I've been on high alert since i was 5 years old. The pain I'm in is in the mind. I'm 52 now, that's a long time! People especially parents underestimate the damage neglect and abuse can cause. It's lifelong.
I posted this in response to your other comment. I'll post it again here to make sure you see it. I'm so sorry you had such a difficult childhood. The good news is that there IS a way to recover from this. Your trauma is not happening right now. Creating safety in your present moment is what will help you out. Nobody is too far broken to recover. Nobody. Focus on safety in the present. ua-cam.com/video/Ez9Ez49M8Ig/v-deo.html
@PainFreeYou thank u so much. Recently I was diagnosed with Borderline to go alongside being Bipolar 1, Generalised Anxiety Disorder and ADHD!! Not the initials after my name I once hoped for. My parents are gone but recently I got angry with them both for denying me the opportunity to be the person I was born as before their ineptitude messed with my neural pathways! What you say is very encouraging since I feel I'm more 'damaged goods' than not. It's hard to imagine safety when it's literally about using my imagination as opposed to memory. Being a parent to 3 babies was really challenging; giving them everything I never felt. Through trauma therapy I realise I've been reactive all my life and as a result I am at the mercy of the things around me, never in control. Thank you though for your encouraging words. I've been working on myself since the age of 14! So easy to give up.
I'm so sorry to hear that. The pain you are feeling is your body and soul needing to heal from that so you can move on. THE BEST WAY, is through writing/drawing therapy, bringing it all to awareness and consciousness that you were going through as a child (draw you as a child and the abuser and draw you from behind as you are observing yourself going through the shit you had to go through with the dumbass abuser, and tell you inner child that that A-hole was wrong AND a piece of crap, but you are an adult and safe now and that it wasn't your fault this could have happened to anyone. Then grab a stone called an Obsidian (Powerfully takes out negative energy) and wrap that paper up on that obsidian that you just wrote you drew on (best done in pencil) with all that shit from your abuse, and take the paper and obsidian near the water (fast pace river, preferred because of the moving water) and burn the f paper and through the obsidian in the water, which will take all of that negative shit away from you. ALSO one more tip, take Magnesium threonate, crosses the blood brain barrier. Mag, is responsible for over 300 functions in the body. #1 calming affect. Also, fish oil. And if you have any mental issues from the abuse take The Magnetic Pill (it's the real silver bullet for things like OCD or nerves). Wish you the best!! Lots of Love.
@Sara-wb2bs that's so lovely, thank you 🩷. Think I might need a tonne of obsidian delivered! I have CKD so cannot take magnesium - it often reads high in my blood levels. Funny thing is, people on the outside don't have a clue about my issues - I'm very apt at hiding and putting on a front. I wasn't told about bipolar until I was pregnant with my 3rd and last child. They have been my 'life-blood' and the reason I am still here. There's so much ignorance around mental illness as if it comes out of nowhere - you only have to read the comments under videos on BPD. One person wrote 'if you meet someone with BPD - RUN!' we are humans too and are paying the price for those who should never have had children. I'm one of the most loving, caring people I know and my grown children tell me I'm the best Mum in the world! That paper you write about might just have to be a book which I've been told many times I should write. Come July next year I will have my degree and have the space in my head to get it all out on paper for others to witness and hopefully be encouraged by xx
Me too, I get so concerned with fixings and the control/ fear has made it worse. This is great advice to stop fixing and just live, develop trust and faith

