the timing belt). She's at 175k km (110k mi.) now and the original belt still looks good, but i'm not taking any chances, considering this engine should go for a long time with a little tlc.
I picked up my 2015 TDI GSW at the very end of 2019, before the madness of the world took over. I bought it with 47k miles for 9-racks... It was salvaged but that was a steal of a deal. I now have over 200k miles on the clock. I drive the crap out of it! I do a lot of gig work and my regular job causes me to drive a lot too. Does great on fuel. Anywhere from 36mpgs up to 50mpg on long set your cruise interstate trips! God willing, the car will last another 100k miles!
I highly recommend this car. I've owned mine since 2015. You definitely brought up all pros and cons of this engine. The emissions may be the most annoying thing on the car. I've recently deleted the EGR & DPF and installed a turbo back exhaust. Best decision I've made. About to hit 200,000 and it still gives me no problem.
@@dudestuff1557 I tested the upgrade on a cross country trip and on a full tank, I managed to get 530 miles all highway. City I can get anywhere from 400 to 500.
@@nopenada8071 that’s awesome! What does it work out to mpg? Also, I just bought a ‘14 today.. 👍🏻 Can you send a link where you got stuff for the delete? I want to do it ASAP.
Great video. I have 2015 VW golf TDI. I see all positive comments here but do want to make everyone aware of a painful $2500 experience and multiple visits / mechanics assessment that I went through. My gears were jumping at 1K - 2K RPM or 10-20 mph gear shift and eventually stalling out. First, MAF wiring replaced, fuel filter, DSG full service/transmission fluid. Neither worked, eventually they tugged on the crank sensor / wiring and felt it loose so they say and replaced it on “diesel warranty” after they provided a loaner car for all the troubles and (4) visits and two mechanics, with majority of the work at VW dealership. Otherwise, car is great up to 130k and 50mpg. Beware of crank! I hope I get to 200k
I have the same car that's in the video. I love it. You can spin the tire up to about 20 mph. The DSG transmission is friggin' sweet. The kids and Great Dane love the Pano sunroof.
Picked up an ‘11 TDI SW 6 speed manual about the time you posted this vid. Love it. One prob was Throttle Housing - dealer replaced under warranty. Paid under 10k- you’re Spot on! Secret is out
I have a 2015 Jetta TDI, one of the nicest cars I've ever owned. Fantastic MPG, and yet performance is pretty good as well. Had some issues with emissions. Now and then it throws a code for reasons that have never been explained, which has given me headaches come inspection time. The service station resets the code for me, I drive it for a couple days and bring it back and it passes without issues.
I bought my 2013 Jetta Sportwagen TDI 6 DSG in October 2018 with 31,000 miles on it and a 48 month warranty on the engine. It is fully equipped with sunroof, navigation, satellite radio, etc. I love it, handles great, plenty of power and 32 mpg around town. In August 2019, the high pressure fuel pump failed catastrophically sending bits of metal through the rest of the fuel system. The dealer replaced both fuel pumps, fuel filter, all fuel lines and all of the fuel injectors under the warranty (a $4,500 job). It now has 46,000 and hasn’t had a problem since.
You just got to Love The TDI I have a 2003 Jetta TDI No major work kept the maintenance up and I still get 39.2 miles to the gallon and It has 487,915 miles on it and it's still going strong and you will fall in love with the manual transmission I still enjoy it..
My jetta tdi had a fuel pump failure that left me with a huge towing bill. Once it was diagnosed at the dealership they found that the fuel pump was coming apart, and the exhaust cooler failed also. Both under warranty and getting fixed for free but don't be surprised if it happens at the worst time.
First of all great video-thank you. I own two Jetta Sportwagen’s., 2011, and 2013. About two years ago I started a new job, but my commute went to 50 miles/day. I wanted a cheap fuel efficient car, and stumbled upon the Jetta Sportwagen TDI. My daughter started driving after I bought the first one (DSG) and she liked it so much I gave it to her and bought another one 2013 manual. The manual has a 14.5 gallon fuel tank and I get about 500 miles per tank. The auto gets about 400/tank. We both love the car’s. My fuel cost’s are about $12/week and I drive 209 miles/week just to work and back. I paid $12K for the 2011, and $14K for the 2013. The only bummer is that they are not AWD. We put Blizaks on the 2011 for my daughter and she doesn’t have any problems in snow/ice. I love my Sportwagen wagon it was cheap, and has many luxury features like heated seats, which are phenomenal, heated mirrors, heated WW wash, etc.
Mine is a 2013 Diesel Beetle. I picked it up after my first diesel bug was totaled. This one had 32,904 miles on it and the cost was high because it's a convertible, my first. I love it. A 14.5 gallon tank, 42 to 48 mpg, a Tiptronic transmission, 90 miles a day 5 days a week. I follow the 10,000 mile maintenance schedule, the only thing different is I change the oil at 5000 mile intervals. I make a lot of demands of my D-Bug.
taking delivery of my 2014 Jetta Sportwagen TDi next week. and she's got a manual! Had a mk IV golf tdi some years ago. It regularly got 45 mpg hwy, but I did an economy run once (ie 55 mph on the interstate) and got around 60 mpg.
