We milk a mix of 33 Jersey, Holstein, Brown Swiss, Guernsey, and Ayrshire cattle. We also enjoy sharing our family's love of Draft Horses and using them for logging and other farm work. Dairy Farming in Minnesota can be challenging, but it's a lifestyle we really enjoy. My then 21 year old daughter was driving hayrides for a charity event, and someone complained that she couldn't have enough experience to do it. When I said she had 16 years experience, he asked what fool would let a 5 year old drive a tractor. I introduced myself as her Dad. 😮😂

Nothing better for a man than to see his kids (and grandkids) growing up and doing well - I know the feeling you were talking about. Glad to see the MN weather has been mild for you but sometimes I wish it was just winter cold so you get used to one type. Keep up the good work!

No need to apologize. Justin looks just like you on that tractor. I know your Granpa is watching his grandkids help on the farm. Maybe why this winter has been so mild. He is so pround makes the sun shine brighter

Once again good video and glad everyone is over the flue. One of my favorite things about your videos is seeing your kids out there working with you and Jen. Teaching them young is always a great idea so they will be able to help and run the farm. Great video Alan and God bless you and Family

Great video, it is rare, nowadays, to find a dairy where all the cows have real names and not just a number. And even more rare when the kids know all the names. Brings back a lot of memories.

Alan, I can’t help feeling the same as you as I watch along. Seeing your kids growing up and working alongside you is an emotional moment. Thank you for allowing us to share the pride you have in your kids. I have memories of an old New Idea spreader behind an 8N with my dad in the late 60’s too. I had fun driving the tractor without realizing I was doing a full adult job. Your kids will have similar memories. Keep on farming and I’ll keep on watching.

Your boy looks like an excellent tractor driver 👍. I'm hoping to start my oldest daughter driving this summer. I've got a tine bucket I use for bed pack, it works really nice, especially in those wood side sheds you can't push too hard on.

Agee with others on the emotions, they are good to have in moments like that. They past way to fast, so thankful for those moments with my dad. And moments with my son and now grandsons. Life is a gift to not take for granted, money can not by those moments.

Looks like the field is holding up the tractor and spreader pretty good on this day. The mushy stuff is just fine Alan. On the family farm. Maturity is part of that too. Aside from the mud, spring is one of my favorite times of the year. New life, new growth for everything.

Manure hauling/pen cleaning is a never-ending job on dairy farms. Even with our small beef herd and dairy feeders, no shortage of manure. In Ohio the upcoming excitement is the 8 April 2024 solar eclipse. Sorry to hear of your flu bug encounter, nasty stuff to deal with.

Alan, a manure tine bucket in your situation would be really handy. I'm in Western Pennsylvania we have a company in eastern Ohio called mast farm service that produces them that is where mine came from. Probably find them on google. I have it on a 3640 gehl. One of the things I found handy with it is it when I'm loading I will pick it up and drop it two or three times shake the load up and then put it on the spreader and it seems to spread out better doesn't leave as many clumps

Hey Allen and Jen got a question for you . That young man definitely has been bitten by the farming bug. Have you ever thought of working with him on an economics project? Like buying a few beef steers and raising them , processing and selling. Then you could go over all the cost and have him keep a log and then you can see how he does maybe instead dairy he might want to do beef . Maybe the next year do a small plot of grain farming. It would be a great learning experience while he still has you both to lean on.

Even if you run over the field with a spike toothed harrow and level it nice, you'll still collect a lot of the bedding back when you run the hay rake next summer. The bedding won't be deteriorated enough. Especially if it's a dry spring. Been there done that. I'd put corn on that field.

Hopefully not the rest of the year ,,but i would bet on it continuing ,,look for the signs of a drought comin cause i believe i see sighns of it again myself, as I lived up there for many years,,its very strange with your very mild winter weather right now . Its just not right or the way it supposed to be as normal. ,,as my dad who farmed for 50 some years., He predicted it at different times as such,in what im seeing for you up there right now. .,and he made lots of money playing the commodity futures, markets ,, watch the weather
