The B is Back!/Farmall B Running Again/Finishing the Ag Bag

- What started off last winter as just replacing the belt on the Farmall B alternator ended up being a much bigger project with a radiator repair, Governor work, and a lot of gaskets and seals needing to be replaced. Alan finally got it done and got the tractor back together. We also closed up the oats and peas/haylage bag.
Farmall B
We didn't have a tractor until about 1958( 4 horses did the farming) but three of our neighbors had a Farmall B
One year at threshing time a neighbor loaned my dad his Farmall B to haul grain bundles because he had rented ground a few miles away.
75,241 Farmall B's were manufactured from 1939-1947.
To see one still out working in the fields on a farm is really amazing.
At least 74 years old and not sitting in a shed shined up and used only in parades.
A real treat for my eyes and a tribute to Alan for keeping it running and working it on the farm.
I have to ask you a question Alan: What "can't" you fix? When you put your mind to something, you don't give up. I liked your response to a comment your referred that someone made on one of your videos about junk. It may be junk to some folks, but if it keeps you going when you break down on the weekend when the parts stores are closed, it is definitely "Treasure". I think you had as much fun zipping along on the "B" as your kids have zipping along on their lawn mower. Even the Mrs. had a smile on her face!! Thank you so much for the farm home videos. A breath of fresh air! God bless you and your family! Michael Grant!
Funny that people who complain about your "junk" can't see it from their place, so I say they need to MYOB. Your place, your stuff. Keep up the good work, we love your videos!
I commented already but I need to add this: As far as I can tell you always acknowledge all comments from everyone. That is really classy on your part. Upper Midwest people just seem so genuine. That's refreshing. God Bless.
Thank you!
Always good to get an old tractor running again. You'll find lots of jobs for it. When you said a parts tractor, the parts tractor I dragged home I got looking at it and brought it back to a working tractor -- only needed a few mostly inexpensive parts. Your parts tractor looks in much sadder shape. It'll help keep others going. .. When you degrease/powerwash, mix up a third boiled linseed oil with two thirds mineral spirits and using a cloth you can 'paint' a clear coat on the tractor to make it shine. I learned that from the Vice Grip Garage channel (he put his 'shine juice' on old cars, but it works great on old tractors too).
It's your place and it's nice to have equipment laying around for parts when needed! 👍 My cousins just sold their cows around Christmas and one of the truck drivers loading the cows said the farm looked really run down and my cousin Tim replied yes but we don't owe anyone any money!! Great video! 😎
I once bought a tractor from an older farmer who was on the board of directors at Production Credit.
He stated he soon learned " don't judge a book by its cover" as some fancy looking modern farms were so deep in debt they were ineligible for another loan and some run down looking older farms were in great financial shape and loan worthy.
only had it running 5 minutes and already a chic magnet, LOL
I'm new to your channel, love listening to B run. My father had a BN. Keep up the good work !
"It's nothing fancy, but it'll do a day's work"...I like the way you think sir. Their junk is your treasure. The treasure is having that one part that gets you going and back in the field like you said. Back to basics on the family farm. You represent a true farmer far better than many of the "big boys" out there. Much respect!
Totally agree. One man's junk is another man's parts counter. It's no different than going to a scrap yard and looking for parts except you know what you have and it's right where you can get it.
The B is looking good and the parts machine is already paying you back for the investment.
You can never have too many parts hidden under trees. Happy late 4th of July to you good people.
When I was ur boys age...35 years ago ...lol.....I use to watch/help my dad and my grandpa with our farm machinery....asking questions the whole time
I was the same way.
One person's "junk" is another farmer's treasure :)
YOU GOT THAT RIGHT
Nice looking tractor Farmall B
Sure like how it starts. Doesn’t take much cranking before it starts. 🇨🇦
Love those little B's....got er running like a top!....if it doesn't bother you guys to have some stuff around for parts, it shouldn't bother anyone else!
Having the little man showing interest in fixing the B is the best. Can I clone him?
way to go Alan. Keep up the good work. Like your channel. Have a good summer ,be safe.
B as in bravo 👏🙌😎
Love to see old iron productive again.
Tell Paul when he welds that to take a rose bud torch and heat it red hot and use a 90% nickel rod and it will take
Good variety today. So much goes into farming it’s always amazing to see the diversity of jobs. You keep what you need to operate...those couch farmers can keep their opinions to themselves. 👍🥰❤️
i tell them go down the pub and brag to your mates leave us farmers alone we grow up with it.
