  • Watch me transform this 1977 Suzuki GS400 into a Fuel Injected, Tire Shredding Maniac!
    I've owned this bike since 2019, and this is the same bike that blew up this channel in 2020/2021 when the original build video was released. That video now has over 17 Million views! Insanity! Thank you to all that have watched and shared it!
    Link to the original build video - • Turbocharged Mad Max S...
    I've been riding this bike with the Carb'd turbo setup at Glamis ever since I built the bike, and so far it hasn't let me down. The bike was originally a draw-thru turbo setup w/VZ21 and Flatslide Carb. Even on only 10psi of boost, it was still able to make it up Oldsmobile hill @ glamis.....with the exact same worn knobbie that's still on the bike in this build video!
    Stay tuned, this bike is going to get a paddle tire and conquer the biggest dunes at Glamis. RAW riding video at Glamis coming January of 2024.

    This was the hardest build I've ever taken on! Almost threw in the towel a few times. So don't think I whizzed right through this! The troubleshooting process for the trigger wheel was a 5 day ordeal, and even after I got the bike running, it took me another full week of messing around with the bike to get it to run even decently. And then even after that, I has an issue crop up where the bike would randomly go lean and want to die. Turns out....the fuel filter was clogged! So use a BIG AN6, 100 micron fuel filter, and make sure your tank is at least moderately clean. The smaller AN6 30 micron fuel filters are too fine, and will quickly clog if your tank is dirty.

      You can make it as simple or as complicated as you want. I can help you set it up w/carb and make it super simple, I've helped dozens of people do it on patreon. If that doesn't interest you, I'd suggest a GT15-GT20 in draw-thru config, HSR42 carb, 25 pilot, richest needle clip position, and 185 main jet will probably get it running good enough to make boost. Cheers

      Yeah that was a PITA tbh, 'cause obviously I was a total noob at the time and it took me a couple days just to get tuner studio working and to figure out how to do a tooth log, lol. I made a post in a FB group and that's exactly what a guy names Arrtu said; the small diameter wheel means the gaps are too small, hence the spark being intermittent. I was so stoked when it ended up working, that was 5 day ordeal. Cheers!

    Where'd you get the dual throttle body setup from? and what Megasquirt did you use? Considering going efi/turbo on my cb550 was thinking of trying some can-am 800 throttle bodies. Aside from existing efi platforms ecotrons is the only other place I've found decently priced TB's but I did a 4 into 2 murray carb swap for the CB and think those tb's may be a relatively "bolt-on" option for that intake manifold setup.

    • @DoctorMotorcycle
      @DoctorMotorcycle  5 місяців тому

      They're from a ninja 650, as you can see in the video it took some work to get them functional. I would see if you can find a small inline 4 that has similar port spacing, maybe a CBR600 or R6. That way you have the injectors/fuel rail already good to go, and then just make offset manifolds to get them to work. The how-to video on Patreon would be a giant help to you if you decide to do the conversion, especially with regards to the trigger wheel. Regardless, good luck!

    Hello! Sorry for not having followed your building even if I am a subscriber since I saw your mad max scrambler. I just wanted to ask if you are on stock internals and if you lowered compression? And what is stock compression ratio? I like the GS engine, it might be outdated but it´s still a good and reliable engine :) I´m thinking of maybe get a GS500E, they are really cheap here.

    • @DoctorMotorcycle
      @DoctorMotorcycle  5 місяців тому +1

      I lowered the compression via opening up the combustion chambers, it's now 8.6:1 compression. I opened up the ring gap quite a bit larger than the stock gap, honed/new rings, did basic maintenance like valve lash. The head is ported as well. I spin this bike to 10,500RPM and have gone as high as 11,000 on both 400's and 450's. The GStwins are solid engines, you can't go wrong. It's on E85 with a giant intercooler, which is why I'm able to run so much boost.

    • @DoctorMotorcycle
      @DoctorMotorcycle  3 місяці тому

      It depends on the bike, but it needs to come from anywhere in the oiling system that is pressurized. The oil filter housing is a sure bet if there's no oil galley plugs on your engine.

    Hi, i have turbocharged Honda Cb400n, at first it was carburetted blow through, then i modified it to custom made EFI. The turbo i used was kp-35 just a lottle bit bigger than vz21 but it was making boost in neutral wich meant there was some load in neutral, i think it might have been too much pumping loses from too small exhaust side of turbo and badly welded exhaust manifold. Right now i am welding much better stainless manifold and i'll use bigger gt15 turbo, if i'll have problems with it spooling only at high rpm i might use kp-35 to make twin turbo sequential setup. Does your twin vz21 setup have to rev very high to have boost or 400cc engine can supply enough exhaust gases to build boost at lower rpm too with twin vz21 setup? EDIT: Ok, now i realized you used twin GT-15 turbos at first, do you think a single GT-15 would work fine for 400cc?

    • @DoctorMotorcycle
      @DoctorMotorcycle  5 місяців тому

      Firstly, how are you measuring boost? Make sure the gauge is on the plenum and preferably away from the throttle bodies/cylinder ports. The intake pulses on a twin can throw off the reading and make the needle bounce, it's why I always recommend people run a Marshall Liquid Filled Gauge. A VZ21 is suitable to up to 100HP, and the KP-35 probably similar. You're only making 34HP n/a and you'd be at around 50HP or so on 8-9psi which is still plenty of headroom for either of the small turbo's. A GT15 would be too big, I tried to run one on this bike the first time I built it and it wouldn't make more than 4-5psi.

    Edit: twin turbos on a 400cc engine? I wonder at what rpm they start making boost

    • @DoctorMotorcycle
      @DoctorMotorcycle  5 місяців тому

      Started with GT15's, they worked but it only made 9psi of boost even with the wastegates shut. Went to VZ21's, if you look closely at the end you'll notice that when crusing at 40-50mph it's making 5-7psi of boost, it can make full boost (15psi) by about 7k rpm. It pulls to 10,000.

      @@Frollicking_Gurnard Agreed, it's one of those things that I'd love to do but on this bike it would've required buying a street tire/swapping it on, and then since it's a dirtbike, swapping it back which would've been a pain.
