Wow. Today Orson scored his third head-to-head match in a row! My rule was 3 matches moves a celeb to the big leader board, because I anticipated that would allow a little time for some stats to accumulate. But Orson got there in only 3 attempts, something no other celeb has done. So, even though his stats may not be deep enough yet to be significant, here he is, and now there are 7 on the list! Here's the updated accuracy stats on the 7 celebs to have scored 3 or more matches so far: Orson - 100% (3 wins in 3 attempts). Betty - 46.7% (7 wins in 15 attempts). Charles - 42.9% (6 wins in 14 attempts). Jo Ann - 36.4% (4 out of 11 attempts). Bert - 30.8% (4 wins in 13 attempts). Richard - 29.6% (16 wins in 54 attempts). Brett - 28.6% (4 wins in 14 attempts). *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 164, excluding the lost/missing episodes 31, 32, 33.
From what I read Bea Arthur couldn't stand Betty White. The fake goody two shoes attitude really wore thin. Another Golden Girls trivia fact. As the characters were in the selection process, Bea Arthur and Rue McClenahan were set for there iconic roles. Betty White was contacted by the producers and originally wanted to read for Blanche's part. Betty White apparently thought she was a sex symbol. Thank God that didn't work out!
@@ts.elliot5870The story goes, they wanted Rue to be Rose and Betty to be Blanche and it was the two actresses who came up with switching roles as they’d already played those types on their previous shows (Rue being Vivian on Maude, and Betty being Sue Ann on the MTM show). It was not that Betty thought herself anything.
This is the best channel on UA-cam. I'm way too young to remember the original airing of this show (I'm 33), but I grew up with GSN and back in the day, they played Match Game constantly. I've been hooked ever since. I remember in 2003, they did a nonstop 24-hour month of Match Game. I swear I spent at least 200 hours that month watching Match Game
Spaethon..I was born in the late 60s,and I never watched these shows in full, but I saw them in pieces when I would go to other people's homes. These shows generally aired after The Price Is Right(3pm airing). In 1977,CBS made the huge error of moving this to the morning, and I believe that's what started the decline of viewership along with the invention of the star wheel and Richard Dawson's leaving in 1978 to concentrate on Family Feud(ABC).In 1979,when Match Game went to full syndication on a daily basis,FF got more of MG's viewership.
I've been watching these episodes for a long time now, and I enjoy them very much. What surprises me is that I haven't seen any comments from any of the past contestants. Many of the younger ones should still be alive, and I would think they would like to watch the show again and have some interesting stories to tell in the comment section.
I've read a few responses from some of the previous contestants. You probably should watch the later years to see them. Even some of their relatives have chimed in.

Not sure that earring would have matched ring, as "ring" by itself nearly always refers to the kind you wear on your finger, and the kind you wear in your ear is almost always referred to as "earring". Pretty sure the judge would have given the buzzer on that.
This game is so rigged! They gave plenty of time to put babbling Brook on the number one! And we know that Foster Brooks and Mel Brooks would’ve been on top

I was so sorry to see Donald go. He was one of the most pleasant contestants I've ever seen on Match Game.
Me too.
Me too! He was such a sweet man and I loved how when he won he shook hands with the guys and kissed all the ladies.

16:18 Maude question. Little did Betty White know then she’d go on to work with Bea Arthur on one of the biggest shows ever ’The Golden Girls’

There was an episode - posted sometime a lot earlier on - where one lady posted that she was one of the contestants on that episode.
I saw a few eps of hollywood sqaures edited into one called grandma on hollywood sqaures...I think maybe they taped themselves already and kept it.
I 've seen comments from 2 male contestants. I wish some of the chicks would check in, like Linda or Marlena

Boy, can you hear the Wisconsin in that contestant's voice!
Great show I enjoy watching the show.
Mork calling Orson. Come in, Orson!
Wow, this episode is ultra-early. Gene with that surprisingly long hair, looks like he'd just came from Woodstock!
He had really long hair when he was starting out in radio.
Man, Orson is on fire the last few shows. He went from rarely giving a matching answer to giving multiple correct answers.
So true. His prior week some time back was a disaster.
he was coached properly before coming back I guess, he surpassed Brett on been annoying.
And he made RD a laughing stock after winning all the last 3 super matches he was in, giving away 1100 dollars in the process!

I'm still trying to decide if chris really wants to win this game or not.
I wanted Donald to win. The celebrities didnt cooperate on his final question.
Brett Somers is Sooo Annoying
OMG 💯 💯 💯
"After 3 rings you hang up?" @5:57. Richard is so damn quick!!!
Though I have a feeling what he said @18:20 was even funnier. Anyone hear it??
Maude is tough, so I'd say she gave Walter a black eye
Bring Donald out to kiss the ladies goodbye.

I prefer women with less makeup, myself. I'm guessing that's a natural tan she's wearing since spray tans and tanning beds didn't exist until the 80s.
My sister-in-law tanned at a salon in the seventies all year around in Chicago suburbs.

At 2:28, Delilah did not cut Samson's hair, one of the servants did. It is interesting how often the biblical references are incorrect.
It is all for fun, they twisted stories a bit.
Blank Brooks ...... Has to be Garth Brooks doesn't it?
No. In 1974 Garth was 12.

Probably too early for Garth Brooks. He was probably in Jr high school. Mel Brooks was my first thought.