Purchased a 2014 TDI SJW 40k in white with a beige interior 6spd, Love the roomy interior for the dog and just for long travelling, I've already put 60k on it, 6 mth after owning it I got an emissions light and was prepared for a nightmare, I called them up and they said drop it off, so when I called back the next day to argue they said they replaced the whole system and to pick it up, no questions ask, The warranty for emissions is real and they are all prepared to replace it all, The only problem I've had is of course the Panoramic roof leaking, although an easy fix with sliding a string trimmer line down the drain, No noise from the roof at all but I plan on keeping the seal lubed up and snipping the ends off the drains, we have a lot of crap in the air around here, Pine pollen, pieces of pine needles and red dirt dust that just clog everything, I like the Panoramic roof enough to keep it.
Literally just got one today!! 2013 Passat TDI 50,000 miles this thing floats and man I love it. Ironically I’m in Michigan and when I was stationed I Colorado remember seeing tons and tons of them sitting in empty desert lots!
Picked up a 2012 TDI SW CPO back in May of 2019 with only 33K on the meter. About to hit 100,000 miles. I commute over 100 miles R/T daily and carry lots of tools. A great and very functional daily.
We have a 2012 VW Jetta SW TDI. Once drove from SW Alabama to Orlando, FL on one tank. Only two cons are: Timing belt replacement and dealing with VW over warranty injection issues.
Yes, I'll add my vote for the TDI. Just a bit off topic, but we have owned a 2002 Jett TDI since new and it has been a great daily driver and long distance vehicle which had never left us stranded until recently, around 160K miles when the AT started slipping. I'm into cars these days, so my plan is to swap a manual transmission into this car and drive it, hopefully to 200k or even 300k miles or more. And I agree, the VWs just seem to be comfortable cars. We own a Tiguan and a Passat, as well.
Iam in Amgeria i pray god to be able to own hapily a nice vw

@@scottyrousay1608 I heard that this is because of planting the accelerator before the clutch has engaged properly, off the lights all the time, causing this. That and the 7 speed dry clutch auto's having issues.

i bought my 2015 mk7 golf tdi 6-speed brand new, have owned it for over 5 years now, i love it! after the scandal, i didn't sell it back to vw, i received the compensation, kept it, continued to drive it everyday the peak torque kicks in at around 1700 rpm, i get 50mpg on the highway, and i drive like a maniac lol haven't had any problem with it, even after the emission fix, still very punchy and fuel efficient. i've only put 44k miles on it so far, only thing i did is changing the oil myself, nothing else, the original oem brakes and brake rotors are still kicking, can probably last till 50k. if you find a tdi at a good price, i'd say buy it!
Just traded a 2012 Jetta Sportwagen S TDI, with a DSG. Bought in April of 2018 as a CPO and 59K miles on the odometer. It had 81K miles when I traded it, They are as fabulous a performer, as you say they are, ride, handling, milage, everything. I kept good records and was getting low 30's mpg around town and mid 30's average on interstate/city. I got over 41 MPG on a 250 mile road trip, mostly interstate, at 75 to 85 MPH and saw 95 mph briefly. It only had 81K miles on it but was starting to cost me, so I traded it on a 2012 Toyota Corolla Hatchback w/a 6 speed manual. Obviously, the two cars are not in the same league. I just couldn't trust the VW any longer. Fuel system replaced (under warranty) at 63K miles, contaminated they said. Car had gone into limp mode. I always did all of the factory recommended maintenance or better. Frozen right rear caliper in October of 2020 requiring new rotors, pads and brake fluid. A right rear wheel speed sensor (numerous dash lamps) a couple of weeks prior to the frozen caliper. And the last straw was another (front left) wheel speed sensor on February 1sr of 2021. I just could not trust the car any longer. But maybe I just had bad luck. I do miss it.
Best mod I recommend is replacing the rear springs with Tiguan rear springs. I got two rear Tiguan springs from a junkyard for $50. The result is a stiffer rear end and much better curve handling, also better speed-bump and trail clearance. Additionally, much greater load capacity. My JSW sits flush level when over-extra loaded. I'm talking about rear seats down packed with zero room left, roof rack loaded over 300lbs, and rear bike rack packed with extra heavy cargo totes... And drove from Miami FLA to PHX Arizona. But I had set the Tiguan springs in previously and drove my JSW empty from PHX to Miami like it was a Golf GTI... the JSW handles much better than stock when empty and much much much better than stock when cargo-overload. Yeah! Do it! By the way, the switch raises the rear about 1.5" and gives the JSW a much better aesthetic line, it actually looks better than stock. I went from 205/55/16 to 215/55/16 and that also improved everything from handling to better engine delivery and even looks. But now I see that next set will be 225/55/16 to eliminate dry wheel spin and improve the handling, height and looks. Hey, I know dropping them is cool, but I got superb handling and can override sidewalks and offroad for security and enhanced capabilities. And fyi, nothing needes to swap the springs, no adaptors, nothing, clean swap. Yeah! Do it!