Well late I am again, but we'll worth the wait to see it all the way through!! I love that little B, glad everything went back together well! That thing runs like a top!! Always a plus to have spare parts, so much easier to go to the yard store, rather than the online store!! I love seeing all the equipment you have being fixed and run daily!! I gotta get started back getting some of mine dialed in! Thank you very much for bringing us along, the wife meant business during the dusk test drive!! Look fwd to more!
Gotta love a good ole Farmall tractor no matter what size it is. From a cub to a 1206
I sure love those old tractors,, that runs really nice and it will still be around when you are gone. lol
B sounds great. Nothing like old IH iron. I too have a “parts store” on my place. It has gotten so big, wife says I have to get rid of two things before I can bring another thing in and nothing else with a motor under threat of bodily harm. I loved listening to your son ask a million questions when you were putting the valve cover gasket on. It’s a blessing he wants to be your shadow and learn. Hot humid Fourth of July, I think I would have spent a little time cooling off in that beautiful river that runs by your place.
We we're hoping to get to the river, but there's not much water in it now.
We don't call it junk we call it our parts store. Alan pretty soon your kids are going to be tearing stuff apart and putting back together. That is the best way to learn. You will be a great resource when they are in over their heads LOL.
The piece that is one the wheel of the 1066 is a tool to break the wedges loose. The wedge is what keeps the wheels tight
Thanks
Hey Allan thanks for the update, the little B starts right up and sounds great. Wow upcoming temperature going to be in the 60’s , enjoy that. 👍
May be junk to some but treasure to a small farmer with limited budget.Agree best to fix what you can,not every farmer can afford the newest equipment without going bust. You will survive when others go busted as my farmer father would say.
I like that little B. That saw is a nice addition. Got a saw like that here. Tho it's powered by a tjd Wisconsin engine. Make alot of firewood fast
The cow got scared when the tractor started. ☺
The little B sure does run real nice maybe you need to hook it up to the forage harvester ha! ha! sure was nice to see one of your boys running the little tractor & trailer he sure did look very happy and proud take care may God your whole family.
Great little utility tractor!
Farm jobs always seem to go like the B!!! A molehill always becomes a MOUNTAIN!!! lol Kevin.
No such thing as junk. It keeps the farm going. It’s not junk. You’re using common sense in my opinion. Use it up wear it out make it do or do without.
Thanks for sharing the Farmall with use
Oh man buy it I know a guy who can fix it in a day or 2 for ya lol..love y'all...
Enjoyed video as usual, cool family, you’re have been blessed.
.
👋good 4th too everyone
you talk of grand pa nice to see the young ones joining in keep it going im fixing a fergie 1938 and 2 leyland 275s
The B sounds great! Nothing wrong with having parts machines around, sure beats having to drive lots of miles to a dealer.
Love your family.
Now you can use it for haying as this would surely rake well. Especially with such a comfy seat. Don't think it would pull a badger wagon unless everything was flat.
Jen likes to use the B on the hay Tedder.
On the 1066,as others have said, that is the tool for loosening the wedges. They are just clamped on the wheel for storage. There is only one set per tractor. You aren't missing anything on the right side. The wheel has just came loose.
Very good job and I have part in my yard to and God bless yall 🙏
Great video 📹 👍 Keep up good work.
Good video like that B always something to do ain't it 🙏🇺🇲👍🐄
Asking questions is how ya learn...where are the pistons at....that's awsone I live it....teach em young
When you have vintage equipment you need vintage parts on hand. If it means lots of outdoor inventory, that's just how it goes. I'm looking forward to when you can get the steering parts needed for your 530, I grew up with a 630 and for some reason your 530 is close to my heart.
Great job Alan very nice tractor
👍 Nice video!
Great video
man id be tempted to build that other b again esp with the boys you have i think it would be handier than a pocket watch for them to learn on hauling stuff make them think they are helping dad
Runs REAL GOOD!!!
I don't think you're missing anything on your castings on the 1066 I'm pretty sure what's clamped there is a tool for the wedges. I've never messed with them, but both my 86's are the same way. Good to see the b going 👍
Yeah I think your right.
That’s what you call a sidestep connecting rod 😎
Get Jen out there raking hay on the old B
That B sounds really good! Not sure what the parts machine cost, but the rear tire, starter, radiator, gas tank, and buzz saw look like great inventory, nice find! You mentioned Sea Foam. There’s a product called “Berryman’s” that should be right next to the Sea Foam at the auto parts store. The stuff works fantastic and is about half the price.