I can absolutely confirm that the most effective way of getting your nervous system back to a regulated state is to shift your focus and concentrate on anything that feels good. I know how it sounds but I've been there, too. And back then it was so awful, I thought I would never feel normal again, that this would be my new reality. But there was still a little voice in my head absolutely refusing to let that happen and to let something that I knew was just reacting to my own mindf*ck dictate my life. So I started with babysteps(!). Like watching extremely soothing clips before going to bed (I can just name things that worked for me but maybe someone finds it helful) like people riding night trains and filming their experiences, while using music und subtitles instead of words. That was my first step. Another one was dedicating a lot of time to meditation, espcieally guided meditation with the theme of reducing anxiety and negative thoughts. I started making little tiny workouts, specialized ones for soothing the nervous system. So partially I focused on my nervous system but with the intention to let it know that everything is okay. The anxiety attacks that period of time were massive so babysteps it werre but little by little it got better and that was pure motivation. To some these methods might sound ridiculous but I actively decided to not let my life be dictated by fear and found my own tools te get out of that horrible cycle. So I guess the first and most crucial step for anyone is to make that choice not to let anything dictate how you feel and how you live your life. Especially not soemthing that is learned behavior and can be transfromed. I wish everyone, if you raed all this (wohoo xD), all the love and energy to heal, to transform and to make that choice for yourself! Blessings
@@PainFreeYou Your video resonated so much with me and the way you radiate is just absolutely soothing and warm. I wish I found your channel back then. But I did now and know where I find likeminded people whenever there is a hint of old pattern. Thank you for putting out love, understanding and commitment for people who often times are misunderstood. And thank you for reacting to my comment
@@imperfectly_megan I wish I could help you with that 🙏🏻 But I'm german, so I used german guided meditation. I understand english quite well, but I didn't want to have to translate in my head while trying to calm down. What I would look for in guided meditation for the nervous system and/or anxiety is someone who tells you that what you feel in that moment is okay, teaching you acceptance rather than forcing your focus elsewhere. Most meditations want you to bodyscan and be still and close your eyes and focus on emptying your head. But with a nervous system on a rampage that's a tough thing to do and might even have the opposite effect. So classic meditation is amazing but a better tool for when you're already more settled (at least I feel that way). Look for meditations that teach acceptance, teach you to respect and trust your body that it wants to do the right thing for you :) Where it's okay if you walk around in circcles while listening.. This kind of meditation is a great start, I believe. Maybe instead of looksing for guided meditation for anxiete/nervous system you could search for "acceptance" "self-love". Play around with other little tools as well. It's mostly the little things - but constantly done - that will make a big change over time and with some patience. I hope this helps a bit at least and I wish you all the best! You can do this!
I don’t watch news, too much us and them, the elites keep us fighting….I work in my landscape, i bought a bench slider….I sit in the morning and again at night, just sitting and listening, watching hummingbirds, bees and butterflies come feed on all the flowers i planted for them….and toss the ball for my dog, it is so good for me.

Same here. I ruminate over things, and that has going to have to stop. However because of alot of trauma in 2020-2021, I became super sensitized which led to more anxiety. I am trying to recover from this, but it takes a long time and hard work. I'm certainly open to hard work to get this anxiety under control. Chronic stress led to this. I wish you the best.............and understand all too well overthinking and ruminating about things. The video was helpful, as the focus has got to stop being on negative things.............when I am feeling well and concentrate on positive things, it is like looking at the world through a different lens.
@@constellations9258 If you start to pathologize your natural reactions to trauma, stress, toxic people (for example you tell yourself, explain yourself that you ruminate) - this will not help you. In fact, now you will be convinced that there is something horrible wrong with you, and this will add to new layers of stress and self blame and toxic shame. What I discovered with overthinking is very revealing information: 1) it is not over thinking. IT is intelligence. 2) It is not rumination, it is being highly sensitive to stimuli 3) it is a protective mechanism - it tells us how to avoid danger. It is helping us to create safety 4) it is an alarm - telling us who is toxic and that we need to act about making ourselves to feel safe - by cutting contact, by avoiding toxicity, by protest, by plaining exit strategy 5) it is neurodiversity - our brain is working differently than neurotypicals - we tend to see more dimensions and more angles, and this appears as rumination to third party, someone who is neurotypical. Then neurotypical will try to cure us by symptomizing our natural brain works and labeling it and stigmatizing - since neurotypicals do not like to think or solve anything in life - they rely on ocean waves to throw their motorless boat around and they don't care where they land. Something to think about. To validate ourselves, instead of symptomizing ourselves into depression and fear and panic.
I have suffered with PTSD and depression all my life. At 56 years old I am agoraphobic and my fears have multiplied. After devastating loss in November 2022 , I have manifested this grief into health anxiety, which in turn, has made world smaller. I feel like I'm stuck in malicious vortex that I will never escape. Weightlifting and fueling my body with a high-protein diet cured all my anxiety. Physically, I’m desensitized to a lot of stimuli that would have previously been overwhelming. Constantly putting my body into a state of muscle failure makes many things feel dull in comparison. Mentally, I know I look fit and there’s nothing that feels better than a post-workout pump, so my confidence has skyrocketed. For the most part, any social anxiety that I previously dealt with has faded away. A lot of people tell you to go to the gym and eat right, but actually doing it can have a drastic affect on your quality of life.
@@StrongBodymindandspiriti can relate. I made weightlifting more stressful by putting so much pressure mentally on myself that i would get little bits of anxiety during the workout. I realized i wasn't doing it right and enjoying it.
I'm stuck in this hyper sensitized state for several years now. This has been the toughest phase in my life and I'm trying my best to get out of it. I'm hopeful that I'll find a good solution.