I have ‘13 Jetta TDI manual. After getting the emission fixed at the dealer I used my restitution check to get a Kerma TDI tune, Banks Cat Back exhaust, sigma 6 short shift kit, panzer skid plate, wheels and tires. Have 130K miles now, average 38 mpg city, best 58 mpg. Love the car!!
I have a 2005 Jetta TDI and I regularly get 50 to 53 mpg on the freeway. I have owned this car for 10 years now and it’s been a great car. Just make sure you’re using the correct oil in the engine, otherwise you’ll be replacing your camshaft.
My first tdi was an 03 jetta, blew up at 500k when I drove across the country. Just bought an 15 golf sportwagen, the DEF has been a pain so far, in and out of the shop constantly. But when it runs I'll average 45-50 mpg. Glad you make the video to really bring to the light the advantages of the VW TDI.
@whatta7793 I bought my car with 48k. Drive it from PA to AL... bout a thousand miles... and within 250 miles of that point I started having issues. The dealership says it's because of the heat and humidity.... since then I've put about 10k on the car (still in Al) and have had to replace the system an additional time. So this is the third system since I've owned the car. I'm moving out of Al this fall so I'll see if it truly was the Al heat and humidity by next spring

@@whatta7793what is the DEF sorry? I'm looking for a 2012-15 tdi now. Cheers.
DEF is diesel exhaust fluid. It's a system in semi-modern diesels due to government regulations that is supposed to reduce emissions. However this system provides more points of failure and maintenance needs like the original comment was mentioning, and reduces efficiency/mpg, hp and torque due to the exhaust being more restrictive. So if you remove it, you eliminate the possibility of it failing and needing repaired, you no longer have to put DEF (blue fluid) in the vehicle, your exhaust is more free flowing leading to better mpg, power, and reliability overall. US Govt military vehicles are all deleted of this junk due to these things, but civilians, by law, aren't supposed to have deleted diesel vehicles on public road.
Wow dude I bought an IDENTICAL Sportwagen in 2018. Black, pano roof, same wheels, same interior…..only a manual transmission. I love it and have put 50k+ miles on it since then!
I had a 2006 VW Jetta. It was a little beat but got great mileage. The turbo went out and I had it replaced. Never got back to that level. The Jetta was totaled. I then got a 2013 Audi A3. Much prettier car but since it is a dieselgate car the mileage sucks... Great video!!!
Great video. We traded in our 2013 6-Speed Golf TDI after Dieselgate. Was on the fence about it but VW offered close to what I paid for it. We now own a 2002 Golf TDI with the ALH motor which we love. Does not have near the bells and whistles but it is a fun car to drive and averages 48 mpg with over 50 mg on road trips. Still miss the 2013
I will never own another vw period. trading in my 14 jetta tdi this friday nothing but problems like headlight and tail light bulbs that constantly burn out .I ended up having a shop change them and they removed the headlights them selfs saying it’s easier to change the bulbs vs trying to get your hands in they very tight spot . i see lots of other jetta’s with burnt out lights also . My drivers seat has ripped right down the stitching seam , starter went out and again is a bear to change out . both my driver and passenger window switches on driver side you have to pull up hard on the buttons to get windows up . i had to ratchet strap my passenger door last winter because the cable inside snapped just so i could get home from work.now the engine light is in . One thing i will say is it’s a good looking car inside and out compared to the 2021 corolla i just bought .these things cost a lot to maintain especially the emissions stuff if and when it goes out . i’m sorry but new diesels just aren’t worth it now and i didn’t find mine got much better fuel milleage vs a civic or corolla vs extra cost or potential cost .things like having to replace a turbo, injectors ,dpf or the HPFP that can cost up too $8k if it goes out and throws metal throughout your lines
Brown manual Jetta Sportwagen. That’s what I have. I think I would’ve got it right around when this video came out. I love the car, but I’ve definitely used the CPO a lot. I think it is pretty solid and will be for a long time. Super fun to drive. With the seats folded down, there’s 3’x6’ of flat area. I was able to fit a 10’ pvc pipe into the car without having to move the seats the other day. I wish affordable wagons weren’t a dying breed in the states.
I recently bought a 2014 Audi Q7 with the 3.0 TDI. I love it. It's a big, heavy vehicle and I'm still getting 25 mpg. Very comfortable and roomy. I'm 6'5" and have plenty of room behind the wheel.
