    Great idea on the 3D printed battery box! I made mine out of fiberglass, but 3D print would've been much easier and cleaner. Great build and thanks for putting together the video!

    To my subscribers - Thanks you all! We've hit the first majore milestone, 100! 107 to be exact. Thank you for watching and hitting the subscribe button. I apologize that it's been longer than usual for new content, and plans have changed. The good news is, I have my first customer! He saw the XS build and liked parts of it, and I'm in the process of doing a mock up build for him. I will have a new video out next Friday to discuss this.

    So jealous! I would LOVE an XS650, and I'd strip it down and make a bobber. No, not a hardtail, but I'd get cut down fenders, solo seat, forward controls, change the bars, lowered rear shocks, performance upgrades including carbs and exhaust, and my dream would be a springer front end and a 750 big bore kit! I'd make it a bobber you could ride every day! I'm not a speed demon, but I'm a big boy (over 300lbs) and that's why I'd want the big bore kit.

    I hope you replaced the big end bearings when you did engine up .Replace steering head ball races with tapered bearing replacement , much better , a steering damper and oil cooler are a good move too . Nice pipes . We had to make all that stuff ourselves back in the 70s / 80s . Keep the points clean !!

    • @DoctorMotorcycle
      @DoctorMotorcycle  4 роки тому

      Negative, kept the original bearings. By a stroke of luck, the previous owner had WAY overfilled the oil, so much so that the bearings were sitting in an oil bath while the bike was sitting. It also helped that the engine froze while at BDC. I think that's why it wasn't much fuss to un-seize the engine. Also, this XS is a 1980, it's a transistorized electronic ignition, not breaker points. Thanks for the feedback Mark.

    • @markmanwaring3823
      @markmanwaring3823 4 роки тому

      @@DoctorMotorcycle I do also know many blokes did not realise that when checking oil level ,the dip stick is only rested on top of threads , not screwed in , so many riders were not filling oil to proper level , just check your manual to be sure . Your model is fitted with a viewing window i think from memory. See if you can find a xs1 / 71 cam for her , just swap the sprocket to suit cam chain of course . Will give you better/ more power .

    Many years ago I had a XS650.I put Slick50 in the engine and went for the break in ride- where the engine seemed to get super hot (slick50 lowered mpg- lower mpg meant she was running very lean- lean equalled excess heat). I crept home whipped off the carbs and put the smallest drill bit I could find through the main jet- perfect. Dunno about mpg though, I guess I lost interest her drinking less. Bought new bigger main jets- same performance as drilled ones. Before messing with slick50 n stuff she would 0-60 in less than 4 seconds and another 4 seconds before I got to 90 before acceleration fell off- was this normal?

      @@DoctorMotorcycle In the UK, plod only ever stopped me 3 times. Once because I had a tiny number/licence plate (he failed to notice the near bald rear tyre and illegal non muffling mufflers) and once because I was behaving myself and they simply could not believe I wasn’t doing anything wrong. They had to pull me over again because they had put the wrong date on paperwork. I once melted a hole in a piston when the timing slipped- it went 5 miles in a cloud of Castro’s GTX looking for a bike dealer/repair shop. We were eventually run down by a Mini after the driver fell asleep just before a round-a-bout.

    Everybody turns the cool ones into brats. That's okay scramblers are cool, kinda.
    However full-blown flat trackers with a license plate turn signals in a headlight, gets my heart racing. Nobody does really cool Street trackers anymore, what am I getting old? You guys do such a good job completely stripping everything down and putting it back together right, what's keeping you for making a Street tracker out of this, "scrambler?" It's not a big stretch, just remember what side of the bike the pipes are supposed to be on, which side of the case has to be ground. Then there's swing arm and triple clamps and suspension and brakes, ect... What if we rephase the engine to about 77° to give it that Harley-Davidson Lope? Or use" Ride Wright",
    Wheels they look so cool the spokes. Maybe some inverted R6 forks with radial brakes, or a Suzuki DR swingarm? Almost bolts right up. I know blah blah blah, just saying........

      Hey Paul, I'm not quite sure. I got 3 sets of Ohlins in a trade for a motorcycle, not sure what exact model's they were. They were all the same length but the spring rate was different on each pair. That's why my two personal builds (the CM and the XS) both had Ohlins on them. Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it.

    • @pauldulworth2768
      @pauldulworth2768 4 роки тому

      DoctorMotorcycle, thanks for replying. It’s just a cursory curiosity for my, the shocks I mean. I had 36PRCLB’s on my 2000 ZRX1100 and those look similar except they have the threaded collar for preload adjustment in lieu of hydraulic preload adjustment on the once I had. I think I see the length adjustment on yours way at the bottom above the eyelet, which is helpful when you want to extend the shock without adding preload. Wonderful shocks.

    • @DoctorMotorcycle
      @DoctorMotorcycle  4 роки тому +1

      @@pauldulworth2768 For sure. Ironically I actually had to machine off just over .500" from the Clevis. These shocks ended up being almost 4 inches longer than the originals, and using the Ohlins as delivered, the chain would rub the swingarm which IMO is a no-no. I didn't get that on video for liability reasons (did the work at a friends shop, boss wouldn't have been OK with it LOL). ZRX1100's were such cool bikes, you never see them anymore and those motors are such a gem for street riding. -Jimmy

    PS love your videos and I share them with my biker Brothers. ✌️😎
    That swing arm looks like it belongs on an old YZ80. So why do you put the best shocks you can buy on a swingarm like that? You couldn't even truss it up a little? Ball bearings are for slingshots, not steering heads. You have the machine apart, it's just a swap Yamaha doesn't like to retool. Just saying.......