Thank you for making this video! I wanted to add that I can't stress enough the importance of cutting out caffeine. I was a caffeine (diet soda/coffee/energy drink) addict for 20 years and I wrecked my nervous system. I developed chronic pain because my nerves were damaged. I was told I have fibromyalgia or pinched nerves that were causing my chronic pain, all the doctors i saw were wrong. I endured so many treatments, medications and saw so many specialists and not one ever asked how much caffeine I consumed! Having a highly sensitive nervous system sucks. Having so much pain at 24 is not cool. Especially if nobody in your life truly understands your pain. But I am working with a mental health professional, as well as a kinesiologist, and hopefully one day I become healthy and strong again! I randomly stumbled upon this video, and it's really giving me even more reassurance
What helps me most is praying. Just telling Jesus everything about my pain, my fear, my sadness, my joy, my hope, my love...and He answers me by giving me His peace, as He tells us in Matthew 11:28-29 in the Bible: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls."
Just found your channel and I'm so glad that I have. I'm currently very close to burnout with too many overwhelming things going on. Bereaved, stressed at day job, very ill elderly parent, not sleeping, fibromyalgia etc etc and know that I definitely have a highly sensitive nervous system.
I'm going to take note what you said and try not to think about any symptoms, because one, we're not robots and not going to work right all the time and worrying about it won't change the outcome, apart from extra worry and stress. Easy said than done of course!
Diagnosed with cptsd/DID in 1990 at 30 yrs old with a long very challenging chronic stress from a very young age and continued stress in adulthood leading to severe chronic insomnia that eventually caused my nervous system to be shot leading to 17 weeks of hospitalization in 2021 leading to early retirement due to medical necessity. Chronic pain developed 15 ish years ago. With a yearly neuropsychiatric evaluation since 2017 my cognitive function was declining severely. The test this year in 2023 showed significant improvements in my cognitive function by this exact information this man is speaking of. Love these videos - I have been away from self-care for too long. As my pain now increases my body calls me back to self-care. Choice is always mine! A inner voice of pain calls me to look within and pause - what happened was an increase of stress and the sudden diagnosis of cancer for my little granddaughter. Therefore, more pain. Dans videos earlier this year has supported me to get out of pain and heal a knee that just stopped functioning fully. Thank you Dan for your brilliance and passion.
Oh god I needed this today. Thanks so much. I know that I’m creating my experience by giving negative thoughts. I have health anxiety. I always am afraid I’m going to die but I do have chronic pain. My nervous system does make it worse. Stress makes my chronic pain worse and sabotogizing myself makes my pain worse. I drank and I lapsed after 4 months of not drinking. I’ve gone 7 months. I’m trying to quit. The fears end up leading me to that path, so to quit drinking, I really do need to heal and train my nervous system. Cause I worry I’m going to get sick and die and that fuels my behavior