I'm on my 2nd Passat TDI (2014); love them. Other cars: 2013 F-350 7.3, 2007 Grand Cherokee with the 3.0L DR, and 1986 Isuzu Trooper TD. Name a diesel sold in the US and I've probably owned it. '93 Dodge W-250 w/ 5.9 Cummins, 1983 Olds Cutlass Ciera w/ 4.3 (great engine, unfortunately on the heels of the converted 350), Isuzu P'UP (same 2.2L engine as the Trooper sans turbo), 3 M-Bs (both 5 and 6 cyl), Peugeot 504D, Mack COE (engine by Renault) and 2 Kubotas (L245 and L45). I also just purchased my VW from Carvana. Had it just over a week now. Love it! Went with a 2015 TDi S Golf Sportwagen with the 6 speed manual. Only 60k miles on it when I bought it. @@acerjuglans Been driving my TDI Sportswagon for 5 weeks. It's a blast. The initial step on gas is slow, but it revs hard at high rpg. The drive is sporty and the diesel engine is awesome. No regrets.
Fellow TDI owner/enthusiast here. Nice video! Your production quality is awesome. Couple things - Timing belt is due to be replaced every 130k, not every 100k. Though, it's better to be safe than sorry with timing, of course. The high pressure fuel pump failures isn't related to the emissions. Yes, it will run harder when you're "regenning", but at the end of the day, the issues are due to poor maintenance (not replacing fuel filter every 20k-40k miles) and poor quality fuel. Filling up at a station that services "big rigs" is an easy way to know you're getting fresh, high quality stinky fuel! You can swap the CP4 to a CP3 if you want to avoid the CP4 issue altogether. And to answer your question- My tuned and "stinky" 2dr 6spd Mk6 Golf TDI just went on a 1300 mile round trip drive and I was on track to get 700 miles out of a full tank before the fuel light would even came on. Absolutely love these cars.

2013 TDI Golf hatchback. Red, 6 speed, 45 MPG & I love it. VWs are rolling computers & cost a buttload to fix, but at 150,000 I've had no problems yet. Gotta replace that timing belt! I started out with a 2003 Jetta sedan tdi manual trans, but it met a black cow one night. It was my wife’s first new car and she was heart broken. So we went looking for a unicorn and found it. It was a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen Tdi with 6 speed manual, a pale gold color. The wife loves it still misses the fuel economy of the 2003. I love the TDI cars, what a shame that dieselgate happened. I was trying to get a unmolested 2013 without the fix, but VW was real good about fixing there errors. Still love the car anyway. Beware the clutch, mine failed ata found 60,000 miles. Not sure who was driving it before.
Having owned a "bought back" TDI which I loved, later purchased a reconfigured to meet immissions standards TDI. Definitely love the newly acquired TDI but note that the fuel economy is about 30% off from my previous TDI.
@@bmw803 :You got it Joe! Out here in 'flyover country' we don't have emissions and I've been enjoying increased mileage, cleaner turbo, and cleaner oil for years now. Truly wonderful!

I am currently in Florida about to haul a uhaul to TN with mine. It took some digging bc the owner's guides shipped out with a lot of *'s that signified not available at time of printing. From what I have found it has a towing capacity of 1300kg. I pulled a 4x8 cargo trailer from South FL to Central FL. About half full. I will guess Lil Saucy was hauling appx 800lbs of trailer and cargo for a total of about 1600lbs. It was faster off the line than a Duramax hauling a 5th wheel. He videoed me running off and leaving him. I chickened out at 55... Damn stickers all over the trailer. Pulling the 8' trailer we got 22.8mpg average. In Central FL I switched to a 150 llb heavier 6x12 trailer that's rated 100lbs less than the 1300kg or 2600 the car can do. I'm not loading to capacity. The larger trailer comes with trailer brakes. That is my main reason. With the 12' trailer the car is taxed. You can feel it on the hitch and in the wallet. It's getting 20.2mpg so far pulling the 12' tandem axel trailer. I haven't left for Tennessee yet and haven't felt the trailer property balanced. It's a little hitch heavy on the last two errands I ran so I am expecting the ride to improve after the last couple hundred pounds go into the rear of the trailer and tied down. As it stands, hitch heavy pulling close to 2000lbs, she's losing traction on the paint lines at stop lights when I try to impress ppl pointing at it.
update: we played The Little VW that Could up two hills in Birmingham, but other than that, she pulled comfortably away from most other vehicles on the road with a 4x8 trailer behind her, but the tandem axle 6x12 trailer was another story. I think she'd have pulled the 4x8 up the hills in Birmingham AL effortlessly, but the 6x12 turned got me down to 40mph and 3100 rpm with no power remaining before we crested. Had the climbs been a couple hundred feet higher, I don't know if she'd have downshifted and kept pulling slower, or stopped, I didn't find out, but I WAS worried. On the flat, and with mild hills, I'd say she pulled that 6x12 as well as my 90 Jeep Cherokee, which wouldn't have balked at the two hills. It's the 4.0 straight six. However, i'd have gotten about 14mpg with the Jeep. My 2011 Golf pulled a 6x12 trailer from Central FL to Central TN, and got 20.8mpg avg and completed it in 11hrs, with 7 stops and 3 passengers, one wheelchair disabled! The Golf TDI kicks ass.