I got a alternator from Steiner's and it clicks also. Bearing noise the best I can tell. Been like that for 3 years
Super akce zdraví Milonice Vyškov na Moravě 🥰😃😋😆❤💪💪💪💪
dobrze
Great video I tried out the 3450 worked great mine came with the knive kit to slice the bale in half after ur done tying it
Cant beat those little farmalls.. There great work horses.. But Miss Jennifer looked serious?? No she did not.. She was watching to make sure none of her John Deere freinds did not see her... LOL.
Lol!!!
I call those too big for their britches folks. Glorified Renters and Debt Slaves. We have at least one of every letter series Farmall ever made. We have 5 running M farmalls and junked a running M for parts. Our middle son Chris drove a B in the hayfield raking hay when he was 5. I gave him a BF Avery and he worked on it and drove it a lot.All our equiptment and tractors are very old. However we a debt free.
Our goal is to be debt free too!
The things you are calling straps on the 1066, are the tools for loosening the wedge for adjusting wheel width.
I wish that when I was a kid I had been interested in rebuilding my granddads V Avery tractor...similar to a new IHC cub farmall
👍👍 if you can’t find a way make one
Cool! 👍
I would do the grease it down put some clear coat on it I think it look good cool
Now it is ready for body work and paint.
I'm not sure how he did it, but my farther had a super c kick back and brake his nose. Of course there wasn't any trip to the emergency room back then to set it. His nose canted of to the left the rest of his life. Had a h, super c and a bn growing up on the home farm.
Terrific engine noise!
People who say u have to much junk, must not buy many parts nowadays. Way cheaper to have salvage equipment for parts
I didn't even know an exhaust pressure diverter was ever implemented on a tractor no hydraulic oil was necessary. Called a Farmall pneumatic liftall.
Last year i bought a B at a estate auction $100. rusty old thing. it had that exhaust valving. however it had rained in the exhaust and that was all frozen and broken. I also was a distillate burner. had a extra gas tank and a shutter stat on the radiator.
I have the canister and frame but no cable for that exhaust lift if you want it?
Just a few acres uses all old tractors
My boys love his channel.
can not beat an old Farmall and now you have a use for the leftover plastic from the bag spray your parts tractor with waste oil and cover it
That tractor starts really nice. What will it's job be?
It works really well on the Tedder, and I'd like to try that saw rig on it.
Nice small tractor but farmall b is a strong tractor all ways like farmalls you never have to many tractors.
Little Red back in action. Good for a few more generations on your farm.
I completely agree with you about buying parts machines. When you have older equipment it's a must. Sure it would be nice to have a big shop where you could strip the equipment down and put all the used parts on shelves. But that requires time and money which are better invested in other more important aspects of the farm.
If every thing is set right fuel spark and you're careful these old IHC engines will crank up with just a little choke using the hand cramk.. but if not they can break your arm or hand if it kicks back
yesterdays tractors for parts
Thanks for the video Alan, what kind of oil do you use in the gearbox? I wonder if some of those parts can be Milled up, the TV show Sanford and Son reminds me alot about you lol
I just used some 80-90
We had an old C farmall that had a magneto instead of a distributor the mag was in bad shape got Mr. R. J. Pitts an old IH MECHANIC TO REBUILD THE MAG.
HE WAS GOOD
FORMER KOREAN WAR VET. RETIRED Sargent U.S. Army...
Spose to be copper washers on your valve cover to seal it that's why it probably leaked
You most likely need to give the B a good days work to clean out the carbon and junk build up inside the engine that will do it more good than anything. What do you have to pull using the B it will run the hay rake if the 820 handles it well the B should too.
We use it for pulling wagons, raking and tedding hay, and I'm hoping to run the saw rig this winter. This one has a PTO.
if thats a hole in the gas tank i would plug it. keep the bugs out.
I hated the axel on my 930 case. Those four bolts would break on the hub and then slide in. The worse time was one spring I was digging and got into a mud hole and the bolts broke. Tire was right up against the fender. I had to put ties down and jack it up and then slide it wheel out. All in the mud. I still was stuck and my neighbor came over with his a lot newer allis 7045 and pulled me out with me even starting it. When my dad bought that 930 it was the biggest two wheel drive they made. 1965
👌
You use the same grease rag I use. My pants.
👍👍👍
What's your plan for that little tractor?
We mainly use it on the hay Tedder, but I'd like to use that saw rig on it.
Name it Honey's B!!!
rare tractor
Do you have a 7 foot sickle mower for it? I'll bet it's run one.
👍👌🇨🇦❤
Jens driving a tractor and the pigs weren’t flying
Work on a limited budget, you got to have stuff.. That how we always worked
Ok which cow or heifers is mooing
Bessie was mooing because Bop wasn't following her.
you can never have to much junk
👋👋🇺🇸👀