Bullshit; it’s probably IBS causing the anxiety. Please, get a lactulose breath test to assess SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth) and IMO (Intestinal Methanogen Overgrowth). The first can cause rather IBS-D symptoms, when the latter rather causes IBS-C symptoms. Both are associated with severe bloating/abdominal distention. They can cause tons of food intolerances, including biogenic amine intolerances, which can lead to all sorts of very bizarre symptoms downstream.
Mine got sensitised by a panic attack during a bad trip (too much THC not enough CBD). So now the underlying anxiety over my health/ hypochondria that's always been there, is crossing that threshold and leading to panic responses. Whereas before it would have just been low level stress. So it's forcing to me to solve this problem which I previously was just ignoring. I'm getting to the core of my irrational thought cycles, and in the spaces between panic attacks I'm actually mentally more healthy than I've ever been. So now the challenge is to desensitise my nervous system, but maintain the healthy ways of thinking with this new knowledge that I never would have gained if not for this negative event.
Omg!! This is exactly what happened to me!!! Please tell me how you got passed this!!! I’m going through this now!!!!! I had mine after thc but the attack was when I was driving. So now nervous to drive
Wow it was like i was reading my own story, do you have any tips my dear friend? Also good luck on your journey. Its good to see that you acquired this insight.
Great message~! I've been focusing more on accurate information rather than over-analyzing the problem or pain. Shifting focus doesn't mean denial or avoidance, rather, we can shift the resources of our attention and focus energies on a gathering mindset instead of micro-managing fight/flight responses.Even if I'm freaking out a bit, I'm. now trying to ask myself, "is this accurate?" I like Dan's focus on observing accurate info. For me, stepping back a bit and gathering helps me realize that I probably don't have data yet to freak out. That's actually one of the slogans I use for myself to ca my system: "I don't have enough data yet to freak out.".

Love your videos. Having a flare up after years of 98% pain free. This recent flare up is due to the loss of my mother and fleeing and remembering the past. Probably resisting the feeling. On the nervous system. I literally talk to mine, I thanks it and tell , everything is ok, no need for the pain and I love you body. Seems to work for me, can take a day or two though.
Sorry about the loss of your mom. Allow yourself to feel the grief. Reassure yourself that you can handle the grief and don't need symptoms to protect you from your loss. You are doing great.
I hurt my neck badly twice at five years old and have had chronic pain since then (I'm 51). Emotional abuse in home then marriage for 26 years then dating for five years (narcissistic abuse). Now I'm married to a man who's safe and healthy and loves me abundantly and I love him and I'm still stuck at 5 with the pains here and there blah blah blah. I believe this message just set me free. This is why I'm stuck in sympathetic fight or flight well I prefer freeze with flight on the side. But anyway, I needed this to pull out of the chronic pain and realize I'm not five or 15 or 25, etc. I've got a wonderful life now and I'm hopeful I can move on. You seem so kind and caring and soothing to my fractured so. Thank you
I like what you said “we have to do the opposite to turn it down. “ we got sensitized a certain way but we can reverse it. When I read the Sarno books I got the impression if I just believed my pain would vanish quickly. But it takes a certain kind of work for me. Soothing myself, Understanding that I’m not injured or sick. Keeping a positive attitude and really avoiding stressful situations when I can. I know I don’t live in a bubble but I don’t have to court trouble. So thanks again Dan for encouraging us out there that we can put this stressed out nervous system in chill mode. 🧘♂️😇

My job used to really distress me and get my nervous system out of wack every single day. I was always in fear of failure, coming across as stupid and also the fear of living to work, not working to live and being unhappy because of that. These fears definitely stemmed from childhood. Everything started chnging for me when i found a video on youtube on the topic of gratitude. I started going to work focusing on how i can make someone elses day better, rather than focusing on myself / trying not to let myself down. I no longer worried about sounding dumb or being wrong, because i trusted myself to be able to communicate that my best interest is to be patient and do what i can to help. Life is not perfect, and does not have to be certain way for you to be happy. All you need is gratitude for what you do have, and recognize/focus on the fact that you have the ability to be a positive influence and can put someone else before yourself and make their day better. That imo is the way to happiness, and by extension, calming the nervous system.
when a thought arises gently notice that it is a thought. most of us are very attached to thoughts which causes us to have belief in them. if we are honest with ourselves we can see that thoughts are exactly what they are, just thoughts. thoughts will come and go but what you really are has never began nor will it end. just watch where the thought is going as soon as you notice it and stay there in that neutral space. keep doing this, you will begin to see from the beginning of that thought all the way to the end. what does the wave fall back into? what is this that is aware before, during, and after thoughts? this is your natural state. pure being.
I know this video is from a while back but it is such a great video! And I love how you emphasize that it's not the same as positive thinking but has to do with accurate knowledge. Thank you thank you!