I grabbed a 2013 TDI Beetle with 20k miles on it back in 2019 for $12k with the 2 year/10 year warranty and have put 100k trouble free miles on it. I easily put 100 miles a day on it. I killed a spike buck with it doing around 45 MPH and drove it home. New hood, emblem, plastic front and a lens assembly. It's a tank for a small car. The warranty repair kicked in and the DPF, EGR, and snow flap/valve(?) were replaced with only 5k left on the warranty. Did the timing belt, water pump, and rollers at the same time. Now I'm going to do a delete and tune with the Rawtek kit and can't wait. Far and away its the best commuter car I've ever owned and I'm 52 years old now. The only way they will get my TDI from me is to pry it from my cold, dead hands!
Yup picked up a 15 VW tdi Passat manual SE (102,000miles) back in August of this year . If I'm light on it it gets 48+mpg avg. If I'm heavy on it it gets 40mpg avg. Only problem I had was the water pump locked up at 120k. So I took it apart and replaced everything timing belt, rollers, belts. She's back on road so for with a lil over 1000miles. Best car ever.
I just picked up a mk4 Jetta tdi 5 speed in cosmo green, 258k miles. I’m getting 44mpg city no highway miles. Can’t wait to take it on a trip and see how it does
I also have a 2013 JSW, It's FANTASTIC !!! German quality is not easily matched, and just as you mentioned I bought it at a very low price. I purchased my JSW with only 23K for 11,500.00. The vehicle was such a good deal I purchased 2 more, one for each of my sons. Thank you Volkswagen !!!
i drive 64 miles round trip to work every day and my 2011 jetta tdi gets close to 50mpg, so i use less than 1.5 gallons of fuel despite my long drive, plus it has a turbo and it actually has some power so its the best of all worlds. 100% recommend, it was in the shop for maintenance so i borrowed a ford focus for a week and my fuel bill was almost double plus it has very little power. i love the tdi
Great Video. Another thing to watch for is plugged pano roof drains. Can cause serious water damage if not taken care of properly. I've grappled with this and its not easy to fix, and VW dealers are reluctant to take it on too.
late comment but if you are concerned about the high pressure fuel pump there is a solution. The failures with the HPFP happen on a small percentage of VW TDI vehicles, the reason this happens is because the diesel fuel on the United States is of very quality due to it being primarily used on heavy duty vehicles. To remedy this problem with your TDI go to FCP Euro and purchase a case of Liqui Moly Super Diesel Additive and add it at fill ups this will ensure your HPFP gets the lubrication it needs and prevent failure.
Just bought a 15 passat 2.0tdi and got 55mpg highway at 68mph.. At 75mph dropped to 42mpg. Fun AF to drive. Over 100k miles and it reminds me of my 09 535i bmw. You save so much money with gas mileage it pays for itself. Most ppl put 300-400 dollars in gas into their car every month. Our payment is less than 300 and we do about 90 a month on diesel. We have the tdi sel.
Four of us old retired guys on my circle up here in the Central Coast of Oregon bought CPO TDI VDUBs within two weeks of each other last May from VW of Salem. 1 - 2012 Jetta sedan, my 2014 Jetta MK6 Sportswagon and 2 - 2015 Passats with DEF. My Sportwagon had only 22,500 miles at purchase. I have lifted it and have tuned Bilstein shocks & struts, with bigger Toyo all terrain tires and aluminum skid plate, with help online from VW Highlife. She rides so much better, sets up higher and firmer. I run the AT in sports mode most of the time local and get about 32 mpg. I like the torky higher RPM of sports mode. On long highway trips in Drive with some up & down grade manual shifting I get 38 to 40 mpg. This is a great vehicle!
Such a GREAT CHANNEL!!! You say you are making videos for diesel enthusiasts- BUT you are making me a diesel enthusiast by watching your channel. Great job and excellent photography!!!
I’ve owned 3 TDI wagons they are the best all around car I have ever owned, period!! #1 was a manual which I loved but wife wanted auto so traded it for #2 which I sold back to VW despite loving the car. I then drove a corolla and a plug-in Prius for the next two years for my commuter...I drive 100 miles per day. The Prius was literally the worst car I have ever driven in my life! As soon as VW fixed the TDI and they flooded the used car market for 1/2 price I purchased a 2013 and I have my favorite commuter car back with the versatility of an suv and the mpg of a Prius and sporty enough driving to have some fun. Buy one! BTW these TDI’s are covered to 120k miles from VW as part of the dieselgate apology.
Best quote from your video. "I wonder how many, uh, manual diesel wagons there are?" I'm not a fan of brown, so, I didn't add that quote. I would love to get my hands on a B3 tornado red Passat diesel manual wagon.
Love it. Since I retired, I've been rebuilding Diesel cars, mainly Jettas. I've got two mk4s waiting, and two mk5s ready. My daily driver is a 13 sport wagen with 215k miles, with a Diesel Cruze backup when I change out the VWs timing belt.
As a Skoda Octavia mk3 2.0 tdi owner (for US ppl - basically, the VW Golf/Jetta) - get a AWD TDI if you want to spice up your car down the road - fwd just would not handle such a truckload of torque. From stock 150hp/320nm 2.0 engine you can easily get ~220hp/480nm with just a downpipe, deleted EGR and a tune. But still the thing eata around 7L/100km if you're moderate with the throttle
Purchased a 2015 VW Jetta TDI 6 speed manual last year. Shiny White with blacked out windows. I drive it like a race car and still get 45 mpg and 55 on the highway. Purchased it for $9,800 with 61,000 miles and comes with a 5 year or 100,000 additional miles warranty
I just got a 2013 TDI JSW, I love it. Although mine does not have the moon roof. But it is a great car, My first TDI. I really want to make this car last a long time for sure, I enjoyed the video btw.
I bought the first available 2015 Sportwagen TDI at my dealer. It's been great, love the DSG trans. Super reliable. On the highway I can get over 50 mpg average, City driving it's about 38 mpg, I've a heavy foot.
I agree with all you said. I have a 2015 Golf Sportwagen TDI. I bought it new. I have a 30-mile commute to work on the open highway and get 48-52 MPG. I have had no problems with it. I also have a 2013 Passat TDI which I bought new. It has 130,000 miles and still acts like new. We just got back from an 1800-mile trip and the ride was pleasant. My cousin said it best, A gas engine is like a stallion that will bolt out surge at times, but a diesel is like a mule that is sure and steady on foot. I have never lacked power or acceleration. My '86 Gold diesel was not a turbo and could not get out of its own way, but at 50 mpg, who cared? The modern turbo fixed that problem. Diesel is expensive, but still cheaper to drive than a gas engine. I will cry when I have to give up my diesel cars and wish they were available.
My three door TDI GETS 41.5 mpg in mixed driving, I take real world data at each fill up. Currently my fuel cost per mile is 5 cents. When fuel is $2.50 per gallon it might go up to 6 cents per mile. It has Sirius radio, a great climate control system, leather seats, power windows and sunroof. Even the door locks are touch control. In addition, it handles beautifully with Yokohama’s. I hope to be able to get another if this one ever wears out. It’s definitely one of the best cars I’ve ever owned in 60 years of driving.
I have had 2007 City Jetta as my first Volkswagen amazing handling capability and fuel efficiency Volkswagen are very basic is what I appreciate eyes on the road is where you need them to be not trying to locate buttons…I upgraded to 2013 TDI Jetta love love this car more power under the hood than the vehicle itself visually looks basic efficient on diesel engine last longer than gas basic interior sunroof crazy fender sound system seats are comfortable front and back lots of legs room love my Jetta
I recently just bought a 6sp 2014 Jetta TDI. Got it for $5k CAD from a dealer. Picked it up before they were able to certify it. Needed a coil spring, and some maintenance things for it to pass safety, which I did all of it myself, so saved a ton on labour. Conveniently it's at 200k kms, so I do need to replace the timing belt, which is not cheap... Or I could risk grenading my motor and do it myself without proper timing tools😅
I have owned 11 TDI cars since 1999 best vehicles I have ever owned! I still own my 2015 VW Jetta SEL TDI manual Laded with options which I bought new! VW paid Me 8500 to keep it! I presently own 4 Diesels 2017 Chevy Colorado Duramax, 2015 VW Jetta SEL TDI, 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland Eco Diesel and A 2014 BMW 328d Xdrive great vehicles!
I bought a 13 tdi jetta 6 months ago and I've already put 11000 miles on it, I absolutely love it, I've told everyone I talk to about my car that I will never buy anything gas car again.
I absolutely love my white 2015 VW Golf Sportwagen SEL TDI with 6-speed standard transmission! Bought it CPO last May and other than a wiring harness issue where the injector 3 power lines occasionally arc to the block (which is scheduled to be replaced in the coming weeks), it's been a great and enjoyable car! I have a VAG-COM cable and have enabled a few awesome features using VCDS on my laptop!