I was trying it myself recently and it worked but then I got scared again about what if it isn't working after all :D I am however pretty sure it was all working alright sill yet it does help to hear another person saying to do that! Thanks, it means a lot!

Stress comes from your perspective….if work, chores, tasks are piling up, take a few minutes to calm…it will all get done, start doing everything in small bits, maybe a half hour at a time. I have twins, the advice i received when they were a couple months old….when it gets overwhelming, sit down for a few minutes with the babies, take time in 20 minute increments. It works. I plan conferences and events for a living, many tasks involved, but I concentrate on 1 task at time. I have my work and home life on a schedule, which can feel overwhelming…but once you create an outline, you can relax. I don’t have every moment scheduled….but 4 out of 7 days I have dinner selected, I select a day I’m going to Costco, I don’t over schedule or over commit! And sitting on my bench is one of my daily tasks! Schedule in your calm and relaxing times!
❤Oh my gosh I just found this channel and I needed to hear this, so I’m so glad that my higher self attracted this that my heavenly father Holy Spirit angels spirit guides led me to this now I’m not even five minutes in and when I heard you say highly sensitive I just thought about it. My nervous system has been off-balance lately I have been in fight of flight mode Consistently pretty much for the last three weeks and as soon as I heard you say we feel every sensation and then every new sensation is a problem that’s a literally what I have is been experiencing in the recent past. I’m so glad to be hearing this I need to get grounded release with no longer serves me trust and everything and I know that my root chakrais off but I’m working on that now, so I’m looking forward to this message thank you in advance❤ NEW SUBSCRIBERS HERE JUST NOW❤️

Hello Dan. I have been through serious abuse. And have lost everything. My mind is damaged from years of narcissistic abuse. My ability to think is shot. Some seriously bad people messed me up. Ones light attracts them like moths. Today has been a bad day. I even hiked 5-6 miles on a trail.

In found this really helpful and can actually remember thinking ‘oh! These are like the symptoms I had before my back surgery!’ No wonder I am on high alert! I’m linking these sensations to a ten hour surgery that put me in ICU! 😱 I love the idea of soothing and gently moving past this fear.

This is so right Dan. In the past with the many things I’ve had but didn’t know then they were TMS manifestations the way out of it was always when I took the focus off the problem and believed I was ok. Usually I’d do something or take something like a supplement that I believed was helping but it was the mind relaxing and letting go that healed. Your videos are so helpful as the message sinks in bit by bit! ❤️😊
I feel like my nervous system and fight or flight response has been on overdrive since developing a plethora of whats called “eye floaters.” It’s put a huge damper on my ability to relax, as i’m always hyper focused on them and my body is constantly vigilant. I’ve already been to a doctor, and they say i’m fine and have to learn to live with it. I’ll watch this video in hopes of learning to enjoy my time again and not always focusing on my visual issues. Any additional advice you’d give me?
Had a really bad anxiety attack yesterday and could not relax for a couple of hours. Sometimes I'm scared of stressing so much that it will effect my health in the long run. Mostly occur in social situations and I don't know why it triggers so frequently or how to stop it. Biggest up hill climb I've ever endured.
Overall, teaching your brain you are actually safe is the way out. My fast start playlist will help whether you have pain or symptoms or not. Actually, anxiety is just another symptom of a brain perceiving danger - just like most chronic pain or symptoms. ua-cam.com/play/PLRJmnkn2kTTIl4frNvmpenr49xcTmVl2H.html
@@Sara-wb2bs what's the 'magnetic pill'?
“When you make living your life more important than fixing your problems.” I needed this, thank you!!
Me too, I get so concerned with fixings and the control/ fear has made it worse. This is great advice to stop fixing and just live, develop trust and faith

That’s me…
Excellent saying. I have to remember this one for sure!!
Blessings
Thank you for sharing your experience with my community. I appreciate you taking the time to help others.

@@marylein5414 You are welome.
Which guided meditation is your favorite? I can never find a good guided meditation.