I have a ‘14 Jetta TDI. VW offered me $7000 more than I paid for it to buy it back. I kept it because I love the thing. Drives like a little Porsche and gets 47 MPG. They do have their quirks though. Mostly little design flaws that can get pricey. But the power train is rock solid. If you can keep up with the maintenance and the quirks there is no reason you can’t go 300k in one of these.
i had a 2016 VW Jetta TDI sport wagon that was under the buy back program. it was the best wagon i ever had. drove it across US and for Uber ride share. it got 45-50 mpg on long distance. I got the money and bought a Toyota Tacoma 4 door but it wasn't suited for my garage and I traded for a 2015 Golf TDI with only 51K miles, cost $16K. only crap i didn't like is adding the DEF additive every 10000 miles. i'm used to it now which gets 45 to 55 mpg on long distance drive. so far i have it since 2019 and really like this TDI SEL fully loaded four door hatchback. So far i put in 15K and enjoying the drive. Diesel should be mandatory fuel for all vehicle minus the DEF crap just to steal consumer hard earned money to justify the bureccrat senseless mandate and the tree huggers dream .
I have tdi Sportwagen almost 40k kms since 2018. 6 years. I don't worry what you are saying or be a problem because I drive it as if it's a ceramic. So far so good.
100% these are great cars. Had an 05 Jetta TDI sportwagen for years, and picked up a 2013 Audi A3 TDI wagon in January of 2020. Awesome car. Basic, but very nice looking, and comfortable. Much smaller than the Jetta Sportwagen for what it’s worth. I didn’t see crazy fuel economy with it (40mpg prob best case with conservative freeway driving only) but none the less a fabulous rig, and Audi service handled a warranty replacement of the intake manifold when it threw a code (was considered part of the extended warranty from the emissions rework). Highly recommend.
I don't really understand the calculus on not making hybrid TDIs. When the whole thing went down there was no way I was getting rid of mine. 50 mpg? 230 NM torque? Would people pay an extra 1 or 2K to get what.....70 mpg? Hell yes. Hybrid diesels would be the second most energy efficient powertrain after full electric, except without with the limitations on range and charging infrastructure.

Volkswagen needs to bring back the TDI's to the states. I would love to see an Atlas TDI!
They ate still here, you just have to find them. I just got one!!
I’m guessing you missed the whole dieselgate thing. According to the settlement VW made with the EPA and the DOJ, they cannot sell new diesel’s in the US ever again. Even if they could, the scandal cost them over 20 billion, they don’t want to have anything to do with diesels in the US.
@@bradj7205 no new but alot alot of used
@@lizardking91 I agree, used TDI's can still be bought.
Alright that camera quality in the intro is movie level

I’d rock a TDI Jetta Wagon
I have the same car that's in the video. I love it. You can spin the tire up to about 20 mph. The DSG transmission is friggin' sweet. The kids and Great Dane love the Pano sunroof.
@donaldmartin4489 how are you spinning up to 20? Cant spin from more than a dig
Picked up an ‘11 TDI SW 6 speed manual about the time you posted this vid. Love it. One prob was Throttle Housing - dealer replaced under warranty. Paid under 10k- you’re Spot on! Secret is out

How many miles does it have on it? I’ve been struggling to find one under 8000 local
I heard about the cp4. I hear that good fuel additives are supposed to help.
*cries in Joe Biden*
Any problems with the emissions equipment craping out and costing a fortune to repair & replace?
Mine is a 2013 Diesel Beetle. I picked it up after my first diesel bug was totaled. This one had 32,904 miles on it and the cost was high because it's a convertible, my first. I love it. A 14.5 gallon tank, 42 to 48 mpg, a Tiptronic transmission, 90 miles a day 5 days a week. I follow the 10,000 mile maintenance schedule, the only thing different is I change the oil at 5000 mile intervals. I make a lot of demands of my D-Bug.

Just bought a 2015 Passat tdi sel. My gf has a 2011 tdi sport wagon. We love them.

taking delivery of my 2014 Jetta Sportwagen TDi next week. and she's got a manual!

It’s hard not to put miles on them they’re so fun to drive!
500 k miles? that's a lot!
How many miles on yours when it started having DEF issues? And what kind of symptoms does DEF issues cause?

Still miss the 2013
Mk4s are still my fav golfs.
Just picked up a 14 TDI Touareg and I love it!
I would like to see more videos of your 1st gen. Your production value is very high. This is one reason why I subbed and glad I did
I'm on my 2nd Passat TDI (2014); love them. Love your site.
I just bought the exact same vehicle. I'm excited. Carvana delivers it next week. $19k all together.
Hope you enjoy it!
I also just purchased my VW from Carvana. Had it just over a week now. Love it! Went with a 2015 TDi S Golf Sportwagen with the 6 speed manual. Only 60k miles on it when I bought it. The MPG is insane! Averaging at least 55 MPG right now (long commute to work). It truly handles just like a Golf, despite being a longroof. Such a joy to drive! Best of luck with yours. Take good care of it and it will be good to you for many years!