I found it extremely annoying and patronizing.
Patronizing? Huh. I didn't get that at all.
What I discovered with overthinking is very revealing information:
1) it is not over thinking. IT is intelligence.
2) It is not rumination, it is being highly sensitive to stimuli
3) it is a protective mechanism - it tells us how to avoid danger. It is helping us to create safety
4) it is an alarm - telling us who is toxic and that we need to act about making ourselves to feel safe - by cutting contact, by avoiding toxicity, by protest, by plaining exit strategy
5) it is neurodiversity - our brain is working differently than neurotypicals - we tend to see more dimensions and more angles, and this appears as rumination to third party, someone who is neurotypical.
I subscribed the moment you said it is not positive thinking its knowledge.

Bravo - that is awesome.
Weightlifting everyday is what caused my issues
@@StrongBodymindandspiriti can relate. I made weightlifting more stressful by putting so much pressure mentally on myself that i would get little bits of anxiety during the workout. I realized i wasn't doing it right and enjoying it.

Thank you, Dan. I just found your channel. I have been living in chronic pain for 3 years now as a result of an extremely painful acute disease. The disease went away but the pain stayed. I'm learning to take myself out of the hypersensitive state but it is a constant effort. Thank you for your videos on this topic, they have helped me today.
Thank you so much!
Thank you Dan. So true. Moving on has helped me tremendously. It's also allowed emotions to come up without me trying. They float up & I'm able to acknowledge them. I know I'm safe.👍❤
Wonderful! Amazing how when we remove resistance, everything takes on a feeling of "easy".
Just telling Jesus everything about my pain, my fear, my sadness, my joy, my hope, my love...and He answers me by giving me His peace, as He tells us in Matthew 11:28-29 in the Bible:
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls."
(But taking a good deep breath is always a good thing to do🥳)
Prayer is a wonderful thing.
Why is the background noice so painful to hear? I came bearly watch the video, it makes me feel very uneasy
Your voice conveys more than words can…
Wow - thank you.
I love your energy, I need this profile more than ever right now
My pleasure.
@@PainFreeYou I appreciate u too so much .
I can’t believe it but it’s absolutely true!! ❤
I am still in quite a bit of therapy but with a excellent program.
I’m a true believer in these action steps.
I’m actually feeling a bit depressed even as I write this out but I know this practice is a game changer for me. My nervous system is making noticeable progress and I know I’m renewing and rewiring my brain and nervous system and I couldn’t be more fortunate and grateful.

You have found the solution. DansFastStart.com - watch, take notes, implement, repeat. You can get well.

I watched this video over a year ago. It’s amazing to see how much I’ve changed since then. I don’t beat myself up.

Great insights Myles. You are well on your way.
how are you doing with it now?
Omg!! This is exactly what happened to me!!! Please tell me how you got passed this!!! I’m going through this now!!!!! I had mine after thc but the attack was when I was driving. So now nervous to drive
How do you feel now? I couldve written this myself. It's been 18 months for me.
Good stuff. Thank you for sharing this.

@@PainFreeYou Thanks Dan

That imo is the way to happiness, and by extension, calming the nervous system.
when a thought arises gently notice that it is a thought. most of us are very attached to thoughts which causes us to have belief in them. if we are honest with ourselves we can see that thoughts are exactly what they are, just thoughts. thoughts will come and go but what you really are has never began nor will it end. just watch where the thought is going as soon as you notice it and stay there in that neutral space. keep doing this, you will begin to see from the beginning of that thought all the way to the end. what does the wave fall back into? what is this that is aware before, during, and after thoughts? this is your natural state. pure being.
Thank you for sharing your insights.

What brings you joy?
What can you do that others would like help with?
For some of us, our purpose is to find love and live in contentment.
There is not right answer.
Very nice.
Thank you for your calming wise voice 😌😌

This is so right Dan. In the past with the many things I’ve had but didn’t know then they were TMS manifestations the way out of it was always when I took the focus off the problem and believed I was ok. Your videos are so helpful as the message sinks in bit by bit! ❤️😊
Inch by inch -- it's a cinch! Thanks for your kind words.