@@acerjuglans Been driving my TDI Sportswagon for 5 weeks. It's a blast. The initial step on gas is slow, but it revs hard at high rpg. The drive is sporty and the diesel engine is awesome. No regrets.
I love my 2012 Volkswagen Touareg TDI. 3.0L TDI 5000 4x4 SUV that tows 8000lbs and ALSO gets 34mpg on the highway. LOVE IT.
Im averaging 525 miles per tank in my 2014 Passat, easily my best vehicle purchase.
Fellow TDI owner/enthusiast here.
Nice video! Your production quality is awesome.
Couple things -
Timing belt is due to be replaced every 130k, not every 100k.
And to answer your question-
My tuned and "stinky" 2dr 6spd Mk6 Golf TDI just went on a 1300 mile round trip drive and I was on track to get 700 miles out of a full tank before the fuel light would even came on. Absolutely love these cars.
is it on all TDI cars that it should be replaced at 130K because i am going to buy a golf and calculating the maintance cost
@@MariusNinjai All 2.0 TDI's are 130k miles. If you're looking for cheap to own though, FCP euro makes these cars SUPER cheap. Lifetime warranty on everything, brakes, oil filters, oil, fuel filters, all of it! Just pay return shipping, oil changes are like $15 for me. Plus, they're all OE/OEM parts, not cheap eBay/Amazon garbage.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
can we use some injector cleaners or diesel fuel additives/cetane booster?
@@1.9tdilove71 Diesel Kleen is the only additive I'd run personally.
@@1.9tdilove71 I use DieselKleen power service and their winter anti-gel "supplement" when it's under 32f.
2013 TDI Golf hatchback. Red, 6 speed, 45 MPG & I love it. VWs are rolling computers & cost a buttload to fix, but at 150,000 I've had no problems yet. Gotta replace that timing belt! I got mine for just over $8,000 with 65k miles! Used car dealer said nobody wanted to buy a red diesel with manual tranny that was part of dieselgate. Just got check engine light. Dealer said something about oil scavenging & it's under warranty because of dieselgate! Also suggested that timing belt!
Just bought 2013 TDI passat SEL with 58K miles (after watching this review) thank you, Surprisingly these low mile ones weren't available (fair price) in Michigan, so had to drive to Chicago to buy one. Traded in my 2014 RAV4 , cant be happier
I've owned my manual TDI wagon since 2015, LOVE IT... 219k miles now, just did the second timing belt service. Probably will hold on for another 100k
Definitely love the newly acquired TDI but note that the fuel economy is about 30% off from my previous TDI.
egr/dpf delete and enjoy 52mpg
@@mikesmith1181 Especially in states that have no emissions testing.
@@bmw803 :You got it Joe! Out here in 'flyover country' we don't have emissions and I've been enjoying increased mileage, cleaner turbo, and cleaner oil for years now. Truly wonderful!
For the Fuel Injection Pump, you can add 2 ounces of ATF to the fuel tank every fill up.
So what is your opinion on the desirability of TDI's now that diesel fuel is considerably more expensive than gasoline? Don't get me wrong, I really like my TDI's but I questioning the economics vs a gas VW.
I bought a manual 2011 golf TDI In July and love it
I am signing for a 2014 jetta TDI In the morning. Thanks for the review!!
Dpf delete with stage 2 tune just got mine done I have the same car same year. Highly highly recommend
You bought a gold nugget! We have one and LOVE IT!!! We told our VW dealer to pass up the chain that we want these brought back! I wouldn’t take a garage full of Lamborghinis for ours!
Can’t wait to take it on a trip and see how it does
Just bought a 2014 Jetta sports wagon tdi in white and it’s so nice! I love it so far only had 54k on it!
2014 Jetta TDI with DSG
Love it! Sport Mode or Tiptronic depending on your choice of engagement, but either way its a hoot around town.
I literally just bought a 2013 golf TDI and im in love already!
i drive 64 miles round trip to work every day and my 2011 jetta tdi gets close to 50mpg, so i use less than 1.5 gallons of fuel despite my long drive, plus it has a turbo and it actually has some power so its the best of all worlds.
Yeah I’m just not going to use my sunroof lol too much risk
is there any tips on this? I just got my 2012 sportwagen TDI with the pano
late comment but if you are concerned about the high pressure fuel pump there is a solution.
Thank you so much! I appreciate the kind words!

Looking to get work done on mine out in San Diego. Know anyone out this way?
I recently bought a ‘16 Golf SW TDI DSG that was brought from the US by VW to my country in 2017. Best car i’ve had!
Awesome videography man. You're going to have a few hundred thousand subs in the near future!
Just bought a 2012 Passat TDI SEL with 31,000 miles, This is a nice car !!

2001 passat 1,9 tdi. loving the sound of it when idle
don't forget to drill the inter cooler .after the decarb the ALH is bad for that EGR screw up
I have a ‘14 Jetta TDI.
